What a difference a few hours make.

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

Yesterday morning started off the same as most mornings, but by early afternoon things turn an unexpected turn.

Garry's place of work has been sold to a big Auto group. There hadn't even been a whisper that it was about to occur. I won't go into details of what lead up to this, except to say it was not a distress sale or fire sale, it was a case of GM flexing it's muscles and forcing an issue to get the results they wanted. Two long time local businesses are no longer owned privately or by local people, they are now under new ownership by a big faceless conglomerate. Will the change be a good one, perhaps in some ways. But when you take the local and personally involved out of a situation the commitment to a community is gone. A very sad an emotional day yesterday for all the employees and for Mr. Petersen. Another case of the little guy taking on the big guns and suffering the consequences because the big guns don't like the results. On the plus side, there is no employee job loss, at least for the present time. The new owners have never owned a GM dealership before and as this was one of Canada's top dealerships they don't want to mess with the formula as yet.

My Positives:
Garry still has a job and hopefully for a while.
We do not have much in the way of debt except for our mortgage.
The estimate for building our new veranda came in at about half what we had anticipated, which is great, cause if there is unexpected expenses, we will still be okay.
A nice little rain last night to water my garden and plants.
Blessed with a new day of life.

Have a great and wonderful day. Find your positives.

Hugs,
Wanda

So happy that Garry still has his job. Same thing happened when I was working for Stokely-Van Camp (Gatorade)... Quaker Oats came in and bought them out... Before that I often wondered what a real job was. hehehe Well I found out... WOW did things ever change. And not all for the good.
Good Luck to you all and hope that things don't change too much too quickly.
WTG on finding them positives too...

((hugs))

Another month almost gone!

Tuesday, May 29, 2012

I really do think time is speeding up! This month of May is almost gone. June puts us at the half way mark of the year!

Do you remember as a child thinking that the year 2000 was so futuristic and so far away. Now we are 12 years into the 2000 and I'm thinking as I look back, "no way, have I lived that long!"
On one hand when I look at the numbers, I feel so old, on the other hand, I find it hard to believe that I have reached this age.

My positives:
That I have been blessed with so many days, months and years. I'm very hopeful that I will be blessed with many more...I'm not done my life mission yet!
I had time to enjoy some peaceful quiet time last evening.
I have watermelon and yogurt for my lunch today.
According to the weather forecast we are in for some nice weather this week. A possible chance of a bit of rain today, but that is good for the garden.
I am blessed with friends and family that support and encourage me to be the best that I can be.

Have a great and wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

Good Morning!

Monday, May 28, 2012

This week begins my new reduced work schedule for the next 3 months. A four day work week and a three day weekend! Woo Hoo.

Lots of time spent outdoors yesterday in the garden and visiting with our girls over late afternoon relaxing and a great salad for supper. Fresh pulled lettuce from my pot of lettuce that I am growing...oh so good!

I'm very excited about my new veranda that will be going on the front of my house. Yes, Shirl, I will try to remember to take some before and after pictures to share also *grin*. The veranda is going to be a touch bigger than we first thought, but that will be great as we can then get at least 4 chairs on it, instead of the two we were thinking of. Once all the paperwork is filled out, I'll take it in to the County to get the permits.

We are in for a nice week of weather according to the forecast. Sunny most days with temps around the 22 mark. My garden should start showing signs soon of some seeds poking through.

My positives:
Although Sunday did not see me making my goal in steps, I was busy in the garden and relaxing and enjoying the day that the Lord provided.
My apple trees are all in blossom and the back yard smells so nice.
Short work week begins this week.
Visiting with our girls and Kyle.
Drinking my kefir milk in a smoothie each day, I have noticed a difference in the way I feel.
Blessed with a new day of life and a positive outlook.

Have a great and wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Sunday, May 27, 2012

After much discussion, we have decided that we are going to go ahead and do the veranda on the front of the house. We have all the paperwork that the County requires of us...just need to figure it out and get it filled in and submitted. Then we wait to see if the County approves us with permits or not.

Our next step is we want to get some quotes on how much it is actually going to cost us so that we can begin budgeting for it. We hope to get it done this year, but it will all depend on the costs and whether or not we can do most of the work ourselves. Yay...no more ugly front to the house. Trying to find plants that do well in full sun all day long is difficult. The soil in that area dries out so badly that about the only thing that would do well is bushes or cactus. One would require a tremendous amount of maintenance and the other wouldn't survive winters. I am so excited about getting a veranda.

My positives:

A beautiful sunny weekend. The wind has been a bit cool, but it has been great for working outdoors.
Kaeli popped over for a visit last night.
Read a great book "Raising the Dead" by Chauncy Crandall. He is a cardiologist in the states that lives his life for Christ and has witnessed many miracles and truly believes that God is still performing complete healings today.
I'm slowly making progress in getting all my recipes gathered together and transcribed onto index cards and then into protective sleeves and into binders. I'm going to eventually have only about 8 small binders divided into categories of Appetizers, Beverages, Baking, Canning, Desserts, Meals and Veggies. Then one separate one for Home-made DIY products. Once I have all the recipes from all my books and pieces of papers transcribed, I can get rid of all the awkward books and have a uniform sized set of binders that contain recipes that I will use, not a bunch of recipes in books that I will never make!
Blessed with life, love, family and friends.

Have a wonderful day. Give thanks.

Hugs,
Wanda

I bet you'll get much pleasure from a veranda, be sure and take before and after pics and share with us. I need to organize my recipes and I am playing with the idea of putting together some of my favorite recipes in some kind of form for my granddaughters for Christmas presents. Have a good evening.

Hugs,
Shirl

Good decision on the veranda. Me and my husband built one last year on the front of the house and we absolutely love it. Bought my hubby a rocking chair this year and he is in heaven, hee hee. Have a wonderful day!

Ahhhh,sleep

Saturday, May 26, 2012

Although I was wide awake at just before 7 this morning, I had such a good sleep finally last night. It actually felt like I slept through the night!

It's on the cool side yet this morning, but there is the promise of making it into the very low 20's for the next few days. I'll take it, especially if there is sunshine that accompanies those temps.

Only thing on my agenda for today is Garry and I are having lunch with Kaeli. We do have some yard work to do, plus some other projects to get going on, but nothing set in stone. At some point this weekend I need to go and get some groceries.

I went to the county offices yesterday and got all the information that we need to go ahead and build our veranda on the front of the house. What we want to do appears to fit inside the guidelines. Garry is thinking that we might contract the building of the veranda out so that it "looks professional" . I think he does a great job, but he is concerned about curb appeal, so we will get some quotes. Once that is all in place, we will submit everything to the county and see if they will give us the permits to build.

My positives:

It looks like it's going to be a nice weekend weatherwise.
Garry has Saturdays off now during the summer, YAY.
Lunch with Kaeli today.
A new day of life.
Time to putter in the garden. Some of my flowers look like they might have gotten a bit of frost bite.
Enjoying being with my family.

Have a great and fun filled Saturday.
Hugs,
Wanda
