We had a fantastic holiday. It was wonderful to head back up to Lake Athabasca, spending time on the lake and revisiting Uranium City. That was a bit hard on the heart strings, but I think Garry and I both got some closure as well as the kids were excited to see where we grew up.
The fishing was fantastic. I don't have Shyra's pictures as yet of her catch, but when I do I will post them also. Shyra's first time fishing and she started off with a small 5lb lake trout and worked her way up to a 25lb lake trout. Kaeli caught herself some small ones too and then ended her trip with a 23lb lake trout.
It was great to hear the girls say that they had so much fun and would go again! We had wonderful weather while there. It only rained the first night and then we had some 29plus temps for the rest of the holiday.
We had to postpone our trip to the Athabasca Sand dunes to another trip. We started out, but the waves just got too big to make the crossing safely. We hadn't even made it to the middle of the lake when the swells were at 4 feet. Decided that our aerial views would have to do for this trip.
Spend some great time around the campfire at night. It was wonderful having no cell phone or internet access. So peaceful.
I over did things with my knee, but wasn't going to miss out on the tramping through the bush and seeing things. Actually I didn't realize how much walking I was doing until I got home, as I never checked the Fitbit while there. I have to take things a bit easier this week though as my knee is letting me know I over did things.
Getting Ready to Go:
Shyra being silly and giving me a "morning face". She really wasn't grumpy.
Kaeli is raring to go.
Garry doing his last minute checks.
Kaeli watching Garry help Shyra with her seat belt. We flew up to the lodge in a small 9 seater Caravan.
Shyra's first time in a small aircraft.
