I survived this morning!

Monday, August 25, 2008

Back to work this morning. I had a new task to perform that left me calling on God for courage and direction! I had to stop the indexes from running on the computer system and then start them re-indexing! I had my step-by-step instructions with me. It was still a little daunting though at 6am with no one else around, just me. I'm a little nervous when it comes to our entire computer system...wrong thing pushed and the whole system could crash. Lots of praying going on this morning...especially when for some unknown reason the computer mouse was not responding properly. I checked the cables and they were all fine, but the mouse was not being very cooperative. What should have taken me 10 minutes to complete took almost 45 minutes, and most of that was spent trying to get the mouse to move! In the end all went well, re-indexing completed and much thanks goes to God for His assistance. When our IT guy came in at 9 am, I informed him I had trouble with the mouse, he checked it out, shut a switch off on the back of the server and turned it on again and that ornery little mouse started working just fine! Go figure! LOL

My positives:

Re-indexing completed, I didn't crash the system and I gained some more IT experience!
Busy day at work, always a treat, the day just Zooms past.
Kaeli home for one more week, she leaves on Sunday for school and Greece.
Garry came home for lunch today and then phoned me at work to tell me he had made a lovely salad and it was waiting for me to have at suppertime! What a sweet guy! (I love salads, but hate making them, besides Garry's are always so good and filled with everything)
My wonderful friends on SP who always have messages waiting for me when I get home. Thank you, you are all such blessings in my life.

Tomorrow is "talking Tuesday", so stop by a strangers page and leave an encouraging message. You just never know the ripple effect that you can cause.

Have a blessed evening.

Wanda, I think we can all relate to the computer mouse! I learned to fix about 3 jobs back. Our IT person told me that whenever anything happened to my computer, it was a good idea to shut it down - or at least cut the power to it. Count to 10. Then turn it back on. I wondered how he got his job!! But it works 98% of the time! Hahahaha...

Glad you go the re-indexing done...and the mouse working...and how wonderful of your husband to make that salad for you! He's a keeper!

Hugs, Maurizia

God is so good. My computer experience happened when we had merged with another bank. They moved me temporairly to another faculity and I hit something and couldn't figure how to get it back. I had just met the employees from this facility and had to contact the computerdepartment. I asked him if I had to get on my knees and beg. He just laughed and hit a couple things and "poof" it was back. It's so great to know God gives each of us talents to share with each other. Glad you made it through your task without incident.

Great husband you have there. That was so considerate. I love salads too but it seems to take so long to fix them.

Oh Wanda... You reminded me of the time I Formatted the hard drive on the computer by accident... It was early one morning and I did one little thing and poof it was all gone... I knew what I had done right away and just started crying... lol I then got up and proceeded to reinstall the entire warehouse system... It took me all day and then some to get back everything I had lost... Luckily I did backup everything on a daily basis... but still took forever... Never made that mistake ever again... lol

You reminded me of the days I was still learning and I loved it... I wanted to know WHY about all of it... hee hee

Glad you day went by fast... and what a great hubby to make you that salad and then to call and tell you about it... Yay Garry... You get brownie points for that one...

Have a great evening my friend...

Sunny Sunday!

Sunday, August 24, 2008

I was all geared up to head out the door this morning to help out at the fundraiser when I got a phone call to say that it has been postponed until a later date. Not sure why, but figured seeing as I was already to head out the door, I might as well do that! Ended up taking a nice hour long walk. So not a wasted morning at all!

Spent some time this afternoon sitting at the "seashore" and made a great start on the afghan that Shy wants. I had made one for her sister and brother and have just been waiting on Shy to let me know what color she wanted. Yesterday we went and picked out the wool. It's a lovely varigated wool in purples. It's the same brand that I used for the other two afghans. So soft and comfy. Shy is thrilled that she is now getting hers too. Give me about 6 weeks and I should have it done!

Garry should be home sometime this evening from his weekend of golfing and Kaeli should be flying in around 9pm from her weekend in Vancouver. My nest will be full again.

Although I didn't go and help out at the fundraiser, I still made good use of the time....I walked instead.
Started on Shy's afghan.
A wonderfully warm sunny day.
Quiet time at the "seashore" (aka my back deck)
An email from my Granddaughter.
God's blessings.

Hope you all had a wonderful day too.

Wanda - I too wish I'd had learned to knit. Never did though. Now I don't know if my hands would let me. They cramp up so much anymore. Dialysis related. Well, I am glad you got your walk in. Aren't those early morning walks the best? I love that quiet time. Looking forward to that in the morning myself. Enjoy your family coming back to the nest!
Love ya, Marla

Wanda, good for you taking that walk! Not sure if I would have done that, or just stayed home. Hope I'm gathering the tools to make the right decision!

A yarn store has opened in my town and as I walked by on Saturday, thought I might go back to knitting. As an 11 yo child, I began to make my own sweaters...and have made a number of afghans...but family members took them. I do have one (crocheted - could never get the hang of that) that my mom made for me...and she made valances & pillow pockets to match. I still love using it to cozy up in winter! I think you've inspired me in another way, Wanda!! :)

Hugs, Maurizia

Way to take advantage of the day by getting that walk in... I was wondering if you'll go back to aquasizes again when the weather gets cold. Not sure why, but I was thinking about that the other day... lol

Oh and I've made lots of afghans... I actually made one for me, after I did one for all the kids... lol I was proud that I actually remembered me... lol But I crochet them... Is that what you do or knit? I've never learned to knit.

The purple variegated sounds beautiful... She takes after her mom with the purple eh? lol

Well I know that she will enjoy it especially since it's made with your loving hands...

Enjoy your evening...

You knit. I'll help you can and you teach me to knit. I always thought I would try that but probably need some one on one to learn. That may be a project I start when I get all these others done. LOL

Hope they get the fundraiser underway for the family but it was great you made great use of the time.

It's always great to get the family back under your roof.

Life is just plain great!

What strange but peaceful day today. My house feels so empty with Garry and Kaeli gone for the weekend!
Had some wonderful meditation time this morning out at the seashore(my back deck lol). Listened to the waves crashing in on the beach (wind blowing through the leaves on the trees ). Basked in the warm sunshine shining down on me, just appreciating all the little sounds of nature. AHHHHH!

Shy dragged herself out of bed around 10 am and when she was ready we headed into the city to do some shopping and walking. Both of us bought jeans....yay! some that fit now!

Stopped at Boston Pizza on the way home this afternoon to have a late lunch. Taco salad for me (minus the shell and garlic bread), Spinach dip for Shy. We had a fun time together, lots of giggles and laughter over nothing!

Came home and tossed in a load of laundry, I'm saving the rest until tomorrow. I'll throw it in before I head out the door to the fundraiser. Thanks for the good wishes everyone...we are hoping that it will be a great success.

It's time to head out the door and get my walking in...I spent too much time reading after we got home this afternoon, now I need to get my exercise done! lol.

Meditation time at the "seashore" (aka my back deck)
Warm sunshine.
A fun day spent with Shy.
Happiness reading everyone's positive blogs.
Mauri's awesome project.
Marla getting her walk in today.
Kathy's upbeat attitude.
Polly's friendship...such a blessing. Actually....everyone's friendship...you are all a blessing in my life.
I'm still on track and believing that my ticker is going to start moving again!

Have a wonderful evening,

Your day sounded so wonderful all the way around.

When all of children left home it really seemed quiet around here. That may be why all of you say my blogs sound peaceful. LOL Now when they come I am ready for the peace and tranquility to find it's way back after all day. LOL I do enjoy it but it seems it's all in what we get used to.

Jeans that fit. Woo Hoo! Congratulations.

Just got back from making myself go for a long walk. I was feeling so tired right after supper and needed to really get myself motivated. Went for a short walk that turned into an hour walk. Yay! burned 500 calories today with all the walking I have done.
Garry left to go golfing for the weekend with his BIL. I'm sure he will come back Sunday night tired but happy.
Kaeli is in Vancouver attending a friend's wedding this weekend and Shy and I are hitting Edmonton South Common to do some walking and shopping tomorrow. On Sunday, I'm helping out at a fundraiser for one of the families that lost their home last Sunday night due to a lightening strike. Sure hope that it is a good fundraiser as the family can really use the help.

My Positives:

Being fabulous and motivating myself to get my walking in for the day!
People in my life that care for one another.
It's Friday....need I say more! lol
Reading in the newspaper that next Saturday will be a day that the public can go and try out for free different Yoga classes. On my list of things to do!
Being alive.

Have a wonderful evening, keep smiling.

Wanda, you ARE fabulous!!! Hope the fundraiser is very successful! So devastating...I think about how I may lose one thing in my house (like my charger card for my mobile phone's earpiece) and I think it's disastrous...but this sure puts it into perspective, doesn't it? ~~ Hugs, Mauri

You truly are FABULOUS.............especially for getting that walk. I don't feel guilty because I didn't but it sure makes me think I need to become more motivated.

I hope the fund raiser does well. I can only imagine losing everything. It always gives me a sense of accomplishment when I help someone or do something for charity. I love being with the people that work and can not recall even once when I didn't enjoy it. I hate that devastation has to be the reason but I believe it's our opportunity to come together in God's spirit.

Don't know much about golf but hope Garry enjoys the game and his time with his BIL.

I'm glad Friday is here for you ..............always loved those weekends myself.

Interesting day at work today. Our department has wonderful large windows that look out over the parking lot. They provide us with lots of amusement as they are mirrored windows on the outside. It is so funny watching people as they primp and preen in the windows, not thinking that we can see everything they are doing. Somethings, we would rather not see!
Today was one of those days, but it involved a huge crane that parked right up close to the windows and proceeded to lift giganitc air conditioner units to the top of the roof. Much of the parking lot in our area was closed off to traffic and parking, but those of us who arrive very early (me) had parked close. So watching the crane lifting things that hovered above my vehicle was rather intense! When I arrived at work at 6am, the area was not blocked off and we had had no warning that it would be, about 10 minutes after I arrived I happened to glance out the window and see barricades being set up and the caution tape being strung around. A little disconcerning when it's still dark outside and you are wondering what has happened! Seeing as their were no police cars, I knew it couldn't be anything too bad. lol
By the time others started arriving to work around 8 am, they were having to park further away and cross through the barricades to get inside. About 9:30 we were finally told why it was all barricaded off, but no requests to move vehicles which was good. Unfortunately it did mean that our delivery entrance was inaccessible all day as well as our Bookmobile parking access.
Life is never boring at our library! lol.
Watching that crane and all those units being lifted up to the top of the building was rather awe inspiring when you realized just how heavy they were and how tall that crane was.

My positives today:

My vehicle was not crushed under a heavy unit! lol
My performance review was great...an increase in pay is coming! Yippee!
A husband who cares, he phoned to make sure I was okay after he dropped Shy at work and saw all the tape and barricades! (awwww, he likes me!)
Summer is supposed t0 return tomorrow!
Books to read!
Bringing up the complete computer system this morning went very well....everything behaved and cooperated! (Major blessing)
Sharing laughter with co-workers.
Wonderful emails from my sp friends.
Marla's awesome walking and being able to get rid of the walker!
Kathy and Andy only feeling the rain effects from Fay.
Just being alive to enjoy this day.

Have a Fabulous Friday tomorrow, looking forward to hearing all about your fabulousness.

An increase in the paycheck. Have you started that kitchen yet?

Great guy that Garry for checking on you.

Always nice to know your vehichle wasn't smashed. Makes you wonder when you see that kind of activity. It's pretty awesome how they can manipulate things and get them on top of buildings and whereever they need.
