Minus two, but no snow yet YAY!

Wednesday, November 02, 2011

It's a balmy minus two this morning and not expected to warm up to much during the daytime. Time to haul the winter jackets out as well as the mittens and hats.

Time to also stock up on oatmeal and creme of wheat for nice hot breakfasts too. I like both of them because I don't need to have milk with them to make them edible.

Two of my online ordered Christmas gifts arrived yesterday and I was able to squirrel them away without anyone seeing. Hopefully the other two will arrive this week also.

My positives:
Friends and family.
It's hump day and the work week is a short one with having Professional Development day on Friday.
Hearing from Nancy Jane yesterday was a highlight of my day.
Also hearing from Mauri and knowing that she is safe and sound.
Plans for our staff Christmas party are well underway and so far the response from staff members has been great.
Living with a grateful heart.

Have a wonderful and blessed day today.

Hugs,
Wanda

We had another nice day, got up to 60, but we have rain moving in, but it looks like another warm up for Fri. & Sat. which will be good for our holiday church bazaar. I fought with my carpet cleaner most of the afternoon and I hate to say it but it won and is not working, will try and find a repair shop tomorrow. It sounds like you had a pretty nice day. Friday is almost here.

Hugs,
Shirl

Happy day after Halloween!

Tuesday, November 01, 2011

I wish I could say that now that Halloween is done so is the all the candy! Unfortunately around my place of work, everyone seems to bring in their left over candy on a regular basis and then we have all the Christmas treats that start coming. Tis the season of "saying no" to all those treats!

We didn't have more than about 30 kids at our door last night, which is great on one hand, but not so good on the other. It fluctuates so much from one year to the next that it is hard to judge how many treats you need to have on hand. This year though, the treats were a hit with all ages of kids as well as the parents. We gave out great little pots of play dough! Costco very early in the fall had them on sale specifically to give out at Halloween. Best idea ever! The comments were all very positive at the door, even from the big kids.

I have several little pots left over, which will make great little gifts at Christmas time .

My positives:

We heard from Lee yesterday and he is safe and sound.
Halloween is over for another year and I feel good about not contributing to the candy epidemic!
No snow yet, but it is forecast for this week.
I was able to choose healthier foods at our staff potluck yesterday. Although most of the food seemed to be very high calorie items, there were a few veggies and I walked away from any treats. YAY me.
A new day and a new month begins.

Have a wonderful day, concentrate on all the things that you are doing right!

Hugs,
Wanda

I am glad Halloween is gone for another year, have a small amount of candy left but that's going over to oldest daughter's soon. I was so busy with cleaning today I didn't have time to think about food accept at meal times, now the front room smells so nice and fresh and more to do tomorrow. That was a great idea on the play dough, they get so much candy and some leftover to give at Christmas. I have baking to do later this week as our church bazaar is Fri. and Sat. and there are bake sales both days. I know I am making 4 doz. Russian Tea Cookies and one batch of fudge which makes a lot, other than that not sure. I see Nancy Jane was able to visit you too, I am so glad we have heard from her, hope her computer problem gets taken care of, really miss her. It was a beautiful fall day here, up in the high 50's and tomorrow we might see the 60's, woo hoo, I'll take it. Enjoy your evening.

Hugs,
Shirl

Happy November Wanda. It is a computer thing here. It just takes too much effort to do anything on it. I expect a good crashing any day now. So rather than bother with it, I have walked away. I just deleted over 200 unread emails! Things are going fine here. I have busied myself with fabric creating and running around doing the senior boy's bidding. I think of you daily and hope to let you know more often this month. Thanks for keeping me in mind.
Love you.
Nancy

What a great idea and I think more people should do that instead of lots of candies. Have a great day Wanda.

Happy Halloween!

Monday, October 31, 2011

Tonight all the little ghosts and goblins come knocking on the door. I love seeing the little ones all dressed up. Even the cat enjoys the event. She sits at the door watching everything that is happening. Quite funny to see her response. It's the one time of the year that she watches so closely.

We ended up with a very nice day outdoors yesterday. Above average temperature, sun and a great day for working outside. On the down side...we are heading into minus temperatures this week! No more above zero for us! (even during the daytime)

One of local based soldiers was killed in Kabul on Saturday. This is the same Battalion that my cousin is with. The only thing we know for sure is that Lee was not one of the fatalities, but we hadn't receive any word on whether he was injured or not. I will check Facebook when done here to see if there is an update. Thank the Good Lord for internet. Thank you also for all your prayers. This is Lee's 4th tour of duty and we hope his last, with him coming home safe and sound.

Watched on the news last the storm that hit eastern states areas. Wow, that's an unusual amount of wet snow so early in the year. Makes me glad that I finally have a cold storage room to keep a stockpile of things in. The only thing that I still need to make sure that we have is some bottled water for emergencies. We have been blessed with a small generator when Garry's dad passed away. His Dad had it vented and hooked up to their furnace in case of a power outage and Garry is hoping to get the same thing set up here.
Trusting that our Polly and all others are coping ok.

My positives:

No snow as yet.
Blessed with one more beautiful sunny day yesterday.
A good nights sleep last night, I'm ready to face the day.
The internet.
Having the Lord to lean upon and trust that He has a bigger plan for all things.
Being blessed in so many ways.

Have a great and wonderful Monday. I'm off to check and see if there is any word yet on Lee.

Hugs,
Wanda

Hope you get positive news on Lee. I am looking forward to seeing all the different costumes tonight. I hope the situation out east gets better quickly. I am thinking of making me some healthy treats like ants on a log and apple wedges with peanut butter for this evening after the trick or treaters have all been and gone. Have a Happy Halloween.

Hugs,
Shirl

It was Pizza night at our place .

Sunday, October 30, 2011

It was Pizza night at our place last night. We had such a great time. Kaeli,Quin and Afton, Shyra and Kyle, and Ty and Sarah came over for a night of fun and laughter. Kyle and Shy and Ty and Sarah came in costume as they headed out about 9pm to a friends place for a Halloween party. Kyle and Shy went as Mario and Luigi (Mario Bros) and Ty and Sarah as Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Afton had brought her costume that she had worn the night before to a family Halloween party. So creative, she went as a cupcake.

Today, we are going to attempt to finish a couple more things on the to do list and then this evening we have been invited to go to the movies with Quin and Afton (and the girls if they are up to it). It's been years since we have been to the movies. I think the name of the show is Johnny English, but it might be Mr. Bean. Tells you how much I know *grin* We are going to the early show as both Q and I have to be up very early for work Monday morning.

My positives:
I love how our place is a gathering place for the kids and their friends.
The house is becoming more organized each day as things on the to do list are accomplished.
No snow this morning, but the skies look like they might be carrying some of the white stuff in them!
A great evening last night with the kids and their friends.
A movie night tonight, the first time in many years!
A nice warm home to spend time in. A warm bed to sleep in.
Christmas oranges are available already...my favorite oranges! YAY.
I even noticed eggnog is on the store shelves. I try to steer clear of it until Christmas morning. That is my treat at Christmas time.
Found some great inexpensive gift ideas on Pinterest to make. Yay.
So blessed.

Have a wonderful Sunday, giving thanks for all things releases your spirit to enjoy each day.

Hugs,
Wanda

Sounds like you had a lovely weekend with all the kids and their friends, how neat. We had pizza last night also, we like ours with everything on it, but Mr. A.J. is a very plain eater so I got one with just sausage and pepperoni on it, he liked that and we watched movies, the animated Sleepy Hallow, with Bing Crosby's voice and Witches. We always love having A.J. over. By Christmas oranges, do you mean Clementines, we love them, they are so sweet and juicy. Hope you have a good work week.

Hugs,
Shirl

Late start to my day today.

Saturday, October 29, 2011

I woke up at my usual weekday time and realized, yay I don't have to get up yet. Then I realized that I had been sleeping at a strange angle, which had created a bit of a headache. I decided to turn over and see if I could get back to sleep and sleep it off. A couple of hours later and I'm feeling much better. Still a residual bit of the headache, but I'm thinking now that I am up, it will disappear.

We had some rain during the night and actually surprised that there wasn't some snow on the ground this morning. The temps had dropped during the night judging by the number of times the furnace kicked in. No snow though...YAY.

We didn't go into the city after my work yesterday as Garry was making great head way with all the baseboards and didn't want to quit. Not sure if that is on the agenda for today. I have the usual household chores that need to get done, and I want to make a start on some of my projects. But "Flexibility" is my word for today, so I will just go with the flow.

My Positives:
Seeing the list of "to do's" gradually getting smaller. It's great to see some of the big projects finally getting completed entirely.

I'm on the Christmas Party committee at work and we had our first meeting yesterday. Looks like we have a great group this year and lots of enthusiasm. We decided on a theme very quickly...Ugliest Sweater ...it should be a lot of fun. Something that everyone can have a few laughs about. Each department will also be responsible for providing snacks according to which ever color their manager draws from a hat on Tuesday. They will also be responsible for setting up and cleaning up their own table of snacks. I think it's a great way of everyone sharing the work rather than just a couple of people having to do it all.

A short work week this coming week as Friday we are closed and having a Professional Development day for staff. Still have to be there as it's mandatory, but it's something different.

It's a great day to be alive and I'm grateful to have been provided with the opportunity to enjoy the day.

Have a great and fun day,

Hugs,
Wanda

I love the Ugliest Sweater theme! LOL. I may have to nab that for my fiftieth birthday bash, if I have one. At the moment I'm hankering for a getaway to the Highlands of Scotland for my fiftieth, just me, the girls and my lovely S-I-L.

I think you sent me your headache! With three dogs and a cat begging for my attention going back to sleep was a no do. I did get to sleep a bit later than usual so hopefully at midnight tonight I won't be as tired as some times. Sounds like you're going to have a wonderful Christmas party.
