My washing machine is still not working and I'm waiting on a part for it. In the meantime, the laundry is building up and I need some clothes. Yes, I could load everything up and go over to the girls to use their machines, but it seemed like more work than washing things by hand! (Did you catch the word "seemed"??) My bathtub makes a good washing basin and I have to admit that letting all the shirts soak overnight in the tub with oxyclean has really made them look sparkly clean *grin*. I've got one load rinsed and into the dryer. I would like to have hung things out to dry as I can not get as much water out of the clothes as my machine can, but it is against the bylaws of our county to have an outdoor clothes line. My dryer will just have to work overtime today to get the clothes dry. I did all Garry's dress pants yesterday and they turned out fine. Only two more loads to go. It's funny how as I have been doing laundry this way, how many memories from childhood I recalled about laundry day growing up. We didn't have automatic laundry machines, but we did have the wash tub and scrub board and then the big day that we got our wringer washer. That was a celebration day and we couldn't believe how much easier doing laundry was. I was about 5 years old on that day. My mom was so thrilled. We still hung our clothes outside on the clothes line. I hated having to help hang them in the winter time. They were usually frozen before you even got them on the line. I could never figure out why Mom insisted they be hung out because we always took them back in off the line a few hours later still frozen solid and draped them over things in the house to dry. Does anyone remember those crazy pant stretcher things that you used to have to put in each leg of the pants to stretch them out and ensure that the pants dried with seams aligned just so? Perhaps it was just habit with Mom to hang everything to dry no matter the weather. But I do know that that is where I developed the love of the fresh smell of laundry. Nothing like crawling into a bed at night with the fresh smell of laundry on the clean bedding.
Trip down memory lane.
Having the ability and know how to wash my laundry by hand. (It really does come cleaner!)
Although it rained during the night, there is some sunshine this morning. Lots of clouds still so suspect more rain yet today. I'm enjoying the sunshine while I can.
I am about half way through my recipe organizing project. I just have a few books to go through and then it's on to the ones I have saved on my computer. (I would love to print them off, but my printer at home is not compatible with my laptop. I might send some of them to myself at work and just print them off there.)
Blessed with life.
Have a great day, don't forget to smile.
