Sorry I'm a bit late...

Tuesday, May 13, 2008

Sorry I didn't get chance to blog earlier today, but here I am now!

Just got back from our mid point Corporate Wellness meeting. We had a speaker who was absolutely incredible. Ken is a 28 year young man, who 1 year ago weighed 423 pounds. He woke up one day and decided that he no longer wanted to live the way he was and that he needed to do something about it. He started exercising regularly and eating properly and today he weighs 226 pounds. The before picture of him and the now vision of him was a miraculous change. It's not been without it's challenges and moments of wanting to give up, but then he reminds himself of his goals and why he wants to be healthy and just makes good choices. All I can say is he has found the secret....choices!
I managed to get 32 minutes of walking in after work outside, and then another 37 minutes on the walking track after our meeting tonight. I at least feel like I have done my part in being active today.

I challenge you to think about Ken's story and when you feel like quitting, whining or just plain making excuses....think about all you have to live for and like Ken choose to make wise choices and become the person you want to be.

Have an wonderful evening, I'm off to bed now.

Thanks for sharing that story with us. Everyday our lives are filled with decisions to make, obstacles to overcome and hopefully, mixed in there, a great deal of laughter and fun. And it does come down to choices. They're not always easy choices, but hopefully, we make the right choices. I think sometimes a little whining should be allowed since most of us are well into our 50's and are trying to undo a whole lot of years of bad habits to overcome, it's just don't allow the whining to become the priority, learn to whine and laugh it off and keep going. That's the ticket, I think, to always keep moving forward, don't worry about the three doughnuts you may have had yesterday, you can't un-eat them, but today you CAN not eat them and get back on course, again, choices.
Have a great day. Hugs.

Wanda - Thank you for sharing Ken's story. You're absolutely right.... instead of whining or making excuses we ALL need to make better choices and think about all we have to live for. That is what it's all about.... the freedom to choose - to be 'comfortable' a.k.a. lazy & do nothing and eat whatever whenever.... OR ..... get & stay motivated.... exercise.... make better choices when we eat .... and stay focused on getting as healthy as we can be and STAYING that way!

I'm so glad you shared Ken's story. What a motivator you are!!! See, we need each other here. Every one of us has something to share that helps someone else somewhere. I'm so glad you're here among us. Friends 'til the end!!!

Back on track

Monday, May 12, 2008

Yesterday was a lovely day, a day spent with family and enjoying each others company.
Garry BBQ'd supper, grilled pork tenderloin and potato salad and veggies.
I'm working on consistently getting 15 glasses of water a day and with summer creeping around the corner and being outside more exercising, I need to increase my water intake.
My granddaughter's father suffered a heart attack on Friday, but is doing fairly well. He needs to have a blood clot removed and a stint put in but appears to be mentally doing well. Just another confirmation that we need to take care of our bodies while we can, we never know what tomorrow will hold.
Positives from today....sunshine, beautiful sunshine! Oh, did I mention we had sunshine???? LOL.
This whole weeks forecast is great, I'm looking forward to lots of outdoor opportunities. Wednesday, Farmer's Market starts up again....yippee...fresh veggies! I eliminated 1 pound today...I've decided to go back to the recommended calorie intake that SP recommends rather than the Corporate Wellness program I am presently doing. When I changed my calorie intake, I plateaued, hence changing back again.
Not much to report today, I did get a lovely orchid plant for Mother's Day...here's counting on my green thumb to reappear as I really like this beauty! Since moving to Alberta from British Columbia, my green thumb seems to have stayed in BC!

Here's to drinking more water, lower calories and increased activity. Have a wonderful evening all.

Sounds like you enjoyed yesterday. Good for you on realizing that changing your calorie count from one program to another made you plateau. I probably woudn't have caught that. Good for you on your 1 lb also. Sometimes that's all I lose on a couple of weeks, then I'll lose 6. There is no rhyme or reason is there. Well, I just stopped to say hi and liked your blog. Good luck to you.

So glad that your Mother's Day was Nice... That's the way it should be. BBQ sound's great. Oh and the orchid... one of my favorites...
Good Luck with it for next years bloom... I have 3 that bloom, but I haven't gotten the others to bloom yet...

WTG on the 1 pound eliminated...
Good for you for getting back to what works for you ( SP calorie intake) ... I've been stuck for a while now, but won't give up...

So happy for you that you have sunshine and fresh veggies soon... I made tomato sauce today with all the tomatoes I didn't know what to do with... lol And there will be more coming... I should get good at it... lol

Wow so many positive things... That's why I love hanging with you and the others... It keeps rubbing off on me... lol

Have a great evening...

It was a lovely day here as well yesterday. Everyone around here had a great Mother's Day (I'm including my husband and son in that!)

Weight loss through good nutrition and exercise is a balancing act. All the thinking makes me crazy, however! I hope your change in calorie intake gets you back on the 'elimination train!" Wooo -Oooo!

Wanda - You make this healthy living journey sound like such a breeze! I sure wish I could join you in drinking tons of water. I used to be the water queen of all time. Believe me, if I could, I'd drink a couple of gallons a day! Love the stuff!

Orchids... they are so beautiful! I love them & lilacs! Roses, violets... the list goes on! Don't you love driving along & seeing wild flowers beside the road? I think they're beautiful!

Glad you enjoyed your BBQ & Mother's Day. So glad you're back to. Missed you.

Welcome back Wanda Missed you. The weekend sounds wonderful and nice barbque. Our Farmer's market opens on Thursday. We don't usually buy much there since we have our own garden. Hope that green thumb found its way to you. LOL I wish we would get some consistent sunshine. It shines one day and rains the next. Yesterday it was so windy. Congratulations on the pound.

I'm sorry to hear about your granddaughter's father. I hope everything turns out well. At least he's in good spirits. You must have rubbed off oh him too! lol You should write a book. Seriously, I think you'd write a terrific self-help book on finding the positives in life.
Well, you have a great night and I'll talk to you tomorrow at blog time. Hugs.

Not much today....

Friday, May 09, 2008

Not much to say today....it was just a lovely day!
A busy and productive day at work, it's Fabulous Friday and I'm fabulous because I have awe inspiring Spark friends, whose blogs I am so encouraged by, the sun has been shining all day, I went shopping after picking up my daughter from work....she needed jeans and wanted me to come along and offer an opinion (woo hoo, go Mom!).
My husband shared with me last night that he is so proud of me and the dedication he sees in me to be healthy. I have apparently inspired him to be more positive and think about his own health!!!! Wow, what a boost to the morale that was! One never really knows just how closely one is being observed! God sure is right when He tells us to "let our light shine, and to not hide it under a bushel".
Wishing all the Mothers and wonderful love filled Mother's Day.
I may be MIA for a couple of days...we hope to get away tomorrow to visit with family.
Hugs to all.

Let your light shine.

You have opened my eyes to the light as well.. I am feeling a little better today.. I got some sleep & the rest felt good.. Usually I wake up, feeling so much pressure in my head & ears.. Today's Quote

Thursday, May 08, 2008

I loved today's quote:

Worry is the darkroom in which negatives are developed.

- Church billboard in Colorado

Is your worrying holding you back?

Once film negatives are exposed to the light of day, they're ruined. In the same way, once you see your worries for what they are--self-inflicted doubts--their power disappears. If you give your doubts and fears too much development time, they'll take hold and start to color all of your thinking in a negative light. Pessimists have more health problems, are less productive, and are generally unhappier than optimists. People that don't worry as much spend more time coping with the realities of life and less time occupied with would-be problems. To get rid of worry, think more confidently. Know that you can handle anything that comes along. Know that with loss comes opportunity. Know that things generally have a way of working out. Stay out of that dark room and picture something better.

Just another confirmation about seeking the positives in your daily life.

Great day today. Although is started out very cold with a threat of rain/snow mix, it didn't materialize and by this afternoon, the sun was shining and it was beautiful (but windy) out.
Got lots of walking in today. I and a co-worker attended an OHS (Occupational Health & Safety) BBQ/tradeshow. We walking over to it and then around the displays. Even got a free lunch...lots of great salads! Didn't have to worry about calories!
My eldest daughter and I went for a nice walk after work, so extra minutes and calories burned there!
Last night was aquasizes and we were able to get in an extra 15 minutes in the pool...bonus! I was so pooped by the time I got home though that I didn't log on and do my blog. Sorry!
Picked up my new size 12 pants from the tailors today, I had to have them shortened...woo hoo, new pants to wear! I'm so excited about them. Lots of smiles and laughter at work today, even had a co-worker from a different department say to me today..."I wish I worked back here, you guys always have such a good time". Yep, we do...laughter is good for the soul.
Hope your day was filled with laughter and smiles, if it wasn't, it's not too late to give someone a beautiful smile and share a laugh or two. If you are home alone, give some one a call just to say you care and go to a mirror, look yourself in the eye and tell yourself, " You're awesome and I love you for taking care of yourself."
Have a wonderful evening...you deserve it!

I enjoyed that quote today also. It was part of my meditation. The things we hold in secret can destroy us. When we take them out into the light of day it is easier to see them for what they are.
So happy you have good times at work. I just can't imagine spending a day working where you feel it is a drudgery. You always share such positive things. I love reading your blogs

Woo Hoo size 12 pants ready to wear... I'm so happy for you... Now when you try them on... I want you to dance around and sing... I'm to sexy for my new size 12 pants... to sexy for my pants... lol

Hi Wanda, Make someone happy, & you certainally did.. Love your quote.. Keep the positives & wash the negatives right out of your hair.. The Positive for right now is that Tom is home.. Just pulling into the driveway.. Wasn't supposed to be back until about 9:00 p.m. Great that you got plenty of walking in for today
Your new pants sound like a nice change of pace.. Your body will be very happy wearing them, you too. Love & Hugs, Polly

Wanda, I love reading your blogs. No matter what mood i'm in you can always say or quote something that brings me back to a good place. Thank you. I had a pretty good day today too. I think I'm starting to learn that I need to slow down again. I try to cram too much into my day and end up feeling stressed, frustrated and extremely tired. Have to find that happy medium. Quitting school is really starting to seem like a good idea. I just have too much going on with no help and the work is getting harder and more time-consuming and that is one of my biggest stressors.
I'm glad you're day was a good one. It's always good to work somewhere that you enjoy.
Well, you continue to enjoy your evening and good work on all the walking today!! Way to go.
Have a good night. Hugs.

Smelled better today!

Tuesday, May 06, 2008

Well I did much better today! I didn't spill my soup all over myself and didn't smell like "soup de jour" for the rest of the day.
Now there's a big plus! Lol.

A beautiful sunshine day, I even wore flipflops and capris to work today...almost time to put the folding lawn chair in the back of the car so that I can sit outside on my lunch break and enjoy the weather.

I have to go and meet with my fitness instructor for the Corporate wellness program I am in. So looks like a work out is in order for me tonight. I need to finish off my day 3 bootcamp workout also.

Got a new battery for my pedometer, not sure if I did something wrong when I reset it, I checked it a couple of times and re-entered things a couple of times, but according to my pedometer, I am burning more calories in the same time frame than before. I have a feeling that it has something to do with my stride, but I lost my instructions for it and so will have to see if I can figure it out. Positive.....I have to exercise my brain!

A great day....lots of positive comments on my blog from yesterday, read lots of positive blogs today, sun has been shining all day, no soup spilt, so smelled better (lol), I meet with my fitness instructor this evening, I got some walking in, I was busy at work (makes the day go fast), and lots of giggles and laughter at work with co-workers.

Hope your day has lots of positives...if you don't think so, go back and review your day...for every negative thing you name, look for its opposite, it's there, I guarantee it!
