Week two's goal is being achieved.

Thursday, September 08, 2011

Yay, my week two goal for September is being achieved. My water intake is way up. This is what I needed to do to have success in this area...I needed to write my goals out and then focus on one goal at a time.

Although my tomatoes were not ready for processing during my couple of days off, I hold great hopes that they will be on the weekend. I'm not as concerned about them as I was seeing as our temperatures are the warmest they have been all year. In fact according to the forecaster, since May 2010! We are supposed to have these temperatures right through the next 10 days! Yay, no frost!

I did get all my apples juiced yesterday and a then 3 vacuum sealed packages of 5 cups each of apple pulp into the freezer, carrots chopped up and into the freezer as well as zucchini. All ready now for winter use. I still have lots of carrots in the garden that I am letting get a bit bigger before pulling and enough beets yet for another feast of homemade soup.

It's back to work today for two days and then a busy weekend ahead. I could get used to this working only a couple of days a week *grin*. (Working outside the home that is!)

My positives:

The bounty from my garden. Although it is lots of work harvesting and preserving, it's also a great feeling of accomplishment as you see it all packaged in the freezer or on the shelves in jars.
Beautiful warm weather...we are finally having summer.
I am grateful for my pay cheque that allows me to get the things that we need.
I am grateful for the internet that allows me to find different recipes to preserve the foods from my garden.
I am grateful for friends and family and the support and encouragement they offer.

Have a wonderful blessed day,
Hugs,
Wanda

Wanda - WOW - how very impressive that you have been doing so much gardening, harvesting and preserving - sounds like you're hooked now ... freezing is a good way to get things put away - I am considering buying a little freezer to put in my garage but need to get out there and create space for that to happen (as it is, my car barely fits into the space provided and I have an Echo Hatchback - that's condo living though) ... kudos on the good weather finally - the temps have dropped substantially here over the past few days so I'm just hoping for one more ripen load of tomatoes ... then it's fried green ones.

Congratulations on achievement of your goal with the water intake. I have always been able to drink lots of water. I find that it is best chilled, an keep a chille pitcher on hand at all times.

It sounds like you will have alot of healthy foods for you and your family this winter. Enjoy the fruits of your labor!!

WOW, your temperatures are going up and ours are going down, LOL. That's definitely good for your tomatoes though. Enjoy your day!!!! Congratulations on the water intake as it is such a big part of this healthy lifestyle.

September 7

Wednesday, September 07, 2011

So far this month our weather has been better than August....makes one wonder if the seasons are actually changing.

Afton dropped over for a nice visit yesterday and brought a huge bag of apples with her from their tree. Today will be spent creating juice from the apples and freezing the resulting pulp for baking later.
I think I will have enough tomatoes to make a couple of sealers of canned tomatoes, but it does appear that the bulk of my tomato canning will result on this weekend. The romas are slowly ripening on vine and should be ready by the weekend.

I'm pulling onions today and more carrots. The carrots I will chop up and vacuum seal and put into the freezer.

Garry's brother Brian, spent the night last night as his job had him in town. We had nice fresh potatoes from the garden roasted on the bbq, fresh salad from the garden and I made borscht. What a treat is was to use all my own home grown items.

My positives:

Fresh and tasty produce from my garden.
Afton and the blessings that she brings into our lives.
Another day off work today to prepare even more of my garden yield for the winter months.
God, my family and friends. Each so important in my life.

Have a wonderful and blessed day. Take the time today to be grateful for all the happenings in your day. The positives to lift you up and the negatives that help you to grow.

Hugs,
Wanda

Off to a good start

Tuesday, September 06, 2011

September's goals are set and I'm off to a great start. Week one's goal has been achieved and I'm working on week two's goal.

Not much to report today. Yesterday was a wonderful day, lots of sunshine and time with hubby. Even though it was nice and warm out, the second application on the counter top and backsplash did not try well enough to do the wet sanding and applying of the third coat. What this means, we did not get the counter top or backsplash installed yesterday as hoped. Oh well, it will get done this week and that is just as good.

My positives:
A successful completion of Week one's goal and a great start on Week two.
More tomatoes are ripening, but still not enough to make canning an option. We are supposed to get sunshine all this week though, so if I can't get anything done during the week, I'm sure that the next weekend will see things ready to go!
Garry and I had a lovely weekend together.
Life...so many blessings and so much to look forward to.
Learning to live with a grateful heart.

Have a wonderfully blessed day,
Hugs,
Wanda

Happy Getting Week 1 Done! I got off to a late start so this is my Week 1 and so far, so good...of course, it's only 3 days...but the nuns used to tell us if we used a new word 3 times, it was ours. Using that concept, the next 4 days should be a breeze! :)

Hugs and love.

Happy week two to you and your goals. A wheat free week under your belt. How do you feel? I am still working on fitting my pattern. It's a process of putting the pattern on, making adjustments, taking it off, making adjustments, putting it on again, making more adjustments. BUT in the end, I will have a pattern that will translate into many wearable items. I am practicing patience, tenacity and more patience. I'm getting there, slowly but surely. I am reminding myself to enjoy the work.
Have a great Tuesday.
Love,
Nancy

Holiday Monday

Monday, September 05, 2011

What a marvelous Monday it is today! It's a long weekend, I don't have to go in to work. I got to sleep in this morning, such a treat. Today will see the installation of our counter top and backsplash in the built in area. We just have two coats of stain left to apply to the maple and then it is ready for installation. I'm so proud of Garry and all his hard work.
The sun is shining and more of my tomatoes are ripening. I don't have enough yet to do anything in the way of preserving them, but they sure have been tasting great in salads!

The girls came over for BBQ last night and then we sat around and had a great visit. Shyra's boyfriend stopped over too, which was very nice.
Quin's girlfriend stopped by for a quick visit yesterday before heading to Red Deer for another year of schooling towards her teaching degree.

So many blessings...

Have a wonderful and marvelous Monday. Enjoy the long weekend. The next one is not until October !

Hugs.
Wanda

Blessings come in many forms.

Sunday, September 04, 2011

I love to lie in bed at night and mentally review my day. It always amazes me the number of blessings that have filled my day. They always outnumber any negatives.

Yesterday was filled with so many little blessings that by the end of the day I could truly say...What a blessed day!

Shyra called me bright and early to see if I was still on for a day of being together and tackling West Edmonton Mall. We had such a great day together. It is so much fun to go shopping with her, as we shop the same way. We wander into a store and if something catches our eye, we stop and look and if nothing jumps out at us we leave. It works great for us and we usually find whatever we are looking for while shopping this way. No wasted time, just allowing what is meant for us to be brought to our attention. *grin*. And Yes, there were things brought to our attention. Shyra did find the items that she had been looking for and looked wonderful in all of them. I found some books and a possible curtain for my DR windows...no dragonflies on it, but the colors were a good possibility. The books are keepers and then will get donated to our Bookmobile for their circulation. The curtain (I only bought one panel, just to see) doesn't work for the area as it blocks out too much light. I can return it and it has confirmed that sheers are definitely what we need for that area. Not a lost cause.

Garry in our absence was able to get the maple wood counter top all finished for the new built in. It looks great, now we are just determining what shade to stain it. We have a couple of samples going on some left over pieces and will decide today the final choice. We will make a final choice today on the back splash also.
Then we need to decide on the hardware for the cupboards. It's almost finished, thanks to all the hard work Garry has put into it.

We have found a great way of recycling the old wine cabinet that sits in the family room. It is a lovely (but very heavy) solid wood cabinet that we use as an end table right now. Garry is going to take it and removed the wine racks and glass holders, build in shelves and also sand it down, paint it and we will use it in the DR in the small alcove between the two windows in the DR area as a buffet. I will now have a place to store all my Christmas dishes and fancy serving dishes. It is the perfect size for area and a much needed useage. I'm excited because we don't have to go out and attempt to buy what we need, and we get to re-purpose something that we already have.

I now have SKYPE installed on my computer and have been able to chat with our son up north much easier. Still trying to figure out all the ins and outs of the program, but it's great so far.

I see more color in my garden...the tomatoes are ripening. I should be able to get them preserved in salsa, tomato sauce and canned tomatoes very soon. My garden has supplied us with wonderfully fresh veggies this summer and will provide us with bounty for this winter also. I'm amazed at myself at how much I have been enjoying the gardening.
Growing potatoes in the pots has been so successful...anyone can do it! It's so nice to walk out to my potato pots and dig out some fresh potatoes for a meal. I'm hoping to plant a couple of varieties next year. I might even attempt to grow one pot in the house this winter to see if it's possible..

It's a beautiful sunny day this morning and the predication is for a very nice warm and sunny week. Yay....I can enjoy my back deck for longer!

Have a blessed and wonderful Sunday.
Hugs,
Wanda

Wanda, great job on staying the same, I think we did good. This next week should go ok, next week I have three different days of not eating at home, that might be a bit more challenging but will strive to do my best, may have to work in more exercise. It sounds like you have been having a lovely weekend. I finally got to play with my new toy this afternoon and got a couple Sept. birthday cards made, that was fun and they turned out nice. Enjoy what's left of the extended weekend. Shopping with our girls can be so much fun, I love it.

Hugs,
Shirl

That is a wonderful selection of blessings. I particularly like you and Shyra's way of shopping. I must try it myself. I get tugs when shopping sometimes and they always steer me to nice goodies at a bargain price. Someone around me loves to shop for bargains. :-)
I must learn to be more aware of those tugs. :-)
