Day 3

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

Three days in a row of blogging. Seems silly to get excited about that, but after so long of faithfully blogging every day, then taking off a day here and day there...I really noticed the difference in how I felt and how much the blogging helped me to put my day into perspective. So I've recommitted to blogging, even if it's only a brief message, every day. This weeks challenge was as much for me as it has been for the rest of you.

Target Tuesday...shaking things up on you Shirl, lol. I set my targets for today and I'm pleased to say...I've met them. Although getting my 30 minutes of exercise in ended up being done in chunks...I did get them in. In fact, I did more. woo hoo! Stayed within my calorie allotment also.

My positives:
Met my goals ....blogging, staying within my calorie allotment, and 30 minutes of exercise.
A beautiful sunny day.
Listened to my own pep talk this morning and had a great day!
Answered emails that have been stacking up over the past few days.
Touched base with many on the team today.
Let go of some negativity and gave myself an attitude adjustment....YAY!

Thanks for stopping by....tomorrow our wonderful Mauri is taking over Wednesday and Thursday Daily challenges, so be sure and check out what she has in store for us.

Have a fabulously wonderful evening.

emoticon Wanda! I know exactly what you mean about putting your day in perspective...which I why I get angry with myself for being lazy about blogging...makes such a difference in my life!!! Just can't decide if I like doing it at the end of the day...to make my evening pleasant...or first thing in the a.m. 'cuz it starts my day on a positive note...hmmmm...

Happy to help out with the daily challenges...hope I can live up to expectations...but grateful for the inspiration it will give to me!

Hugs and blessings,

Day two of meeting the weekly challenge!

Monday, July 20, 2009

I'm going to stop being lazy and get my blogs done daily. I've gotten complacent at doing them, lots of excuses...but not good enough ones...I'm just getting it done!

Heard from our friends in Kelowna again today...the flames are about 5 kms away from them so they are still on evacuation alert. They can see the flames from their front window. Prayers for all those in this situation are appreciated.

Lots of storm damage done in Edmonton and the county. So many old trees literally uprooted. Broken branches everywhere. In Edmonton they had a part of one of the high rise buildings collapse onto the sidewalk and vehicles. Thankfully only one reported injury and not serious. A couple of semi-trailers blown over on the highway...again, no one seriously injured. One of our co-workers showed us pictures of her yard (Acreage). They definitely had a tornado touch down at their place. It cut a swathe through a stand of trees and leveled them. Her greenhouse was demolished as it was lifted up and deposited on her front porch. Again, thankfully no one was injured.
The power of Mother Nature is mind boggling.

Makes one wonder, how much does this strange weather really have to do with "global warming" and how much might be as a result of Mars coming so close to Earth over the next few weeks. (If you haven't seen anything about Mars being close to Earth and August 27th being the closest, let me know and I'll send you some info.)

God, who is loving and protects our family.
My blogging done for today! lol
I don't have to pick up Shy from work anymore...she has her own car.
Well within my calorie allotment for the day.
Completed a task at work that I was putting off.
Family and friends.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit....bring a cup of tea next time and we'll sit down and chat!

Wanda, I am holding all those affected by these crazy storms & fires in my prayers and heart...and as I write that, I need to check out the flames in San Bernardino, where my cousins have a home...that cabin is my plan for writing my book when I retire!!! Truly hoping lives are spared...

Now, as for Mother Nature, she needs massive doses of estrogen 'cuz the only explanation other than global warning is menopause!

What amazes me is how many people will state they think global warning is a concocted idea for the liberals among us...I think some of the mud all this rain is bringing needs to be put on their eyes so they can see again.

Hugs...be safe...thank you for being such an inspiration and BLESSING to me...G-d certainly has given you a role in my life...and it's helping me build that muscle to the upward spiral!

Love you!

Congratulations to Shy since she now has her own vehicle. I'm trying to fulfill this weeks assignment too. Glad to hear mother nature only destroyed objects and human life was spared. Hope your container garden is doing well and you have some excess to can for this winter.

July 19th

Sunday, July 19, 2009

Yesterday was a great day. We headed out to Calgary to attend a wedding reception of Garry's niece and her new husband. It's a three hour drive to Calgary from our home, and we decided that we would head home the same night so knew we were in for a long day.

Shyra came with us, which was great because we knew there would be lots of family there and many whom we hadn't seen for some time. Garry's folks arrived from Saskatchewan and a brother and his wife from BC as well as others.
The weather was fantastic and the reception was held outdoors in the bride's father's backyard. Beautifully set up and a wonderful time.
Technology made it possible to view all the professional photographs online. What a lovely opportunity to feel like you were there at the wedding.

We spent some time visiting with all the relatives before heading home around 7pm. Drove to Red Deer, where we stopped for a bite to eat before continuing the journey. About 20 minutes away from home, we knew we'd made the right decision to come home, but also knew we were in for one heck of a storm. The wind began blowing so hard, Garry had difficulty keeping the vehicle on the road as well as you were always concerned the the vehicles in the next lane were going to stay in their lane! You could actually feel the pressure change inside the vehicle. The sky was getting blacker and blacker...we started watching for funnel clouds. There was no rain, but we knew something was happening. Just as we approached our town, we watched all the lights go out....power failure ...no street lights, no nothing! Very surreal.
As we pulled into the driveway, my first thought was are we going to be able to get into the house before whatever is brewing is going to hit! We made it with seconds to spare.
Here's the photos. We used the emergency lights to be able to take the pictures.

The hail was hitting the deck so hard you could feel the vibration on the floor in the kitchen.

About two minutes into the storm.

My poor plants!
I still have to go out this morning to survey the damage!

Icy fight anyone???

Thankfully the power came on shortly after this and once the rain started the wind died down and it became a rather nice night.

Thank you Lord for our safe trip home.

Thanks for stopping by and visiting. Have a wonderfully blessed day.

Wanda thank the Lord you made it safely home and inside before that hail hit, that would have been painful. Hopefully your plants will revive. The reception sounded lovely.

Keeping it positive

oh dear ... your poor plants wouldn't have known what was hitting them ... they'll probably look quite bedraggled for awhile but will most likely all bounce right back ... glad you were all safe

Wow! The wedding sounded great. The drive home sounded scary. I know you don't come from a place of fear, but I was taking deep breaths as i read your post! And eerily enough, last night the power went off here in my condo. I have never experienced this before and when one is by oneself, it gives you pause. Fortuately, my place is only 950 sq feet and I knew exactly where the matches and candles were!

So glad you made it home safely. When it storms I always want to be at my own home. I want all my family here too but now that they have their own homes I just have to say a prayer for their safety. Glad you had a good time at the wedding and so nice it didn't hit while you were there.

So glad you were able to get to the house before the hail hit. My hubby was on the road there at the same time, he just made it into the hotel parkade in time too.

Fabulous Friday!

Friday, July 17, 2009

What a wonderful day I've had today. Woke up very early, grabbed a few minutes on the computer before our company arose.
Had a wee visit before they needed to get on the road for the drive home. Started laundry, made beds all fresh and tackled some other chores. Headed out the door to do some mailing and banking, then headed into the city with Garry to purchase a wedding gift for his niece.
Tomorrow we will head out the door mid morning for Calgary to attend the reception. Samara and Robbie were married last Friday in Elko, BC, now they are having a reception in Calgary and then another one in Arlington, West Virgina! Garry's folks and brothers are going to be there, so we will head down for over night.
Not too comfort leaving the two cats alone over night as one of them doesn't always behave and I don't have a room that we could secure him. plus the fact that he would probably tear up the room out of sheer madness!

My Positives:

A lovely visit with friends.
A beautiful sunny day,
Freshly laundry sheets on the beds.
Wedding gift purchased.
A day spent with Garry.
A phone call with Kaeli.

Thanks for stopping by, have a wonderful evening and remember tomorrow is Silly Saturday....take the time to share a laugh and let your inner child out to play.

You know your baby is grown up when....

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

Well our baby reached another milestone in her life today. Shyra is now the proud owner of her very first car! Garry found her a great used car, a 1999 Buick Regal (mid-sized car), very low kms on it and when the safety inspection was done the only things that needed to be done were to replace the air filter and fan belt! She was able to purchase the car for $1500.00. Fantastic.
After paying for her car, we headed to the insurance office, where they gave her a great quote (considering the she is still classified as a new driver). She is 21 but only had her license since October. Once she hits 25...her insurance will go down. Meanwhile its not bad at all. She has an appointment after work tomorrow to get her insurance and head to the registry office to get her license plate and registration.

Where did my baby go too! lol

We have company arriving tomorrow also. They are spending the night before heading back home to British Columbia. Same company that we here a couple of weeks ago. I'm taking off work on Thursday, so that I'm able to spend some time with them before they head out. It's a 12 hour drive back home from here.

My positives:

Heard from Marie and Mauri...two of the very special ladies in my life.
Shyra reaching another milestone in her life.
A great laughter filled day at work.
Greek salad for supper again tonight!
Laundry done and bed all made fresh ready for company.
God, who blesses our lives in so many ways.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit.

Enjoy your visit with friends...

Hugs and blessings...and thanks...

... Shyra's first car story made me remember when I got my first one - and the memories of many cars that came after! My dad always played a hand in helping me get each one.

Oh - & got to LOVE those summer greek salads (we all had one last night as well)!
