Feb 19 and all is well

Saturday, February 19, 2011

It's Silly Saturday, time for some chuckles and letting my inner child out to play. To those of you who participate in our Silly Saturday challenge...thank you. I look forward to checking it out each week and starting my day off with a smile and a laugh.

Our tempteratures did a major nosedive last night. It hit minus 40. My prayers were going out to the hockey players as they continued their "world's longest hockey game" challenge. These guys and one lady are incredible for what they are doing. As of yesterday they have raised just over $620 thousand dollars to go towards a special machine for the Cross Cancer Institute. When the average person gets involved, they can move mountains. There are over 1000 volunteers helping to keep these players fed, warm and encouraged round the clock out at Saikers Acres, where the game is taking place outdoors.

As I left work yesterday, I decided to check the shelves to see if I had any holds ready to be picked...woo hoo...there were 11 books waiting for me! Yay reading material for the weekend plus!
Today though, before I allow myself to sit down with a book, I need to warm the vehicle up and head to the grocery store, get laundry on the go, wash floors and put the crock pot on with some veggie stew.
Quin and his girlfriend are coming over for dinner tomorrow. YAY, I get to see them both. Think I'll ask the girls if they want to come too.
What looked like a weekend with no plans, is rapidly filling up. It pays to be flexible.

My positives:
I get to see Quin and Afton this weekend.
Grocery shopping...I love wandering up and down the isles and choosing healthy foods for my family.
Some great books to read.
A nice sleep in this morning...I actually didn't get up until 7:45am...I did wake up at my usual time of 4:30am but being able to roll over and close my eyes again was wonderful.
No snow to shovel this morning.
Although temperatures are very cold, I don't have to be out it. Prayers for those that do please.
I have my health, a positive attitude and I'm choosing to live in Easy World where all things are easy.

Have an awesome fun filled day,
Hugs,
Wanda

Fabulous Friday!

Friday, February 18, 2011

This is a great Fabulous Friday...it leads into a long weekend...yay!

Just a bit of snow to shovel this morning. Enough that if it was left, the sidewalks would get packed down and become icy once again. Yesterday mornings shoveling was bitter cold. I thought the temperature was only minus 14, but it was minus 21 with a wind chill bringing it down to minus 32. Bless Garry's heart for hearing me out there shoveling and getting up and coming out to help me. Seeing as he doesn't have to get up at that time of the morning, I really appreciated his assistance.
I haven't even checked the temperatures this morning as last nights news was declaring minus 38 overnight....brrrrr. Considering the time that I head out the door for work is generally still considered "night" by most people, I don't even want to know how cold it is *grin*

I'm feeling very proud of the local group of hockey players that are attempting to set the Guinness book of records for world's longest continuous played outdoor hockey game and raising money for charity at the same time. They are now at the half way point in their quest for the title. They have set the record twice before now are going for it again. Last nights weather must have been very difficult for them. If you would like to know more about them here is a link. www.worldslongestgame.com/Default.as

My positives:
I am blessed to live in a county that supports one another. Strathcona County is filled with volunteers and people that care.
It's Fabulous Friday.
The snow shoveling this morning shouldn't take that long.
I am responsible for the choices I make and my attitude.
I have friends and family that care.
I am blessed in so many ways.

Have a Fabulous Friday...you are Fabulous just because you are!

Hugs,
Wanda

Brrrrr....yuck....bah humbug...to the sn*w! It's going to be in the mid-50s F today...and then dropping about 25 degrees overnight...Boohoo...Mother Nature must be really upset over how we have treated her!!

Be safe...have a FABULOUS Friday...why? Simply because you ARE fabulous!!!

Hugs and blessings.

Snow! arrrrggggh

Thursday, February 17, 2011

I'm out the door for my morning cardio this morning. We got snow overnight and shoveling is my chore before getting to go to work. Oh Joy! Thankfully it doesn't look like it will take me more than about 20 minutes, but it depends on if there are any drifts to shovel through.

Busy day at work yesterday. We had two training sessions that took up a couple of hours of morning as well as a multitude of orders that need to get placed. I like being busy as it makes the day go by quickly.

I learned something interesting in one of the sessions yesterday that made me think about how often I see people doing this. Talking on a cell phone while fueling up their vehicle....because they are around flammable liquid, this is a no no. Same reason that you are required to shut off your vehicle while fueling it up. I don't own a cell phone, so this is no problem for me, but it is something that I see frequently.

My positives:

Two days in a row now of doing some weight training. I know, you are supposed to take a break between days, but as I'm only starting out, I need to develop a habit once more.
Shoveling snow this morning will give me my cardio.
I have a body capable of doing what I ask of it...I just have to ask more often*grin*
I have a job that earns me money to do the things that I want to do.
I am blessed.

Have a wonderful day, see you all later. Thanks for stopping by.

Hugs,
Wanda

My new goal...

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

I am "just doing it" and getting back to doing some weight training. It is not my favorite thing to do, but I do know that it certainly goes along way to "toning" up. I used to be so faithful at starting every morning off with at least 15 minutes, and somewhere along the way it just kinda dropped by the wayside. Well, I'm making a challenge for myself ...I will add some weight training back into my mornings everyday for the rest of this week and see where I go from there. I like setting small goals for myself as they are always more achieveable than setting big goals.

I find that when I do things first thing in the morning, they get done. If I wait until I get home from work...wellllllllll.

My positives:
My weights are out and ready to go...so will I be as soon as I finish up here.
I have a long weekend to look forward to this weekend. It's a civic holiday on Monday...yay!
Life is good.
Yay...heard from Lexie and Nancy yesterday...I've missed you both.

Time to go and get my weight training done. Have a great day all. Challenge yourself today to be the best you can be.

Hugs,
Wanda

Wanda, the strength training is the easy part for me. I actually keep dumbbells in my office and use them throughout the day. It's getting cardio in that's a challenge for me!

Hey, great deal on those Skechers!! :)

Hugs.

You can do it! I find it harder to get my cardio in some days. The strength training is something that is so portable and you don't need much space to do it. Good luck!!

I'm with you on the strength training. It isn't my favourite part either, so I try and make sure I get mine in three days a week, right after breakfast, because if I leave it till later it never gets done. :-)
Self discipline. I needs more of that! LOL

My new sketchers....

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

I've been wanting a pair of sketchers shape-ups for a very long time. In Canada they are not inexpensive, so that has been the big hold back for me getting a pair. Friends have bought them and have enthused about how comfortable they are, I've wanted to try them out, but at almost $200.00 a pair that wasn't something that was going to happen anytime soon. When we were in Vegas, I found myself doing a lot of walking and was in need of a good pair of walking shoes, so off to the outlet stores we went. Yay...a Sketchers store filled with lots of great shoes...my eyes almost popped out of my head at the low prices! I got myself a great pair of sketchers for $69.00, what a difference in price! They really do live up to all the advertising about them. They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn and I'm enjoying the fact that while walking they do tend to align my spine more correctly, eliminating the fatigue I often feel in my lower spine after walking for long distances.
I can see why they promote the shoes as a great way to enhance "weight loss". It's not the shoes that promote weight loss, it's the fact that you are more comfortable walking, there fore you walk more!
Last weekend, while out and about with my hubby, we came across a shoe sale and decided to see what the sketchers were on sale for here in Canada...yep, great sale price $199.99! Some how I'm thinking on any future trips to the states...I'll be buying shoes.

My positives:
A lovely evening at home with my Valentine.
Chats with both my girls yesterday.
Long weekend coming up...Monday is a civic holiday "Family Day" (I get the day off, Garry has to work...go figure!)
Spark friends, who are more on the ball than I am and left me lovely "goodies" yesterday...Thank you for thinking of me.
I'm learning and growing, working on being open and flexible. Letting the small stuff go and embracing the challenges as opportunities.
Friends, Family and God's guidance in my life.

Have a wonderful Tuesday, shine your light brightly in your corner of the world.

Hugs,
Wanda

I'm delighted for you. What a win! :-)
Can't seem to get them in my size, which is aggravating, even if I could afford them, which I can't. Shame, because if they are as good as claimed....

Happy Tuesday to you Wanda! I'm adjusting to my new (old) monitor. I was trying to make it easier to see, but with that setting all the color is drained from your page! Very bleak when all is black and white.
Have a colorful day and I am glad to know that I can get sneakers cheaper here in the states. When I come visit, I'll be sure to bring my walking shoes.
Love you.
Nancy

I am so in agreement with you! I have 3 pairs of sketchers and am trying to figure out how to incorporate them into my formal events! LOL. I was off balance at first, but now in "plain" shoes, I actually hurt! Keep Sparkin'!!!
