July 24

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

It's another one of those days where my mind is blank and I have no idea what to title my blog. Am I the only one that has trouble coming up with titles??

We got lucky yesterday. We started off with storm watches, that turned into storm warnings, that turned into tornado watches and the then the big one...Tornado warnings. Enough of an emergency that they used the Alberta Emergency broadcast alerts over the TV. I haven't heard yet this morning what if any damage has been done, all I know is that the storm missed us by only a few miles. The last that I heard on the TV was that Edmonton was getting blasted with rain. The clouds were amazing though and moving incredibly fast. What was weird was to visually see how fast they were moving and how low, yet on the ground there was hardly a breeze! We must have been on the edge of things as we got very little rain even. I'm happy to report that this morning all is well in our part of the world.

My poor kitty has a sore leg. I don't know whether she sprained it when she jumped down from somewhere or if maybe she has a bit of arthritis in it. She sure is favoring it and licking it a lot. I will have to make a stop at the health food store to see if they have anything that I can safely attempt to give her for pain. The chances of me getting her to a vet and having them safely look at it are incredibly slim. She would have to be sedated first and I'm not attempting to stick my hand anywhere near her mouth to give her anything when she doesn't want to be touched! I will have to monitor her and see how things go.

My positives:
No tornado touch downs that I know of in our immediate area.
Blessed with a new day of life.
20 points on the spark spin this morning...woo hoo!
Friends and family that give me encouragement and support.

Have a blessed and wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

Glad you are all safe. Hope kitty gets better, if our pets could only talk to us and let us know where and why they hurt. Good spin this morning, woo hoo! Have a great Tuesday.

Hugs,
Shirl

Heigh ho, heigh ho, it's off to work I go...

Even my 3 day weekends seem to whiz by, what's up with that?? We did get a lot accomplished this weekend though. Me doing inside things and Garry doing yard things and his garage.

Yesterday we took a break and headed into the city to hunt out the antique mall that we had heard about. Spent a couple of hours wandering around, looking at things and remembering having used this or that. It was a fun way to spend some time.

Kaeli popped over in the afternoon to enjoy some sunshine on the deck and then stay for a bbq with us. Shyra and Kyle had gone to the Capitol Ex to enjoy the sights and sounds of the exhibition.

This week, I need to get some things together for our family time in Saskatchewan this coming weekend. We are hoping to get away after lunch on Friday and will be home again hopefully by supper time on Sunday.

My positives:
Lots of small projects done this past weekend.
Family time, which is always a blessing.
Blessed with another new day.
Adjusting to a gluten-free diet.

Have a wonderful day, keep your focus on your goals, don't let the little things trip you up.

Hugs.
Wanda

July 22 (already!)

Sunday, July 22, 2012

Got lots done around the house yesterday. Garry spent the day outside doing yard work and re-organizing his garage. I spent most of the day inside doing chores and dicing up the green peppers I purchased into 1 cup bags, vacuum sealed them for the freezer and then baking up some mango/stravberry loaves for the freezer. I made some homemade gluten-free pizza for supper. Not bad, the crust wasn't as crispy as we like, but still good. Today I am going to continue to copy some juice recipes out a book I borrowed and also juice up all the melons that I purchased, saving the pulp into vacuum sealed bags and freezing it for later use in baking. I definitely like my vacuum sealer, just need to keep my eyes open for another freezer!

Have a blessed and wonderful day. Rejoice in being alive and give thanks that you have been blessed with another day.

Hugs,
Wanda

Ahhhh the weekend.

Saturday, July 21, 2012

Enjoyed my Friday off yesterday greatly.

Called a friend and met up with her for a great afternoon visit. Went for groceries in the morning and almost everything that was on my grocery list was on sale as well as some great sales on things that we use normally. I stocked up on them and they are not in the cold storage room. Love when you get such great bargains. That's when I love having some extra money to buy enough to have on hand.
My Watkins order arrived also, so now I have more things off my wish list. I'm very blessed in the fact that I have a great rep.

We had a rain shower last night during the night and this morning the sun is shining brightly. The squirrel that lives in the trees behind our fence is presently giving my cat supreme heck for daring to be out in the yard. There must be a nest that the squirrel has in the trees. My cat can't even get to them, but the squirrel just knows there's "danger" and is chattering away non-stop.

I baked a couple of loaves of mango bread last night. The house still smells good this morning. One loaf in the freezer and Garry will polish the other loaf off right quick I'm sure.
I have enough mango pulp left from juicing the mangos that I think I will make another couple of loaves today. Might even through in some diced up strawberries into it, as I have some fresh strawberries that need to be used up.

My positives:
It's Saturday and Garry is off work, time together.
Great visit with Sandy.
Sunny start to the day.
Blessed with so much.

Have a great and wonderful day, Smile and laugh, it's free therapy.

Hugs,
Wanda

The mango bread sounds yummy and I bet some strawberries thrown in would just add to the yumminess. Enjoy your weekend.

It's My Friday!

Thursday, July 19, 2012

Yay, it's my Friday today. Even though I have worked only a four day week, I still am so pleased that today is my last day for the week. It just seems like it's been a very long week!

Hot day yesterday, a small sprinkle of rain during the night. The clouds are still hanging low this morning, but supposed to clear off some and be intermittent sunny periods. We will see.

| have had a pretty successful week of living gluten-free. Thankfully we don't eat a lot of "packaged" foods, as they all seem to gluten in some form. I did find a really good white rice pasta (spaghetti) that Garry and I both liked. You have to rinse it lots though or it sticks together like glue. I think timing in cooking it is everything though. Although I have never been a big bread eater, I have discovered that there are times that I really would have liked to grab a sandwich. I borrowed a great book from the library Company's Coming Gluten-free baking and am going to give a whirl at making my own bread. Shouldn't be that much different than making bread using wheat flour. (I hope).

Next weekend we have a family get together at Garry's Mom's in Saskatchewan. Garry, Kaeli and I will drive down Friday and head home again on Sunday. Shyra is going to stay home and tend to the animals, ours and theirs. Bless her heart.

My positives:
Learning to living gluten-free.
I've got a yummy spinach, strawberry and blueberry salad for lunch today with raspberry dressing. Dessert and lunch all rolled into one *grin*
It's my Friday.
Doing well with getting my steps in this week.
Blessed in so many ways.

Have a great and wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

That lunch sounds a lot better than food available at the balloon festival where I worked last night with their fried Twinkies and fried Reese's PB Cups.

Enjoy your weekend. John and I are off to hear jazz on Massachusetts' North Shore...on the Atlantic Ocean. Yea. Down time!

Hugs.
