Writing Wednesday

Wednesday, December 10, 2008

Thank you Nancy for posting such a great assignment. I had to really think about all the Christmas's past to come up with the best one!

As promised here are my pictures:

Watcher in the Pines - Wolf , the first one I ever purchased.

My second purchase of the Watcher in the pines - Cougar

My favorite one...Watcher in the Pines - bear....my totem animal.

I'm missing the deer one, but it wasn't the same as these ones and I didn't really like it.

I managed to spend 5.5 hours at work today before our department was closed down for the day due to more fumes. The repair persons were in and when they started cutting out the damaged drywall etc, let's just say the odor was not nice. Lot's of black mold, we assume from previous floods!
A good day none the less.

My positives:
A wonderfully supportive team.
Nancy...you are the best! Thank you.
Able to go back to work today, even if it wasn't all day.
Caught up on my in basket at work.
Getting more comfortable with loading pictures into my computer and on to SP!
A lovely day outside today. Sunshine!!!!!YAY, YIPPEE, WOO HOO.
Emails for wonderful people.
Life!

Loved this positive quote of the day....too often we don't recognize the little things are just as important as the big things.
POSITIVE QUOTE OF THE DAY
-----------------------------

Most of us miss out on life's big prizes. The Pulitzer. The Nobel.
Oscars. Tonys. Emmys. But we're all eligible for life's small
pleasures. A pat on the back. A kiss behind the ear. A four-pound
bass. A full moon. An empty parking space. A crackling fire. A great
meal. A glorious sunset. Hot soup. Cold beer.

I love the pictures. I especially like the cougar. I'm not sure what my totem animal is but I think it's a large strong feline. I've always been drawn to them, especially mountain lions, cougars and panthers.

Wanda, I love your blog but your pictures are absolutely beautiful!!! Thank you so much for sharing. This touched me in a very special way. The bear looks like he is stepping right out of the picture.
I am sorry for all the mold, fumes and all...that makes for a very unhealthy work environment. Even though your work day was cut short, you still were able to get things accomplished. May God continue to bless you and keep you safe and healthy.
Hugs,
Helen

You are getting very fancy with your technology! I like the bear. He has something special behind his eyes. And the hot soup and beer sound like a nice award to me. Have a thoughtful Thursday. I look forward to hearing about it.

Nancy

Talking Tuesday and boy did I talk and listen!

Tuesday, December 09, 2008

What a great talking Tuesday. Kaeli arrived home safe and sound last night from Athens, Greece. Some concern that she would make her flight due to the riots that took place in Athens. Kaeli said it was no very good there, one whole street ( a major tourist shopping one) was completely destroyed by looting, fires and damage. What a shame.

It's still snowing today, Garry beat me out to shovel the driveway and walks this morning, but I was able to get my share in later in the day. Kaeli and spent a large portion of the day catching up on each others news from the past 3 months. She had a fabulous time on the dig she was working. Sure is good to have her home again though.

Had a phone call from my supervisor this afternoon, apparently they have had to disinfect with chemical again today. There had been an area that was somehow missed and the fumes are bad again. She told me that I might want to stay home again tomorrow. Said I would phone Geff at 6 am to see how bad the smells still are and go from there. So might have another day off tomorrow. Good thing I have lots of overtime to draw from. I'd rather have the time off than be sick.

My positives:
Kaeli's home!
Lunch out with Kaeli and a great time chatting.
Possible day off tomorrow, I can finish all my Christmas projects then! woo hoo!
Staying on track.
My sp family that keeps me encouraged and motivated.
God who blesses my life in ways that I never even thought of.
Life...so worth the journey.
Nancy, who has willingly stepped up to the plate to post Writing Wednesday challenge. Thank you Nancy, I'm looking forward to it.

Have a spectacular evening, continue to count your blessings.

Hugs,
Wanda

I'm glad Kaeli made it home safe and sound! How scary that she was in the area during that rioting.

Wanda, I'm so happy Kaeli is home and you are enjoying your time with her...not that you wouldn't! And G-d does work in mysterious ways...all those chemical fumes I don't think are coincidental! :)

Enjoy catching up!!!

Motivation Monday

Monday, December 08, 2008

What an awesome day it's been today.
Not only did I have an unexpected day off, my creative crafty juices got flowing and I've managed to plan and create some gifts for my family today! YAY ME!

I had such a fun time using pictures that I had taken and stored on my computer. I decided that everyone needed their own to go mug. Mine is always disappearing and I never have it to take to work in the morning. I went and purchased 5 "to go" mugs today from Starbucks. I got the kind that you can personalize, came home and spent the day creating collages with each persons pictures on them and then inserted the collages into the space provided in the mugs. Now there is no excuse for my mug to go missing! Solved two problems with one creative one! Each person now has their own personalized to go mug and I have a stocking stuffer! Woo Hoo!

Q installed my new bathroom light fixture today and it looks great. I just have the tassels to add to one end of Shy's afghan and it is complete. Have a nice supper in the oven, something I don't get to do that often during the week.
Mailed Christmas cards, bought some fruit, finished the last of the indoor Christmas decorating. Talked to Kaeli's beau on the phone and Matt is coming to pick up Kaeli's winter jacket and boots and going to the airport to pick her up. Matt missed her as much if not more than we did. lol.
Got all my supplies for making bath stuff for the girls and Garry's Mom.
A super motivated and productive day today....love those kind of days when everything just falls into place and you know that what you are doing is meant to be.

My Positives:
An extra day off work.
A very motivated and productive day.
Thrilled with how the "to go" mugs turned out.
Matt is driving to the airport to pick up Kaeli...I don't like driving in the dark.
Kaeli will be home this evening.
Lunch with Shy and she even bought her Mom lunch. Not that that is necessarily surprising, just very nice and totally unexpected. She had phoned to see if I would be free to meet her! What a nice young lady.

When you wake up and decide that you are going to have a great day...that is usually what will happen.

Hugs,
Wanda

Silly Saturday and I was motivated!

Saturday, December 06, 2008

I've been so motivated today, I scare myself! Of course, I do have to say, I had great help from my husband. Almost all the carpets have now been steam cleaned. Even my lovely sofa has been done! We decided to keep the cleaner we rented for over night just in case things look like they might need an0ther go tomorrow.

It's been an interesting day. God is so wonderful. Yesterday as Shy and I were driving home, we noticed huge plumes of black smoke and flames coming up not too far from where we live. Turns out 2 homes burnt to the ground and a 3rd had extensive damage. My heart just goes out to these folks. Especially considering the time of year. The fire in the middle home apparently started in the garage. Well today, I had asked our son if he could install my new light fixture in the bathroom. No problem, except when he took the old one down, he discovered a major one!

Who ever initally installed the light fixture did not do it to code, they just pulled a wire up, no metal box or grounding to it they just wired the fixture in. As Q said, Mom this is dangerous, if one of those wires had connected to the wood surrounding it, you could have had a fire! Needless to say, I am blessed to have a son who was apprenticing as an electrician as well as God who through a series of events made us aware of this situation. Tomorrow, Garry will go and purchase the necessary metal box and fixings and then Q will install the light on Monday. (He's gone snowboarding in Banff for the weekend)

Then I got a phone call from work....I can't go to work on Monday...we have had another major sewage back up in the library. All the washrooms and drains overflowed. Major clean up required (this is the 6th time in the past 3 years). Carpets have to be removed, baseboards, drywall as well as things need to be highly disinfected. Which means chemical fumes and with me being highly susceptable to them....I get to stay home! Yay for me, not so good for the library. The blessing though, is that this time it occured while we were open and not at night where more damage occured. My orders for 2008 are all submitted and I only have orders that won't be sent until about Dec 20 to ensure we don't receive them until 2009. The libary has to be closed now until Monday and then they aren't sure about air quality for everyone. I already had Tuesday booked off, cause Kaeli arrives home Monday around suppertime, so I have a lovely nice long weekend! My supervisor will let me know how Wednesday is stacking up as far as the fumes go. She has given me the option of attempting to come in, knowing that I may not be able to stay.

My Positives:
More things accomplished on my December to do list.
Carpets and sofa look nice, house even smells clean! (not that it smelt bad in the first place, but using vinegar to clean everything makes such a difference)
God watching over our home.
Quin discovering a potential fire hazard.
An unexpected nice long weekend....don't go back to work until Wednesday, Yay for me, not so good for the library....it had another major sewage backup.
Garry said he was making supper....I get to finish up here!
Feeling more on top of things.
Did I tell you all that Kaeli comes home on Monday!!!!! lol.

Have an awesomely wonderful evening,
Hugs,
Wanda

What a blessing that your son discovered the wiring problem. My brother is an electrician as well, so he has come in quite handy around my house the past year or so with no men around the house to do those types of things. I'm very thankful for my family. They practically knock down my door asking if there's anything that needs done.

I am so sorry to hear about your neighbors who lost their homes. It's always a tragedy, but you're right ... at this time of year, it's even worse.

a long day

Friday, December 05, 2008

What a long day today...despite not having to be at work at my usual hour, my body is so used to waking up at 5am that it did precisely that! Professional Dev. Day at work today and it lasted until almost 5pm. So in essence a 12 hour day for me and it's not over. There was a great bonus to the day though, we were moving around from station to station frequently, which meant that I got many extra steps in my day today....Woo Hoo, always a plus side to be found. lol.

Woke up to rain this morning and temperatures above zero, but now they are dropping and we are forecast to get snow for the next 4 days! Not that I mind the snow so much, it's the snow on top of the rain that has now frozen that is hazardous! I'm glad its the weekend and I don't have to drive anywhere.

My positives:

A weekend to look forward to.
Kaeli is home Monday evening.
A opportunity to mingle with more of my co-workers and get to know some of the newer ones a bit better.
More information about our new library to open in November 2010. I was a bit concerned about the chemical fumes that might be lingering from the new construction. Being very susceptable to chemical smells, this was creating some concern. Assurance came today that the materials being used are "green" and that the building will be aired and cleaned thoroughly for 2 weeks before we can move in. Cleaning products being used will be "green" also. YAY!
SP friends who show they care. Thank you, you are all so appreciated by me.

Silly Saturday tomorrow and I've got a good one I've been saving!!!!

Have a wonderful evening,
Hugs,
Wanda
