and now there is heavy smoke in the air!

Friday, July 13, 2012

Yesterday was spent recovering from a severe storm that sweep through our area, this morning is having to close up all the windows and doors due to the heave smoke that is in the air. Most likely a forest fire started by the storm from the other night. I had hoped to spend my day off out of doors in the garden and doing yard work today, but with the smoke...well let's just say, I'm stuck indoors! www.globaltvedmonton.com/red+cross+s

We spoke with our son again yesterday and he said they have several fires burning in the area where he is up north. On the plus side, he is situated at a huge lake and can head out to the water if the fires get too close. Breathing will be difficult though, so he will have to wet some towels to breath through if need be.

Life is just filled with interesting things! On the plus side, when these things happen, it helps me to add to my list of emergency supplies that we need to have on hand in case of a disaster. I'm gradually getting my supplies and preparations in place.

My positives:
It's Friday!
I have the day off, although won't be doing what I had planned outdoors, I can always find something to do indoors!
I'm blessed with a new day to be creative in.
I am slowly but surely gaining knowledge about living a gluten-free lifestyle. It's amazing how many things that we eat without realizing that have gluten in them!
Blessed with awesome kids and a hubby.

Have a wonderful day, count your blessings.
Hugs,
Wanda

Way to count those blessings! Hopefully, the fire is not nearby!

Hope the fire stays away from you....it is definitely fire season with all this dry, hot weather. Take care and I hope your son stays safe.

Rolling Thunder

Thursday, July 12, 2012

We have been listening to rolling thunder and lightening since 1:30 this morning when I had the be gee bees scared out of me by a crack of thunder that must have been directly overhead. The lightening didn't even seem to be finished lighting up the room when the thunder crack. Windows rattled and I must have jumped a foot off the bed! Right now, there is hail coming down the size of peas. As long as it isn't bigger, there should be no real damage done to the gardens and crops. On the plus side....it is cooling things off a bit and its rather spectacular watching nature's display of power. Lack of sleep is a given with everyone these past few days. It's been mostly due to the heat, but last night will be as a result of all the "noise".

My positives:
Love watching the amazing power of nature.
The hail is on the smaller size, so no real damage being done. Lots of rain in between bouts of hail.
The house is only 26 this morning, much cooler than the 31 yesterday.
It's my Friday...I have been thinking of actually going in to work tomorrow as there is so much work to be done and it's cooler at work...but things have cooled off somewhat and my mind is waffling now *grin*.
Blessed with a new day of life.

Have a great and wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

Some temporary relief...

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

We had some temporary relief from all this heat roll through a couple of hours ago. A lovely boomer with some rain mixed in. It sure feels nice to have a bit of a break from all the heat, although only temporary. Temps are supposed to continue to be in the 30's again today.

It's nice to have the doors wide open this morning as I get ready for work. The bit of cool air coming into the house is a welcome thing. I figure if I can let some of the hot air from indoors out, then maybe the house won't be so stifling when I get home from work. What a blessed and varied life I lead *grin*.

My positives:
Although lack of sleep is not fun, I was able to get about 4 solid hours last night.
I think that I have figured out through trial and error that gluten and I are not on good terms. I will give it another few days of eliminating wheat from my diet and then see if re-introducing it gives me the same issues.
Blessed with a new day of life.
A lovely chat by radio phone with Quin last night. Sure looking forward to seeing him next month.

Have a wonderful day, choose to be positive.

Hugs,
Wanda

August will be here before you know it and you'll be with Quin in person and can talk face to face, what a nice family time that'll be. I finally got to sleep after 1 a.m., my arthritis was acting up everywhere, I finally got up and took two pills and that did ease thing up some. We had to be at the VA at 8:40 this morning for DH's CT scan with dye, that was the last test he had to have done before his surgery. Niece left yesterday and her and her dad arrived in Ohio late yesterday. Now I need to try and get back in a routine again. They say we might get some significant rain this weekend, the lawns are so brown, but the heat and humidity are suppose to be back too. I hope Marla is doing ok, she doesn't post very often, but I see her on friends. Well stay cool my friend, it's nice you leave the basement door cracked so kitty can go down where it's cooler. Enjoy your evening.

Hugs,
Shirl

Melting!

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

I wonder if sweating could be considered an exercise??? Oh My Gosh...the heat is something else. We are not used to having these kinds of temperatures in Western Canada, especially with the humidity. Another 34 degree day today. Our house only cooled down to 27 overnight. Fans are going full blast. Unfortunately we will have to shut them off when we leave for work, as they have been having rolling power outages due to the demand on the grid. I will leave the basement door open for the cat so that she has a cooler place to go to during the day. With luck it won't heat up by leaving the door open. It is already 22 degrees out at 4:40 am.
On the plus side...I get to escape the heat while I am at work...we have an air conditioned building. And another plus...lack of appetite, but then lack of movement counter-balances that!

Have a great day,
Hugs,
Wanda

That is the type of heat we have been having for a few weeks now. It has finally cooled down where I was able to shut down all my fans this morning.

Running behind this morning

Monday, July 09, 2012

Be careful what you wish for....we finally have summer and we have summer with a vengeance!
31 degrees yesterday, 34 predicted for today and low to mid 30's predicted for all this week right through next weekend. Yikes!
Thank you Lord that I get to go to an air conditioned building for work!

I'm running late this morning due to the fact that it was unbearably hot for sleeping last night. Then just as the fans started to cool things down a bit the power went off for an hour only to come back on long enough to get the clocks all reset, the fans going again and think about falling asleep once more and go off again. This time I set the alarm on my phone. By the time things came back on again it was almost midnight. Yay, 4 hours of sleep last night! On the plus side...we know that our fire alarms work (they are hard wired into our power, so when the power goes on or off they ring), 4 hours of sleep is better than none, I have an air conditioned place to head to for work, and there is lots of water in the taps!

Have a blessed and wonderful day (I'm working on having a positive attitude *grin*)

Hugs,
Wanda

We seem to lurch from one extreme to another these days with the weather. Mother Nature is really chucking stuff at us with a passion! LOL
Here we are in the UK sitting above the jet stream, when the jet stream at this time of the year should be sitting above us! As a result, it is cold for the time of year, and very, very wet!
Great weather for ducks! *grin*
Hope the weather levels out for us all! :-)
Hugs,
Lex xxx
