Basement restoration is coming along!

Friday, August 05, 2011

Woke up this morning all stuffed up...the restoration going on in the basement is getting to me. Even though we have been trying to keep the odors from drifting upstairs, they have made their way through out the house. Yesterday, the painting started and that is what is getting to me. I was stuck in the house most of the day yesterday as I was cooking and canning, but today's plan is to spend the bulk of the day outside...and it appears that we are going to have a lovely day to do that in. Yay!

Shyra joined us for supper last night and then she and I watched "So you think you can Dance". I must admit, I am thrilled with the 4 that are left in the competition and I think any one of them deserves to be the finalist. Amazing talent.

Kaeli will be catching the bus and coming home from BC. Garry will pick her up at the bus depot tomorrow morning at 7am. It will be nice to see her and catch up on all the news.

My positives:

Picked some beets from my garden and they look great. Perfect size, not too small and not too big!
Made a great pot of soup with carrots and celery from my garden. It is so nice to walk out my door and find fresh veggies to add to my cooking. I'm already planning next years garden *grin*
Progress is being made in our basement. I'll soon be able to put things back where they belong.
I will have a cold storage room in my basement now. YAY! Just in time for all the canning that I have been doing and have yet to do.
Hoping to pick up the cabinets that need to be installed in the LR/DR area by the end of this month. It will be nice to have that room all complete.
How God blesses us when we are opening to receiving His blessings.

Have a wonderful Fabulous Friday.
Hugs,
Wanda

August 4

Thursday, August 04, 2011

I had a great day yesterday. My mangoes are all turned into preserves and I'm very happy about that. My accomplishments: 4 loaves of mango bread, 10 pints of peach/mango salsa, and 7 pints of mango jam. I've never tried the recipes before that I searched out on the internet. Sampled the mango bread and I'm sold on it! Even took a nice warm loaf over to our new neighbors as a "welcome" gift. The salsa is supposed to be good with chicken, so figured my hubby would like that. He is also a big jam person, so now he will have a new treat to go along with his raspberry jam.

Today's agenda includes more canning and making some "make-ahead" meals and getting them into the freezer. I figured while the cooking/canning bug has me in its grip, I had better get some results *grin*.

My positives:

I'm feeling energized, haven't felt this way for a long time.
Enjoying the opportunities that the day will bring my way. How exciting to know that each day is a new one with yet untold opportunities.
Friends, family and God.

Have a wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

Today...it's canning day!

Wednesday, August 03, 2011

Or at least it is a day for preserving some mangoes. I'm scouring the internet for some really tasty mango recipes that I can make. Thinking that perhaps some mango bread or something along that line as well as possibly making some mango salsa. I have some nice fresh mangoes that I need to do something with and I actually have the time today!

Ceiling in the LR/DR is all painted now. Painting supplies have all been cleaned up and put away and now I can also start moving some of the furniture back into the that big room. We still have the new baseboards and window trim to install, but that can be done relatively easy by moving furniture out from walls.

Farmers market tonight, and plan on picking up some things to can. I figure while I have the time off this week, it is a good opportunity to get a head start on some canning.

I'm already planning in my mind what I want to plant in my next years garden! Crazy, I know.

My Positives:

I was able to upload all the pictures to my facebook page that I wasn't able to upload to Spark. Not sure why I could do one place and not the other, but there it is.
Spending the day being productive. I love having the time to be "suzy homemaker".
Looks like we might get more rain today, so it's a good day to do inside projects.
Having the time to do the things that I have forgotten how much I enjoyed.
Being blessed with another day of life.

Have a wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

    Here's my favorite mango recipe:
Emerald Frappe' - from my friend Rebecca Woods

In a blender, combine:

1 cup of romaine lettuce
1 cup of fresh basil leaves
1/2 of fresh mango (1/2 if mango is large, whole if small)
1 t. ground cinnamon
1 cup cold water (add more if necessary)

Frappe' those ingredients and serve immediately.

It is a very energizing drink. Not everyone is crazy about green smoothies, but this is like drinking a glass of health to me and I love the sweetness that the mango adds to the drink.

Have fun canning, Suzy!
Happy Wednesday.
Love,
Nancy

August is here already!

Tuesday, August 02, 2011

Wow, August has already arrived...before you know it, it will be 2012!

Had a wonderfully relaxing day yesterday. The sun was shining and our time with Garry's brother was great. We sat around on the back deck enjoying the fact that there were no demands on our time.
Drove Lyle to the airport in the late afternoon and then stopped at Kelsey's for a light supper before heading back home. Garry doesn't have to go in to work today, so we are going to spend today ticking some items off the "to do" list. I've got a hair appointment at 9am and after that it will be full speed ahead at getting some things done.
The ceiling is half painted in the LR/DR and we will finish that off today so that we can begin moving things back in there. The Reno crew is supposed to come back today also to finish the reconstruction of the basement...things are moving right along.

My Positives:
Garry and I have today off together and plan on tackling the to do list.
Such a great visit with Lyle.
Sun shine!
Picked some peas from my garden yesterday...oh they are so good.
Hair cut this morning...finally!
Being alive.

Have a wonderful day and thanks for stopping by for a visit.

Hugs,
Wanda
I tried again to load pictures but any of the ones that Lyle took come up as being too large a file and I can't load them. I can however, load ones that I took with my phone! Very strange. Anyway, I was able to load them all on to my facebook page.

My favorite picture of Kaeli and Garry's Mom.

Yup. it's August already. There's a song by John Mayer called "Stop This Train" and it plays over and over in my head. Time just goes by too quickly. Sailor Peter is on his way home to pick up some things and spend some time. He started out from San Diego yesterday afternoon and is hoping to make it here tonight. It's a long haul. It will be nice to see him again. Enjoy your "to dos" and your time with Garry. Have a great day.
Love,
Nancy

I'm back and now on my holiday time.

Monday, August 01, 2011

Thank you team for all your support. Just knowing that you all were lifting myself and family up over this past week has been great.

The funeral and all the details that went into it came off wonderful. Very stressful, emotionally draining but now we can all move forward and begin healing and learning to live life in a new way.

I tried loading some pictures into my blog today, but for some reason it kept telling me that the file was too big...not sure why as I was doing the same thing that I've done before. Will have to check into it and see what is the problem and correct it. I wanted to share pictures of the incredible creations Garry's Dad had done. Oh well maybe later.

Got Kaeli off to the train station bright and early yesterday morning. She had to provide a copy of the death certificate so that she didn't get charged extra for having changed her reservations. We were both very surprised when they gave her a refund! They informed us that it was a discount for breavement and even offered condolences. Totally unexpected and very touched by the gesture.

It was a great time to see so many old friends from up north and relatives that we haven't seen for many years. A sad occasion, but also an great time with family and friends. Such a contradiction.

My Positives:

Safe travels for everyone.
God's strength and comfort with all of us during a very difficult time.
Garry's brother came home with us and we have the opportunity to spend a little more time with him before he flies out of here this evening back to BC.
Sleeping in my own bed!
I have these next few days off as holiday time, so going to enjoy them by just relaxing.

Thank you all for your kind words and caring.
Hugs,
Wanda

Have to say that is the most amazing example of customer service I've heard of to date! :-)
So glad to see you are back, and glad that things went as well as they could have, in the circumstances.
