Memories

Thursday, September 11, 2008

Today has been a day of memories in many ways. Although my Mom has gone home to her maker, I still like to remember her on this her special day. She would have been 87 years young today. I spent some time today remembering her and filtering through memories. I'm pleased to say that many of the hurts no longer seem to really matter, I was able to focus on more of the good times. The adage...time heals all things...is definitely true. Yes, 9/11 had its place in my memories too, it will always be irrevocably tied in my memories because of being my Mom's birthday. Today my thoughts were ones of thanksgiving.

A lovely long walk was in order for this morning, then some time spent in meditation by my "seashore". We really do live in a miraculous world. Dropped Shy off at her job and then headed into the city to spend some time looking for a couple of tops that fit. (most of mine are now too big!). I found a couple of great bargins. Yippee! I love end of the season times, the sales are so good!

My positives:
A beautiful morning for walking and meditating.
Time at my special "seashore" enjoying all the wonders in my backyard.
Sales.
Being obedient to God's voice urging me to go and see someone.
I have a lunch date tomorrow with my SIL. I'm thinking positive about it!
Talking to a government person who was actually very helpful in regards to Kaeli's student loan that hasn't come through to her bank yet. It should be deposited by the end of the month.
Hearing from Shirl today and hearing that her knee is healing well.
Marla's wonderfully positive attitude.
Kathy is in training on her bike to race with Marla! lol.
Polly for her words of wisdom.
Nancy who always finds a positive spin on stressful situations.
Marie for sharing her gentle and peaceful ways.
Cee for being an amazing woman.

“There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative.”

It is so good to have happy memories to call on. As you know when we remember the good ones and focus on them they overshadow the bad ones.

Lots of positives for you today.

My mom has been residing in a nursing facility for over a year now. She's lost her vision to glaucoma. She is also diabetic and has early Alzheimers. It is something to me how she has turned into my "little girl" and I tease her about it. I always kiss her nose when I get there, and go "ewwwww" when Daddy kisses her. I am the first born and I love it when it is the three of us, as Daddy reminds me ...

Woo Hoo to Nancy for being Today's Featured Motivator! What a surprise to see your happy face as I went to go to sparkpages.
Congratulations.

Well today has been a wonderful day once again. The sun finally came out and warmed things up a tad. It's been rather chilly around here of late. Cold enough now that most nights the furnance has had to be turned on! Yikes!
I wandered off to the gardening store after dropping Shy at work and picked up a big bag of potting compound. Brought it home, and got things set up out on the deck. Hauled out all those little seeds I planted in early summer. Most of those little plants are now doing very well and definitely in need of bigger containers and new dirt. I am going to have to keep them indoors for over the winter, but an anticipating having some edible fruits off of at least the Apricot Tomato plants. Have no idea what they will look or taste like, but that's part of the fun of having planted something I had never heard of before! I now have 18 newly potted Apricot Tomato plants and very little room to have them in my home. lol. It's a jungle now in here. I'm going to take one of the pots to work with me next week and keep in at my desk and some of them, I'm going to fob off on unsuspecting co-workers!
I transplanted 3 of my trees that I started from seed also. I'm looking forward to watching them grow over the winter and then being able to transplant them out into the yard next spring. The information with them, says they will be able to with stand -40 C, so they should survive next winter out of doors.

After getting things cleaned up, I thought it was about time to spend some time at my "seashore" enjoying the quite and solitude of the afternoon. Hauled out my book, my chair cushion and my cup of coffee and settled down to enjoy some reading. I quickly got distracted by a little squirrel that I spent the next half hour watching as he busily scurried back and forth along our back fence, the neighbors back fence and dropping down into the yard of the neighbor 2 doors down only to resurface moments later with a peanut in his mouth which he was carrying back to his burrow somewhere in the trees by the neighbor's back fence on the opposite side of me. What an amazingly industrious little creature he was. Never hesitating, just getting the job done. He had his goal and he was doing all that he could to accomplish it. Think that I will head out to the store tomorrow to buy some goodies specially for squirrels to help him along on his food gathering mission.

Soon it was time to head out the door to pick up Shy from work and then home again to pick up the knitting that I am making head way on. I figure that at the rate I'm knitting it, Shy should have her afghan by the end of October. I have almost 2 feet of it done now. Spent some time this afternoon reading some great articles on the internet and some thought provoking emails that I received. I love getting those emails that not only make you smile but make you stop and appreciate the person that sent them to you.

My positives:
Warm sunshine, supposed to have some tomorrow also.
Getting all my little plants transplanted.
Time at my own backyard "seashore".
Watching a very industrious little squirrel and taking the time to appreciate how he was accomplishing his goal.
Friends and all their positive words.
Time for meditation.
God's spirit surrounding me.

You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you.
James Allen

Have a wonderful evening,
Hugs,
Wanda

Thanks for spending some time with us! Apricot tomatoes sound intriguing! I look forward to the report. And I will try to enjoy the squirrels instead of letting them bother me. I know, I can CHOOSE my reaction. Have a great Thoughtful Thursday.

Wanda - I used to have 100 plants in my house. No kidding. Now I have 0. But I have two cats that would eat them! LOL

I enjoyed your friendly little squirrel episodes along with you. I love squirrels. They're so cute! Darting in & out among the trees so fast. Scurrying here & there to get their food or whatever.

I'm enjoying our new team of positive bloggers too! So glad you decided to create this! Yeah for you!

Love you, Marla

    Wanda...
Now that was my kind of day... Just Perfect.

We have squirrels too, that come down and eat the bird seed that I put out... And our tenant across the street raised one from a baby and then set him free. He now lives in the trees in the yard and always come home to eat and nap... He's really cute, but I stay clear... he bites... lol We call him the Watch squirrel. lol

I enjoyed your day right along with you my friend...

Hope today is just as good...

I was watching your squirrel with you. I was very quite I didn't want to scare him away. They are so industrious and determined to accomplish their goals. I could learn something from that. LOL

I like sitting on your deck. Listening to your "ocean waves". You know I could have used a cup of coffee it was a little cool. LOL

Wanda, isn't it great to be able to feel things all around you & be able to appreciate them as well..So many of us don't have enough time to see what is right in front of us.. Sometimes I close my eyes & invision things that I take for granted.. I look whole heartedly & find so much more to it then it really is.. Lots of things are meant to be so much more, but we neglect to realize it.. I'm so glad that you found some time to enjoy all of natures creations, staring you right in the face..With your seedlings, apricot tomatoes & squirels.. Your Pleasures were my reading pleasure as well..Love Always Polly

A greatful heart!

Tuesday, September 09, 2008

Yesterday I finally submitted to something that God has been laying on my heart for some time. I created a team on sparkpeople. The Positive Bloggers. Yep, just as the name implies, it's about blogging your positives and creating a healthy attitude of gratitude. There will be challenges, but I'm thinking more in the sense of creating a healthy attitude. The healthy attitude will flow over into all areas of our lives. When we learn to love who we are, just as we are, then God can begin to work miracles in our lives.

I give the glory to God for the creation of this team and trust that He will continue to guide each of us to the reality of a healthy mind, body and soul. My apologies for not having created the team sooner, my humanness was baulking at the preceived responsibility...when in fact I am only God's instrument. When God has a plan, He will see that it comes about. Do you know just how insistant He can be???? LOL. He also has a great sense of humor!

Thank you for the positive response that I already see on the team. Once I got over my fears of starting a team and coming to terms with "what's the worse that can happen"....no one joins, God took control. He just wanted me to be willing to take that first step and He has taken care of the rest.

It's the same in our daily lives...we just have to be willing to take that first step, placing one foot in front of the other to get where we want to be....HEALTHY! Don't look at becoming healthy as a chore, but rather an adventure. For some it may be a slow winding path, for others a short distance, yet others bumps and boulders in the road. If each of us keeps our focus on enjoying the path no matter what, we will find that the journey will be filled with excitement and wonderful experiences. I'm ready to some fun, are you?

My positives:
A wonderful and light feeling, because I finally did what I have supposed to do.
All of the Positive responses and open hearts.
Walking to work with Shy today, and then continuing on my walking journey as she had to go to work and I didn't! LOL
All my ironing is done.
A greatful heart.
Caring friends.
Yippee our Nancy Jane is back!
Knowing that I am God's instrument, not His foreman!
Knowing that I don't have to have all the answers and plans worked out, I only have to be willing.

Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint on it you can.
Danny Kaye

Have an awesome day,
Hugs,
Wanda

I see new roads opening up in front of me... And yes they are a little scary, but let's just hang in and see where they take us... Learning to change ones attitude to become HEALTHY has to be a POSITIVE thing...

Baby steps and lots of them will help us reach our goal to be Happy and Healthy...

Wanda - I went to bed early (not feeling well) and got up just now (10 pm) to come on Spark People to write a blog stating that I don't think I can even spark anymore... I envisioned telling you all this & regretting it but don't have the heart to continue on. Then BAM! Your invitation to the new team you created.... then reading your blog. You've done it again! Encouraged me to keep on trying - to not give up. To keep the positives flowing in my life & make the negative thinking stay at bay. You're incredible! Love you, Marla

Wanda, I am truly honored to be invited to your new team. I have been following your positive blogging for a few weeks now, and admire your spirit. If you can be flexible with me -- I am not sure I'll find time to blog daily -- I'd be pleased to join your team. I do think the positive attitude you are promoting is something I want to cultivate too.

A great day!

Monday, September 08, 2008

I'm on holidays for this week, I got to sleep in...yippee! I was up at 7am though as that is a real sleep in for me!lol.

A bit on the nippy side out first thing this morning, but a great day for a nice walk. Managed to get in a 45 minute walk this morning and then another 30 minute one this afternoon.
Dropped Shy off at work and headed for groceries. It was fun to wander up and down the aisles looking at all the stuff that was on the shelves. Usually I'm in and out quickly, today was a nice leisurely grocery shop. Spent lots of time reading nutrition labels of items that caught my eye. Lots of very "unhealthy" items on the shelves!
Came home, put groceries away and had some lunch. Sat down and started reading a new book. But got antsy....I'm not used to not being busy. lol. Decided that I needed to be doing something, so that's where the 2nd walk came in. I I think I need a schedule of some sort, going cold turkey from a busy work schedule to doing nothing just boggles my mind. Decided that tomorrow I'm going to go and buy some potting soil and transplant some of my plants to bigger pots. I'm thrilled with how well the Apricot tomato plants are doing. Have no idea what the fruit will be like. The plants are some of the ones that I started from seed. I sure hope the fruit is great as I have a dozen of the lovely little things growing! lol. Think I'll take a couple of them to work and see how they do in my office.
After the plants, I'm going to sit down and figure out how to transfer pictures from my camera to the computer so that I can share some pictures with you all. So at least part of my day is planned...I'll see how the rest of the day goes.
My scrapbooking has been calling to me also. I even dreamed about it last night! Might just have to haul everything out and get busy with that.

My positives:

Nancy Jane is working hard at getting back on track. Yippee. Sure have missed her.
Walking and meditating first thing this morning.
I'm on holidays! (even though I don't know what to do with myself! lol)
A fun time grocery shopping.
Food in the house! a big plus!
New book to read.
Life, it's just so filled with wonderful things and blessings.
All of you.

Have a wonderful evening, I'm off to see what everyone else has been up to .

Hugs,
Wanda

Sounds like you need to sit out on that deck and listen to the waves and relax a bit... It may take you a few days to unwind...
You have some fun things planned... I've been meaning to do a photo album fro me and haven't gotten to it... always something else that comes first...
I can't wait to hear how your Apricot tomato plants do... I remember when you planted them this past year...
Will you be bringing all your plants in soon? Not sure how cold it has to be to bring them in... But I remember that you took some out when spring came...
I can't imagine it being cold yet... It was 90 here today... lol And will be for a couple more months...

Enjoy your holiday my friend...
