and it's raining yet again!

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

This is the strangest weather I can recall. Elsewhere it is hot and bone dry, and here we have been having higher than usual temperatures, but we have also been getting lots of rain! We had another thunder storm roll through in the wee hours of the morning and it's still raining.
Not that the rain is necessarily a bad thing, I just wish it would rain some on the areas of the country that desperately need it too. On the plus side, my potatoes love the weather, my sump pump is working and keeping all this rain out of my basement and it does cool things down and make for a much nicer sleep.

My positives:
It's payday today...yah, I can pay bills and get groceries.
All this rain has cooled things off at night and lessened the chance of forest fires.
Half way through my work week.
Borrowed a great book from the library : The Funky Fresh Juice Book by Jason Vale. It has lots of great recipes in it for a variety of juices. I'm adding to my recipe collection and trying out some of these juices.
Blessed with a new day of life and determined to make it a healthy one.

Have a great and wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

Adult Children...

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

Adult children can be such a pain at times. At least when they were little you made the decisions on what was best for them based on the knowledge you had at hand. When they become a.,dults, you can offer advice, but they make their own decisions. Which is as it should be, but it can also be very frustrating when you feel they are not seeing the bigger picture. Siggghhh, now I know how God must feel, when his "adult children" don't make the best decisions.

Q had an accident at his place of work, which resulted in a major break in his collar bone (now he has broken both sides). Because of the severity of the break, it was recommended to him that he have surgery to repair and that he give it time to heal. Needless to say, my macho son, has decided that work can't do without him and that if need be, he will have it re-broken in the fall when he gets back and have the surgery then, He figures because he drove himself by boat (on a major lake with waves) to the nearest hospital (an all day trip there and back) that he should have no problem working the rest of the summer. I, on the other hand, see all the potential issues of leaving the break and the possibility of damage being done that can't be repaired at a later date. He is a professional fishing guide and having mobility is necessary. My only recourse is to attempt to reason with him once again and then give it to God and trust that God will keep him safe and perhaps move him the best direction for the best possible outcome. I know, I know....free will and the consequences that go with that, but my Mom's heart is troubled.

My positives:

That Quin was not more seriously injured.
That I have raised a strong and self-reliant son who has an incredibly strong work ethic.
God in my life,
Blessed with a new day of life.

Have a great and wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

July 16

Monday, July 16, 2012

The rain that was supposed to have stopped by midnight last night still continues. Two days of solid raining. Much better than the drought conditions occurring elsewhere I will admit. I'm just glad that the week of temperatures in the 30's is over.

Now that all the heat is gone, I am hoping to get back on track with my steps and exercise. Last week was not a good week for my steps, not bad, just not what I have been doing. I did at least get lots of water into me!

Not much as yet on my agenda for this week. Work as usual, but nothing else coming along that I know of yet.

My positives:
We are blessed with rain that is so badly needed in other parts.
The heat has departed and we are left with more normal temperatures for our part of the world.
A good night's sleep last night.
Blessed with a new day of life and the ability to move my body.

Have a great and wonderful day. Make wise choices.

Hugs,
Wanda

We are back to hot & humid, maybe a chance of rain this week. I am going to the gym when I get done with my sparking, did not get any exercise in while Peggy was here, but that's ok it might be 2-3 yrs. before she gets to visit again and I wanted to spend my time with her. I did put on 2 lbs. while she was here, but will work hard to get it back off quickly. Hope you have a marvelous week.

Hugs,
Shirl

Another good storm blew through last night.

Sunday, July 15, 2012

We had another boomer and rain storm blow through last night. Still overcast this morning. The bonus...it has cleared the smoke from the air and cooled things off. YAY.

All the smoke in the air was a result of fires up north and the winds blowing it down towards us. It was so thick here that air advisories were issued and you couldn't see across the big field near us. Sitting outdoors was not an option, nor were keeping your doors and windows open. With last night storm that has changed.

I'm learning more about living gluten free. I have been attempting to eliminate gluten from my diet now for a couple of weeks. Definitely noticing a difference. Now I need to learn a whole new way of baking and cooking. It is amazing how many things you purchase that contain wheat! Things that I never would have considered having wheat in them before. Thankfully, Garry is on board with learning to live gluten free even though he isn't having issues with it.
Makes things so much easier.

I borrowed an excellent book from the library...Company's coming: Gluten-Free Baking. I like it so much, I want my own copy. Neither Amazon or Chapters has it in stock, so will try all my other ways that I can attempt to get it. Seeing as it is published right close by in Edmonton, I will contact the company direct and see if I can purchase a copy.

My positives:
A much better sleep last night...cooler temperatures.
Learning more each day about living gluten-free.
I had a nice long visit with my SIL on Friday...she came over and we spent the day together. It's been months see we have visited.
Shyra came over Saturday evening and ended up spending the night.
We got together with both girls for supper last night.
Phone call from Quin.
Blessed with a new day of life.

Have a great day, be grateful for the blessings in your life.

Hugs,
Wanda

and now there is heavy smoke in the air!

Friday, July 13, 2012

Yesterday was spent recovering from a severe storm that sweep through our area, this morning is having to close up all the windows and doors due to the heave smoke that is in the air. Most likely a forest fire started by the storm from the other night. I had hoped to spend my day off out of doors in the garden and doing yard work today, but with the smoke...well let's just say, I'm stuck indoors! www.globaltvedmonton.com/red+cross+s

We spoke with our son again yesterday and he said they have several fires burning in the area where he is up north. On the plus side, he is situated at a huge lake and can head out to the water if the fires get too close. Breathing will be difficult though, so he will have to wet some towels to breath through if need be.

Life is just filled with interesting things! On the plus side, when these things happen, it helps me to add to my list of emergency supplies that we need to have on hand in case of a disaster. I'm gradually getting my supplies and preparations in place.

My positives:
It's Friday!
I have the day off, although won't be doing what I had planned outdoors, I can always find something to do indoors!
I'm blessed with a new day to be creative in.
I am slowly but surely gaining knowledge about living a gluten-free lifestyle. It's amazing how many things that we eat without realizing that have gluten in them!
Blessed with awesome kids and a hubby.

Have a wonderful day, count your blessings.
Hugs,
Wanda

Hope the fire stays away from you....it is definitely fire season with all this dry, hot weather. Take care and I hope your son stays safe.
