Happy September 1st!

Thursday, September 01, 2011

September...where did the other months go? It's hard to believe that we only have four months until the end of this year! Already Christmas things are appearing in the stores and my mind is shifting into the Christmas mode. Wow!

I had to turn the furnace on last night, the temperatures have dropped enough that the house was just a bit too cool! We have been promised warm weather though by Saturday. Our coldest day is supposed to be tomorrow.

My positives:

I have a furnace that I can turn on to warm the house up.
Weather person assures me that we are not done yet with summer weather and sunshine.
Quin's girlfriend offered us some apples from their tree, as they have too many. Yay...I will have apples to cut up and put into the freezer.
Shy wants Mom to come with her this weekend shopping. We haven't done that for awhile...should be fun.
I made it through another day with no wheat products.
I had a good day of staying on track yesterday. I've even pulled some carrots from the garden for snack at work today.
Blessed with another day of life.

Have a great day, choose to be healthy.

Hugs,
Wanda

Happy September 1st to you as well. I'm sorry that your furnace had to go on. We are getting cooler too. We are in the 90's instead of the 100's this week. Imagine that. I'm thinking about putting a garden in now. It was so hot this summer that everything just crisped as it bloomed. Have a great day, and a great September. I look forward to traveling with you.
Love,
Nancy

Payday and mid week all rolled into one!

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

Yay, it's Hump day and it's payday! (and it's the last day of August)

The kids are all heading back to school today in our neck of the woods. Makes me happy that I head to work well before the streets get congested with all the kids and parents that are driving their kids to school. We live smack between a high school (one block away) and a junior high (three doors down). Congestion with traffic on our street is an understatement from 8-9 am and then when school lets out in the afternoon. On the plus side...I leave for work well before most people are even up in the mornings and then I'm home just before school lets out!

Garry picked me up from work yesterday and we headed into the city to check out a couple of counter top places. Found some lovely counter tops, but not prepared to pay those prices. I think we will end up either re-thinking some ideas or going with a maple wood counter top, which Garry would have to make.

Temps must have dropped a fair amount during the night as the house is on the cool side this morning. I hesitate to turn the furnace back on as I know it will warm up during the day as well as by the weekend the temps are supposed to be warm again. We didn't get the rain that was supposed to happen. That is a plus and the cold rain might have hurt my tomatoes still ripening on the vine.

My positives:

A nice long weekend this weekend, and hopefully my tomatoes will be ready to pick.
The ginger preserves turned out great. I have lots of ginger flavored liquid left over for making tea and adding to club soda for a gingerale mix. (No, I didn't grow my own ginger, but it's something that I'm going to look into )
It's payday today...I love being able to sit down at the computer and pay all my bills online. Such a feeling of satisfaction.
Hopefully after this weekend, my kitchen will once again be clean and tidy...no canning things on the counters. Almost done for this season.
Kaeli stopped in for a visit and to share supper with me last evening. Garry had to work late, so it was nice to have Kaeli here.
I'm doing good on staying away from wheat products.
Fresh tomatoes from my garden for my snack at work today. I have the perfect sized tomatoes to take...they are about the size of a golf ball.
Just being alive.

Have a wonderful day, keep your goals in view on your calendar and then just focus on achieving them.

Hugs,
Wanda

Well it's Wed. and I did weigh myself, up 2, so will look back at what I've been eating, I think I may have too much ww bread in my diet, I've increased my exercise ativity, had hoped that would help keep me down, I'll see what adjustments I can make and see where I am at Sunday, it's certainly a learning process, sort of trail and error. I did a Wanda today and shook things up on the daily challenge, I hope everyone will just have fune with it. We are low on fresh fruits and veggies so need to get to the store today. That's nice you had a DD to share supper with, I am going to see two of my DD's this Friday and Sat. I always enjoy being with them. We must of got your rain last night, but it was just a gentle, straight down rain, didn't even have to close windows. Have a great evening.

Hugs,
Shirl

I need to go for groceries!

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

It's one of those mornings that I'm hunting for something to eat. Not that we don't have anything, but all the fruit is gone, all the yogurt is gone and I've been attempting to stay away from wheat products. I had to break down and have a small bowl of fiber one cereal. On the plus side, it's first thing in the morning and I have a whole day to adjust my intake!

Went out after work yesterday to check on my tomatoes. I have lots and with a bit more sunshine, many of them should be ready this coming weekend. It's a long weekend, so the timing couldn't be better.

My positives:

Although the ginger didn't turn out exactly like we had thought, it's still very good and the liquid that was left over will be perfect to add to tea or to add with soda water to make a gingerale. It smells so yummy and tastes that way too.
A lovely long weekend coming up. We hope to be able to make a quick trip to Saskatchewan to see Garry's Mom.
Although the temps are supposed to dip for the next couple of days and rain present itself, they are supposed to go back up again by the weekend. YAY.
Once all my tomatoes are done, I'm pretty much done with the canning. I might have enough carrots to do some carrots yet, but that all depends on how many we eat right out of the garden!
It's a new day and another opportunity to grow in learning.

Have a wonderful day.
hugs,
Wanda

Well we're almost half way through our week, tomorrow I'll weigh myself just to see where I am at and if I need to make any changes to what I eat the rest of the week, then I'll weigh myself again on Sunday and see where I end up at the end of the week. Glad to hear those tomatoes are coming along nicely and that you'll soon be done with all the canning. I am going out for my walk pretty soon, it' another nice day, they are calling for rain maybe later Friday, into Saturday. Enjoy your long weekend, I can remember when I was working how I always looked forward to those long holiday weekends.

Hugs,
Shirl

It's tough to plan those healthy meals when the produce supply gets low. I'm relying on some frozen veggies to get me to shopping day. (tomorrow) It is interesting to see how far changes in shopping and supplying the pantry have come. I usually have some good healthy options around. It's nice to be able to see that growth. It speaks of progress and is very encouraging. Enjoy your Tuesday. And hope the sun gets on those tomatoes before it gets too cold!

Nancy

On track and moving forward

Monday, August 29, 2011

I've finally broken through my long standing plateau and am heading in the right direction once again. After two weeks of shuffling up my eating plan and eliminating completely all wheat products...I've eliminated a total of 8 pounds! Woo Hoo. Although that is a lot in two weeks and definitely not a sustainable weight elimination standard, it's good to finally be going in the right direction once again and it is good to learn how much wheat products can affect me. Much of the weight elimination might be attributed to water lose, but regardless, I'll take it!
I have a renewed motivation now and will continue to monitor what goes in and how I expend the energy.

Kaeli and Shy both came over yesterday. We have a crock pot full of ginger slowly cooking away. I will finish it off after work today. I'm thinking that we might have done better to cut it into chunks instead of the 1/8th slices that it called for, but we'll see once it's done.
We ended up going out for supper as a family, which was very enjoyable. I watched very carefully what I consumed and felt that I was successful in my choices. Drank lots of water and ate very light.

My positives:
Learning that wheat products are not the healthiest choice for my body.
Have the day to spend with our girls.
More progress on the cabinets. Almost all the molding is in place now and the uppers are ready for me to begin loading up with glasses and china cabinet things. It's been almost 10 years since I have been able to take some of my china cabinet things out of storage!
A lovely long weekend coming up at the end of this week.
I should be able to harvest all my garden produce this coming weekend.
Being blessed with some fresh and healthy produce.
Being blessed with another day of life.

Have a wonderful day, find your mojo and put it to work for yourself.

Hugs,
Wanda

Congratulations on your breakthrough. I am doing a sugar free challenge and after a 30+ day plateau...I too finally broke through with a 5 lb weight loss this week. Just like you....I know that some of it was water etc., but I too will take it and sing praise that this breakthrough has occurred.

We are both back on track! Yipee! emoticon

Sunday, Sunday

Sunday, August 28, 2011

Another month has come and gone. Time seems to be whizzing by. We are heading into a new month in a couple of days.

Kaeli is coming over today to preserve ginger with me. Most likely her sister will arrive later in the day too. Yay...both my girls at the house.

Shy came over yesterday to wash her car using Dad's pressure washer. We pulled her car up onto the lawn to do the washing. As she wasn't using any soap, just scrubbing, the lawn got a watering at the same time. We had a nice visit with her.

Garry and I worked some more on getting the cabinets in the new built-in area. It seems to be taking forever to get everything in and completed, but Garry has such limited time to do anything that it's taking awhile. We will certainly be enjoying it once it's complete though. We got all the under cabinet lights installed now and they look great. We used LED lights and then hard wired them in so that all we have to do is use a wall switch to turn them on. Garry is hoping to get the moldings all installed today on the upper cabinets and then they will be finished. All that will be left to do is the counter top, the kick plates, hardware (chosen and installed) and the tiling the backsplash. I can then start loading up the cupboards *grin*

My positives:

A hubby who spends his only time off helping me to realize me house dreams.
My family.
My tomatoes are coming along wonderfully. I was hoping that I could begin canning them this weekend, but now it will likely be next weekend before enough of them are ready. We have been eating the few that are ripe now and they taste so good!
Positive people in my life.

Have a wonderful serenity Sunday,
hugs,
Wanda

Wanda you did good with the 7-day plan, wasn't your total elimination 8 lbs. now that's not bad at all. I am so very happy to be under 170 finally, so this week will really watch what I eat and keep up the exercise as I don't want the scale moving upward, it's time for it to move on down. Your description of your cabinets is so nice I hope we'll see pics when they are all done. I also realize there are some foods I am better off rarely or seldom eating, this 7-day plan has helped us learn some things about our bodies and what they like and don't like. Glad you had some DD time. Have a wonderful week.

Hugs,
Shirl
