It's been awhile...

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

It's been awhile since I tried my hand at baking bread. Far too many years have gone by. We don't eat a lot of bread and it just became quicker and simpler to buy the bread at the store. Now that bread prices have gone so crazy, it's time to get back into baking my own bread again. I have a tried and true recipe somewhere, but yesterday I tried a recipe from online...Amish White Bread. Not bad, a bit too sweet for my taste, as it calls for a lot of sugar. I will play with the recipe a bit though and see if I can't lose some of the sugar. The loaves turned out great, but the buns, could have used a bit more cooking time. Unfortunately, my oven does not cook evenly and the tops of the buns were cooking faster than the insides. Still edible, but they could be better.

Puppysitting yesterday helped me to realize just how out of practice I am with taking care of "toddlers" *grin*. She was a lot of fun, but boy did she keep me busy. I didn't get in all my steps as I wasn't able to take her for a walk (no leash). But I still did pretty good.

My positives:

My bread and buns turned out edible.
Some of my onion and tomato seedlings are beginning to make an appearance. I didn't even attempt to get the rest of them planted...puppy was too interested!
My crock pot soup turned out super...went well with the buns.
Blessed with so much.

Have a great and wonderful day,

Hugs,
Wanda

My "Me" day has turned out to be a "me Plus" day.

Monday, March 19, 2012

I was so looking forward to a total me day today, but I'm practicing that being flexible is what life is all about.

Our son and his puppy have moved back home over the weekend. He and his buddy parted ways when his buddy's girlfriend moved in. Quin is not overly impressed with the lady as she feels moving in with her boyfriend means that she doesn't pay any expenses and Quin should live in his room when he is home as she and Brad are a couple and the house is theirs. Of course, I don't know the whole story, only one side. Needless to say, our son is back home again for a couple of months before he heads back up north for the fishing season with his puppy.

How does this effect my day you might wonder...well, I'm now babysitting on my day off. Sage is just learning her new environment and as yet not completely house broken. (or rather, I don't completely trust her as yet, not to pee in the house. She is a good girl, but I also am attempting to balance the time and space for the cat and the dog! *grin* Not a hardship on my day off, just a different plan than I had!

My positives:

Being able to provide a home base for our son and his puppy.
Great Women's Wellness conference on Saturday.
Wonderful fun evening Saturday night with all the kids and Afton.
Time to try my hand at getting the rest of my seeds started and to make some bread.
Blessed with another day of life.

Have a great and wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

You'll have fun with the puppy.Too bad things didn't work out with his friend, but I am sure Quin doesn't mind being back home for a while, maybe mom can come up with some things for him to help out with. Are you building anymore garden spaces? Don't tell Quin I told you to put him to work, lol. Have fun with all your seedlings. Enjoy your evening.

Shirl

Oh dear. Third Wheel Syndrome. That is no fun. I hope Quin is feeling happier being home again. Still, sounds like you are going to have a fun time with that puppy for a while. What breed is it?
Keeping fingers crossed that your cat's nose isn't put out of joint. I remember when we introduced my boyfriend's dog to the cats I had. Dog, all full of bounce, scattered kitties far and wide, apart from my old bruiser, Olly. He stood his ground and slapped the dog hard right on his nose, drawing blood and causing the dog to squeal! The dog instantly understood his place from that point on and peace reigned. :-)

Olly chased the farm collie up the lane once, up on his hind legs, batting at him with his front paws all the way. You have never seen anything so funny in your life! *grin*

LOL, oh my it's not funny, but I can see you with the cat and dog. Maybe you will get lots of steps in. If you are having nice weather like us, take the puppy for a very LONG walk and tire him/her out, hee hee. Have a great day Wanda!

A Great Women's Conference yesterday

Sunday, March 18, 2012

The Women's Wellness Conference yesterday was great. I didn't get a chance to get online yesterday and connect with the team once I got home though. We ended up with all the kids here and Q's girlfriend. The girls came home with me from the conference, Q was already at the house and Afton arrived later. Lot's of visiting but little progress in my steps.

I didn't make my goal of steps yesterday, but still not a bad amount accomplished considering that I was at a conference all day. The girls and I did walk over to the where it was being held and home again, so got some steps in there, plus the ones walking from session to session.

Giselle Yanish provided another great session with her Humour for the Health of it. This is either the 3 or 4 workshop of hers I have taken and still just as enjoyable and recharging as the first one. It was the girls first time hearing her and they really enjoyed her presentation. She talks about the need to lighten up and find the humour in everything. She talked about how we need to not take ourselves so seriously and to learn to laugh at our selves at with others.

The second session that I took was on Pre-retirement planning for women. Very informative, but very rushed. The 75 minutes went by far too quickly. I did come away from it though with some good information and will be looking to establishing a relationship with a financial planner and setting some more defined goals. One piece of info that I picked up that I probably should have known, but didn't....our wills are not transferable from one province to another. Basically, we do not have wills that will stand up in a court of law if we have moved provinces. Need to rectify that quicily.

Third session was "Are you prepared for an emergency". Some interesting tidbits, but not really that informative. The presenters were a bit unprepared (they were late setting up and forgotten some of the handout materials). Over all though they did present some information, unfortunately, very little that I did not know or am not already doing.

The girls had attended a session called "tiny movements" which they found excellent. They shared some tips on how just making little tiny muscles movements can help you to achieve more flexibility. I will be getting them to show me more of them and am going to put into practice the one they showed me last night for TMJ.

All in all a great day, ending with a great evening of family gathered round.

Have a wonderful and relaxing Sunday.

Hugs,
Wanda

I'm excited...

Friday, March 16, 2012

I am excited for my girls. They got the call we have been waiting for yesterday. They go to the lawyers on March 26th to sign the papers which will make them co-owners of their own home! It has been a long process and at times crazy, but the good Lord knew their need and supplied. Thank you Lord. We no longer will have to be concerned about them renting. This was a situation that appeared impossible when it first began. God definitely had things in His control though.

Another plus....I get to leave work early today and I have Monday off work. YAY. I need to use up some of my overtime hours, so persuading my manager that having the time off was not difficult. I am so looking forward to catching up on some sleep, the women's conference tomorrow and a total day to myself on Monday.

I'm one of the first ones that need to have my rough draft of my new job description done using the Hayes method and I'm almost there. It is coming together better than I first thought and I'm hoping to end up with a final result that I will be happy to sign off on. Step 1 is pretty much done and now I can begin Step 2 of the process.

Quin and his puppy stopped over for supper last night. I was lovely to see him and Sage. The puppy is sure growing. Q has been working hard with her with training and she is doing very well.

I'm off to work in a few minutes so must get busy with other things. Have a great and wonderful day...it's Fabulous Friday after all.

Hugs,
Wanda

I am feeling sleep deprived this morning.

Thursday, March 15, 2012

I desperately need it to be the weekend! My whole body sleep schedule has been thrown out of sync this week with the time change. Adding to that some very long work days this week due to meetings and I'm finding myself extremely tired this morning. I very easily could have rolled back over and continued to sleep this morning. Despite having been in bed at 8:30pm each night this week, I am very tired. Oh well, part way through the morning, I will find my second wind and make it through another day of work. The late meetings are all done for this week and by Monday of next, I'm hoping that my inner clock will have adjusted to the time change.

Women's conference this Saturday to attend...but it doesn't start until 8am, so that gives me at least 3 extra hours of sleeping in! My girls are attending for the first time with me and I am really looking forward to them coming. Our first session we are attending is called : Humour for the Health of it, the next session for me: Pre-Retirement Planning for Women and then the last session of the day: Are you prepared for an Emergency. The girls are going to a Wine Appreciation and Knowledge sessions and I think they said " Color and Sound Therapy". We will meet up for lunch and other mini sessions through out the day. There are always so many great sessions to consider that it's hard to narrow it down to just 3 main ones. Our county puts the conference together once every 2 years and it has grown considerably in size since I first started attending. They are at maximum capacity now for the venue that they use, which is one of the high schools.

My positives:
It's almost the weekend.
Yesterday was payday...today I will pay all the mid month bills.
I am getting my steps in each day, even with being tired.
I have some great gardening books that came in at the library for me all ready to peruse this weekend.
I will have time this weekend to get my squash and celery seedlings started. With all this great weather we are having, I'm even contemplating getting my potatoes started in their pots in April! I thought I might stagger the planting so that I'm not harvesting them all at the same time.
I am blessed.

Have a great and wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

I am not having as much trouble adjusting to the time change as I usually do. Hopefully you get this week behind you and your body will make the adjustment. Margaret and I had a lovely walk this morning, it's up in the 70"s again, we might have thunderstorms later today. I have two bunches of daffodils blooming, they are so bright and pretty. You and your girls enjoy the women's conference this Sat.

Hugs,
Shirl
