This has been both a long and short week rolled into one! I am so ready for it to be the weekend once again *grin*

Still somewhat overcast this morning, but we are supposed to see sunshine today. The rain that we have had for the past two days has been nice, but yep, I'm ready for some sunshine now.

Not much happening in my world, just the usually daily living things. I'm grateful for all the blessings that come our way and grateful for the many things that we don't have. It's interesting when you observe those around you and you think just by their appearances...wow, they sure are lucky, or they sure have it great. Then you delve a little deeper and you realize that they are just like everyone else...dealing with struggles and trying to find balance in their lives. No one's life is completely perfect and when we accept that fact, it puts us all on an equal footing. It's how we choose to act or react to situations that lets those around us draw conclusions, to pass judgement. Yes, we are not to judge others according to God's word, but we are humans and we do on some level. Interesting lives we live.

My positives:
I'm blessed with family, friends and love.
Sunshine predicted for today.
There's no snow mixed in the rain which makes me very happy for my garden.
I'm choosing to eliminate weight and exercise, I'm not forced.
I am blessed with all that I need.

Have a great and wonderful day,

Isn't it nice when God waters your garden for you. Hope you get the sun today. We started out in the 60's this morning, had my bedroom window open all night. Margaret and I decided to walk inside this afternoon because of the pollen and heat, so glad we have that option. Called my son and sang happy birthday to him early this morning, it's hard to believe he turns 49 today. Oh I just love holding that little baby and watching her expressions as she sleeps and the little noises she makes, so precious. Have a wonderful Thursday.

Have a great day Wanda. It is still sunny and very hot (29) here today, but I am in the office. Could be a blessing in disguise as they have air conditioning here, hee hee.

It's Happy Hump day once again!

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

It is Hump day as well as Payday! Can't get better than that.

It has been raining for the past 36 hours and is supposed to rain most of today also. It's a good thing as it's a nice gentle rain with no thunder storms. The ground is soaking up the water, my garden is being well watered and the fire ban has been lifted. What a difference a bit of rain makes in how green the world looks also!

Not much happening here, just the usual day to day living. I do have to remember to head over to the County offices at some point today to make enquires into what kind of permits, if any, we would need to build a veranda at the front of the house as well as whether or not we actually can.

My positives:
Quin texted to say that he had arrived safely in Ft. McMurray. From there he will have to fly into the lodge.
A nice gentle rain, so helpful to the earth.
I got my steps in yesterday as well as ate well within my calorie allotment.
It's payday today and I can pay bills.
My reduced work scheduled starts next week.
I have all the necessities of life as well as life itself.
Life is good.

Have a great and wonderful day. Live life as though you are blessed.

Glad the rain has made it so the fire bans can be lifted. I can not believe this weekend is Memorial Day weekend all ready, boy this month has gone quickly by us. This Saturday I am going with my family to see Circ, can't spell the name, they are performers from Canada, I've seen them on cable tv, but never in person, they are all so talented, I am glad I get to see them perform live. I got to hold Cecilia for hours yesterday, she is a real snuggle bunny, she'll be a month old next week. Enjoy your Wed.

We are still getting a lot of sunshine and warm temps. Going to have to water my plants today as the little bit of rain we got yesterday just won't cut it. Have a great hump day!

The long weekend is over and it's back to work.

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

It has been a wonderful long weekend with much in the way of outdoor chores accomplished.
Not the best weekend weatherwise, but still good enough to get things done. My garden is almost completely planted...I forgot to plant my turnip seeds, so will squeeze that in today if it's not raining by the time I get home.
We cleaned out the garden bed in the front of the house. The horrible creeping juniper is gone! as is unfortunately the pine tree that the previous owners planted too close to the house. The decision still hasn't been made as to whether or not we build our veranda out front in it's place or do something temporary until next year. I will try and see the County offices today to find out if permits are required and if so what we need to do to obtain a permit.

Quin and Sage got away yesterday about noon. Sure am going to miss the both of them. With the way that time has been flying of late, they will be home again in no time!

My positives:
A great weekend of getting some major projects accomplished.
Great family time this past weekend.
We are expecting rain for the next couple of days...that will be good for the garden.
Technically my 4 day work week doesn't officially start until next Friday (June 1) but as this is a short work week due to the long weekend....YAY...it's started! Three day weekends for the summer months is going to be great.
My apple trees are blooming and my pear tree still has lovely blooms on it too! Hopefully I will see some fruit this year, but it is only the first year since planting the trees so not sure.
Life is good, filled with many blessings each and every day.

Have a wonderful day,

Yard work progress or have we just created more work for ourselves!

Monday, May 21, 2012

Yesterday ended up being a very busy day, especially for Garry and Quin. Garry decided to tackle the much maligned and dreaded task of cleaning all the overgrown and dead plants from the front of the house. There was the much hated creeping juniper bush that was taking over everything and leaving a prickly dead mess in it's center, a pine tree that the previous owners had planted as a seedling and asked us to please keep as they wanted to transplant it to their new yard. At the time (8 years ago) it was all of about 18 inches high. 8 years later it was towering at about 20 feet high and after repeated contact with the previous owners about when they were coming to get it...it bit the dust yesterday. I hate to kill living trees, but this one had been planted all of 2 feet from the house and was like the juniper, taking over. We were concerned about it's roots possibly doing damage to the underground wires and our basement foundation.
Next, while Quin is still home we used the winch on the front of his truck to help move a huge rock that had been placed in the garden area and could not longer even be seen due to the overgrowth, as well as the roots from the cut down bush and tree. Thank goodness that Quin doesn't leave for up north until today as Garry and I most likely wouldn't have been able to move it by ourselves. We have one tree, a cedar, left to either remove completely or at the very least cut down to about half it's size. It is growing so close to the house that you can no longer open the window and it is pushing against the eaves and growing around them. Garry trims it back every year, but now it just might be a full scale attack!
As we look at the "garden" area we are now left with the decision to make of whether we fill in the sunken areas with more dirt and new plants or whether we go with our much more expensive idea and build a small veranda on the front of the house. Either decision will definitely involve more work *grin*. The area gets full sun from about noon until the sun sets and being right by the house generates lots of heat...a major consideration when choosing plants. Plus we always end up sitting in our garage and driveway in the evenings to take advantage of the sun. Hmmmm.

My positives:
Quin and Garry for all their hard work at getting the front garden area started in it's transformation.
Girls and Kyle came over for a BBQ last evening and a great visit.
Kaeli and I got almost all the garden planted. I just have turnips to plant now.
A great long weekend, filled with lots of projects being accomplished.
Blessed with an awesome family.
I finally located my vinegar crock that I have been searching for. The company will ship to me from the states. YAY!
How blessed we are.

Have a great and wonderful day,

We built a veranda in the front of the house last summer and absolutely love it. Can chat with our neighbors and see all the traffic, kids and dogs going by :) Sounds like you had a busy weekend. Mine was filled with steps, hee hee.

I think a veranda on the front would be lovely and just think of all the sun you could soak up. You were very busy this weekend. Youngest DD and I are going to visit Shanell and Cecilia tomorrow, that'll be fun as she'll be more awake now, love baby time. We have had some rain before noon, hope the sun comes out this afternoon so I can sit for awhile on the porch. Woo hoo on the successful search for your vinegar crock. Have an enjoyable evening.

Heigh ho, heigh ho, it's gardening time you know!

Sunday, May 20, 2012

Yesterday was not a very warm day at all, we barely made it up to plus 8 with overcast skies. Today is supposed to be nicer. I did get out in the garden though and got the rest of my potato seedling's planted. Today will be spent, hopefully, in planting the rest of my garden. I have more carrots and onions to plant. I have radishes, squash, dill, tomatoes and kale to plant today also.
I need to reseed some of my flowers and oh yea...I still have my peanuts to plant!

Should be a good day. Yesterday we did spend some time, Or rather Garry spent some time, cutting down and making a start on digging out the spreading juniper bush in the front of the house that I absolutely disliked. It was all dead in the center and was taking over the entire garden bed area. I'm not fond of juniper bushes anyway as they are prickly and smell gross. Once we get that bed all cleaned out we can decide if we are going to add a deck on the front of plant something nicer. The yard work here is never done, we also manage to find more things to do!

My positives:
The girls are coming over today to help with the garden and to spend some family time.
The garden will be complete by the end of this weekend.
The Juniper bush is gone! YAY!
Although I didn't get all my steps in yesterday, I was not being idle. Prepping the garden beds may not require a lot of stepping, but the arm work out is great.
Blessed with another day of life and untold opportunities waiting for me to embrace.
I had a good nights sleep last night, woke up this morning feeling rested.
Blessed with so much and grateful for it all.

Have a wonderful Sunday, give thanks for all that you have and for all that you don't have.
