Long weekend is over and it's back to work.

Tuesday, September 07, 2010

Heigh ho, heigh ho, it's off to work I go!

Next long weekend for Canadians is Thanksgiving weekend in October! I'm sure it will be here faster than we think too!
These next few weeks are going to be crazy for us at work. We close our doors to the library at the end of this month and then will be spending the month of October moving everything to our brand new building! Woo Hoo! We are so excited to finally be seeing 5 years of planning coming to fruitation. We will be doubling our present size to 67,000 square feet. Finally some room! We are not an archival library, so that means that most of our material that we supply to our patrons is "new" material. We will be introducing two new formats when we open our doors on November 1st...Blu-rays and e-Books. We have one of the best Dvd collections going outside of our local video stores. Our collection of Dvd's is presently sitting at 10,000 copies. Something we are pretty proud of for a library. We are excited to now be offering the collection in Blu-ray format to accompany our Dvd collection. We will have more program rooms and our winter programs are already booking up. It will be wonderful to be able to accommodate more patrons instead of saying "sorry, we are full". Yep, it's an exciting time, but also stressful.

My positives:

A great visit with our friends.
Sunshine mostly yesterday...not the predicted rain that was supposed to happen.
A short work week.
A good night's sleep last night, I'm feeling energized this morning. Probably helps that I've had a couple of days off to recharge.
Lots of small green tomatoes on my plants...I'm praying!
God, who loves me and guides me.

Have a wonderful day. To all those heading back into a work week...we are already ahead of the game, only 4 work days this week! lol

Holiday Monday and all set to enjoy the day.

Monday, September 06, 2010

Holiday Monday of the Labor day weekend. Our friends arrived yesterday for overnight. Garry, Rod and Hazel headed out to the golf course for a quick 9 holes of golf before coming back to a meal of fresh garden potatoes (roasted), green beans and garlic (roasted) and veggie burgers on the grill. Even whipped together a nice salad with some cranberries tossed in. A nice healthy meal for all of us.

Today they will be heading back home to BC, a 10 hours drive ahead of them, so we are all up bright and early. This evening Garry and I will be attending a 60th wedding anniversary celebration for my aunt and uncle. Should be a good time as many of the people we haven't seen for awhile.

My positives:

Getting together with friends and family, always a nice time.
Looks like we might get some sunshine today, we had some yesterday, lots of wind to go with too!
A short work week.
Holidays to look forward to at the end of this month. I get to take a week off from Sept 24th to October 4th. Yay.
Enjoying life.

Have a great day, remind yourselves of all the reasons you have chosen to become healthier...keep your focus.

Serenity Sunday, ahhhhh!

Sunday, September 05, 2010

Woke up to a gentle peacefulness this morning. The birds outside were actually quiet, there is no wind, just a quietness about the morning that is very peaceful.Ahhhhh!

Garry, Shy and I had a great day together yesterday. Kaeli tested Shy to say that she arrived safe and sound in Kamloops and was having a great time, so all is well in my world.

We had some little sprinkles of rain yesterday and it looks like we might get more today. Our temperatures are certainly on the fall side of things. Our friends arrive sometime this morning on their way back to BC. It will a short but sweet visit once again.

Garry, Rod and Hazel had talked about heading out for a game of golf...not sure if that is still happening or not. I'm not a golfer, but I'm okay with them heading out to chase a ball.

My Positives:

A wonderful day spent with Garry and Shy yesterday.
So far the frost at night has held off.
Bought a new tea kettle...love it! This one is on a swivel base and is glass so you can see through on both sides. The element is not exposed so no worries about the minerals in the water corroding it. That's what happened to the last one.
Got our Costco renewal slip in the mail and almost enough to pay for next years membership...we only have to pay $6.00! Woo Hoo. We knew we hadn't purchased as much this year as in past years so didn't think we would have earned as much as we did towards our membership.
Although I had a difficult time falling asleep last night, I had a good sleep.
A new day to look forward to and enjoy.

Have a wonderful serenity Sunday,

Silly Saturday and I'm going to have fun!

Saturday, September 04, 2010

Silly Saturday and its going to be a fun day!

Garry has the day off work also and Shy is coming over this morning and we are heading into the city for a day of window shopping (and shopping) and just letting the day unfold before us. Our expectations are for a fun day together and I'm sure that is exactly what we'll have.

Yesterday, Garry and I made our way around to some of the stores here that were having sales happening. I picked up some more canning supplies. Yay, more canning in my future. lol. I borrowed a great canning book from the library and am filled with lots of great ideas of more things to can! I am so enjoying getting back into canning. This year will be not so cost effective, as I had gotten rid of all my jars and canning things and they have to be replaced. But just knowing that I'll have it all in place for next year and through out the year as foods come into season will be great. As well, knowing that the foods I'm serving my family are fresher and healthier.

The sad news of yesterday, Garry's co-worker Al's wife passed away yesterday morning at 9:15. Thank you to all of you who lifted the family in your prayers. Bonnie passed peacefully from what Al has said. She was able to open her eyes and smile at her 13 year old grandson as well as speak to a friend that was there just before passing. I'm so grateful that she was at peace. Please think of the family as they prepare for Bonnie's funeral and all that is entailed over the next few days.

We had a cool day yesterday temperature wise, but woo hoo...SUNSHINE! I keep looking out at my tomatoes and praying that they have enough days to develop fully and grow. I made some egg salad yesterday and got to use fresh green onions out of my garden. It was so much fun. I'm still amazed at myself at how much I've been enjoying the gardening and canning thing.! lol

My positives:

Bills are all paid for the month.
Shy is coming over today and she and her Dad and I are spending the day together having fun.
Bonnie's peaceful passing.
Canning supplies on sale, yay, more jars!
Our friends are arriving for overnight tomorrow.
60th wedding anniversary celebration to attend on Monday.
Life...we are so blessed.

Have a wonderful Silly Saturday. Let your inner child out to play.

Ahhhh, a sleep in day...

Friday, September 03, 2010

What a great way to start my day today...sleeping in. I have today off work and instead of getting up at 4:30 am, I was able to sleep in until 7am. I almost think I could get used to not getting up until 7am! lol

It appears that we might actually have some sunshine today...YAY! I was out checking on my tomatoes yesterday and boy do they need some warm weather to finish growing. I've got lots of tiny little tomatoes trying desperately to grow. If we get some nice weather, I just might be able to harvest some of them. At least I can take comfort in the fact that my tomatoes are not the only ones that are struggling. Everyones gardens this year have been struggling. Too much damp and too little sun this summer have really taken their toll on those of us who do not have heated green houses. One day, I will have my heated green house and then watch me grow stuff! lol

Garry has today off work and although I have laundry and house work to do and he is still whaffling about whether to go golfing with his BIL, we just might end up having a lazy day together.

My positives:

I subscribed to a great magazine yesterday "Spirituality and Health". I don't usually subscribe to magazines as we carry so many at work that I can borrow, but this one seems to always have articles in it that I want to keep.
A day off work today.
Garry has the day off as well.
Looks like sunshine could be a big part of the day...maybe the temperatures will allow us to wander around without a jacket too!
A sleep in morning....might even fit a nap in later too! lol
Having internet connections that allow me to communicate with friends and family.
Borrowed a new "canning" book from the library yesterday that has some very interesting canning recipes in it. Just might have to give them a try!
Being alive to enjoy all that God provides for us and blesses us with.

Have a wonderful Fabulous Friday.
