Happy Hump Day!

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

Now that I am back to work...Wednesday...Hump Day once again feels like a milestone in my week. Mid point through the work week and on towards the weekend. YAY.

I had my performance review at work yesterday and it looks like I still have a job *grin*. It's hard to believe that I have been at this job for 10 years now. So much has happened in the past 10 years that looking back on this time is almost overwhelming. Lots of good mixed in with lots of tough times. We made two major moves. Our children all graduated from schools (high school as well as University). The lost of both of my parents and now one of Garry's. Moving up through the ranks at my job, from part-time to full-time. Purchase of our home. Discovering that gardening is actually fun and so far the creepy-crawlers and I have a truce. Our basement flooding twice, on the plus side of that, renovations we didn't have to pay for. Finding Sparkpeople and as a result some wonderful friends. Those are just some of the big ones off the top of my head. There are numerous smaller things, both blessings and learning experiences. Ahhhh, life! Without the learning experiences we would never really appreciate the blessings.

My positives:
Being so blessed.
The daily opportunities that come my way that allow me to grow and become a better person.
My husband, children, family and friends.
That by cultivating a grateful heart and a positive attitude, I open myself up to even more blessings.

Have a wonderful day, remember that Life is what you make it.

Wonderful blog, I love that the positives(blessings) far out number the negatives(bumps in the road). My doctor didn't see any reason for me not to follow the diet plan as long as I am feeling good, she even asked to make a copy. Lab results were negative on my mole, just sun damage no skin cancer, I have a slight skin infection around the site of the removal and she put me on an antibotic and I go back in a week, otherwise all is good. Can you believe you and I have been Sparking for 3 yrs., a very happy anniversary to you too.

Busy, busy, busy

Tuesday, August 09, 2011

First day back at work and it was a busy one yesterday. Ended up working overtime to finish a couple of things. Think it might be that way all this week.

Had a nice treat though. Kaeli had the day off her work and stopped in at my work to have lunch with me. Unfortunately Shyra wasn't able to join us or it would have a been a nice "family" gathering.

Kaeli dropped off all the pitted and cut up apricots for me and I got the apricot/ginger jam made last night. One more item off the list of "to make". The nice thing about this jam...was having the nutrition values on the recipe. I will print it out and attach to the jars so that I have it.

I ended up getting a ride home from work last night rather than walking because of working late. Let's see what today brings!

My positives:

Apricot/ginger jam is made. Looks very nice in the jars.
Good day back at work yesterday...lots of work to keep me busy.
Lunch with Kaeli.
Thank you Shirl for the email and the information.
Moving forward.

Have a wondeful day, keep on smiling.

500 spark points on the wheel today!

Monday, August 08, 2011

I think that this is about the third time that I have had the 500 bonus points on the wheel...today I've treated myself to a virtual treadmill! Woo Hoo...walking it is.

It's back to work for me today. I have to wake Garry up in a little bit to drive me as we are down to one vehicle. Will have to do that all this week for sure. I am going to be walking home though. It will take me almost an hour to walk home, but look at the exercise I can get in. Wednesday might be the only day that is if for walking as "rain" is forecasted.

I got all the celery cleaned out of my garden and diced up. Popped 1.5 cup into vacuum seal bags with my food saver and now they are all in the freezer waiting the making of winter soups and stews. I got 14 cups all total done. I will have to plant more next year, but thrilled with my first attempt at growing celery. Hope to make a start on the beets in the garden this week. I made Raspberry (no sugar added) freezer jam yesterday afternoon. Used up all the raspberries that we brought home from Garry's mom's. I got 8 pints. Kaeli is bringing over all of the fresh picked apricots that she brought home from BC and we are going to turn that into jam also. I love the jams that you don't add tons of sugar to. This way I feel better about serving them to my family.

My positives:
Garry sold his car.
Raspberry jam all made as well as all my celery preserved for the winter.
A short work week, as I have Friday and Monday of the following week off.
Apricot jam making this week and beet canning.
My house is slowly becoming organized once again. Things are being moved back into their proper places after the renovations are nearing completion.
Opportunity to walk home from work today. Yay, some exercise to add to my day.
A new day, new opportunities.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit.

My last day of holiday time...

Sunday, August 07, 2011

Today is my last day of holiday time, tomorrow it is back to work. Although, it will be a short work week as I have Friday and the following Monday off as part of my holiday time also, so two short work weeks in the making.

The long weekend that I have booked will be a weekend of canning, as much of my garden will ready to process. YAY. I will need to buy my cucumbers for pickling as we have had so much rain this year that they did not do well over the long haul. But that is okay as most things in my garden did very well. I am going to attempt to dig up my pepper plants and transplant them into pots that I can take into the house as the weather cools. They are doing well, just need more growing time. They haven't had the sun that they needed to produce peppers, but the plant is very healthy. Hoping to buy them some time by putting into pots to bring indoors. I hate to disturb the roots, but the alternative is they die from the cold anyway so not much of a choice.

My cold storage room is all finished and I'm thrilled to have it. We are building shelving in there now to hold all my canning and such.
Purchased the lower cabinets for the built in area in the LR/DR yesterday and we will assemble them and get them installed. We are doing a "pay as you go" with them as I hate owing money on anything. So will take us a bit longer than we had planned, but that is okay. The money that we had set aside for them needed to be used while Garry was traveling back and forth to Saskatchewan...a worthy cause also.

My positives:
I have greatly enjoyed my time off work...yep...definitely could get used to being at home full time. Still working towards that goal.
A lovely visit with Kaeli last evening. It was great to catch up on all her news and find out news from family and friends that she was able to visit with on her holiday.
Garry sold his car yesterday...a nice bonus...we will be down to one shared vehicle for a bit.
Lots of tomatoes on my plants, we just need some nice sunny days in a row to help them ripen.
God, who blesses our family with so much abundance.

Have a wonderful Serenity Sunday.

Sounds bountiful. Hope that you are able to ease back into work tomorrow. Nice that you have a short week. That will help ease the transition. Enjoy your Sunday.

It was a dark and stormy night...

Saturday, August 06, 2011

Wow, did we have a thunder boomer come through here. It started about 2:30 am with raise you off the bed boom and continued with massive lightning and thunder up until about a half hour ago. It's 8am and I have to have the lights on in the kitchen due to how dark it is outside!

Garry had to head out in the storm to pick up Kaeli from the bus depot in the city. She was on her way back from BC. He's still not home, so not sure if the bus was late or if they maybe stopped for some breakfast.

I have to head out in a few minutes as my monthly massage treatment got changed to this morning. Yay!

My positives:

Kaeli will be coming over this evening so we can catch up on all her news.
Seems like the thunder and lightning might be over now.
Sump pump is working great...for which I am glad as the rain has been really coming down.
My cold storage room is all completed and now I can begin moving things back in there and get my canning supplies all unpacked for use.
God has generously watered my garden for me once again. Although I won't have any fruit off my apple and pear trees this year, they seem to have weathered the transplanting to my back yard fine. So maybe next year I will have some fruit from them.
Being blessed with a warm and dry home.
Being alive to enjoy a new day.

I do love a good storm, but recovering from a disturbed night can be ... interesting ... :-)
Enjoy Kaeli's company, and I'm so glad things are moving along with your renovations. :-)
