Ouch!

Sunday, March 25, 2012

What had the makings of being a really super day of getting in steps, ended up being a day that I didn't make my goal! I had the most bizzare thing occur to me. Garry and I did our Costco run and then decided to stop at HomeSense so that I could hopefully find and inexpensive glass bread pan. No glass pan, but I did get a pan that will work in the meantime. I also found some much needed new dishes that both of us really liked. They are microwave and dishwasher safe, something our old ones were not. As we were walking around the store, me pushing the cart, my left leg suddenly hurt to move it. It was like I had somehow pulled a groin muscle. It only hurt if I attempted to move my leg. Each step that I attempted to take got worse and worse. I tried sitting down for a few minutes to see if that would help, but no. We ended up cutting our shopping trip short and headed home. It took the rest of the day for what ever it was to work it's way out. There is only a slight twinge left over this morning, but I will try and take it easy on getting steps done today as I know that I will have stairs at work to climb tomorrow.
A very strange incident that I have no explanation for or have ever had happen before.

The young ones all gathered at our place last night. We had a great "family" night of visiting and laughing.

My positives:
I was blessed with finding some new dishes that are microwave and dishwasher safe as well as bright and cheerful. I love HomeSense for their great prices on things.
Family time last evening.
Although I didn't get my steps in yesterday and not sure about today, at least I know it was not as a result of "just" not doing them.
The snow is melting, the birds are chirping and the temperatures are slowly making their way back up to the plus side.
Being alive to enjoy and appreciate all that we have been blessed with.

Have a wonderful day,
hugs,
Wanda

Sorry about your leg, maybe something was pinched, glad it worked it's way out. Congrats on the new dishes. Glad you had fun and family time this weekend. The baby shower went very well, GD received many nice gifts for baby Cecilia. Take easy steps till you are sure things are ok with your leg. Have a good week.

Hugs,
Shirl

Our bodies can do the darndest things to us sometimes, with no obvious reason for it. I hope whatever it was doesn't recur.

Winter

Saturday, March 24, 2012

Winter has hopefully made it's last hurrah! We have a good 6 inches of the stuff on the ground now and supposed to warming up to plus 10 over the weekend. I don't think I will worry about getting the shovel out as Mother Nature will probably take care of it for me.

Nothing major on my agenda today other than doing laundry. I also want to do some research and see if I can't find a vinegar pot anywhere. I do need to head out to Homesense at some point this weekend and see if they have any glass bread pans. I like them for baking bread in much better than the metal ones.

I've got some books t hat I need to work my way through before they are due back at the library also. All in all....a nice weekend. *grin*

My positives:
Finally got to the grocery store yesterday...yay fruit in the house once again.
A nice visit with Q and his puppy at my work yesterday. My coworkers were wanting to see Sage, so Q brought her by for a visit. She was such a good girl. She even rode in the elevator which was a whole new experience for her.
My personal copy of the book "Cultured Food Life" arrived, so will see about putting into action some of the suggestions in the book.
No big plans for the weekend, all just little things.
Being blessed with so much.

Have a great and wonderful day.
Hugs,
Wanda

The glass baking pans are nice, I think the bread browns better in them, I have a couple that were my mom's and will not part with them, also a couple glass pie plates. I meet with Debbie a trainer at 10 this morning, she showed me more machines to work on some things I can do at home with dumbbells for my shoulders. Pearl, the other lady who lives here and also joined SNAPS wants to go exercise together, I am looking forward to that, we can encourage each other to keep at it. Margaret called and all this rain has gotten to her, so we aren't walking today, but that's ok I have plenty of other things I can do. That was nice Q brought Sage by your work so she could meet your co-workers. Enjoy your weekend.

Hugs,
Shirl

The weekend is almost here.

Friday, March 23, 2012

How is it that a week can go by fast and slow at the same time? Time doesn't seem to have a set pattern anymore or is it just me?

Well the snow started yesterday morning and didn't quit until after 7pm last night. I'm not sure if it is worth going out and shoveling or not, as the temperatures are supposed to rise this weekend to plus 10. Do I let Mother Nature do the job for me or do I get out there and do it myself.
Is this winter's last hurray or will we see more yet? Lots of questions, very few answers...it's too early in the morning *grin*

I squeaked in steps by bedtime last night. I had a good book that I needed to get finished before it was due back at the library. Spent my time sitting instead of moving. But I did get them in.

My positives:
It's Friday and a weekend lies before me.
This new batch of snow will be good for the earth. The people that determine these things, say that we will be facing a high fire alert this year due to the dryness. I'm thinking....why borrow trouble...we might get rain!
Blessed with another day of life.
I'm almost complete the second rough draft of my Hayes Job classification...meeting next week to see if I have a third one to do.

Have a great and wonderful day. Take the time to appreciate all that you have and all that you don't have.

Hugs,
Wanda

March 22 and all is well

Thursday, March 22, 2012

Yay, I got on the site this morning! Not being able to get on yesterday morning, sort of threw my day out of whack. Such a creature of habit I am *grin*.

I'm excited to say that my requested work reduction schedule has been approved. I need to use up some of my overtime and holiday time and can't seem to get a long stretch of time off to do that in. I came up with an alternate solution that I'm thrilled to say has been accepted. For the months of June, July and August, I will work a 4 day week and have a 3 day weekend. That will make a dent in all my overtime hours. YAY.

We are making good progress on our job descriptions using the new Hayes Classification system. It is a long process, but we want to get it right the first time and not be dealing with troubles down the road. Seeing as I am one of the first ones that need to have theirs done, the next couple of weeks will be spent working on that and having meetings. On the plus side...mine will be done.

My positives:
Having an employer that is willing to look at alternate ways of me using up my overtime, so that the impact at work is minimal.
My onions, tomato, and watermelon seedlings are starting to make an appearance in their little starter pots. I really need to get the rest of them started this weekend.
Although I had a difficult time getting to sleep last night, I don't feel too bad this morning considering that I only had just over 4 hours of sleep!
We didn't get the snow last night that we were told to expect. Not sure if it's just delayed or if it bypassed us.
It's a great day to be alive.

Have a fun day, look for your blessings.
Hugs,
Wanda

Yay, for getting your long weekends, that will be so nice during the summer months. Hope you get the rest of your seedling planted like you want to. We are heading towards 85 today, may get storms later, hope they hold off till me and my DD's are back from baby shopping in Lansing. Margaret and I will be taking our walk this morning before it gets to warm. Have a wonderful day and evening.

Kefir

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

What a wonderful and exciting new things I am learning about....Kefir! If you have never heard of it, don't worry, neither had I. I had a request from my adult selector to see if I could find any information books on Kefir and that's where it all started.

I did find a great book, which I was able to order called "Cultured Food Life". I put it on hold for myself and have now ordered my own copy and have signed up to get some milk kefir grains so that I can start my own kefir. It was a bit more difficult finding kefir grains in Canada, but you in the states should have no problem. I almost thought of having them delivered to a spark friend and then getting that friend to send them to me, but yay, I was able to get on a list for someone here in Canada to notify me when they have some available.
Now I am on the hunt for a vinegar pot so that I can make my own vinegar! I think that I am going to end up having one special made for myself. I'll check out the local ceramics places and see if anyone is able to make me one. I do have an address in the states that makes them, so we will see.
I am attempting to simplify our lives and learn more about being more self-sufficient...leaving a smaller footprint. See what happens Bre when you got me started on gardening????

My positives:
Lots of meetings right now involving the Hayes Classification for our jobs, but they are good and productive meetings.
I have been granted my special reduced work week for the months of June, July and August. I have so many overtime hours and holiday time that I am finding hard to even make a dent in. I asked for a reduced work week for the summer months to see if I could use up some of that time and it was granted today! YAY. Monday to Thursday only starting June 1st. 3 day weekends are sure looking awesome.

Blessed with good health and a wonderful family.

Hugs,
Wanda

WoAh - I'm back online and just saw KEFIR so went right to this posting (I've been looking for kefir grains as well ... found a bottle of it here and notice a little white blob at the bottom of the jar ... hmmm) I'm really looking forward to hearing if you are successful in getting some kefir grains here in Canada. Have you heard of kombucha. I started making it before I left for Paris and have a mother scobie waiting for me in my fridge back home for my return. I made it myself after purchasing a bottle of the natural kobmuch from a local health food store in Toronto. There are recipes for it on-line. It's made using the culture and cooled tea (and sugar which the culture uses as food) it can be flavoured later w things such as ginger and lemon, etc ... I love this bubbly drink.

I'll go back into my last blog post and add two photos (kefir I just found and the vinegar I'm making from overripe pineapple - I'm interested to hear about your foray into vinegar-making now too)! GO WANDA!
