Last week of September...

It's the last week of September already. Garry and Kaeli made it home safe and sound from Saskatchewan and our son is now home for the winter months from up north. Yay, my family is all back in one location!

Shy and I had a great time yesterday hunting around for some bargains. I managed to find two shadow box picture frames (a start on a Christmas project) and a gift for Afton's birthday. Shyra made a start on some stocking stuffers for Christmas. Yes, I know it's early, but we have found that by shopping and purchasing little things all year long, that when Christmas rolls around, it's not so expensive or stressful. Besides...in our experience, prices always seem to go up at Christmas and you can't always find that "perfect" gift.

We had another beautiful day weather wise yesterday, and the forecast for this week looks like much the same. YAY!

My positives:
My family is all together in one location once again.
Garry's visit with his Mom was great. Kaeli and Garry took her to the annual "Goose Festival", garage sales, and just generally out and about. They had a great time.
Some of the nicest weather that we have had this year!
Although I didn't complete my goal for last week, there has been lots of progress in organizing the basement. It's coming together nicely. If all goes well, we should be able to get the new flooring installed in the next couple of weeks.
Just being alive.

Although tempertures are cool in the morning, the days have been warming up so nicely.
Had a lovely chat with Quin yesterday before he headed out to catch up with his friends.

I changed my mind about making the tomato sauce as I realized that I had enough ripe tomatoes to make some great salsa. Yay, some spicy salsa is now processed. I am down to three. containers of tomatoes that are in the process of ripening. Soon the canning will be done for awhile.

Did some organizing in my cold storage room. I'm having a bit of difficulty putting together the rotating can storage item that I bought. I think I have it all aligned just right and then start loading it and one of the spaces will be out just slightly. Siggghhh. I have walked away from it for a bit to allow Zen attitude to resurface *grin*
I will greatly enjoy the storage unit once I get it all together properly. Now when I buy case lots of canned goods, I will not have to rearrange the cupboards. I will just put the cans in at the top and the oldest cans will slide forward to be used first. I found a great site for storage containers. https://www.incaseof.ca/store/catego
ry/shelf-reliance---food-rotation/22_70/ . The bonus...they are located here in Alberta. It only took a week for my order to arrive. I ordered the cansolidator series, so that I could add on to it as I go along. I also order a couple of the storage pails with gamma lids. I want to store all my bulk sugar, oats, flour etc in the cold storage room, but because the sump is in that room also, there is moisture in the air. I am hopeful that these pails with the gamma lids will help to keep moisture out of the bulk items.
Although my goal of having the storage room completed by the end of this past week, isn't completely done, I'm very pleased with the progress. I need Garry's help in moving some things and as won't be home until tonight from Saskatchewan, I'm just going with the flow.

My positives:
A great time of chatting with son.
More processing completed.
Storage room is coming along great. Once I get the cansolidator figured out and set up completely, I can organize the shelves.
Time to read two books this weekend (sitting in the sun on my deck to boot!)
A visit from Shyra and Kyle yesterday.
Several text messages from Garry as he is visiting with his mom. I have to smile at how he has taken to texting things. Something he figured was crazy...why not just call the person! I think he has discovered the convenience of it! lol
Knowing how incredibly blessed I am.

Wanda - you sound like you're having a blast - I googled the storage system too when I couldn't click on - very impressive. Love that you can add onto it. Are you using it for your newly canned goods? It looks like it would work really well for this. I bit the bullet and ordered some fancy Weck Jars and am waiting (and waiting) for them to arrive now ... they are now in Canada (fancy jars ... expensive fancy jars) ... www.weckcanada.ca ... thought the monster needed to be fed a little something else heheh ... I didn't buy a lot just a few for very special things - I like that they have glass lids. Kudos to you on getting the salsa made! I've now gotten into the habit of going to the garden and then just washing & chopping and leaving the canning until the next day (or even the day after) as the slow cooker buys me some time ... I've also discovered that freezing them immediately buys time and canning them once they thaw means the skins just pop right off (I leave the seeds in the sauce - I think it's all good - normally don't even take the skins off ... a little whirl with the macerating wand and they're ready). Well your canning season is almost at an end, but what a great bounty you'll have stored away for the winter months, which are closer than I even want to think about, lol. Glad you have had a nice visit with son, and time with your DD. We enjoyed A.J.'s company this weekend. Can't wait till his surprise party. Yes, once I get into a routine at SNAPS I'll let you know what I think. I did take my measurements today and weighed in, that stayed the same, but after eating out a couple times last week, I am happy with that. The link didn't work for me, but I googled "in case of" of saw the cansolidator of which you "speak". Fancy organization ya got there. I'm not quite there yet. You have to know what you really want to consolidate before you lay your money down. At this stage of the game, I'm thinking of going "European". To me that means stop at the market and pick up your daily groceries fresh. Don't have a garden yet, so I don't can and have no cans to store. BUT I can admire your plan from afar. I enjoyed hearing of Garry's new found skill for the text. Tim has taken to the texting as well. Does it cost extra to text to Canada? Hmmm. . . I shall have to check into that. A busy weekend ahead

I've got one batch of tomatoes ready to process, laundry waiting to happen and a cold storage room to finish organizing today.

Garry and Kaeli arrived safe and sound in Saskatchewan. His Mom was so excited that they were coming bless her heart.
We made a quick run to Costco before Garry left to stock up on somethings to take his Mom.

Quin arrived home in the wee hours of the morning. He called me around 9pm to let me know he was enroute. I haven't had a chance to catch up with his news, but once he gets up today, we'll have a visit. Shy and I decided that we would wait until tomorrow to go to IKEA.

My positives:

Thank you to all that visit my blog and leave me such encouraging comments. I really do appreciate knowing that you care.
Garry and Kaeli being able to go to Sask. to see his mom this weekend.
Quin's safe arrival home.
I will have about half of my remaining tomatoes ready to process today. YAY. I've decided to just do them up as tomato sauce and forget the salsa for this year.
Supposed to have sunshine and warm today...so far it's looking pretty dull and frosty outside!
So many blessings happening in our lives. Life is good.

My favorite day of the week has rolled around and I'm so looking forward to it being the end of a work week. This has been a very long week. Another successful meeting with another vendor yesterday. We should be done with all the vendor meeting now until next spring. We have such a great group of vendors and they all work with us so well, that it is a pleasure to see them.

Kaeli and Garry are heading out today for Saskatchewan. I on the other hand will be doing some canning this weekend as well as Shyra and I are going to make a run to IKEA.

My positives:

I don't have to spend hours traveling this weekend.
My tomatoes are ripening nicely.
It's Friday and the end of a long work week.
Shyra and I are spending some time together this weekend.
I have a lovely stack of reading material that I hope to spend some time with this weekend also.
Sunshine and warm weather has been allowing me to spend some time out on the back deck and meditating.
My shelving unit for storing cans arrived yesterday and I will be able to set it up and organize things in the cold storage room this weekend. YAY,
Being blessed with another day of life.

All day yesterday I felt like I was missing something. For some reason the date kept making me think that there was some special event attached to it. I kept checking my calendar to see if I had forgotten something. It still feels like I forgot something about that date. Very strange. If I forgot someone's birthday, I apologize.

Meeting this morning with another one of our vendors. This vendor is a real special guy. He is so nice to work with. Always brings Gail and I Timmies when he comes to visit. (Not that that is what makes him so nice...but it's an added bonus!)

Garry and Kaeli has decided to head out at noon tomorrow to Saskatchewan. Gives them a bit of extra time with Garry's Mom. I'm so glad that they will be traveling during daylight hours rather than dusk when all the deer seem to be jumping out onto the highways!

I have one container of tomatoes ready for processing. I'm hoping that the others have enough ripe tomatoes in them to make up a large batch of processing, rather than the 3 or 4 at a time that I've been having to do. Yay...almost done the canning.

My positives:

A wonderful phone chat with our granddaughter yesterday. Her birthday present had arrived and she was very excited to get it and wanted to say thank you. Love having chats with her. We also are connected through Skype and that is great to be able to see her when we chat.

My tomatoes are ripening and I should be able to finish off all the processing by this weekend.

I get to drive myself to work for the next couple of days...Garry has a loaner vehicle from his work that the company is needing to have some extra kms put on it. He'll take it to Saskatchewan too, which means I have transportation while he is gone. YAY.

Just being alive...what a blessing!
