April 25

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

Only today and tomorrow to get through and then it's time for some relaxation and non-scheduled days. Yay!

A nice day of raining yesterday, more to come today. Once the sun comes out again, things will green up pretty fast. It's a nice gentle soaking in kind of rain. Exactly what is needed.

I'm on day four of drinking my kefir milk. I have a small glass in the morning and then one again in the evening. Is it doing anything...possibly...I've noticed that the swelling in my right knee is going down. As well, a wart that I've had for almost 2years on the top of my foot seems to be getting smaller. I've had everything possible done to try and get rid of it and it's stubborn. It's been burnt, it's been scraped and had ointment applied. I've tried several natural methods and it's not budged. Now it appears to be getting smaller. Is it my imagination...not sure. All I know is that kefir is filled with probiotics,

My positives:
Almost holiday time.
A nice gentle rain that is soaking into the earth and my garden areas.
Almost caught up completely with my workload at work...makes going away for a few days much nicer.
Blessed with so many things, life, health, love, family and friends....the important things in life.

Have a great and wonderful day.
Hugs,
Wanda

It'll be interesting as time goes on to see how your body is affected by drinking that milk, this is something I may just have to look into, keep us posted. I am so glad you are getting some away from work time, you have been very busy at work lately and I am sure a break would be nice. I really liked the quote this morning. Have a wonderful Wednesday.

What an interesting turn of events...

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

Yesterday was Provincial elections in Alberta. The supposed polls predicted that there would be a very close race for government in Alberta. That the chances of a 41 years reign of the Progressive Conservatives would either end or we would have a minority government with possible new elections again in a year.
Well once again the people of Alberta have spoken and the Progressive Conservatives will remain in power with a majority rule. History was made last night with the election of Alberta's first female prime minister. What will remain to be seen is whether those that lost can actually put aside their sniping and differences and work together to make this province even stronger.
What an interesting turn of events. I will readily admit that I am thrilled with the election of Alison Redford and I like the direction that she is moving the province towards. I wish her much success in pulling all the factions together and finding a way of working towards the betterment of all Albertans.

My positives:
Another lovely day yesterday weatherwise.
I have been given permission to not attend a work function on the basis of the fact that there will likely be lots of flowers and perfume scents there. Yay! It's a long-service awards ceremony and because I've been there over 10 years, I was supposed to attend.
Only 3 more days of work and then holiday time.
Blessed with a new day of life and looking forward to whatever it might contain.

Have a great and wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

Silly,silly me....

Monday, April 23, 2012

The first gorgeous non-work of the year yesterday. The kids all came over in the morning and we spent almost the entire day outdoors, Despite sunscreen I am sporting a mild sunburn today. Thank goodness for vinegar! I have a feeling that Kaeli might even be worse off than me! It's not like we don't know better either, no excuses....just so hard to leave that lovely sunshine on the first day of being able to be outdoors all day!

It's a short work week for me this week and then I will be on holidays until the 7th of May. No plans for going anywhere at the moment, but that could change.

My positives:
Although I didn't meet my daily goal in steps yesterday, I did pretty darn good for having company all day and being outdoors in the back yard. No big walks took place but lots of great visiting.
Short work week.
My first batch of milk kefir was a success. I have two batches on the go now.
Blessed with family and friends.
Blessed with another day of life.

Have a great one today.
Hugs,
Wanda

Sounds like you are having success with your grains, that is nice you and Bre could have an exchange going on there. We have sun, but the temps are not going up a whole lot this week and the darn wind feels like it's coming off an iceberg, but I know eventually we'll warm up. I am glad you got to enjoy the outdoors yesterday and your family. Soon it will be time for your staycation. Have a great Monday.

Hugs,
Shirl

Tried my first batch of milk kefir

Sunday, April 22, 2012

As I had no idea what to expect for taste other than the longer it sits the more sour taste it may develop. It says to leave from 24hr to 48 hr. I choose to leave mine for the first time about 36 hours just to see. The grains definitely reproduce, which is fabulous as I want to try some experimenting this them. I drank about 1/2 a cup of the strained milk...a slight sour tang to it the first mouthful, but really not bad. Put the rest into the fridge to have "cold" later in the day. Might even allow my hubby to have a taste *grin* With the grains, I had enough to actually start two more batches. I bought 3% milk to try them in this time as I only had 1% before. I want to see if that makes a difference in the taste. I also bought some Coconut milk to try a batch in. Once I get the hang of making milk kefir, I want to try making water kefir also.
Our teammate Bre (who is on sabbatical in Paris) emailed me to say that she had obtained some water kefir grains and was making them while in Paris. It's more fizzy and you can add flavorings like lemon, ginger etc. She has a lead on getting some here in Canada, so if I haven't been able to obtain any before she gets home, we will share from our batches so we both have some of each. My fun new ventures begin!

The girls and I had a great time yesterday. The trade show was not as big as we had anticipated and seemed to be mostly spas, jewellery, and gym memberships. I did splurge and purchase a "Lifestrength" band (checkout Lifestrength.com. ) Will see over the next while whether I wasted my money or not *grin*.

My positives:
A girls day out yesterday.
Got my steps in early enough in the day yesterday that I just relaxed with Garry and the TV in the evening.
My first batch of milk kefir grains production.
Absolutely gorgeous sunshine day yesterday...meant lots of outdoor time.
A short work week this week and then some holiday time.
Blessed with so much.

Have a wonderful day, remember to give thanks for all that you have as well as all that you don't have.

Hugs,
Wanda

Ahhhh the weekend.

Saturday, April 21, 2012

I managed to sleep in to 7am this morning...what a treat! Now I am up with Q's dog and my cranky cat for company...everyone else are still in slumberland.
I love the quiet of the early mornings, especially when I've not had to get up for work at 4:30am for work, birds are singing, sun is shining and the world is generally still not stirring. So peaceful.

The girls and I are heading out later this morning to go to a Women's event in the city. There will be tons of displays etc just for women. Should be a great time together, lots of walking and learning new things. A fun way to spend some time with my girls too.

My milk kefir grains arrived yesterday finally and I have them now growing in some milk on my counter. I'm excited to give them a try and find out more about kefir. Anything that allows me to keep healthy in a natural way is always up my alley.

My positives:
It's the weekend.
A day planned with my girls.
The sun is shining.
My kefir grains are growing.
Blessed with a new day to be creative and grow in.
Blessed with wonderful support and guidance in my life.

Have a wonderful day....remember your actions and reactions are your own choice.

Hugs.
Wanda

Enjoy your time with your DD's. You'll have to give us updates as to how these kefir grains benefit your health, I know nothing about them or what they are suppose to do.

Hugs,
Shirl
