Good Day ...

Thursday, January 05, 2012

A good first day back at work. Lots of work to do, my in basket might see the light of day by next week! I have a large priority order that needs to be placed as our Bookmobile has a special program happening in March. This means that titles have to be ordered, received and processed by the time the program starts. There are about 400 titles in all to order, but total number of items will be about 2400 to be received and processed, as they will be visiting several rural schools and need multiple copies of each title.

Manually counting my steps was a bit more challenging at work than at home, only because it seemed that right in the middle of a count, someone would greet you or stop to talk to you. I found shifting gears so rapidly a big challenge. I finally resorted to carrying a pen and paper with me! I did better on my steps than I thought I would. There are more steps in my day than I realized, considering that I have a desk job! I still managed to do 8025 steps that I actually counted. I'm thinking that today, I will do a count of exact steps to and from common locations, record them, and then just record that amount each time I have to go there, rather than counting each time. It might vary one way or another by a few steps each time depending on circumstances, but it should be pretty accurate. I am encouraged to see that I actually do more steps in my day at work than I originally thought.

My positives:
I'm feeling very positive about my virtual walk. Even if something should occur where I don't get the usual number of steps in on a particular day, I feel like I have been making progress.
Another week of beautiful weather has been forecasted. 30 temperature records were broken yesterday across our province. We registered plus 11.9 here! I'm so loving this winter. Sorry Eastern Canada....I know you have been in the deep freeze!
I stayed on track with my nutrition, water drinking and exercise yesterday despite all the array of goodies still being offered at work! I love that I sit on the opposite side of the room to where they are always on display. Sort of out of sight, out of mind.
Blessed with another day of living...determined to make it the best day yet!

Have a wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

are you actually counting your steps - I feel so lazy now as my UP bracelet is doing everything for me ... I am surprised that I've recently not been getting enough sleep and know I was - so something is upping my stress (mini crises after mini crises but I'm almost on the other side of them now) ... I've discovered how much travel throws me off my game too. The tracking certainly does make us more aware. Congrats on the healthy amount of walking you are doing! emoticon

Sounds like you have had a good day! Before I got my pedometer, I used to count my steps like that too. It works pretty good!

I'm wearing my watch pedometer today and trying to gague exactly how many steps I do at work too. I know that I am pretty well in the right area, but I'm curious, hee hee. Wish I had a job as busy as yours. The days would definitely go by more quickly and I wouldn't be so tired when I get home :( Have a great day!

It's back to work time.

Wednesday, January 04, 2012

Holiday time is over and it's back to work once again. I am going into my first day back at work with a positive attitude and a Determination to have a successful day.

Yesterday I surprised even myself with the total number of steps that accumulated during the day...9354! I did an hour and a half of free step, which really boosted my count. It will be interesting to see how many steps I get in now that I am headed back to work and can't just go for a walk when I choose! My Wii exercises will have to wait until I get home from work each day.

My Positives:
I have got a good start on my virtual walk.
I'm mentally ready to head back to work.
I'm on track with my nutrition and water intake.
I got my New Year's letter completed yesterday, some of them sent and others printed off and ready to send.
I am looking forward to a new routine involving walking everyday, as well .
as working.
Blessed with another new day to be creative in...can't beat that!

Have a great day, be the success you desire to be. Remember...you are in charge!

Hugs,
Wanda

WOW, that is amazing. I can't do that many steps per day right now for sure. I hope that 1.5 hour wasn't all at once, hee hee. You will definitely get to your destination quickly at this rate :) Have a great day back to work and pay day!

Day 3

Tuesday, January 03, 2012

Yesterday was more of a struggle to get my steps in. I've discovered muscles that haven't been used consistently for some time! They chose to offer up a bit of complaint, but that's a good thing...at least I'm using them once again. I'll just continue to push through and eventually they will understand that I am DETERMINED.

I'm attempting to get up earlier in the morning as I prepare for going back to work. I've gotten a bit used to not waking up at 4:30 am, now I need to get back into that habit. By getting up earlier, I am hoping that I will be able to fall asleep earlier also when I head for bed.

I got almost all the Christmas decorations carried downstairs to storage yesterday. Now I need to go down there and organize them all and store them properly. Garry will need to haul the tree down sometime this week and then my house is decluttered once again.

My positives:
I'm pleased with my progress on my virtual walk. I am hoping that I can keep up the steps once I am back at work. Because my job is a desk job, I am going to have to make sure that I get up every hour and get some steps in.
A nice drop in visit from Shyra and her boyfriend last evening. They stopped in for a short visit and ended up sharing supper with us.
My water intake is becoming more consistent. I am working on cutting out the amount of tea and getting back into drinking good ole water.
I have time to get my house all organized once again before heading back to work.
I have been given another day to work on creating the person I know I can be.

Have a wonderful day, keep on reminding yourself of how great you really are!
Hugs,
Wanda

I, too, have to work on getting up earlier to get one of my 15 min. exercise sessions done before I leave for work. Planning to CONCIOUSLY return to doing my mini-strength training in the ladies' room when I make my visits throughout the day.

Hugs, love and blessings.

Ohhh, I totally agree with the muscles Wanda. I was so sore yesterday it took me everything to walk as I did when I went shopping. I certainly didn't do any extra though and thought that I should give them a rest. I didn't sleep well because of it. I will stop jogging for now and just a walking program until my legs get back use to it :) Have a great day!

Entering Day 2 of Virtual Walk

Monday, January 02, 2012

I'm pleased to say that I am off to a good start for my Virtual walk. I'm also excited to find that Wyndy and Bre have said they would like to join Estelle and I. It is exciting to have the support and encouragement of our cheerleaders also.

Day 1 was a good day. 8818 steps. It will be interesting to see how this change as I head back to work on Thursday. Will it increase ??? or will I need to really top things up when I get home from work.

I need to make sure that I have my water with me, as it is too easy to forget to keep drinking it. I have my container all filled and as I empty it, I go and refill it.

My positives:
I am choosing to let the Wii keep track of my weight elimination. I will weigh in on it once a week. This way I know that it is consistent. I can ignore the mocking scale in the bathroom!
I got the decorations all off the tree yesterday. Today, I will haul the boxes all downstairs and begin organizing them on the shelving in the storage room.
Time to get settled into an exercise routine before heading back to work. I will have a better idea of how many steps I will be able to easily accomplish in an average day.
Thrilled that we are day two into January and still no snow! I really could get used to this! It is supposed to be plus 6 today...a very unheard of January temperature.
I am blessed in more ways than I really an account for. I choose to be positives and I am choosing and Determined to be healthy.

Have a wonderful day.
Hugs,
Wanda

Definitely a good start. I got my usual 2.5 miles in and hopefully I'll be able to up that a bit. Right now, my legs are killing me and I'm not sure if it's too much exercise or just something else. I'll push through it and not do any heavy duty walking today.

It will be interesting to follow you and all your steps. I am pursuing exercise by having joined two challenges the jump start and the 10 min. daily, they will help me develop the exercise habit. Have a great Monday.

Happy New Year 2012

Sunday, January 01, 2012

It has arrived! 2012 is officially here.

Kaeli came over last evening and we had a couple of mean games of cards, with Garry being the winner in both games. Lots of laughs and fun. Then it was time to hit the race track with Mario Kart on the Wii. As usual, Wanda brought up the rear! *grin*

We finally headed to bed about 12:30 after managing to stay awake long enough to see the new year makes it's appearance.

Today I start my virtual walking trip. Fellow team mate and I are meeting half way. For some reason our half way point when I google things is Cass Lake, Minnesota. Not sure why we have to go through the states to reach each other, when we both live in Canada, but there it is. It will take us almost a full year to get there, hope they serve green tea in Cass Lake!

My Positives:
I love my word of the year DETERMINED.
I have been blessed with the opportunity to see 2012 materialize and am excited to see what the year holds for me.
Family, friends and love and health in my life.
Looking forward to all the possibilities that lie ahead.

Have a wonderful day and welcome to the new year.
Hugs,
Wanda

Wanda you and Estell enjoy your virtual walk, if I get a pedometer, guess that's the right word maybe I can pick a place to walk to. I can be you and Estelle's cheer leader. The temp has been steadily dropping throughout the day and it's very windy, since I've been home from church have no desire to go out, brrrr! We had a lot of people missing from church this morning, most are sick or just had surgery, like our pastor and one of our older ladies, some of our residents aren't feeling very well either. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Hugs,
Shirl

Wanda - the joys of online learning are endless - love the idea of you doing the virtual walk - will be keeping my ear to the blog for your updates on it. I was able to get an UP by Jawbone bracelet while I was in Florida (I don't think they are available yet in Canada - I paid about &70 on sale) and I'm now logging steps much more easily than when I was doing it with the little one I clipped to the waist of my pants (that kept randomly announcing quite loudly to everyone how many steps I'd walked - awkward).
It is tracking my sleep as well and wakes me by vibrating on my wrist during a half hour window of time when I'm in a light sleep cycle). There is a feature I haven't figured out yet that has to do with food tracking as well.

Happy New Years 2012.

Great word - Determination. It is another one that won't get old over time.

Mitch....our virtual walking trip is something that a team mate and I are working on this year. We chose a spot half way between us, calculated the distance and then using the equation that 2000 steps = 1 mile, 10,000 steps approximately 5 miles and counting our steps daily, we will close the gap between us. It is going to take us 351 days to cover the distance! That could vary depending on how many steps we actually do each day. We are working on a minimum of 6000.
