We had a terrific speaker at our Professional Dev. Day yesterday. Brenda Robinson...she spoke on "Laughter in the work place". Incredible message and what an upbeat message. She has learned to not only laugh at herself, but to share that laughter with everyone around her. She works from the position of three philosophies. 1) (which escapes me at the moment) 2)If you will laugh about it later, why are you waiting? 3) Share your story with eight laughing friends. Laughter is truly the best medicine. When we laugh, we learn better as our brain opens and expands. The stats are very interesting. A baby laughs on average 87 times a day, even their own laughter makes them laugh. A 3-6 year old laughs about 63 times a day, they are already becoming serious about life. A teenager laughs about 47 times a day, most of which are at someone. As adults we laugh about 14 times a day and that is on a good day! As we get older we tend to think that laughing means that we aren't taking like things seriously or that we aren't being mature. How many times to do you recall as a young person being told by someone in authority " stop fooling around", "quit your giggling" "this isn't a laughing matter", or just "stop laughing"?

Make today a day for finding your funny bone and just outright expressing your laughter.

My positives:
Laughter, it's a great way to turn your life around.
Having a positive attitude.
It's the weekend and Garry doesn't have to work today either.
We are going to admire Festival of the Trees today. These are trees that companies, groups or individuals decorate and then display at a venue for others to bid on. The monies is then donated to charities and the winning bidder goes home with a lovely decorated tree.
Our random act of kindness yesterday blessed someone's day and in turn greatly blessed ours.
I'm excited about living.

Have a wonderful day, laugh and have fun in your life.

Hugs,
Wanda

Professional Dev. day at work...

Friday, December 03, 2010

Today, it's Professional Dev. Day at work. I get to go in an hour later and of course stay longer also. It's a time for us to honor long time employees, to hear what is on the agenda for the next year and to pat ourselves on the back for a job well done in the past year. We'll have time to also attend workshops geared towards our related fields and just get the opportunity to spend time with other staff that we might not see on a regular basis.

Looks like it snowed a bit again last night, so I'll be out the door to do some shoveling in a few minutes.

My Positives:

PD day at work.
It's Fabulous Friday.
A weekend to look forward to.
Lots of Christmas crafts and bake sales happening this weekend, so might have the opportunity to pick up some special items.
I'm half way through my online course.
I have Garry's truck to take to work this morning.
I am blessed in so many ways.

Have a Fabulous Friday, toot your own horn and let the world know just how wonderful you are.

Hugs,
Wanda

The shovel appears again!

Thursday, December 02, 2010

The shovel will need to make it's appearance once again! It started snowing last night and snowed most of last night, so before even getting out of the driveway for work this morning...it's shovel time!
The temperatures are not too bad out there and the wind is minimal, so shouldn't be too bad as I burn some calories.

I'll take Garry's truck to work this morning as he doesn't want to have to get up when I do. He'll have someone pick him up for work this morning. My vehicle is sold. Tomorrow, I get to start work a bit later as it's PD day at work and that means I have to stay later so Garry will drop me off at work.

I got rid of my shaggy dog look yesterday at the hair dresser's and am feeling like a new person. I just had a cut. I decided to wait until after the new year to change my streak of color. I couldn't make up my mind what I wanted this time around, so why not wait. Perhaps a streak of two colors who knows...I'll just be adventuresome and see! *grin*

My Positives:
Burning calories this morning shoveling snow.
Hair cut...yay!
PD Day at work tomorrow.
A healthy body.
Headache is gone. Bigger YAY!
Lost my security card yesterday, but someone found it and turned it in at the grocery store. That was a major blessing. The Angels delivered!
A new day to be creative in....what am I going to create in my day today!
God, who continues to bless this family.

Have a wonderful Thursday...thank your body for supporting you and give it a treat by exercising it.

Hugs,
Wanda

Beautiful positives! I hope today is full of them, too! Shoveling is a great way to burn calories and it's non-negotiable for the most part. Most areas south and east of me have gotten 2-3 feet of snow with driving bans abound. We escaped it here and only have a dusting, just 5 miles away, but I'm sure our good luck will run out soon. Stay safe, and warm, and have a great Friday!

We were supposed to have a possibility of flurries during the night, but I didn't see any. I did dig the big scraper out and put it by the backdoor to put in the car today. I have to face it - winter is here.

On the other hand, shoveling is a great aerobic exercise. It is the slipping on the ice that I can't stand. LOL

Have a great day.

December 1st

Wednesday, December 01, 2010

Just a reminder....it's only 25 days until Christmas! Yikes, what a thought. I'm still waiting for an item to arrive in the mail so that I can add it to the parcel that I need to send off. I've had notice that it's been shipped so trusting that it will arrive this week.

I went to bed last night with a headache and woke up this morning with an even worse one. We had a really bad "gas" smell at work yesterday and they haven't been able to trace it's origin. My headache started at work. I avoid taking any medication if possible and thought that just by going to bed it would get better. Unfortunately that didn't work...I should have taken something and then I could have slept off the effects, now I need to take something and struggle through the day with the side effects. My own fault...you would think I would know better after all these years. Medications and I don't mix, hence my reluctance to taking any. Having woken up with the headache this morning, just assures me that it is not tension or stress, but having breathed in the chemical smell for too long yesterday. It has settled into all my body and will have to work it's way out. I will need to wear my respirator mask today if the smell has not disappeared. Oh Joy!

Bright spot of my day...I get my hair cut! Having someone else massage my head as they wash my hair...now that is something to look forward too *grin*.

My positives:

Hair cut today.
I can go to bed early tonight.
I know why I have a headache...and it's not stress related! lol
I have my mobility and generally a healthy body.
I'm blessed with wonderful friends and family.
Fresh fruit for breakfast.
Being alive.

Life really is wonderful, believe it and claim it.

Hugs,
Wanda

Ah, nothing like a head massage. I love that too, when I go to get my hair cut. Sorry you are under the weather. I hope the chemicals dissipate from your body soon. Can't be too careful with that stuff these days. Happy December 1!

Nov 30

My MIL's birthday today, I must remind Garry to give her a call.

I enjoyed my day of not having to be at work yesterday. I spent most of the day putting around the house and then reading. It felt so good to just be and to just relax.
I emailed the company that I wish to return an item to. Now I am waiting for them to respond with and "authorization number" so that I can send the item back.
One Friday, we have a Professional Development Day at work. We are closed to the public, but it's mandatory that we all attend. It sounds like this years PDday will be an interesting one. It's a time when we honor long time employees and reflect on our past year of service as well as look to what the next year has in store for us. Set our goals of service etc. This year we have accomplished some major milestones. It will be a longer day at work for me, but then I don't have to go in at my usual time, so it all balances out.
Garry sold my vehicle once again yesterday. I will have it to drive for a couple more days and then will have to see what else I get to drive on a temporary basis. This one, I had just over 1 month! lol. I keep saying, it's cause the Universe has something better in store for me. *grin* I have been blessed to have had the opportunity to drive many different vehicles during our married life. It keeps life interesting when you never know what you'll be driving next.

My positives:
Knowing how things always have a way of working out. Not that they always work out the way I want, but they do work out.
Being adaptable, the older I get, the more adaptable I become...love it!
That I am open to learning, growing and for me the big one "receiving".
Having awesome people in my life.
Knowing that although life doesn't always following the plan that I have, the new route is usually much more fun.

Have a wonderful day, be flexible and learn to go with the flow.

Hugs,
Wanda

Thanks for the boost and the smile. You sound like some vehicle gourmet or something. Change your vehicles like your underwear. Thanks for being such a fine support. It really helps me find my center. Have a wonderful Wednesday.
Love,
Nancy

I really like your positive reflections for today. It reminds me that, and makes me appreciate that, I am taking a much broader and more flexible view of life, too. Ah, yes, and that feels mighty good indeed! emoticon

Wanda, just think of the switch in vehicles as "try-out" periods...Wouldn't that be fun? I actually have done that - rented a car about which I was thinking to buy...so I would try it out and decide. Was worth the investment.

Have a wonderful evening!
