It's a cool one today!

Monday, August 15, 2011

The temperature really dropped overnight. Things are looking a bit frosty out there! The temp is 12 degrees, overcast and windy. A real "Winnie the Pooh" sort of day.

I still need some hot weather and sun to ripen all the tomatoes on the vines. I'm looking forward to having some ripe tomatoes this year, not all green like last year!

Garry and I found a new Farmer's Market in the city yesterday. They are open all day Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 4pm. When talking to one of the venders, they mentioned that the plans are to eventually become year-round. They are working in partnership with Servus Credit Union and looking at getting a facility that will allow them to be indoors during the winter months. Yay...the plus side to their location...lots of parking!
We bought some kolorabi, some sweet onions and some dill. I'm hoping that our local market will have pickling cucumbers ready this week as I would like to get my pickles done. My cucumbers didn't do so well with all the rain that we have had this year. I am going to try a different brand for next year and hope for better results.

My positives:
An extra day off work.

Me time today.

Found two more floor vent covers to match the ones that we have in the LR/DR. We were short two and now they are all the same and looking nice.

I'm all ready for the little "goblins and witches" that will be coming to our door on Halloween. We were in Costco yesterday and they have treat sized containers of play dough. Yay...I hate giving out so much candy and so decided that I would be the one that gives out something different. They will get a treat size chocolate bar and a treat size play dough container. It's crazy how we teach our kids not to talk to strangers or take candy from strangers and then October 31, we send them out to knock on strangers doors and ask for candy! It bothers me when I see so many children running here and there with no adults accompanying them.

Having a new day to be excited about.

Enjoy your day, make the most of all the opportunities that come your way. Be aware of how great being alive is.

I managed to mostly do Day 1 yesterday of following the plan...that is until we got invited out for supper! So today, I will start again. I did feel good though knowing that I followed the plan as closely as possible for the best part of the day and I felt good. Learning to go with the flow and not letting the circumstances mess with my attitude is all part of feeling healthy. Today is a new day.

Garry and I accomplished lots from the "to do" list yesterday also. We got the lower cabinets all built and they are now in place. The toe kick still needs to be installed and the counter top, but it's looking great. We got the patio blocks moved and the fire pit set up on the blocks...so fire regulations are met. Now we can sit around a lovely fire outside this fall as the weather gets cooler. It is a fire pit that we can actually cook on also, so I'm set if the need ever arises *grin*.

Did some baking yesterday also. I used up the fruit pulp that was left over from juicing and made some fruit loaves, which I now have vacuum sealed and in the freezer. Popped one of the loaves off to the girls for them to enjoy. I'm thinking that I might even make batches of cookie dough, roll the dough into log shapes, and put them into vacuum sealed bags and into the freezer too. Then closer to Christmas, all I will have to do is pull whatever roll of dough I want out, thaw, cut the log and bake. Voila! cookies . Can you tell that I am having fun with my new Food Saver machine????

My positives:

Many things accomplished on the "to do" list .
A nice long chat with my brother. He and his wife are attending the Uranium City reunion that we had wanted to attend. It was fun to catch up on news of people that we haven't seen for many years.
I think that Fall is becoming one of my favorite times of the year...doing all this preserving and filling my freezer with things for the coming winter is rather an exciting thing. It's such a feeling of satisfaction, knowing that my family will have healthy things to eat during the winter.
A new day to be alive and open to blessings and opportunities that the Universe brings my way.

Have a wonderful day, be excited about your day.

You handled that good, if you get messed up just start again on day 1, I hope you have good results too. I am taking this week off and will resume the plan on Augst 22, for 2 weeks and then will go off for another week. I needed this to get my ticker moving on down again, and I am pleased that at the end of 2 weeks I had eliminated 7 lbs. I am amazed at all the good things you have been making and how all that will taste so good to your family this winter. Have a wonderful week.

It's Silly Saturday time once again. I love that humor is such a big part of our lives. I can't imagine not sharing giggles and laughs as an every day part of my life.

Garry got home from work around 7pm last night and the first thing he said is "What are the girls doing tonight?" My response...call them and ask. Turns out that both of them were out together at the book store and looking for something to occupy themselves with. All their Dad had to do was say the words "garage party" and they both said "see ya in a few minutes". We are so blessed that our relationship with our kids is so wonderful.
The words "garage party" are synonymous with "family and laughter" in our lives. The great thing is that it's not limited to only the family, their friends (and ours) are all included. Its a great time of sitting around and being silly together. It evolved as "garage" because in the evenings, we get the sun on that side of our house and it's a nice warm place to sit and also to chat with all the neighbors that wander past . It's "social time".
Last evening the girls decided to bring Mom an ice cap from Timmies as they were looking forward to sharing a beer with their Dad and know that Mom doesn't drink alcohol. What a nice surprise, as I usually sit with my cup of tea in the evenings. Shy's boyfriend popped in for a visit also and then headed off to continue his bike ride while the girls stuck around until midnight. Such a fun time just being together.

My positives:

The blessings of my children and hubby.
6 quarts of Borscht all canned and in the cold storage room.
Nice big bowl of fruit sitting on my kitchen counter waiting to be consumed.
Some baking on the agenda for today.
Garry has today off work and we are going to tackle some more of the "to do" list.
Being alive...how much more exciting than that can you get!

Have a great and wonderful day...don't forget to put humor on your list of things to have.

Wanda, love the idea of garage party...My mom would invite one and all once a month and we would have those celebrations in our apartment...thanks for bringing that memory forward.

I would have had to add Timmie's to that list...I miss them now that they closed their US locations...Did you know they were providing all the refreshments on the Hope Bus...the RV program at work...

Hugs and love...

Happy Saturday, Wanda. I'm still having some computer issues and Peter has been home for a visit, so I've been a bit scarce. I was just able to log on and got a bunch of e-mails stating so and so " has just joined ". . . the team is growing bigger that I can keep up with. Phew. Next week I'll be gone to help with the daughter of my best friend's wedding. This is the second daughter this summer. Then school starts and the "normal" routine begins. Until I get myself regulated, perhaps I'll try e-mailing to keep in touch. Have a great weekend. I'm thinking of you.

Full agenda for today.

Friday, August 12, 2011

Even though I am off work today, my agenda will be full. Today will be a day of cooking and canning. It is so exciting to be finally harvesting things from my garden and preserving the bounty for the winter months.

Beets on the agenda today...possibly some onions and carrots too.

It was great to sleep in until 7 this morning. This getting up at 4:30am for work is getting harder to do. Poor Garry has been having to get up much earlier too as we are down to one vehicle and he has been having to drive me to work.

My positives:

A nice long weekend ahead of me to make good in roads into all my canning and preserving for this winter.
It looks like a lovely day is in store weatherwise for us.
A great night's sleep last night.
A new day of life to be creative in.
Having the opportunity to provide healthy meals for myself and my family. Nice fresh produce from the garden.

Thank you for stopping by, have a wonderfully Fabulous Friday...make the choice to be positive.

Yay, it's my Friday today!

Thursday, August 11, 2011

This work week has gone by fast even with the overtime I have been putting in each day. I will end up working overtime I'm sure, today also. That's okay though, as I have Friday and Monday off as part of my holiday time. Woo Hoo.

Had a nice visit with Kaeli when she stopped over to the house after she was done work. Sent her home with some fresh peas and carrots from the garden as well as jams that I have been making. It feels so good to share the bounty that my garden has produced.

Garry's brother will be in town today and spending the night at our place. It will be nice to see him and catch up on his family news. His wife's father has been very ill and Barb had to head to BC at the same the rest of us had to head to Saskatchewan for the funeral.

My positives:

It's my Friday today *grin*
This work week has passed by quickly.
My beets are all ready to pulled from the garden and preserved.
Grocery shopping after work today. I actually enjoy grocery shopping! Knowing that I will be coming home with lots of fruits and veggies and healthy stuff is a great feeling.
A much better sleep last night.
The long weekend ahead of me to accomplish many items on my "to do" list.
Friends, family and just being alive.

Have a wonderful day, be a positive ripple effect creator.
