Cool weather.

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

A much cooler day today...okay...dark skies and rain! It's been so hot that the rain feels down right great! No thunder boomers, so that is good also.

Spent time at work this morning working on my performance review, I have a review tomorrow. We have them once a year, they are actually rather helpful, but so long to fill out. They do give you very good feed back on all aspects of your work, all very helpful. I struggled some with setting 3 goals to be accomplished over the next year, but finally came up with some, once I understood that they didn't all have to be work related, they could also be personal.

Shy has been starting work early this week, so decided to take my lunch break when she got off work so that I could give her a ride home (raining). Was nice to get completely away from work and have a really quick lunch break at home. We live close enough that I was able to do this during the time alloted.

Garry is going fishing up north with Quin, so he is getting rather excited about that....Marla....I'll ask him to catch a fish for Kevin and take a picture! LOL.

Not much for news today but here's my positives:

A nice cool day, just perfect for doing some walking indoors (lol)
Wonderful friends on SP who think of me.
Mauri...thank you so much for the encouragement you gave me today.
A great day at work. Shared laughter.
Talked to one of my brothers today. It's been awhile since we last conversed.
A husband who cares and loves me.
God's direction in my life and the time He allows me to come to decisions.
Kathy and Andy being safe from Fay (the hurricane for those of you who may not know!)
Marla up and walking.

There are so many daily blessings, some so small but blessings none the less.

Have a great evening, hug someone and tell them you love them for being who they are.

You're welcome, Wanda. Sometimes we don't realize the effect we may have on another...how they may be words that are needed or uplifting to people. This positive blogging has helped me learn that! Lovely blessings in your Thursday! ~~ Hugs, Mauri

I'm sure you'll do well on your review. We had those when I worked ..........having to set goals and we had to evaluate ourselves that was hard. I should have known you all then .........you make me see some of my strong points ........that was hard. LOL

You always have wonderful positives.

Wanda - I love cooler weather and can hardly wait. Glad you came up with your 3 goals and I'm sure they're good ones. Oh yes, please tell Garry to post a picture... or you post it for him! LOL

Nice that you could talk to your brother too. Life's too short, ya know? I love keeping in touch with my family.

Thanks for counting me in on your positives today. I do feel much better walking now! Love ya, Marla

August 20

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

It's Wednesday already!

Yesterday was a very busy day at work, by the time I got home and got some things caught up at home, I was so tired. Headed for bed early last night.

Today promises to be another busy day, which is okay as the day seems to go by faster and I enjoy being busy.
It's supposed to cool off for the next couple of days...rain is predicted (probably more thunderstorms!).
The rain at night has been rather nice, cooling things off so a person can at least get some sleep. The lightening strikes on the other hand not so much fun. On Sunday night someones house was hit, they managed to crawl out a window, but the house was lost to fire, then on Monday night another house in Leduc was hit and the house was lost to fire. Very strange hearing this happen and especially two in a row.

My positives:
That God protects and keeps us safe.
Rain at night to cool things off.
Busy days at work, mean that the budgets are being spent!
Spending time with Kaeli before she leaves for Greece.
Staying on track with nutrition and exercise.
Being alive.

Have a spectacular day, it's Walking Wednesday so lets keep moving.

It would be nice to have some rain but not the lightning. Glad to hear no fatalities with the fires and so sorry about the loss of their homes.

Time does fly and I know you are spending quality time with Kaeli. I'm sure she is getting a little excited though.

Nice having you back.

    Hi Wanda...

Walking Wednesday... That will work for me too... I will get my 15 minutes in on the treadmill... No giggling now... I know that you walk for hours on end... lol

Glad your days are going quickly and hope they slow down at night to allow more precious time with Kaeli...

So sad about the people that lost their homes to fire... Thank god they got out safe...

Thanks for your prayers to keep us safe as well... We were lucky and this storm was not bad at all... Just lots of rain and some gust... At one point they predicted the eye would go right over us... but thank goodness it stayed a Tropical Depression and well below us... I am catching up on the damamge that it did do... Looks like some flooding in some areas and some tornado's spun off in a couple areas... So glad that we prepared... it could have been a lot worse for us as well... And it's still going... it will build up strength and turn back and go across northern Florida now... So we will continue to have rain and gust for a few more days. But the worst is over for us...

Enjoy your Walking Wednesday... Time for me to hit the treadmill too...

Wanda, I agree on those busy days...does help the day go faster. Sorry to hear about those two homes. So sad for those families...but a lesson to us, isn't it, that things of the world are fleeting...so let's enjoy each day. Okay..walkin' Wednesday so will definitely have to walk at lunch! ~~ Hugs, Mauri

I'm back....

Monday, August 18, 2008

I'm back....yippee!

We had a wonderful time. Headed out Thursday as soon as I was finished work. Took a new route to the southern part of the province. Ended up at supper time in Drumheller (dinosaur land). Stopped for a salad and lots of cold water....temperature was 35 C. When you stepped out of the vehicle, it was like walking into a wall of heat! We were going to go and see the museum, but it was already closed for the day and we wanted to make it as far as Brooks to spend the night. What interesting country around Drumheller. Very arid and desert like. Once you cross the river though, it becomes more hills and greener.
Arrived in Brooks about 9:30 pm, a long day for me and I was more than ready for sleep.
Headed out after breakfast next morning and drove to Medicine Hat, where we stopped at the GMC dealership so Garry could pick up some keys and make arrangements to have the vehicle he had to bring back with him to be ready for us to pick up on Sunday while they were closed. Had a drive around Medicine Hat to see what it was like. Very pretty there. Had an early lunch and then headed for the border and Cypress Hills Resort on the Saskatchewan side.
Got to CHR around 2 in the afternoon, what beautiful country it is there. Cypress Hills is the highest point in the province of Saskatchewan. We couldn't check into our room until 4pm, but that was okay as others coming for the reunion were all starting to trickle in and we had a great time looking at everyone's name tag to find out who we all were! Time has been good to most of us, others I would never have recognized if they hadn't been wearing a tag.
Friday evening was a free evening for everyone to continue arriving, check in and general get the lay of the land.
Saturday morning Garry was in a golf tournament and I spent the morning walking the trails and around the lake as well as visiting. I found a back deck that no else seemed to have found( maybe because you couldn't smoke out there!) and managed to spend some down time just mediating and listening to the breeze in the trees. (God even provided my ocean sounds in the midst of the woods!) We attending the huge BBQ later that evening and it was amazing to see how quickly almost 400 people were fed! They had a great supply of salads and veggies and we had brough our own water bottles.
Later Saturday evening was spent with yet more visiting, story telling and looking at pictures.
Sunday saw us saying goodbye to everyone and promising that we would be attending the next one in 3 years and bringing more family members with us. Drove to Medicine Hat to pick up the vehicle Garry would drive back , at that point we would be driving in separate vehicles for the next 6 hours until we reached home. Took another different route home, saw more interesting country.
Glad to be back home and having this day off to relax before heading back into a busy work week.

My Positives:

A fantastic and wonderful weekend away.
Traveling mercies, no problems on the road or with traffic.
Seeing friends that we haven't seen, most for 34 years!
Getting caught up on who is where and who is no longer with us.
Feeling really good about my appearance and seeing that I was one of the "smaller" people there!
Seeing so many of our native community and hearing how well they have done in life. Many of whom have wonderful careers and many who have already been able to retire!
Knowing that my SP friends were thinking of me and waiting for my arrival back home. HEY I'M BACK NOW!

Now it's time to go and visit the blogs and catch up on all that I have missed.

Welcome back, Wanda! We missed you...I kept wondering why SP wasn't notifying me of yours and Marie's blogs...then would remember. Geesh. My emailbox felt empty without those reminders! :) Sounds like such a wonderful time, but glad you found time for relaxation and meditation...and how wonderful that G_d brought the ocean along for you! :) ~~ Hugs, Mauri

Leaving tomorrow....

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

We are leaving tomorrow right after work and hope to be home again on Monday. I'm so excited...this will be the first sort of holiday that Garry and I have been able to take for years. We did go to a family celebration in July but that was not a holiday!
This time, it's our own schedule and doing what we want to do. Seeing who we want to see and just having time together without family. ( sometimes you just need that!)

A great day today.

My positives:
The power at work made 3 attempts to go out this morning, but thankfully...I didn't lose my computer and server connections. They did go off with the surges, but came back up real nice! YIPPEE!
Didn't get a chance to go for an actual walk, but have put on almost 10,000 steps anyway.
I was able to use my gift certificate from Christmas to get a manicure after work. It's the 2nd one I have ever had. It was so nice to have someone else tidy up my nails for me. I seem to always be breaking or splitting my nails at work and even though I split one this week, the young lady was able to glue it so it wouldn't tear off. This might very well be the first time I have had nails long enough to just peek over the ends of my fingers! lol.
(little things thrill me!)
Came home to the find that the girls had made supper.
Garry made the decision to leave tomorrow.
Laundry almost done, now it's time to iron and pack some things.
Friends who care about what I am blogging LOL.

See you when I get back,

I'm so happy you and Garry are getting to spend time together. You're so right we do need time with our spouse.

Look at those positives! 10000 steps in ........a manicure....woo hoo........and supper ready when you got home.

By the way ..........no problem I can put those vegetables up for you. LOL I'll have Kathy pick me up and I'll be up just as soon as she comes by and picks me up.

I'm anxious to hear how your week end went.

Be safe. I know you'll take the holy spirit with you and surround yourself with your angels.
