What a lovely day yesterday

Thursday, July 21, 2011

Not only did we end up with some sunshine, we had our friends from BC arrive for an overnight visit.
It is so nice to reconnect with them and catch up on each others news. They are heading out early this morning to Saskatchewan and then on to Manitoba. Hopefully we will connect up again on their return trip. Garry is heading out this morning also so I will arrive home to an empty house!

The restoration people will be arriving again today to actually begin some work. Yesterday they were here long enough to haul in their supplies and then out the door again! This could be a long process *grin*

My Positives:

Time to visit with good friends.
It looks like it is shaping up to be a sunny day.
A nap in my future...this could be a long day at work *grin*
Being so blessed.

Have a wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

And once again it is raining!

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

It's almost becoming funny now! Everywhere around us, there is sunshine and heat waves. Not only are we the mosquito capital of Canada, I'm thinking we will also be getting the distinction of being the rain capital too!

It's been raining all night and shows no sign of letting up at the moment. But hey, this is Alberta...wait 5 minutes and the weather will change *grin*

We have friends arriving from BC to spend the night tonight. I've been able to arrange to go in later tomorrow to work, so that will help. It does mean a longer day for me, but the friends are so worth it.

My positives:
I don't have to use tap water to water the garden! Rain water does it so much better.
Friends arriving tonight.
Baby Jaidyn's 1st birthday today.
Garry will be home for tonight. He doesn't have to leave to Saskatchewan until tomorrow.
Fresh berries for breakfast.
Dental work all done for another 6 months.
Angels, guides and God in my life.
Being blessed with another day of life.

Have a wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

A real boomer!

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

Yesterday morning as I was typing out my blog, I noticed that there was a reddish glow in the air and the old adage of "red sky in the morning, sailors take warning" ran through my mind. It was only a few minutes after that, that I began to hear thunder in the background. Decided to head to work a few minutes early as I didn't want to get caught in the rain.
As I was driving to work I was noticing the strangest cloud formation I have ever seen. It was a solid band of cloud, no breaks in it at all that looked like a giant wave rolling in. It stretched from the south to the north across the sky and there was lots of lightning happening behind it. The wind was picking up by the time I parked at work, but I made it in before getting wet. Within minutes the sky was pitch black, you couldn't see out the window at all it was so dark. Then the storm hit. The thunder was so loud that it rattled the windows. Awesome display of Mother Nature. It lasted about an hour and then just as quickly cleared up and left us with a very warm and humid day.

I wonder what today will bring????

I'm having a fresh bowl of Saskatoon berries for breakfast this morning. Kaeli brought them over last night. She had gone to the U-pick farm and picked them the night before. They are so yummy.

My positives:

I got all my weeding done on Sunday, so didn't have to worry about being out in the mosquito infested back yard yesterday.
A busy day at work, so the day went by quickly.
We have friends arriving for overnight tomorrow.
I've been blessed with a new day of life.
I met my goal of 8 hours of sleep last night.

Have a wonderfully blessed day,
Hugs,
Wanda

Hi Lexie...I tried to use the link, but it wouldn't work for me. I was able to get into the Cloudappreciation Society.org...but wasn't sure where to go from there.

Why am I surprised that you are a member *grin*

Hugs,
Wanda

They are a rarity that cloud type. If I'm right, you saw a Rollcloud. Check these pics out and see if they look like the one you saw. :-)

It probably won't surprise you to know that I'm a member of the Cloud Appreciation Society. :-)

We may actually have sun again today!

Monday, July 18, 2011

Garry was attempting to cut the grass yesterday as we had a jungle in the front and back yards with all the rain we have been having. The ground is still so wet that cutting the grass was a real chore. The mosquitoes were not so nice either, but it was nice to cut down some of their hiding places. The moment they swarmed up in the air though, it was interesting watching all the birds gathering!

The girls popped over for a nice visit yesterday and we spent some time out on the back deck enjoying our time together and relaxing.

We have new neighbors moving in next door and they seem very nice. They are busy doing repairs and renovations before actually moving in. Once they are in, I'm sure we will have more opportunity to get to know them.

My positives:

Got my pear tree planted...yay...two apple trees and a pear tree added to the back yard this year.
Restoration on our basement is supposed to start this week. The basement floor is still holding lots of moisture though, so not sure if they are bringing the machines back in to dry it out or not. Hope so, cause I refuse to have the new flooring laid down with a damp cement floor underneath.
Only 11 more days until my holidays!
I spent some time in my garden yesterday and am thrilled to have noticed that I actually have some tomatoes. They are tiny yet, more they are there. As well as I have a couple of cucumbers making their appearance. Woo Hoo.
We have company coming for overnight Wednesday night. I'm looking forward to seeing our friends from BC.
Just being alive.

Have a wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

I, too, have new neighbors who are very nice. BIG rain seems to fall every afternoon/evening. I cut my grass and sometimes I secretly wish for rain so I can 'defer' that chore.
Since I retired, horticulture and cooking have my focus. Seeds, cuttings and grafting are some 'can I do it!' challenges for me. Last week, I planted three pomegranite tree seedlings. I started them in early spring of this year from dormant, stick cuttings. Yesterday, I gave a clerodendron bush to my new neighbors and planted another brugmansia (yellow blooms) in my front yard.
By the way, I love your 'fish' wallpaper!

Going with the flow has it's benefits.

Sunday, July 17, 2011

Yesterday morning I woke up with a terrible headache. I was thrilled that it appeared we were going to have a nice sunny day. Great opportunity to spend some time outdoors and soak up some sun while I meditated.

Change of plans right off the bat. I got a phone call from my "trucking" brother, he was doing a time layover at the truck stop close by and wanted to know if I would like to meet him for breakfast. I wanted to say no due to the headache, but as I hadn't seen him for some time felt that I really should. At first the negatives tried to take over my day reminding me that I had a headache and really needed to just take time for me. Then I called on my angels for their help in changing my attitude and relieving my headache so that I could enjoy the visit with my brother.
By the time I arrived at the truck stop I was already beginning to look forward to seeing him. Got some toast into me and I was beginning to feel better. Within about 20 minutes of being with him, my outlook had changed and I was feeling much better. Discovered that Layne was going to be spending the day and night at the truck stop due to needing to make sure that his hours of rest between driving were filled by legal requirements.
I sent Garry a text message letting him know and asking him if wanted to call my other brother and see if they wanted to join us for a bbq at supper time and we would have some family time. Yay, they would join us. Texted the girls and they could join us too.
Told Layne to grab a change of clothes and what ever he needed for the day and we would head to our place where he could have a shower and spend some time together relaxing.
What a good day we had. It is the first time in a very long time that there was just the two of us and we had some very heart-to-heart conversations. What a blessing I would have missed out on if I had chosen a different path in the morning.
We had a lovely evening with all of us gathered. We managed to spend much of the evening out on the back deck before the mosquitoes got so bad we had to head indoors.

My positives:

An affirming of the fact that our choices do make a difference in how our day goes. We can have a good day, a better day or a great day!
Today, I will be blessed with time to get the laundry finished, and time to get out into my garden.

Have a wonderful Serenity Sunday,
Hugs,
Wanda

So glad you had such a wonderful day. I suspect you actually needed that time with your brother, which is why he turned up. :-)
