I am being very optimistic this morning...we didn't have any rain overnight and although it is still overcast, there appears to be some small breaks in the clouds. Perhaps we will finally have some sunshine today!
I am anxious to get out into the garden to see how things are growing. With any luck the weeds that have managed to make an appearance will be easy to pull. The ground is so saturated that they might have even drown *grin*.

We had friends over to share a lunch with us yesterday. What a lovely visit. It was so nice to catch up on all our family news. Complete change of menu from what we had hoped to have. Due to the cold and rain, BBQing was not an option, so instead, soup and sandwiches became the order of the day.

We didn't get the ceiling finished as planned, so it will carry over until possibly this weekend. Garry is heading out today for Saskatchewan and hopes to be back by the weekend. If I get brave enough, I might try to tackle the ladder and painting the ceiling myself. I'm looking so forward to getting my house back in order.

My positives:
A great night's sleep last night. No storms to keep me awake.
Feeling optimistic about possible sunshine today *grin*
Only a couple more weeks until my holidays.
Trusting that all the flowers I see on my cucumbers, potatoes and tomatoes will translate into a bountiful harvest.
Having fun with my new juicer.
Email from Quin...he is safe and sound and busy. Says the fishing is awesome.
Blesses that flow into my life each and every day. Guidance from above.

Have a wonderful day,

and the rain continues!

We actually had to turn the furnace back on yesterday! I'm thinking that environment Canada did not get it right at all with their prediction that this summer would be very dry and extremely hot! So far all we have seen is very low and cool temperatures and lots and lots of rain! Our temperatures dropped down to 9 last night...and this is JULY!

Still rain forecasted for today...and it does appear that will be the case with the overcast skies that I see out the window. I am so glad that we have two sump pumps going in the basement or we would be dealing with yet more water there. What a crazy summer this has been. All I can say is....there had better be sunshine and beautiful days when my holiday time rolls around at the end of this month! *grin*

We have friends joining us for lunch today. We haven't seen them since we went to Las Vegas this spring. Looking forward to having a nice visit with them.

Garry is heading out tomorrow morning for Saskatchewan. He hopes to be back home here again mid week, but will decide once he is there.

We got all the taping and cutting in done for the ceiling yesterday. Garry is going to try and get it completed today. Neither one of us likes ladders and it required me being on the very top of the ladder in order to get the taping done yesterday. Garry, being taller, didn't have to go up the ladder quite so far in order to do the cutting in. We have an extension for the roller so hope to avoid the ladder as much as possible today.

I tried a beet/apple/celery combination in the juicer yesterday that was very tasty. I'm thinking this is going to be fun.(and healthy)

My positives:

Kaeli dropped in for a visit yesterday afternoon and Shyra dropped in last evening.
John and Donna coming to share lunch with us today.
Hope to have the ceiling all painted by the end of the day today.
Free watering of my garden!
I see lots of flowers on my cucumber plants, Yay! My potato plants have lots of flowers also, and I'm hoping that the tomato plants are the same.
Holidays coming up at the end of this month. I'm looking forward to the time to be at home and enjoy relaxing.

Have a wonderful Serenity Sunday,

I love your list of positives -- friends, home projects, and gardening. Sounds just like me! Gardening is new for me. Having just recently retired, I'm trying new things! I planted a flower garden and I'm seeing just how much work it takes to keep it beautiful!
Enjoy your day!

Where oh where has the sunshine gone, where oh where can it be!

Saturday, July 09, 2011

Enough already with the rain! Another over cast day today and 90% chance of rain, siggghhhh.

Garry and I laughed as we looked out in the back yard last evening...my tomato and potato plants are loving this weather...they have grown so tall now that they have out grown their containers. Even the supports for the tomatoes look dwarfed around them! All I can say...I had better be getting a great crop.

We picked up my new pear tree yesterday. YAY. It should be great digging to plant it in the back yard, the ground is so soft with all this rain. We did discover that I will need to purchase a second pear tree in order to actually have pears. They need to cross pollinate. So that will be next years big splurg. I'm just excited to have at least one now.

I tried out my new juicer yesterday...love it! I made a strawberry/kiwi/pear drink. Had a bit of a kick to it, so may need to adjust the amounts, but it was so good. I took the pulp and placed it in a baggie then froze it. I will use it in baking at a later date. Today I will try juicing a veggie drink.

Garry is hoping to stay home this weekend and we will attempt to get the ceiling painted in the LR/DR so that we can put all the paint stuff away and begin putting the room back together. He plans on heading back to Saskatchewan to his folks on Monday for a few days. His two brothers and one of his sisters will be there this weekend and staying until Wednesday. His Dad is still hanging in there.

My positives:

Winning 500 sparkgoodie points on the wheel this morning. I decided to splurge on myself and get me some new yard equipment *grin*.
No watering for me this weekend.
A new pear tree to plant in the back yard.
It's the weekend.
Having fun with my juicer. So far it is living up to the reviews that I have read and heard.
Good dental appointment yesterday, although I need to go back next Thursday to have them finish the work they started as it took longer than was initially thought.
Friends coming over tomorrow for a lunch time visit. We haven't seen them since February.
The restoration on our basement is supposed to start soon! We are now being scheduled into their schedule...YAY! I just hope it gets all done before mid August when we have people arriving for a visit.

Have a wonderful Saturday,

It's dark outside!

Friday, July 08, 2011

Yep, not only are the days starting to get shorter, which means it is not so light when I have to get up for work, but the sky is very black looking with all the storm clouds that have gathered!
We are under weather warnings and have been told to expect up to 100 mm of rain over the next couple of days! Enough already! Thank the good Lord that we have two sump pumps now...we have so much moisture in the ground that even on hot sunny days the pump has been kicking in.
A shorter work day for me today. I have a dental appointment at noon. I usually try to make my appointments for after work, but it didn't work out this time. I'll have a nice clean mouth after my cleaning today...always love that feeling.

Off to Costco for some veggie and fruit shopping. I'm looking forward to trying out my new juicer this weekend. My foodsaver machine also arrived yesterday, so now I can take the pulp that is left over from juicing and freeze it so that I can use it in other recipes. A win win situation for me.

My positives:

I won't have to water my garden again! Just hope it doesn't get flooded though.
New juicer and food saver machines to play with this weekend.
Get to go and shop for veggies and fruit today. This fall, I'll be able to go out my back door and "shop" in my own garden!
Email from Quin and he tells me that the fishing is great (translation...he's busy and loving it)
Short work day...and then nice clean teeth.
My family and friends.

Have a wonderful Fabulous Friday.

Love the idea of using the fiber-rich pulp from juicing in other recipes. Positively brilliant plan.

While it is nice not to have to water the garden, enough already!!! :-)
At this rate you'll need a boat to pick your veggies!

Night time storm.

Thursday, July 07, 2011

Wow, did we ever have a storm go through here in the wee hours of this morning. Lots of loud thunder, rain and wind. Thought I might have to be out in it as I go to work this morning, but it has finally quit. On the plus side....I won't need to water the garden today! Humidity levels are high though, so could be a "sticky" kind of day.

My new juicer arrived yesterday. It is such a blessing to get something that you can really use for zero dollars. Sure you can say I paid for it through buying groceries, but I needed the groceries anyway and by buying on extra points day, I come out ahead in the long run. Saving the points has enabled me to get something that I can use for free! Woo Hoo. I'm excited about trying out the recipes and having a healthy glass of juice each day. I'm also thrilled to see that there are recipes for using the left over pulp after juicing too. I plan on sealing the pulp in freezer bags and then using them as I create soups etc this winter.

My positives:
My new juicer.
The rain storm that went through here and watered my garden for me.
Payday yesterday, I'm off to Costco after work today to load up on fruits and veggies.
Blessed with another day of life.
I'm grateful for the new opportunities that are coming my way.
Grateful for guidance.

Have a wonderful day,

It all sounds good to me, even the storm doing its bit for the garden, thank goodness no damage occurred though.
Enjoy your juicer!

I have been thinking about getting a juicer but haven't made the step yet... Let me know if it is worth the clean-up after the juice comes out!
