It just doesn't seem that long ago that I was blogging about the snow and now we are into June!
I had a busy weekend, all three of our children are at home right now. Quin will be here until the end of the week, then he heads up north for his fishing life. Kaeli is still waiting to hear whether she will be spending her final semester of University in Greece! Shy is enjoying her new job at the library and Garry went golfing on the weekend and was so sore this morning that he had to roll out of bed as he said his muscles were too sore to push himself up! Of course I missed that delightful episode as I was already at work by the time he had to get up. But he did phone me to tell me so that I could have a good giggle at work!
My positives today...
Heard from a niece that I haven't spoken to for several years, she contacted me via Facebook. I'm very happy to be in contact with her again.
My husband gave me a visual to giggle about all day at work!
Kathy is working hard to regain her ground...love her positive attitude.
Marla is one of the most inspiring women I have the priviledge to know. Her strength and determination amaze me.
I don't have to cook tonight, there are lots of left overs and Quin is cooking fish on the BBQ for he and his Dad.
The sun has been shining all day, meant that I could get a nice walk in right after work today.
No fire alarms went of at work today! Big Bonus!
I will have walked off over 500 calories by the time I head for bed tonight....yippee!

Count your blessings,

Wanda - What a wonderful blog! Thank you for your kind words about me. I've never had such friendships as we have on here. I'm just so glad to be a part of it.

Nice that your kids were home. I'm sure you enjoyed the time spent with them. Time sure does go so fast... June already! Where on earth did it go?

I just wanted to stop by...I've been reading the blogs...just didn't have the energy to respond so I thought I would tonight. Take care. Hope your June is wonderful!

It's Saturday...Yippee!

Saturday, May 31, 2008

Started my day off with a hour long walk. It always amazes me how many other people I see out early in the morning doing the same thing. I love going walking early in the morning, before the traffic starts polluting the world with noise. The birds are waking up and letting the world know that they survived another night. It's sunny out but still on the cool side so walking fast is a necessity! A great time to commune and meditate as you walk along.
Got home and decided to log in to SP. Took me 20 minutes to get my food recorded and I gave up on entering my exercise. Waited until our cable company was open and then phoned to see if they could give me any directions on what was going on with the internet. It has been progressively getting worse for a couple of months now. Today was like being back on good old dial-up and we are supposed to be high speed! Had a very helpful tech who directed me to a website www.speedtest.net. This site helps you to determine how well your connections to the the internet are working. At first I think the tech guy thought it was most likely my computer and I just was a little dumb...but when I told him that my girls laptops were experiencing the same problems and that I had done everything possible to make sure my computer was not only free of spyware/ viruses but I had also done a defragmention on it with no good results, he decided that maybe it was the cable company's problem.
It took me almost 10 minutes to get the results from the website he had me on as it was so slow. Apparently download time should be in the 5000 range, my computer was at 4617 and upload should be 500 or better, mine was 261. He ran some tests then on his end and determined that my modem was dying and that I needed to go into the city and pick up a new one from the cable company. I am pleased to say...my computer is running so much better now.
I'm hoping that maybe all the problems that I have been having posting on SP will be resolved now too!

My positives today:

A beautiful day, sunny and warm.
A nice long walk this morning while the world was just starting to become mobile. Time to meditate as I walked.
It wasn't my computer, but rather the cable company's modem that was the problem.
I found my way into the address I had to go to in the city to get a new modem. My computer is working so much better now.
The house to myself this afternoon.
Great day period!

Challenge yourself to be the best you can be. Surprise someone with a random act of kindness.

'Til later,

We have some early walkers out here also. Your walk sounded so peaceful that alone time.

Computers are great when they do what they are supposed to but frustrating when they don't. Glad you have it fixed.

Your last comment caught my attention!! "having the house to myself" you lucky lady, you!! lol Today was a pretty good day here too. The weather is very hot, but not humid. Took a trip to WalMart.
You're walk sounds wonderful!! The peace and serenity must have been heaven. I'm glad you had a chance to do that. You sound very relaxed and happy. Know you're thrilled with the computer being fixed!! Nothing worse. Mine is only a year old and I'm having some issues too.
Continue having that wonderful, relaxed stress-free day, evening and night. Hugs.

This is too funny!

Guess what happened at work today???? Another fire alarm!
The alarm went off and we all looked at each other and said "not again!" Out the door we headed as our department is supposed to do. Luckily we got called back in very quickly....another false alarm! Only this time they finally were able to detect what was causing the alarm to go off. Apparently when the building had upgrades done to it's power structure, it has caused a glitch, which makes for power surges. The power surges caused our fire panel to become fried, so now everytime there is a power surge our panel assumes there is a fire and the alarms go off. Finally an answer to the past few weeks of chaos. A new panel has been ordered and hopefully the power surge problem will also be fixed.
Just another reason we are all looking so forward to our own new building. It is presently under construction but won't be available for us to move into until November 2010. Our square footage will be doubling in size to 60,000 sq feet. We are so excited about our new facility.
A good day today, it's Friday, what more needs to be said!
Lots of great positive blogs on the site today. Lots of great posts filled with encouragement, support, and inspiration.
Well it's been a long day, I've been up since 5 am and I still need to complete my exercising before crawling into my bed.
I bid you all a good night, pleasant dreams and renewed spirits.

Better false alarms than the real thing. Just don't let those people conform to the "boy who cried wolf" and begin to want to ignore. At least they have located the problem and it can be fixed.

You are right how much more positive can it be than just being Friday. Have a great week end.

Sounds like a lot of excitement going on at work! You're getting good exercise running in and out of your building! lol
I love how committed you are. It helps keep me going. You are amazing. I was thinking about you yesterday, and how you've managed to find that "thing" I'll call it, that lets you put the negative stuff in it's place and move to the postive! I really admire that. Thanks for all the advice and encouragement too. It really does help me a lot.
Have a great weekend.

I had my adrenalin rush today....

Thursday, May 29, 2008

Oh boy, did I ever have my adrenalin rush today. Smack dab in the middle of a co-worker's retirement luncheon the fire alarms went off as well as all the lights. The room was filled with guests as well as was the library being filled with patrons. Unfortunately the emergency lights failed to come on in the Meeting room and it was pitch black.
Made my way to the door and headed out to the information desk where all our evacuation vests and info is held. Good thing I went there instead of directly outside as our department usually does. Most of the staff was in the meeting room feeling around in the dark, so we had limited staff on the floor to grab vests and begin evacuation procedures. Kudos to all our new staff and summer students who didn't shy away from grabbing a vest and carrying out the instructions. Some of them have only been there a couple of weeks. They did a fantastic job. We had the entire library cleared in about 3 minutes. Two fire trucks responded and we were outside for about half and hour, before getting the all clear to return to the building. Apparently there was a major power failure through out most of city and as a result the bump in the power caused our fire detectors to go off. So luckily no actual fire, but sure was good training. Anytime we have a drill or in this case an actual evacuation, you are able to evaluate what occured and make adjustments accordinly.
My excitement for the day, one that I'm greatful was not a real fire. Being as I am the safety coordinator at work, tomorrow's work day will include meetings and discussions. My life is never boring that is for sure.

Positives in my day.

A confirmation that our staff including the newest members are prepared for a full scale evacuation.
No real fire.
A beautifl warm day outside, no having to stand in the freezing cold or rain.
A send-off that our co-worker Carol will always remember!
Got lots of walking in my day, burned extra calories.
Just plain and simple ....a great day!

Have a wonderful evening, count your blessins and be prepared!

Congratulations on job well done in preparing your workers for immediate evacuation. Great that it was not an actual fire or other emergency. Some things can really get your adrenalin going. Makes your heart jump right up into your throat.

It certainly will be something your co worker will always remember.

Good Morning....AGAIN!

Wednesday, May 28, 2008

Okay, I'll try this all over again, only this time I will remember to copy what I've written before hitting the post button!

I have today off work, so am heading out the door into the wonderful sunshine to do some walking. It's Walking Wednesday today...how about joining me in doing some walking. Walk out side if you can, walk in front of the TV, walk where ever you can, every step counts!
Marla and Kathy, hope you are ready, I'm taking you with me on a walk this morning. The day is too nice to be indoors. Marla, bring your swimsuit as I'm sure Kathy will let us have some fun time in her pool after our walk....won't you Kathy??? Then after our playing in the pool, Kathy, you and I will join Marla on her swing for some relax time! LOL. Maybe everyone else (Donna, Polly and who ever else wants) will join us too.

Garry and I went to IKEA last evening for the kitchen planning session (right day this time!). Gleaned some valuable information, so was well worth driving to the city and spending 3 hours there! Found out that they have a program that you can download from their website so you can plan your kitchen/bathroom layouts from home. WOO HOO, I'm going to have fun now!

Spent some time yesterday after work at the fitness centre learning how to use the equipment. Depending on how expensive the membership is (right now it's paid for the next couple of weeks through the Corporate Wellness program), I'm going to try and do at least one session a week there just to shake things up a bit from what I do now at home.

Must get out the door for some walking now, I'll check back later to see what ever one else has been up to.

Have a wonderful day, make someone day by doing a random act of kindness. Put a smile on someone's face by putting a smile on yours.

I'm glad you had some plans for your day off...I'm back on vacation this week but this time it is with electricians. They have a much friendlier schedule and I've been able to get to my gym each day so far.

IKEA, hm? I should check that out for our kitchen redo plans.

Have a great evening.

Peace. Meychey

Yeah a day off. Technology is wonderful being able to plan your own kitchen from home. Oh and it never even occurred to me how that sounded about saying my prayers. LOL I went back and read it I am rothflol. Thanks for humor. I was still in my nightgown but dressed. Still smiling to myself about that. It's great your company paid for a two week trial at a fitness centre for you. Have a great time planning your dream kitchen.

Well Wanda, you sound nice and chipper this morning!! Must be that day off. lol That walk sounds wonderful. It's very cloudy and dreary here, supposed to rain off and on all day. But I'm getting in some extra steps these days with my son's puppy that he just got and I baby-sit while he's at work!! Every half-hour taking her out and walking around for about 15-20 minutes, sure adds up!! And she's adorable and cute to boot!
That IKEA website sounds like a lot of fun!! Enjoy yourself.
Well, enjoy your walk and have a terrific day. Hugs.
