There's frost in the air this morning...brrrrr!

Thursday, September 29, 2011

Frost is heavy in the air this morning. I need to start the vehicle and get the windshield cleared before leaving for work this morning!

I have put one big bag of tomatoes into the freezer yesterday and it looks like another one will be ready to go in today. This weekend, I will take them out and process them into sauce. Yay, they are almost all done. Only one big container of green tomatoes left!

My telephone (land line) is still not working. They attempted to fix over the phone (using my cell for communication), but that didn't work, so now they have to send some out. I will have leave work early today as the only time they could schedule someone to come this week was today between 1 and 3. I'm thinking that they must have had some major problems as my cousin in BC mentioned on Facebook that they were having problems with Shaw also. Technology...can't live with it, but we can't live without it either *grin*

My positives:

I have been able to drive myself to work this week. Garry has had a vehicle from work to drive. Next week he will have to go back to driving me to work though. But then it's a short week for me as I have next Friday off. Woo Hoo!
My phone will hopefully be fixed today. With the scheduled appointment for the repair person, I get to come home early from work. Not necessarily a bad thing *grin*
My tomatoes are ripening quickly now. Yay...tomato sauce making this weekend.
Blessed with life, friends, family and great things.

Have a wonderful day...be a positive person...cause a ripple effect of positiveness.

Hugs,
Wanda

Happy Hump Day!

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

Yay, payday today, last one of the month. I love starting out a new month with all the bills paid.

I'm going to try a tip from Bre today. Putting all the ripe tomatoes into the freezer. Then on the weekend, I will finish off the canning. I loved that she let me know that the skins come off really easy when they have been frozen. Saves me a step in the processing.

Lost our land line phone service yesterday afternoon. Garry phoned once and it was working, then the next time he phoned, it rang twice on my end, when I answered it, you could hear that it was connected but no communication. Garry said on his end it never rang and then when he tried again it just went directly to voice mail. I'm thinking that the phone company must have had some problems. When I tried to call them on the cell phone, there was a minimum 2 hours wait time to be connected to help. Tried the phone again this morning, still no service. Garry will have to see if he can call them from work today.
We have been debating getting rid of the land line now that we both have cell phone numbers. Pros and cons to that, still undecided.

My positives:
It's Hump day and payday!
After today, I should be down to about 1 and a half containers of ripening tomatoes on my counters. The ripe ones are going into the freezer when I get home from work.
Very cool temperatures in the mornings, but still sunshine during the daytime. (only plus 2 this morning)
Great night`s sleep last night. Two nights in a row now! Woo Hoo.
I'm excited about getting all my canning completed this weekend. My counters will be tidy once again. I hate clutter on the kitchen counters and right now they are cluttered.
New goals for the month of October are being worked on.
My family, friends and guidance.

Have a wonderful and successful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

I am looking forward to hearing how your frozen tomato adventures go - to me the seeds are part of the tomato and I like the taste of them. I had someone on Twitter help me after i tweeted that I had to wait 40 minutes for my pressure canner to cool - they told me I could probably take the lid off after about 20 minutes so I saved myself some time and was able to go to bed! Social media is really something isn't it.

I have a cell phone and a landline but was able to get a plan with 10 people who can call me from all over Canada at anytime (for others I have 200 minutes) and weekends and after 6pm to 6am it's free - through Rogers so it seems doable if you don't need to call the States. I call my parents for about 5 months of the year pretty regularly so I need to keep my landline.

Yes, I also have considered just having my cell as my only phone, but haven't decided yet to get rid of the land line, though I know lots of people who do just that. Your canning is almost done for this season but I am sure you all ready have projects lined up to take it's place. I'll be going for my first workout session today, I'll let you know how it goes. Enjoy your hump day.

Shirl

I love pay day too and bills all paid. I know what you are going through about getting rid of the land line. I debated too, but because my hubby always works nights, I feel like I still need the land line. Have a great day emoticon

All is well in my world

Living life and enjoying living. Life is good.

Headed home from work yesterday without having to put in any overtime. It was nice to get home early. Had time for a nice visit with son before he headed out the door. Made an attempt to do some quiet time out on the back deck, but it got a little chilly. The sun is no longer shining on the deck by the time I get home from work and with the breeze we had yesterday, there was chill in the air.

It looks like I will have another container of tomatoes ready very quickly. Thank you Bre for your suggestions.

Not much happening here other than just the daily living things, so not much for news.

My positives:

Blessed with time to accomplish the things that need to get done.
Tomatoes are coming along nicely.
The basement floor looks like it's almost dried completely...yay, we should be able to get the new flooring in soon. It will be so nice to have that project all done.
A good night's sleep last night.
Payday tomorrow. Something to look forward to. *grin*

Have a wonderfully blessed day. Enjoy each moment.

Hugs,
Wanda

Last week of September...

Monday, September 26, 2011

It's the last week of September already. Garry and Kaeli made it home safe and sound from Saskatchewan and our son is now home for the winter months from up north. Yay, my family is all back in one location!

Shy and I had a great time yesterday hunting around for some bargains. I managed to find two shadow box picture frames (a start on a Christmas project) and a gift for Afton's birthday. Shyra made a start on some stocking stuffers for Christmas. Yes, I know it's early, but we have found that by shopping and purchasing little things all year long, that when Christmas rolls around, it's not so expensive or stressful. Besides...in our experience, prices always seem to go up at Christmas and you can't always find that "perfect" gift.

We had another beautiful day weather wise yesterday, and the forecast for this week looks like much the same. YAY!

My positives:
My family is all together in one location once again.
Garry's visit with his Mom was great. Kaeli and Garry took her to the annual "Goose Festival", garage sales, and just generally out and about. They had a great time.
Some of the nicest weather that we have had this year!
Although I didn't complete my goal for last week, there has been lots of progress in organizing the basement. It's coming together nicely. If all goes well, we should be able to get the new flooring installed in the next couple of weeks.
Just being alive.

Have a wonderful Monday. Give your health top priority this week.

Hugs,
Wanda

Another beautiful day to enjoy!

Sunday, September 25, 2011

Although tempertures are cool in the morning, the days have been warming up so nicely.
Had a lovely chat with Quin yesterday before he headed out to catch up with his friends.

I changed my mind about making the tomato sauce as I realized that I had enough ripe tomatoes to make some great salsa. Yay, some spicy salsa is now processed. I am down to three. containers of tomatoes that are in the process of ripening. Soon the canning will be done for awhile.

Did some organizing in my cold storage room. I'm having a bit of difficulty putting together the rotating can storage item that I bought. I think I have it all aligned just right and then start loading it and one of the spaces will be out just slightly. Siggghhh. I have walked away from it for a bit to allow Zen attitude to resurface *grin*
I will greatly enjoy the storage unit once I get it all together properly. Now when I buy case lots of canned goods, I will not have to rearrange the cupboards. I will just put the cans in at the top and the oldest cans will slide forward to be used first. I found a great site for storage containers. https://www.incaseof.ca/store/catego
ry/shelf-reliance---food-rotation/22_70/
. The bonus...they are located here in Alberta. It only took a week for my order to arrive. I ordered the cansolidator series, so that I could add on to it as I go along. I also order a couple of the storage pails with gamma lids. I want to store all my bulk sugar, oats, flour etc in the cold storage room, but because the sump is in that room also, there is moisture in the air. I am hopeful that these pails with the gamma lids will help to keep moisture out of the bulk items.
Although my goal of having the storage room completed by the end of this past week, isn't completely done, I'm very pleased with the progress. I need Garry's help in moving some things and as won't be home until tonight from Saskatchewan, I'm just going with the flow.

My positives:
A great time of chatting with son.
More processing completed.
Storage room is coming along great. Once I get the cansolidator figured out and set up completely, I can organize the shelves.
Time to read two books this weekend (sitting in the sun on my deck to boot!)
A visit from Shyra and Kyle yesterday.
Several text messages from Garry as he is visiting with his mom. I have to smile at how he has taken to texting things. Something he figured was crazy...why not just call the person! I think he has discovered the convenience of it! lol
Knowing how incredibly blessed I am.

Have a great and wonderful Sunday.
Hugs,
Wanda

Wanda - you sound like you're having a blast - I googled the storage system too when I couldn't click on - very impressive. Love that you can add onto it. Are you using it for your newly canned goods? It looks like it would work really well for this. I bit the bullet and ordered some fancy Weck Jars and am waiting (and waiting) for them to arrive now ... they are now in Canada (fancy jars ... expensive fancy jars) ... www.weckcanada.ca ... thought the monster needed to be fed a little something else heheh ... I didn't buy a lot just a few for very special things - I like that they have glass lids.

Kudos to you on getting the salsa made! I've now gotten into the habit of going to the garden and then just washing & chopping and leaving the canning until the next day (or even the day after) as the slow cooker buys me some time ... I've also discovered that freezing them immediately buys time and canning them once they thaw means the skins just pop right off (I leave the seeds in the sauce - I think it's all good - normally don't even take the skins off ... a little whirl with the macerating wand and they're ready). Maybe I'm just holding off on buying yet another toy -the tomato mill - the deskinner & deseeder! lol

Well your canning season is almost at an end, but what a great bounty you'll have stored away for the winter months, which are closer than I even want to think about, lol. Glad you have had a nice visit with son, and time with your DD. We enjoyed A.J.'s company this weekend. Can't wait till his surprise party. Yes, once I get into a routine at SNAPS I'll let you know what I think. I did take my measurements today and weighed in, that stayed the same, but after eating out a couple times last week, I am happy with that. Your storage unit sounds nice and you'll be so organized, woo hoo. Have a great week.

Hugs,
Shirl

The link didn't work for me, but I googled "in case of" of saw the cansolidator of which you "speak". Fancy organization ya got there. I'm not quite there yet. You have to know what you really want to consolidate before you lay your money down. At this stage of the game, I'm thinking of going "European". To me that means stop at the market and pick up your daily groceries fresh. Don't have a garden yet, so I don't can and have no cans to store. BUT I can admire your plan from afar. I enjoyed hearing of Garry's new found skill for the text. Tim has taken to the texting as well. Does it cost extra to text to Canada? Hmmm. . . I shall have to check into that. But, this blog thing is kinda like a text as well.
Enjoy your Sunday. Hope it's a great one.
Love,
Nancy
