May 15 and all is well

Sunday, May 15, 2011

The sun is shining, the wind is still blowing. We have had wind blowing for several days now. I've never seen so much wind. My plants are going to need very sturdy stems in order to survive out of doors this year!

I love that I can now leave windows and doors open and allow the fresh air to come inside. I love the openness of it all. Being closed up and confined in the winter months, although warmer, is not as nice.

Got many of the thngs on my "to do" list accomplished yesterday. Some that got added and others that are waitiing their turn *grin*

I discovered when finally having the time to go through all the flyers that arrive in my mail box, that two stores were having a great sale on bags of topsoil.
I need more top soil for my new garden beds. They both had them on as Saturday only sales. One store had 25L bags on for 99cents, but a limit of 4, The other store had a limit of 10 and they were 30L bags for 1.49 each. Yay, I have some more soil for my gardens. We will still need more, but I'll watch for further sales and see what happens.

Today's plan is to tear up all the awful carpet and underlay in the LR/DR in preparation for the new flooring going in. I am going to try planting my corn and peas today, as they can with stand "cooler" temps. I'm really amazed at how much fun I am having with all this gardening. Me...the person that hates creepy crawlies. But I guess when you are following the urgings of your guides and the Lord, they can help you to overcome any obstacles. I've really come to believe that it is necessary that all of us learn to become more self-sufficient, and growing our own food to what ever extent we are able to is one way of doing that.
Even Garry and my children are coming around to the same way of thinking. Gas prices are going up crazy, cost of everything rises right along with it. By growing our own veggies at least and some fruit and by canning my own produce, it helps to cut the costs and allows us to eat healthy still. Probably healthier, as they food I grow is full of pesticides and artifical colorings.

My Positives:
Just being alive and enjoying life.
My garden and soon to be more garden *grin*
Being able to leave doors and windows open to the outside.
Setting goals (to do lists) and seeing things becoming accomplished...such a great feeling. I've discovered that I'm addicted to writing goals/list and then seeing all those same things crossed off as they are accomplished *grin* Side benefit, I have my focus on accomplishing my lists and my focus is not on unhealthy things. No time to grab that cookie !
Friends, family and my spiritual guidance.

Have a wonderfully blessed day. Appreciate all that you have and also all that you don't have.

Hugs,
Wanda

Half way through another month!

Saturday, May 14, 2011

Wow, time is just whipping by! Already it's the middle of May.

It's a lovely Saturday, I've been back at work for a week now, almost completely caught up with the work that was left for me. Now it's weekend time once again and I have a beautiful day ahead of me to continue with the "to do" list.

My plans for the day...finish put back together the computer/craft room. I have some pictures that I want to frame and place on the "family" wall, get out in the garden and start working in the dirt. I might even take the chance and plant some of the hardier seeds, as well as my potatoes into pots, laundry(a never ending story*grin*) and what ever else my day brings me.
Tomorrow we are hoping to be able to tear out all the yucky carpeting from the LR/DR and do some prep work for the new flooring that will be going in there. We have someone that Garry is going to call and see what he would charge us to do the painting of the ceiling and all the walls in there. We have a vaulted ceiling and very high walls that requires one of us to go up a ladder...not being a ladder person...I'm not excited about that prospect! Kitchen Essentials is coming on Monday after I'm off work to give us some estimates and ideas for our new built ins that we want in that room...which means I need to get all the stuff that is in there now removed! A busy weekend ahead, but look at the things I can cross off the "to do" list*grin*

My positives:

Almost completely caught up with the backlog of work that was on my desk at work.
The days are warmer and I've been able to leave my portable greenhouse outside all week. The seedlings are doing great.
Getting to work in the garden this weekend.
Our son will be back home early next week to help us get the new garden beds made and ready for me to plant in by the end of the month.
Heard from some distant relatives that we haven't seen for a few years and they are wanting to come for a visit at the end of June. Yay, another family get-together.
Sun shine...nothing like sun shine to make a person feel so much better.
Garry sold his car which makes for a little more cash flow. Now he is down to just one car that he drives and he has that one up for sale also. The price of gas is ridiculous and having extra vehicles is not an option that is practical.
It's great to be alive and living a life that is filled with so many options.

Have a wonderful Saturday...don't forget to smile and laugh, it's good for the soul.

Hugs,
Wanda

A happy, silly Saturday to you, dear friend. Sounds like you have plenty to do this weekend, glad you have sun, ours is up there somewhere, hiding. Enjoy your weekend and try and work in some play time. You are so right about the price of gas, ours has come back down a little, but people just aren't going as much as they were, it doesn't do our economy any good. My DD and SIL are thinking about riding their bikes to work this summer, they are both about 5 miles from their work so it's doable. I'll be leaving soon for the ladies tea, fun!

Computers and angels

Friday, May 13, 2011

Yesterday morning as I was shutting down to head out the door for work, I noticed that there were some window updates that needed to be done. I quickly hit the update/install button knowing that my machine would install things and then go into rest mode until I got home. Once I got home I needed to restart my computer before the installs were effective. Again I never really paid that much attention to what had been installed.
Arrrrgggg...I installed the new Windows 9...let's just say...I really hated it. I lost all my links and the format is terrible. Being brilliantly technical (she says tongue in cheek) I thought I would just do a restore to a previous time as I wasn't sure what all had been installed. Yay, restore was successful...except that when it installed windows 9 it wiped out everything and now I could no longer get into the internet period.
Time to ask my angels for some assistance. Had a chat with them letting them know that I really needed to get things fixed. End result...I felt to phone Kaeli and ask her for some advice....she suggested that if possible that re-install all the updates (which thankfully I was able to do) and then switch to Firefox . Not only is it less vulnerable to viruses, but the format is very simple and easy to use. YAY...it worked. Thanks Angels, all of you.
I had to do some rearranging of things, but generally I have it set up the way that I can easily function. I'll do some more reading and looking after work today.

My Positives:
Angels
It's Friday~!
The winds have finally died down. They have been gusting around 60km an hour for the past two days. My wind chimes were really making a racket last night.
I've been doing real well at monitoring my health this week.
Going out to supper with my hubby this evening...it's date night!
Being so blessed.

Have a wonderful Friday,Hugs,
Wanda

Another wonderful day.

Thursday, May 12, 2011

Our temperatures rose to plus 22 yesterday...I gathered my book when I got home from work and spent some wonderful time enjoying the back deck. To be able to sit outdoors in the sunshine after the long winter we have had is so renewing for the soul.

Kaeli had the day off yesterday and popped over for a nice visit. We sat together out on the day enjoying the sunshine and the gusty winds...but it was so nice.

Shyra leaves this morning for a week's holiday to Cuba. I trust God to keep her safe and that she will enjoy her holiday.

My seedlings survived the night outside in their portable greenhouse. I put the containers with the cucumbers out for awhile yesterday too, but the wind was just a bit too strong for their slender little stems, so carted them back indoors. I'll try again today if the wind has died down.

My Positives:
Visiting with Kaeli.
Seeing how excited Shyra is about her holiday.
My portable greenhouse is working at protecting my seedlings.
It's almost weekend time.
I've made great inroads into my in basket at work. Almost caught up from being away.
The leaves are all finally starting to come out on the trees...YAY...spring is here! I'm looking so forward to all the trees being in full leaf. Such a pretty sight.
Especially after such a long winter of looking at bare branches.
Being so blessed.

Have a wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

Yay, it's payday!

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

Yay, it's payday today. After being on holidays and doing renos, payday is much appreciated!

I took a gamble last night and left my portable greenhouse with all my seedlings outdoors. It was supposed to stay in the 10 degree range overnight and today is supposed to go up to 24. I placed the greenhouse right up against the side of the house on the deck in a sheltered spot, so hope that "coolness" didn't harm them in any way. It's time to get them used to being out of doors as they will need to be transplanted into the garden by the end of this month anyway.

I'm working hard at being aware of my intake and not allowing myself to be side tracked. I need to get my water intake back up to normal for me. I got sidetracked over the winter months with drinking tea instead of water. I'm usually not a tea drinker, but somehow got into the habit over the cold months.

My positives:
Warm sunny days.
A good nights sleeps last night despite having some trouble shutting off my brain in order to fall asleep.
It's payday...I enjoy payday and getting all the bills paid. Such a feeling of accomplishment*grin*
I'm excited for Shyra...she gets to leave for Cuba early tomorrow morning. Holidaying for a week there.
Business has been very good for Garry the past couple of days. YAY.
Blessings, when you learn to appreciate the little things, your day is so filled with blessings.

Have a wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

My water intake is down too, but am working on getting it back up there as it does make a big difference, we'll get there. Hope your plants survived the night in the coolness. I love hearing everyone talking about their gardening plans, I always enjoyed our gardens. Paydays are always nice and paid bills give you peace of mind. Great blog, have a good evening.

Hugs,
Shirl
