Thought this was worth sharing...

Thursday, July 31, 2008

This was in my mailbox at work this morning and thought I would copy and share it here on SP.

An optimistic attitude helps protect your health and boost resilience, even during times of uncertainty and change.

People who focus on the brighter side of situations are more likely to take care of themselves - eat right, exercise and get regular checkups - and avoid feeling discouraged.

Any change, happy or worrisome, causes stress in your life. It's the fear of the unknown that makes most people uncomfortable. Staying flexible and open-minded can help. After all, change and adapting to it are simply parts of life - at work and at home. Having a healthy attitude is the key to coping.

How to handle change
•Accept that change is inevitable.
•Put things into perspective; the change may be easier than you think.
•Look at the positive side and for opportunities to grow.
•Develop supportive relationships and share your feelings.
•Clarify goals and expectations, then move on.

Remember: Few people escape the stress of today's fast-paced, changing world. If you focus on the positive side of change, you might just find that it can renew your energy and inspire new ideas!

Wanda - What a sweetie you are sharing that with us. Change is hard. I have a tough time dealing with change...but I'm working at it & it's getting so much easier with time. My DH Kevin is a huge help in that dept. for me.
Love you, Marla

Thanks Wanda... As I read it I thought back to a day that I was so flexible, people didn't know what to think... lol always happy...
We were breaking in a new boss one time ( total of 6 before we were done lol) And one of the first things he said to me is "You're not this positive all the time are you" I just smiled and said yes I am... And then I actually let him take all that from me over the next couple years... But he had to work very hard to do it...

So glad I'm headed in the right direction again...

Thanks for this post... It has touched me...

Enjoy your day my friend...

Strangest thing happened....

Wednesday, July 30, 2008

The strangest thing happened to me today!
When I got home from work, I saw there was a message on the phone. Checked the caller ID and I didn't recognize the name so listened to the message. They hadn't actually left one, just hung up. Never thought about, as that happens. A while later, the phone rang, and I noticed it was the same person calling. Here is the conversation:
(caller)..."Have I reached the right number?"

(me)..." I'm not sure, what number were you calling?"

(caller)..." I was calling the number for miracles"

(me)..."uhmmm, well, I sure would love to be able to provide you with your miracle, but I'm really sorry, you have the wrong number."

(caller)...laughs " I'm sorry, you have a good day now".

(me)...laughing ..." you too, bye."

Okay, now, that was just plain strange! It isn't everyday that someone calls and wants a miracle! I'm not sure who other than God performs miracles, but I do know that although I serve God, I am in no way in His league of performing miracles! LOL.
Then I sat and thought about the call...it was so strange, that I began to wonder all sorts of things...who was the lady calling for a miracle, why was she calling, how did she get my number, who is advertising that they provide miracles, was there a message in all this for me? My mind has been really boggled over this. Decided that I would just take it to the Lord and ask Him to provide the caller with her needed miracle whatever it may be, and that if there was a message in all of this for me...then apparently I'm a little lacking in understanding it, so please clarify. How come these strange types of things keep happening to me...am I missing something here???

My positives:

A great day.
A strange but funny phone call, that left me laughing as well as connected to God.
My curried veggies from last night tasted even better today for lunch...the spices had really co-mingled and yummmmm.
My training session that I had to do for a practicum student went very well.
Lots of opportunities to put extra steps into my day at work.
Sharing with SP friends and hearing their positives.
Reminder from God that He has a sense of humor and loves me.

Have a spectacular evening. Marla, you are kicking butt my friend...you'll be chasing Kevin around the block soon! lol

Well Wanda, even though I wasn't the caller, I certainly do think of you as a Miracle Worker too!! I think God is just letting you know you're doing good, plain and simple. That you are performing what others think of as miracles in their lives. And you know what? Maybe that teeny little conversation and the laugh she got was the miracle she needed!!!
I'm glad your day was so nice. Your curry is STILL making my mouth water! Yummy is right!! Have a great day. Love and hugs.

Wanda, G_d works His miracles through us...I truly do believe that...for how many people would really recognize that He did it in today's world when a lot of people have given up on miracles? So, perhaps, just hearing the kindness in your voice may haven given her hope that her miracle CAN happen...In my life I see miracles everyday! They are not big deals - like taking pain away...or lbs....but in the people I meet. The miracle that happens is that each person brings something to our lives. Or perhaps, G_d just wanted you to think about miracles...and look for them in your life... ~~ Hugs, Mauri

Wanda - Oh, I agree with Marie 100%. As far as the miracle of this fairly new group of positive bloggers. That is your contribution to being God's helper as far as showing us the way, leading the path, if you will, to getting out of our FUNK & seeing life in a more positive way by blogging the good in our day.

Wanda - You don't like that pat on the back, I know,....but Our Dear Sweet Lord works in mysterious ways & He's working through YOU, my Precious Friend!

The phone call.. maybe it was just someone reaching out, needing help with some issue or struggle... and copied someone's number down wrong. If she calls again.... I would try to talk more to her... draw her out... maybe there is a message there...for either you or her. Follow your gut & listen to her. It could just be a fluke....dialing the wrong number too. Maybe you'll never know. She may not call back. But, if she does, I know you'll help her in any way you can. It'll not only possibly make her feel better, but you as well.

Thank you for sharing this blog with us all though. I thoroughly enjoyed not only reading about your "miracle call" but you sharing your day with us.

Love you, Lots! Marla

That is rather strange. Miracles are performed everyday by people who allow God to work. Not sure where you fit in but maybe she just needed your prayers which you gave. I do agree with you I hope someone is not claiming to perform miracles for I believe those are from God. As far as performing miracles have you thought about the miracle you brought about simply by asking all of us to blog. You did this simply by following what you thought God would want of you. That is how a lot of miracles happen.

Just a thought

Now that was one strange phone call... lol Very Spooky too... There has to be a message there... Oh I've got it...

The Poem... Ode to a Finless Friend...

You provided a miracle and helped me with my Tail Fin... No more going in circles... LOL I loved that... You are too funny my friend... I'm glad you chose to play and be silly with us...

Now if you figure out anything more on this phone call you let me know... do do do do... do do do do The Twilight Zone... hee hee

But God does work in mysterious ways... And knowing you... you will figure this out... In Gods time... you will...

Enjoy your evening...

Another new "invention"

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

I decided to be creative today...I got out the crock pot this morning, tossed in all the veggies that I had prepared last night before going to bed (didn't think my family would appreciate me chopping and making noise at 5am!). Tossed in butternut squash, cubed russet potatoes, zucchini, carrots, onions, green peppers, celery and spices. Turned it on low and let it do it's think all day. When I got home from work, I added tomatoes and a jar of Tikka Masala lemon & coriander sauce and then some frozen peas. Cooked up a pot of brown rice. Yep, supper was good!
Garry even phoned me at work this morning to tell me that when he got up for work, it was already smelling pretty good in the house! I now have some lunch to take to work tomorrow. I'm thinking that by tomorrow the curry spice will have had even more time to be very spicy!
Managed to get in a 30 minute walk while waiting for Shy to finish work. Probably need to go for another walk tonight to walk off some of the calories I had a supper time. lol.

My positives:

A great supper creation!
Time for a walk while waiting for Shy to finish work.
Time to catch up on all Kaeli's news from her weekend trip to Vancouver. She is so excited about going to Greece in about 5 weeks time.
Time to sit out on the back deck with my eyes closed listening to the wind rustle through the leaves on the trees. Pretending that I'm at the shore and the waves were coming in!
Having a relationship with God.

Enjoy your evening, keep moving forward, even if it's only crawling on your hands and knees.

I am moving forward, I'm almost ready to get off my hands and knees too! Thank you for all the love and support and advice, I needed all of it and am taking your advice on it. It's slow going, but that's okay with me as long as it's going. And once again, I've learned some very important lessons along the way.

Wanda - Your supper sounded fantastic! When's your next one? Am I invited? LOL

I had some "me time" last evening on the porch for awhile. So quiet, peaceful, just before night fall... the city was going to sleep.. the birds were singing me a good night lull-a-bye. All was calm & peaceful in my world. I kept praying for peace everywhere & for all my fellow sparkers to be healthy.

So glad your positiveness rubbed off on others, especially yours truly!

That dinner sounded very good... I love cooking in the crock pot... I think it's about time to make a beef barely soup. I still have a small head of cabbage left from the garden I can add to it too... Thanks for the idea... lol

Oh to be young like Kaeli's and headed to Greece... Wouldn't that be wonderful... I can see me there... hee hee

Loved your meditation too... I miss being out where it is quiet... I'm hoping to move to our rental home in the next town over... Haines City... It's so quiet there... Away from all the Disney tourist and all that comes with it... It will be peaceful, when we finally make up our mind to move...

Enjoy your evening my friend... And oh WATCH OUT FOR THAT WAVE! CRASH... hee hee

Monday July 28

Monday, July 28, 2008

We had a terrific thunderstorm roll through here last night, felt like we were directly beneath it. The thunder was so loud that the pictures were vibrating on the walls. Felt it was safer to just shut down the computer and wait until today to touch base.

The skies looked black still this morning, but cleared off to a beautiful sunny day, although weather reports say we will be having more storms. Oh well, the moisture is sure needed and the lightening displays are like watching a fireworks display. So incredible...just not lots of different colors!

Busy day at work, just the way I like. We are working with a skeleton staff right now in our department...lots away on summer holidays and as some come back others are leaving. I'm taking this Friday off and we are closed on Monday...so a nice 4 day weekend and then I'm off the 15 -18 as we are attending a reunion in Saskatchewan. I'm getting rather excited about attending it. Many of the people we haven't seen in over 30 years. Must get busy and hunt up some pictures to take with me.

Had a great weekend. Managed to finally get some clutter cleaned out of the house...maybe more this weekend too! It's like you can breath deeper when you get those monkeys off your back. lol.

Seeing as it's Monday and Monday's seem to have this reputation of being....well....not so great. I thought I would share a chuckle.

The Final Question
A contestant on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" had reached the final

If she answered the next question correctly, she would win $1,000,000.
If she answered incorrectly, she would pocket only the $25,000 milestone

As she suspected it would be, the million-dollar question was no pushover.
It was, "Which of the following species of birds does not build its own
nest but instead lays its eggs in the nests of other birds?

Is it:

A) the condor

B) the buzzard

C) the cuckoo

D) the vulture

The woman was on the spot. She did not know the answer. She had used up
her 50/50 Lifeline and her Ask the Audienc Lifeline. All that remained was
Phone-a-Friend Lifeline. She hoped she would not have to use it because ...
Her friend was, well--blonde.

But she had no alternative. She called her friend and gave her the question
the four choices. easy. The answer is C: the cuckoo."

The contestant had to make a decision and make it fast. She considered
a reverse strategy and giving Meredith any answer except the one that her
had given her. And considering her friend was a blonde that would seem to be
logical thing to do. But her friend had responded with such confidence, such
that the contestant could not help but be persuaded.

"I need an answer," said Meredith.

Crossing her fingers, the contestant said, "C: The cuckoo."

"Is that your final answer?"

"Yes, that is my final answer."

And Meredith replied, "That answer is...........
Absolutely correct! You are now a millionaire!"

Three days later, the contestant hosted a party for her family and
friends, including the blonde who had helped her win the million dollars.

"Jeni, I just do not know how to thank you," said the contestant.
"How did you happen to know the right answer?"

"Oh, come on," said the blonde.. "Everybody knows that cuckoos
don't build nests. They live in clocks."

Have a wonderful evening.

Okay, first , love the joke!! I'll have to remember to ask a blond if I need an answer to an important question! LOL We've been having bad weather here also off and on. They predict bad storms and the sun shines all day and then they predict sun and we get near hurricanes!! And this is with all that new equipment they have, LOL, so I just take each day as it comes and just wait to see what happens!! LOL
It's great that you're getting some time off, I can just picture you sitting and meditating and floating throught those days!
I just want to thank you also for all the information and support and love you've been giving me. It means so much to me and really helps also.
You have a wonderful day or rather evening and I look forward to talking to you again soon. Love and hugs.

We are suppose to have rain for this next week... Hoping it will let off so that we can take Kyle to Universal Studios... No fun in the parks when it rains...

Saturday July 26

Saturday, July 26, 2008

Shy and I had a great day today. We left around 10am for the city and West Edmonton Mall. We got there around 10:45 and then spent the next 4 hours wandering around all the stores, trying on things just for the fun of it, checking out Sephora's new store and burning calories walking. Burned 310 calories at the mall with walking...I will have to only do a short walk this evening to make my daily goal of 500 calories burned by walking!
We had a wonderful "girl" day. Left Garry at home to do yard work and haul things to the donation bins....nice aren't we????

It's a beautiful day out today, a nice breeze is starting to pick up so walking this evening will be very nice.
My positives for the day....

A day spent with my youngest daughter.
Burnt calories from all the mall walking.
Free samples from Sephora store
Found a pair of 89.99 dress pants for 27.99....and in a size 10 to boot! I love sales!
A great husband who stays behind to work on the yard and haul things to the donation bins.
Being alive!

Life is definitely good.
