Our first boomer of the year!

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

We had our first real boomer of the year last night. Certainly cooled things off during the night, I woke up this morning to find myself bundled into the covers like a cocoon.
It was nice to lie there last night before falling asleep and listen to the sounds of nature. The rain the thunder and the see the flashes of lightening.

Quin's girlfriend, Afton called yesterday and popped over for a quick visit. It was great to see her and hear how her and her brother's trip up to see Quin had gone. They went fishing with Quin and Afton got to see what he does all those months they are separated. Nice catch !

Garry's aunt and uncle called and are stopping in for a visit on Thursday. We haven't seen them in far too long so really looking forward to seeing them. Then on Friday we are getting together for a bbq with friends. A busy week! But it's the long weekend for us Canadians. July 1st weekend...4 days off for me *grin*

My positives:
A great visit with Afton.
A great visit with Kaeli, who stopped in on her way home from work.
Looking forward to seeing Pat and Friday tomorrow. Looking forward to getting the long weekend off to a great start with a bbq on Friday!
A new day for goals and being the best I can be.
Blessed with many wonderful moments and with life.

Have a great and wonderful day,

Same old same old...

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

Nothing new to report today, it's one of those old same old, same old feeling kinda days. Mind the day has just started, so who's to say what might occur *grin*.

A very busy day yesterday at work and more of the same today. I got home from work yesterday to find that my books that I ordered from Amazon had arrived. Yay, I now have my own copy of Kitchen Cures and three books on gardening and preserving the harvest from my garden. Very interested in reading the one on preserving foods without canning or freezing. This might end up being another project ...possibly building a root cellar of some sort...I won't tell Garry about the new project until I'm sure of what is involved*grin*.

My positives:
A new day to get excited about.
Ants appear to be gone completely in one garden bed, but a bit more stubborn in the other...more cornmeal hmmmm!
My new books from Amazon.
Being mindful of my nutrition and water intake.
Life and all the blessings that come my way.

Have a great and wonderful day,

June 25

A new work week begins...time to get back into the frame of mind that is conducive to a positive attitude for work.

I was pleased with myself that I met my goal for steps yesterday. Weekends are definitely a slower time for me. More time is spent outdoors, but it's in the garden and hanging out with family and friends. More sitting and bending and pulling of weeds, but less of the actual moving the feet.

Not much for news this morning, just the usual getting ready for work and planning out my week.

My positives:
Really enjoy the fact that I have long weekends every week this summer.
We had great weather this past weekend, the first of real summer weather.
Working hard at staying on track and making sure that I get my water in each day.
Blessed with a wonderful family.
Blessed with a new day to be all that I have been created to be.

Have a wonderful Monday,

Hope your knee is feeling better. I had too many places hurting this last weekend, but got through it, the humidity is lower along with the temp so body isn't hurting as much. Isn't it amazing how the weather can affect our bodies and not in a good way. I am still amazed it how quickly your veranda got done, I bet it's nice to sit out on.

Winding down a great weekend.

Sunday, June 24, 2012

This has been a lovely weekend, not quite over but it's Sunday and I needed to get up early this morning so that I can head to bed early tonight in preparation for an early rise tomorrow morning.
We had unexpected company stop in yesterday for a wee visit. It was great and we now have plans with them for a get together this coming Friday evening. The girls dropped over to join us for supper and an evening of sitting on the deck and visiting. With all the sitting going on yesterday, I really bombed out on getting my steps in. Not necessarily a bad thing as I had been for my massage yesterday morning and Wendy spent some time working on the swelling on my right knee. This gave my knee some time to recover a bit.

We had a beautiful day yesterday, temperatures were a bit too hot for me out in the sunshine, but it cooled off nice last night with the rain that we got.

My ant problem in my two raised garden beds seems to be clearing up thanks to the liberal sprinkling of cornmeal in the beds. I will check them again today to see if there are any little critters left and if need be will re-sprinkle cornmeal to get rid of any that are left. I spotted one of my peanut plants breaking the surface yesterday, YAY. Perhaps there is hope yet for the other ones that I planted. I'm also trying to grow some green onions by planting the cut-off end with the roots from some green onions I bought at the store. Apparently you can plant the cut off ends and they will re grow...supposedly you can do the same thing with celery. When you buy a celery bunch and cut off the old root end and place it in water to root then replant it, it will produce more celery. I plan on giving it a try. www.gardenswag.com/2011/12/5-foods-y

My positives:

The interesting things I can learn from the Pinterest.com
Finding natural and healthy ways to solve problems.
Spending time with our girls.
Unexpected company.
A gorgeous day yesterday and then a nice rain at night to cool things down.
Blessed with a new day of life and joy.

Have a wonderful Sunday, be grateful and give thanks for all the blessings in your life.

I did get some pictures taken of our new veranda, now I need to find my cords in order to upload them to the computer. I put them away so I would know where they are!!!

Massage day

Saturday, June 23, 2012

Yay, it's my massage appointment this morning. I am so in need of a massage this month.

Yesterday I managed to walk to my bank appointment but had to get Garry come and pick me up as I knew there was no way that my knee was going to allow me to get home. Definitely a confirmation that I can no do long walks at the moment. I will still need to break up my walking into much shorter stints, which unfortunately does little towards getting my heart rate up, but it is what it is at this time. At least I am walking and getting steps in. I didn't quite make my goal for steps yesterday as my knee was not cooperating, but I came close, so I don't feel too bad.

I discovered that two of my raised garden beds have become home for ants, probably why those two garden beds have not been producing much. I googled how to get rid of ants naturally and have now tried two of the methods to see if they work. The vinegar and water spray didn't do much of anything, so then I sprinkled cornmeal over the entire beds. Apparently the ants will eat it and because they can't digest it they die! (Now that I feel really bad about, but I need to have a producing garden bed!). Hopefully the cornmeal method works, if not I guess it's back to the internet to see what else works.

My positives:
The internet, which supplies me with organic and natural ways of doing things.
I got my hair cut yesterday and because Kaeli offered to pick me up, got in a nice visit with Kaeli also.
I get to have my massage this morning.
Blessed with a new day and awaking up this morning.

Hope your Saturday is filled with smiles and laughter.

I usually get a massage when I'm hurting. Wonder what it is like to just get one?
I just looked at your positive team and decided to try it. Glad I stopped by today.
