Day of rest...

Sunday, June 03, 2012

I had to make myself get out of bed early this morning, just so that I would hopefully be able to get to sleep early tonight. It's a 4:30 am wake up again tomorrow. Where did the weekend go???

Garry and I were invited out last evening to Shyra's boyfriend Kyle's place. It was a lovely invite and we got to help him break in his new "man cave". We didn't stay that late as Kyle needed to be up early this morning to head for the airport with his Dad. They are off to Winnipeg to see his grandfather.

Garry and I spent the day yesterday hunting for a the best deal on a new front door. The one we have has no window in it and I hate not being able to see who is on the other side before opening the door. The are certainly pricey! May be waiting yet a bit on that choice.

Today we are going to just spend the day relaxing. Garry has to head to Saskatchewan next weekend with his brother to check on their Mom and do some outdoor work for her. He needs a day of just relaxing.

My positives:
We didn't get the thunder storms that were forecast. Got the clouds, but no rain.
My garden is coming along nicely.
Visits with the girls and Kyle.
Making some progress on my recipe project.
A day with Garry relaxing today.

Have a wonderful day, enjoy being alive.

Project is underway!

Saturday, June 02, 2012

I set a goal for myself. Because I have been blessed with Fridays off for the next 3 months, I was determined that they wouldn't be wasted. I set the goal of each Friday being spent working on a project.
Yesterday morning I went and got the supplies that I would need to begin working on the project of organizing and transferring my recipes into binders. I have so many bits and pieces of paper with recipes on them that finding the one I wanted was no longer an easy chore. It is long past time to do something about it.

I made that start yesterday. It's a daunting task, but will only get better and less daunting by beginning! I have begun *grin*

The girls stopped by at dinner time and shared a meal with me. Garry had to work late, so was very nice to have the company. It was such a nice evening that we sat out of the deck and enjoyed the weather.

I took all the paperwork into the County office to obtain our permits for building the veranda. This time I had a different lady who hardly glanced at the papers, said they were perfect and stamped and filled out what she needed, told me how much it was going to cost for the permits and said it would be about a month before they were issued. I hadn't expected the delay of so much time, but oh well, at least the permits are paid for and that is a good thing.
We will still have time to build the veranda and enjoy it this summer.

My positives:
A productive Friday.
Time with the girls.
Permits are applied for and paid for.
Beautiful day yesterday, I was able to sit outdoors and do some of my work on my project.
A nice sleep in again this morning.
Garry has today off work, so we will have time together.
Blessed with a new day of life.

Have a wonderful Saturday. Don't forget to add smiles and humour into your day.

Good for you for tackling the recipes, would you like to come help me with all mine after you get yours all done, lol, seriously this is something I need to do also. Yay on the permits, Estelle's right those 30 days will be gone by before you know it. I am glad we have sun today. Enjoy your long weekend. Wouldn't it be wonderful if Marla could get a kidney, but sad for her friend and their family.

Happy June 1st!

A new month and what a great start for me....my first Friday off in my reduced work schedule! Woo Hoo.

I got to sleep in until almost 7am, so nice from getting up each morning at 4:30 am for work.
The cat didn't understand though that her breakfast was not forthcoming at 4:30 am!

So far this morning I have had a shower, gotten dressed, just made a nice kefir milk smoothie for breakfast, got all the bottles out for WINN to pick up. (we donate all out returnable bottles/containers to a charity.) Re-drew the veranda diagram that didn't meet all the expectations of the person at the County hall I talked to yesterday. Hope I get someone different today as I'm not an architect, the measurements are accurate and hopefully this person will be able to figure out the direction that beams and joists are going as I added in a directional arrow in the middle of the line. The person that I saw yesterday was having a very hard time understanding what arrows at the ends of the lines meant, so she used her pen all over my drawing which then made it impossible to read! Oh well, if I want my permits I have to please the person waiting on me.

Once Garry returns with the truck for me, I will head out to the County once again, then over to the store to pick up some index cards and plastic pockets to slide them into for my binder, come home and start working on my project of transferring all my recipes from pieces of paper and well used index cards to new cards that I will have protected in plastic and in a binder.

My positives:
I have Fridays off for the next 3 months as I attempt to use up my overtime hours at work.
I have set a goal for myself that I will spend my Fridays working on my projects at home that need to be completed or organized.
Life...what a blessing to have a new day to be creative in and enjoy all that the day has to offer.

Have a great and wonderful day,

May 31st

One more month has come and gone...and I am slowly making progress. I'll take any kind of progress slow or fast!

Yesterday for the first time, I forgot my Fitbit at home and didn't even realize until part way through the my morning when I went to check on my progress. Arrrgggh. I manually counted my steps from that point on and when I got home I made a good attempt to get as many recorded steps as possible on my Fitbit. I will record my steps for yesterday using what shows up on the Fitbit and what I manually recorded. Manually 2076 steps plus Fitbit 7051 for a total of steps that I know for sure yesterday of 9127. On the plus side of having forgotten my Fitbit at home...I'm pretty sure that I would have managed to get my 10,000 steps plus in if I take into consideration those steps that didn't get counted! Go Me!

Garry's brother stopped in last night to have dinner and spend the night. He lives in Red Deer, Alberta and is often in the area for business. We are always happy to have him spend time with us. I went to bed at my usual time, but I know the two brothers didn't get to bed until after midnight...I'm thinking there are going to be a couple of tired guys today!

My positives:
How mindful I have become of steps and how easy it was to slip back into counting them manually.
A nice visit with Brian.
Kaeli's surprise call and visit after work yesterday. We usually don't get together until the weekend, so was great to have a visit with her midweek.
Being granted a new day of life and the opportunity to be all that I can be.
Blessings and a grateful heart.

Have a wonderful and mindful day.

Isn't that Fitbit a blessing and I'm also lost when I forget it on my nightstand in the morning. Thank God I've never forgotten it for a whole day though, hee hee. Have a great day!

What a difference a few hours make.

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

Yesterday morning started off the same as most mornings, but by early afternoon things turn an unexpected turn.

Garry's place of work has been sold to a big Auto group. There hadn't even been a whisper that it was about to occur. I won't go into details of what lead up to this, except to say it was not a distress sale or fire sale, it was a case of GM flexing it's muscles and forcing an issue to get the results they wanted. Two long time local businesses are no longer owned privately or by local people, they are now under new ownership by a big faceless conglomerate. Will the change be a good one, perhaps in some ways. But when you take the local and personally involved out of a situation the commitment to a community is gone. A very sad an emotional day yesterday for all the employees and for Mr. Petersen. Another case of the little guy taking on the big guns and suffering the consequences because the big guns don't like the results. On the plus side, there is no employee job loss, at least for the present time. The new owners have never owned a GM dealership before and as this was one of Canada's top dealerships they don't want to mess with the formula as yet.

My Positives:
Garry still has a job and hopefully for a while.
We do not have much in the way of debt except for our mortgage.
The estimate for building our new veranda came in at about half what we had anticipated, which is great, cause if there is unexpected expenses, we will still be okay.
A nice little rain last night to water my garden and plants.
Blessed with a new day of life.

Have a great and wonderful day. Find your positives.

So happy that Garry still has his job. Same thing happened when I was working for Stokely-Van Camp (Gatorade)... Quaker Oats came in and bought them out... Before that I often wondered what a real job was. hehehe Well I found out... WOW did things ever change. And not all for the good.
Good Luck to you all and hope that things don't change too much too quickly.
WTG on finding them positives too...
