Things are moving right along...

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Went to work early this morning as I knew that I would need to leave when the repair person called me to let me know that he was ready to do the gyprocking repair at the house. I worked until 9 am at the office and then came home and spent the rest of the day until 2:30 working from home and entering orders. I'm so blessed that my work okayed our office program to be installed on my home computer. The initially reasoning was so that I could still continue to work when there were repairs and chemical fumes going on at work. Today was a bonus. I managed to get three large orders completed and sent on their way.
The gyprock repair man was able to work all day and replace the sheeting that had been cut away due to the flood. First coat of mud is on and he will call me again tomorrow at work if he is able to come tomorrow to check on it and perhaps put on a second coat.
The carpet people are coming tomorrow at 3pm to measure the basement so they can install the new carpet. Yippee! I get to choose colors and kind! Woo Hoo!
The repair man from today, also told me that he would be painting the one bedroom completely seeing as all four walls had repair work done to them. Bonus!

The basement is dried out and if things continue to move along at this speed we should be able to move things back into place by mid May.

My positives:

Marla is back! Huge bonus!
Repair work coming along wonderfully.
New carpet and I get to choose color and kind.
No snow (yet). It's been predicted, but I'm very hopeful that it won't appear.
God who continues to bless us so immensely.

Thank you to all who stop by and leave such encouraging comments. I really appreciate all of you.

Hugs,
Wanda

Wanda - I didn't realize how dire the basement issues were - you have been so positive. What a blessing that you can incorporate work into your home repairs now. It sounds like it will be great fun choosing flooring & carpet colours!

Wanda, it does sound like things are moving right along. Thank goodness! And you were able to get some work done too! I had to come home today for the piano tuner, but will have to take vacation time -- no working from home for me, unfortunately. I'm so glad you are able to see things take shape in your basement and make some positive choices about what you want done. WooHoo! Kathleen

An expensive day...

Monday, April 20, 2009

The insurance adjustor came today to evaluate whether or not we would be covered by insurance for our flooded basement this past weekend.
On one hand, how wonderful that we do have insurance and that the flooding is covered. On the other hand our deductable is a thousand dollars! Money we hadn't counted on having to put out right at the moment, especially with the fact that we committed to some new flooring.
I know that it will all work out in the end and for that I am grateful. The cost of repairs to the basement far exceed the thousand dollars we have to pay out.
So instead of moaning and groaning about the situation, I will be thankful and happy that we do have coverage, that we did not lose anything that is not replaceable, that we do not have to find and hire contractors to come in to do the repairs(insurance takes care of that), that the insurance gives us a life time warranty on the repairs being done. Yes we do have some minor inconveniences, seeing as both Shy and Q are basically without bedrooms at the moment and possibly for the next couple of weeks. Plus side, we have a home big enough that there is floor space to toss their mattresses down on for them to sleep.
This is a growing opportunity for all of us, we can adjust and count our blessings from this bump in the road.

It's back to work for me tomorrow...bonus part is that I now have things set up on my home computer, so that I can work from home when the repair people are here to do the repairs. Garry will not need to take the day off work, and in essence, neither will I!

My Positives:
- a beautiful day, even if it was a bit cloudy.
- insurance will cover all the damage.
- Finances will work out so that we can easily pay for the deductable.
- I can still make positive affirmtions and mean them.
- I see my glass as being half full not half empty. In fact, I would say my glass is only slightly less that completely full!
- Shy is making supper while I catch up on the computer...she is such a great person.
- our basement is almost dried out now, only one damp spot that I can see.
- God who allows trials and bumps in the road so that I have the opportunity to grow and learn.
- friends who encourage and support my in my walk.

Thanks for stopping by, have a wonderfully blessed evening.

PS Tomorrow is Talking Tuesday....check in with others on SP and offer an encouraging word, chat with those around you and keep a smile on your face as a sign of encouragment.

Hugs,
Wanda

It is so refreshing to hear all the positives under such dire circumstances. Camping out and letting the thousand dollars go are big things but you've chosen to not let it affect your outlook and enjoyment of life - this is big and it certainly has its own important rewards.

I love how you thought of so many positives. I tend to get overwhelmed with home repair issues, and financial issues, but there is always a silver lining. Hurray for insurance! And good luck getting your basement back together. Have a great week, Kathleen

Update on my life the past couple of days....

Saturday, April 18, 2009

It has been an interesting and eventful couple of days. I am amazed at how calm and peaceful I have been about everything. I give all that glory to God for having shown me over that past while that I am the only one responsible for my actions and reactions. I chose to be positive.
A couple of days ago I heard water rushing somewhere and upon investigation I discovered that water was pouring out of the side of our house through the sump pump overflow. Rather odd, considering that about 5 years ago the county came and connected our sump pump flow directly into the county sewer system. I mentioned it to Garry and the next day he was able to contact the country. Apparently they had had several calls from people with the same issue. The frost had gone so deep this year that it froze the drains. They said they would put us on their list and would be out to thaw things out. No problem. Except yesterday morning we woke up to our basement almost entirely flooded. The sump pump just could not keep up with all the water and because our neighbors lines were also frozen and they are a slight bit higher than we are all their overflow water was finding its way into our sump pump. Talk about freezing water...its all the snow melt!
The blessing is that I had yesterday off work and we were able to deal with the situation quickly. Garry called the county and asked if we could be a priority, that was at 7am, they showed up at 11am. In the meanwhile Garry went and purchased a second sump pump which we got set up and it started pumping water also. With the two going we managed to get the water mostly back down to ground level, but we knew the carpet/underlay/ baseboards and gyprock on the lower parts of the walls were ruined. We also lost three pieces of furniture and several boxes of things that weren't very important...those we will sort through today as well as a container that held all Kaeli's baby things.
Blessing...our new floors have not yet been installed in the entryways...with all the people that were sent from the insurance company to haul out the carpets and tend to the walls etc tracking back and forth, I can't imagine what my new floors would have endured. We are going to call today to have the installation postponed as these same people will be back once things dry out to do all the repairs that are required.

So many positives from yesterday.
* I had the day off work, so we were able to deal with things more quickly than if we had found it later in the day.
* Most of the things we have downstairs are in plastic bins.
* What was lost was not vital.
* Insurance responsed quickly by sending out people to assess and help out.
* My new floors have not yet been installed.
* Got lots of exercise in, even though it was not the sort I had planned.
* I now have a chance to once again sort through things and make a determination of whether is "clutter" or "a necessity to keep".

Have a wonderfully blessed day. Thanks for stopping by.

Hugs,
Wanda

I am really glad things weren't any worse than they were for you. Nothing like something like this to have us realize what things we really do cherish ... and some of those things could have been down there (but they weren't) ...

April 15

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

A very busy day today. Safety meeting all afternoon at work, with some carry over work from that for tomorrow. Then headed home in time to pick up my son and take him to his job in the city. I'm back to being Mom's Taxi for the next 3 weeks...that's okay though. It gives Q and I time to chat and catch up with each other.
This evening we had the Kitchen people over to give us some suggestions on how we can get our kitchen working better for us. They had some great suggestions and are going back to their office to produce some pictures on the computer for us to look at for next week.
At this point...we are just trusting that all the renos we want to do are going to be within our budget and the money will be there! Sometimes when things begin to fall into place you just have to believe and trust.

My positives:
Shy got her stitches out and is a much happier person now that she will be able to wear her shoes to work instead of her slippers! lol.
Kitchen people were here and had some great suggestions.
My flooring is scheduled to go in the entryways on the 27th...Yippee....cork flooring!
Sunshine all day, I was able to get in a great outdoor walk during my lunch break today.
It's Pay day! always a plus.
We have our new powderroom vanity purchased, the top with sink is ordered and the new toilet will be ready for pickup on Friday.
We get to claim all these renos on income tax next year.
God who truly blesses us in such abundance.

Marla...keeping you and yours in my prayers.

Hugs,
Wanda

Pay day for me too! Yippee!
Wow! I love to hear about renovations and I watch HGTV a lot to get ideas. How do you get to claim the renovations on your taxes? That's awesome!
Have a fantastic weekend! Skip with joy! emoticon

Monday, Monday

Monday, April 13, 2009

Monday, Monday, what more can I say. Another new day to be creative, a new beginning to a work week. The holiday weekend is over and time to settle back in and be accountable in all areas.
We had a beautiful sunny weekend, so many things on the go and almost all of them accomplished.
Our flooring guy came to do his exact measurements and to give us a quote on what it will cost for the installation. It's not a bad price, so we are going with it. If all goes well, we will have our cork flooring in the entryways (back and front) by the end of the month and the kitchen at a later date as we still have to make some decisions on what exactly we are doing in the kitchen.
The kitchen people are coming over Wednesday evening to give us some suggestions.
We are replacing the toilet and vanity in the half bath, and made some decisions on that this weekend also. Lots of renos happening around here this year and I'm excited that we can do them. It's a great year to do some of these projects as our government has a tax incentive in place for this year. Any renos that we do we can claim on income tax....yippee!

We had a great family day yesterday...Garry had to work on Saturday. The weather was so nice that Garry got out the BBQ and we bbq'd supper last night. What a nice treat. I love bbq'd veggies.

Just looked at the clock...it's time to run. I'm on early shift still this Monday, so need to head out the door for work.

Have a wonderful day, be open to receiving God's blessings in your life, live in the moment and enjoy the fact that you are alive.

Thanks for stopping by.
Hugs,
Wanda

Wanda - What a nice weekend you had... Just about perfect. It's always good when you can finally get some things accomplished... Especially when there are so many decisions to make on them... Andy and I rarely agree... lol so it really makes it difficult at times... lol If he's just do the way I want it would be so much easier... hee hee

Enjoy your Monday ...
