Fabulous Friday once again...

Friday, June 06, 2008

Wow, another Friday already! It's fabulous Friday in the Beehive dorm and I'm fabulous because I took my focus off of the number of minutes I was exercising and put it back on the number of calories I am burning. Hoping that I will see some good results on weigh-in day on Monday. Funny how such a little change can really screw things up.

Had a great day off work today. A great walk this morning, took my virtual walking partners along with me. Thanks for joining me Kathy and Marla.
Went to my appointment and had a very bad reaction to the treatment, now I look like my face has been in a heavy round fight, but oh well, it will get better. It actually looks very funny, but no, I am not going to take pictures. It was interesting though to observe people reactions when they caught sight of me. They quickly would avert their eyes, yet you knew they were curious to know what had happened. So despite my appearance today, I am glad that it has occurred as it has allowed me to gain some insight into how people react to someone who is in someway disfigured. I know that I have been one of those people who doesn't want to stare or appear to have noticed the "disfigurement". Now I believe that having been on the other side of the coin, so to speak, my reactions , I hope will be different. I will smile and acknowledge them and let them know that they are a person not a disfigurement.
Very interesting day.
Garry took the afternoon off today and we spent the afternoon in the city wandering around a couple of stores and then we went out for supper at Boston Pizza. Seeing as I knew that I would be well within my calorie range, I had a Chipotle Chicken and bacon salad. Very tasty, but yes high in calories as salads go...630 calories. Even so, I have come in below my calorie range today.
Poor Shyra, has a summer cold and feels very stuffy and sniffly. She was very glad that it was Friday today also. At least she has a couple of days to get better before work again on Monday.

Booked our hotel room for the reunion we are going to in August. I'm already getting excited about going. I'm excited to show off the "new" me.

Well other than going to relax for the evening now, I'm going to check out the blogs and wish you all a wonderful evening too.

What are you Fabulous about today???

Wanda - I also am enjoying our walks together. So nice of you to include us with you.

Sorry you had a reaction to your treatment. You just never know do you? Anyway, sometimes we face some challenges I think to see what it's like to walk a mile in another's shoes. I think people who stare at people with disfigurements, etc... are just curious & scared. Scared it might happen to them. Afraid to ask questions for fear they're being rude or impolite. It makes you empathize with others who go through what they do when you go through it yourself. I know it does me.

Your reunion is in August.... ours is in the heat of July! It's always so nice gathering with family on a happy occassion for a change.

Continue enjoying your weekend. Stay cool!

I enjoyed the walk today... I know we got a little close going round and round you in the golf cart... but Marla was having so much fun with her head hanging out the window... Oh wait there isn't any windows... LOL I will have to take a picture of this cart... It's an Andy creation...lol He's painted green elephant ears all over it... It looks pretty good... lol

Sorry to hear about your treatment causing you problems... I hope it clears up fast... I have such sensitive skin that I have to be careful what I use... I get sun poisoning too really bad... But I'm so used to it now... I will not stay out of the pool for that... lol

How nice that you spent the afternoon with Garry in town... Andy and I don't do well together shopping ... I learned a long time ago that it's better if I just go by myself. Or he will go by himself too...
You dinner sounded good too... We haven't been out in a while... I think I'll take Andy out for dinner for fathers day...

Well I think I'm caught up now on the blogs... so I think I'll go relax and finish watching Castaway with Tom Hanks... I just love him.

Good Night my friend...

Another day in my life...

Thursday, June 05, 2008

One has headed out the door now for the summer. Quin left today for up north and his fishing work. He was so excited to be going again. A true outdoors man that one! There is still 3 feet of ice on the lake, but they are headed in to camp anyway. Winter clothes and all!
Great day at work today, very busy, but accomplished lots. I love it when it's busy, not only does the day go faster, you feel like you are making headway.
Had to go in early and set up the committee room for an early meeting and then we spent some time trying to find out which breakers worked which emergency lights. We had noticed at our last fire evacuation that some of the lights had failed to come on when the power went off. Today we got most of them working again. Only 3 that wouldn't come on, so we assume that the batteries need to be changed in them. One more thing checked off my "to do" list.
Very "breezy" outside today...sun was shining, but boy was that wind every blowing. Call me crazy, but I love to stand outside, when the wind is blowing like that. It really gives you a new perspective on the power of Mother nature. (of course, I most likely wouldn't like it if it was a damage causing wind!)
I have tomorrow off from work. A couple of appointments to attend to, and hope to get my hair cut tomorrow...its to the stage of "beyond" help, so time to get something done with it.
Marla, I plan on going for a good walk, so first thing in the morning, plunk yourself down on your porch swing, close your eyes and enjoy the walk for the next 30 minutes. As I leave my front door, we walk down the driveway, down to the corner of the street, passing the junior highschool and on down past the athletic park. We'll be walking on sidewalk so you don't have to worry about gravel or anything. We'll crossover about 4 streets (they are far apart) until we spot the 7/11 on the left hand corner, we turn right and continue walking past a housing development. Cross over a couple of more streets and turn right again, making our way past the Senior highschool, which by this time might have some students beginning to arrive. We'll follow the sidewalk along the opposite side of the Athletic park and make our way back to our street, once again passing the junior high, with students arriving, pass the mailboxes and then up the drive way and we can sit and have a cup of tea. Hope you enjoy the walk! Kathy, if you want to join us that would be great.
Not much happening here tonight, Garry is still at work and the girls are doing their own thing.

My positives today.

A beautiful breezy day, just right for blowing any cobwebs away.
Quin has a great day for traveling and just knowing that he is happy to be heading up north.
Reading the blogs today, everyone is lifting Marla up in prayer and sending her hugs,
My SP teammates.
Getting our emergency lights at work figured out.
A busy day at work.
Getting and email from a good friend, filled with pictures of her new granddaughter...what a sweetheart...8lbs 11 oz!
My family.

Have a wonderful evening,

Boys are a different breed than girls. LOL I know Robby loves hunting and fishing although our weather is not near as cold as yours. We all call him a redneck though. He bought a camoflauge couch.....chair ..........and loveseat. He even has a camoflauge shower curtain. LOL Go figure.

Sounds like a great day. How thoughtful of you to take Marla with you on your walk. Enjoy!

Thanks for the invite on the walk... hey how about I bring Andy's golf cart around and pick up Marla and bring her along with me... Then she can stick her head our the window like a puppy hee hee OK we'll take turns on that... woof woof ... at any rate we can keep you company and it won't hurt us... lol

How exciting it must be for Quin to be headed north to his fishing work. What a life that must be... I can't wait for the fish stories to roll in again this year... lol

Glad you got the Evac lights figured out... I bet you are really good at your job...

Oh and BTW... Marla's acting like some kind of Angel or something when asked about a certain snowball... LOL
But she never once gave you up... hee hee But hey... who else would have snowballs this late in the year but YOU! LOL

Enjoy your day off my friend...

BTW - I missed posting on your blog yesterday and almost today too... SP keeps forgetting to notify me of a lot of the blogs I subscribe to... OK Gonna go see what you were up to yesterday...

Wanda - I'll be visualizing that walk while I'm at dialysis tomorrow morning. Thank you for inviting me. Sounds like it's going to be a great time! I too love the feel of the wind on my face. That was my thing... walking, especially in the cool air. Now I'll have to be content with sitting on my porch to feel it.... either that or hanging my head out the window like a puppy!!! LOL

Have a great day tomorrow. Enjoy your time off. You deserve it. Thanks for the prayers... always.

Seems like...

Wednesday, June 04, 2008

Seems like I am only getting a chance to blog every other day lately! Not sure why, but my day seems to run out before I've realized that I haven't done a blog. Sorry, I'll try to do better.

Great day today, nice warm sunshine weather, perfect for walking.
I had a long meeting this morning with an RCMP officer discussing our safety procedures and getting his recommendations on what we might need to implement. Came away from the meeting with some very useful information.
Had an unexpected visit from someone from our past. I haven't seen Art for almost 32 years and he dropped in to see Garry at his work and then came over to see me at my work. What a nice unexpected pleasure. He is a retired RCMP officer and the funny part is, Art was the rooky officer that had the "priviledge" of giving me my driver's test when I turned 16. We lived in a small isolated community up north and only had 16 miles of road. Art's comment to me at the end of my driver's test was " aw heck, you might as well have a license, you can only get better!" Gee, thanks sir! I'm proud to say he has been right.
I started my day off at work with very little work and was wondering whether I would ask for the rest of the week off rather than sitting there bored....should have left well enough alone...now I'm smoking busy. A huge batch of orders came down while I was in my meeting, so I will be working tomorrow anyway! I had already booked Friday off as I has some appointments to attend. At least I know that I have lots to do next week. (I hate not being busy!)
Well it's walking Wednesday and I need to get some more walking in. (Marla, I'm doing double time for the both of us...I know you'd like to really be doing it yourself, but close your eyes and visualize our walk, maybe it will confuse your body as your mind visualizes you walking and it will think you are and burn those calories!)

You may seem to be doing blogs every other day, but I can't believe I've missed this many of your blogs... Geez! I don't know why... Except that SP isn't notifying me... Well I subscribed again to yours and a lot of the other ones too... Hopefully they will remind me ... unless they forget again... hee hee

It just doesn't seem that long ago that I was blogging about the snow and now we are into June!
I had a busy weekend, all three of our children are at home right now. Quin will be here until the end of the week, then he heads up north for his fishing life. Kaeli is still waiting to hear whether she will be spending her final semester of University in Greece! Shy is enjoying her new job at the library and Garry went golfing on the weekend and was so sore this morning that he had to roll out of bed as he said his muscles were too sore to push himself up! Of course I missed that delightful episode as I was already at work by the time he had to get up. But he did phone me to tell me so that I could have a good giggle at work!
My positives today...
Heard from a niece that I haven't spoken to for several years, she contacted me via Facebook. I'm very happy to be in contact with her again.
My husband gave me a visual to giggle about all day at work!
Kathy is working hard to regain her ground...love her positive attitude.
Marla is one of the most inspiring women I have the priviledge to know. Her strength and determination amaze me.
I don't have to cook tonight, there are lots of left overs and Quin is cooking fish on the BBQ for he and his Dad.
The sun has been shining all day, meant that I could get a nice walk in right after work today.
No fire alarms went of at work today! Big Bonus!
I will have walked off over 500 calories by the time I head for bed tonight....yippee!

Count your blessings,

Wanda - What a wonderful blog! Thank you for your kind words about me. I've never had such friendships as we have on here. I'm just so glad to be a part of it.

Nice that your kids were home. I'm sure you enjoyed the time spent with them. Time sure does go so fast... June already! Where on earth did it go?

It's Saturday...Yippee!

Saturday, May 31, 2008

Started my day off with a hour long walk. It always amazes me how many other people I see out early in the morning doing the same thing. I love going walking early in the morning, before the traffic starts polluting the world with noise. The birds are waking up and letting the world know that they survived another night. It's sunny out but still on the cool side so walking fast is a necessity! A great time to commune and meditate as you walk along.
Got home and decided to log in to SP. Took me 20 minutes to get my food recorded and I gave up on entering my exercise. Waited until our cable company was open and then phoned to see if they could give me any directions on what was going on with the internet. It has been progressively getting worse for a couple of months now. Today was like being back on good old dial-up and we are supposed to be high speed! Had a very helpful tech who directed me to a website www.speedtest.net. This site helps you to determine how well your connections to the the internet are working. At first I think the tech guy thought it was most likely my computer and I just was a little dumb...but when I told him that my girls laptops were experiencing the same problems and that I had done everything possible to make sure my computer was not only free of spyware/ viruses but I had also done a defragmention on it with no good results, he decided that maybe it was the cable company's problem.
It took me almost 10 minutes to get the results from the website he had me on as it was so slow. Apparently download time should be in the 5000 range, my computer was at 4617 and upload should be 500 or better, mine was 261. He ran some tests then on his end and determined that my modem was dying and that I needed to go into the city and pick up a new one from the cable company. I am pleased to say...my computer is running so much better now.
I'm hoping that maybe all the problems that I have been having posting on SP will be resolved now too!

My positives today:

A beautiful day, sunny and warm.
A nice long walk this morning while the world was just starting to become mobile. Time to meditate as I walked.
It wasn't my computer, but rather the cable company's modem that was the problem.
I found my way into the address I had to go to in the city to get a new modem. My computer is working so much better now.
The house to myself this afternoon.
Great day period!

Challenge yourself to be the best you can be. Surprise someone with a random act of kindness.

'Til later,

You're walk sounds wonderful!! The peace and serenity must have been heaven. I'm glad you had a chance to do that. You sound very relaxed and happy. Know you're thrilled with the computer being fixed!! Nothing worse. Mine is only a year old and I'm having some issues too.
