Sept 20, already!

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

Just so you know....95 days to Christmas! I can't believe that 2011 is on the downside of the hill. This whole year seems to be zooming past!

Today and tomorrow will be usually long days at work due to the fact that an upgrade is going to be taking place with the computer program that I work almost exclusively in. I won't be able to do my usual work, but I still need to be there as some of the other staff that work in the program also are going to be away. I do have a meeting at 9am with one of our vendors, so that will help to pass some time. I think I will be spending much of the day trying to look like I have something to do! *grin*

It got down to zero here last night. Glad that the only veggies I still have in the garden are root veggies that don't mind a light frost. I'll take care of them this weekend. Garry and Kaeli are going to head to Saskatchewan for a visit with his Mom. Garry is going to help with some yard work and Kaeli is going to have her Baba show her how to make some traditional food dishes. I will stay at home to mind the home front.

My positives:

Sunshine through out the daytime hours still.
Having one vehicle stills seems to be working for both of us. We will see hope this works as the weather gets colder.
Met my goal yesterday with determination.
Waking up and knowing that I have a new day to live. A new day to improve and become a better and healthier person. So blessed.

Have a great and wonderful day. Hug someone today and start a positive ripple effect.

Freezing temps! Brrrrrrrr. I'm just hanging around here waiting for my BIL to get home from work and deliver me to the airport. It has been a wonderful trip. Lots of fun and fellowship and adventure. I look forward to filing a report so that I can relive some of the moments. It was a very positive trip. I am filled up nicely. Have a great day and don't freeze!

Thankfully we have the days still with some warmth to them - great days for outdoor walking. Here's to us meeting our goals.

WOW, zero already. It's kind of warm here, but we can definitely feel fall in the air. I know exactly how you feel about being at work with nothing to do emoticon Hope you have a good day!!!!

Yay, my computer is back up and running!

Monday, September 19, 2011

I missed yesterday completely due to computer issues. Saturday evening I logged off and my computer had some window updates to do before it shut down. Unfortunately, it got hung up somehow while installing update 2 0f 2! I spent the evening attempting to cold shut it down, but everytime I would do that, it would restart itself and all I would get was the same screen telling me that it was installing 2 0f 2 updates. Spent yesterday attempting everything that I knew of to get it unhung. Finally, I decided to just remove the battery from my laptop and see if that did anything. First attempt didn't work, so then I removed it for a longer period of time. Figured if I removed the power source it might correct. A bit scary to do as it tells you not to shut down or unplug while the update is happening! After leaving the battery out for awhile and then putting things back together....Woo Hoo...it worked! I don't appear to have lost any information and when I shut it down again, it went to another update mode and this time if completed itself...appears I am not back up and running.

My positives:
My computer is fixed...at least as far as I know!
I'm done to 5 containers of green/reddish tomatoes for processing. I made a very yummy homemade tomato soup yesterday for lunch with one small batch of ripe tomatoes.
I only have one bed of garden to finish cleaning out and then all the yard work is complete and we are ready for winter. We had a lovely day yesterday for working outside.
Found some hardware for the new cabinets that both Garry and I really like...and that look good on the cabinets. Now we just need to install them. Counter top and backsplash are almost dry enough to install. Garry wanted to put another coat of sealant on them first.
I got two of my shelving units built and installed in my cold storage room and am thrilled with them. They are on wheels so I can easily arrange them in a different lay out as my cold storage room fills. I would like to get two more units in the future.
Blessed with so much.

Have a wonderful day, be your own best friend...take care of yourself!

When a computer suddenly doesn't do what you expect it to do the effect can be quite stressful. Glad your hiccup has been sorted out, and you are only missing one day.

How clever of you to figure out how to fix a computer ... I keep having to remember to back up - just in case (one year I lost an entire years worth of work and had to do it all over again the next school year - I wont do that again). I just hadn't figured out how to turn the back up machine on properly and had given up on it ... I needed to stop thinking of my computer as some magical machine and think logically - like you did (like I didn't) heheh!

3 cheers on you making tomato soup too! emoticon

My potatoes went in really late and my tomatoes had to wait because of weather and were smaller than usual but caught up quickly though I think they lost a crucial week or two. The whippersnappers are good to begin in mid-Feb ... the others are ok around mid-March to end of March (our yougrowgirl mentor does hers early April) ... she really know what she's doing though.

The sun is shining and there's much to do!

Saturday, September 17, 2011

It's on the cool side outside, but the sun is shining so hopeful that we will have a warmer day. Weather forecast is actually predicting in the mid 20's for the next few days during the day time...woo hoo! Summer might not be over yet.

I have one container of tomatoes that are ready to process...I'm not sure if I will wait just one more day or not as there is a second container that looks like it could be ready by tomorrow. That leaves me with 2 very large containers of green tomatoes yet. But there is not rush to get them processed as yet. Today it's out to the garden to dig potatoes, with the warmer weather predicted, I just might leave the carrots and beets yet for a bit more growing.

Shy and I need to head into the city at some point this weekend to pick up a birthday present for Shavon. I need to get it in the mail on Monday. It's hard to believe that our granddaughter turns 14 on the 25th.

My positives:

Being alive and blessed with a new day to be creative in.
My counter top is now the exact color that we want...it just needs a couple of clear coats of varnish on top to seal and protect it. It's been a long project, but it will look so nice when it's done.
Our son comes home at the end of the month.
Although I didn't complete my goal for this week...I'm still pleased that most of it was met. Can't do anything about the ripening of those tomatoes...I'm blame it on the universe *grin*
Letting go of the small stuff and not letting it concern me.

Have a great and wonderful day. Smile, laugh and enjoy being alive.

Everything will get done in due time. I am looking forward to this week not being as busy as last, oh I have lots I want to get done, but it's not the having to be out running around kind of stuff. Tues. is Clenton's VA appointment with his doc for his dieabties check up, will see if she puts him on insulin or not this time. We had 142 there for the class reunion dinner last night, that's was a pretty good turn out for a class of 200, it was a nice meal, maybe tomorrow I'll post the picture that they took of me last night in my blog. My weigh in was good this a.m. down by 2, I'll see how this week goes and then decide wether I want to do the plan the last week of Sept. Have a great week, my friend.

Those tomatoes will be ready when they darn well feel like it - won't they - and the beets and carrots will love having the cold nights (I think they sweeten in cold weather) ... guess you just have to relax and enjoy a little time off now! I made a savoury zucchini bread (and zucchini marmalade last week) and there are still about 4 little zucs growing in the garden ... they make me laugh - they are so prolific and there's just no stopping them. I have lots of shredded zuc in the freezer and that makes me happy too. The little things! Have a great weekend.

Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain...

Friday, September 16, 2011

And the rain has started. On the plus side...it's rain and not snow!

We had a surprisingly warm day yesterday and although the nights are dropping very low, the day time temperatures are pretty good right now. Still glad I picked my tomatoes when I did though, as the night time temperatures would have damaged them.

I'm sitting here looking at all of these lovely green tomatoes and watching them slowly begin to turn to red. Should have some canning to do tomorrow. Yay...just might make me goal this week!

It's Fabulous Friday today...my favorite day of the week. Not only is it the day the signifies the end of a work week, it's the beginning of a weekend *grin*

My positives:

A nice chat with Daughter #2 yesterday and her plans for studies.
A nice rain falling, it will make digging my root veggies so much easier tomorrow.
It's Friday.
A successful month so far with my goals.
Some new books to read...love when my holds come available at the library...always something interesting to read.
Living, loving and being blessed...who could ask for anything more.

Have a wonderful day, take each moment and be grateful for it.

Last night was also very cool here. 5 degrees, brrrrrr. Beautiful sunshine today and calling for it all weekend. The temperature will not go extremely high, but it will be okay to relax while camping and getting some exercise in. Have a great weekend!!!!!

Slowly but surely....

Thursday, September 15, 2011

My goal for this week is to be finished with all my canning. Slowly but surely, I'm working my way to that point. If I don't get it all done, there will be very little left. My green tomatoes are slowly turning red (thank you Bre for your suggestion). I did up one very small batch of ripe ones yesterday after work and hope that by Saturday, I will have a much bigger batch to do. I don't need more relish, so will patiently wait for the color to appear.

Garry thinks that he has the final stain coat on the counter top. It is looking good. I love the darkness of the color. Once it is completely dry, he will put a clear coat on top to help protect it. Then we can get it installed. This has been a much longer process than we thought, but will be worth the wait.

I am struggling with finding window covers and really would like to get them done. Oh well, everything in it's time.

My positives:

A lovely long chat with Daughter #1 last evening.
Pay day yesterday...Yay.
Slowly I am working my way to fulfilling this week's goal.
Our son hopes to be home by the end of this month. It will be nice to see him again.
Life...so many blessings, so grateful for all that each day brings me.

Have a wonderful day,

You are welcome Wanda - I didn't know before researching it for you that ripe tomatoes help to ripen the others and I was glad to learn it as well. I'm off to the garden today - its getting quite cool here in the evenings now as well.
