It is so quiet this morning. The wind has finally stopped blowing and the lack of noise has made things so very quiet! Love it!
Skies are overcast and the temperature is down to the single digits...brrrrrr. I'm resisting turning the furnace back on, it's just not right that I have to have the furnace turned back on before October! It reminds me that we had to turn the furnace on in June and that is just wrong for this time of year! It's extra sweaters for us today in the house. lol
I used my pressure cooker for the first time yesterday to do my beets. Now either it was because I never noticed when I bought my beets at the market that they had already had the leaves trimmed off, there fore they bled alot when pre heating them in order to slip the skins off easily. Or because of my trial and error of using the pressure canner for the first time, caused so much color to come out of the beets that it looks like I have white beets in red juice now! Oh well, I still have 2 pints and 1 quart of beets to use this winter in borcsht. Might have to add some fresh beets to the mixture but that is okay. I did not can my green beans, I've decided that I'm going to cut them up and freeze them instead.
I did get all the laundry done yesterday and then phoned Shyra to see if she wanted to come and help me find a baby gift. Yay, shopping with Shy, always so much fun. We found the cutest little outfit for Jaidyn in 9month size, so she'll be able to wear it for awhile. Kaeli is leaving on Thursday after work to head to Kamloops BC, so she will take it with her.
Shy and I spent the afternoon together and had a great time. I love that my kids like to spend time with Mom. I'm so proud of each of them. They are such unique people and so very interesting to talk with.
Got my beets done, took on the challenge of a pressure cooker, it was a little daunting, but the next time will be easier.
Got a baby gift for Jaidyn.
I don't have to worry about mailing it...Kaeli is traveling there next week.
No wind blowing, at least as yet.
Serenity Sunday and Garry is home to spend the day with.
Going to the bulk barn later today to stock up on spices...I love going there. I love experimenting with different spices when I'm cooking.
Thanks for stopping by for a visit. Enjoy your day.

Woke up to see our back gate, which is big and heavy wide open. It's never open, but I guess with all the wind we have been having, it managed to wiggle the gate enough that the latch let loose! Very disconcerning to see the gate standing wide open this morning.
The wind has certainly been a fact in the past couple of days. One of my co-workers was unable to make it to work yesterday due to the fact that the wind had blown a huge tree down over top of her car. Saw some pictures of it on facebook, it was one huge tree!
Today, my list of chores to attempt to get done include, canning of beets and green beans, laundry, housecleaning, and purchasing a gift for Kaeli to take next week on her trip to Kamloops BC to see one of the new babies in our family.
A busy day, but it should be a productive day.
Waking up to sunshine this morning...in other words I didn't get up until 7am!
It's the weekend.
I had a really good sleep last night, must have, as I never heard the back gate opening at all!
A new day of life to be creative in.
Having the means to can fresh veggies.
Lunch with Shyra yesterday.
Being able to sit out on my deck during a lull in the wind yesterday and enjoy the sun and the sound of the leaves blowing (gently).
Have a wonderdul Silly Saturday, let your inner child out to play and enjoy the opportunity to live in the moment.

Another Fabulous Friday has descended upon us and the last one for the month of August. It's hard to believe that 2010 is over half way done already!
The big thunderstorm warnings for last night seem to have skirted us, we do however have some big winds blowing out there. The winds started about 7:30 last evening and are still blowing this morning. I should probably check outside to see if we are still in the same location!lol
My cat is sitting here beside this morning as I eat my bowl of cereal. She is being very hopeful that I will leave her a drop of milk when I'm done. Her eyes watch every spoonful I take as if daring me to eat it all without sharing. It's the only time that she will beg, when you she sees you with a bowl in your hands. She is quite amusing, You almost feel guilty eating.
A lovely weekend to look forward to. I've got some canning on my agenda, house cleaning and not much else.
Kismet (the cat) who provides so much amusement and love. I say the word love with caution, as she is not a cuddler or one who likes you to touch her without her permission. She has taught me alot though about communication.
A very successful meeting yesterday morning at work. We were able to get assistance in setting up our import portion into our system from our vendor. We should be able to tranfer the information over to setting up with our other vendors now. YAY! work load has just become lighter!
It's Friday, my favorite day of the week.
A good nights sleep last night, no one outside waking me up in the early hours of the morning with shouting. I always have such a difficult time getting back to sleep once I've been woken up. I'm such a light sleeper, I think it is probably a carry over from when my kids were little and the mother's ear was always on duty. Our son was extremely ill for the first 4 years of his life. It's become a habit to wake at the least little sound.
I'm content and happy,
Have a wonderful Friday...keep on moving forward. Thanks for stopping by for a visit.

We had a glorious day of sunshine yesterday. Supposed to have one more today, then thunderstorms to roll in by this evening and another week of rain ahead...sigggghhh! The blessing of all this rain....we are no longer in a drought in our area, we don't have to worry about fires, our water table is now restored, and I don't need to water my garden...it's watered naturally.
Successful day at the market...picked up some lovely beets for canning and some green beans. My weekend is planned! Now I'll be done until I get some tomatoes.
I have an early morning meeting at work to start my day off and then a basket full of things to do. I'm grateful for a job that keeps me busy.
Hearing...I love listening to my wind chimes as they move with the wind.
Sight...to view the beauty that lies around me each day.
Life...the opportunity that is given to me each day to be the best that I can be.
Farmers market for providing me with beautiful fresh veggies that not only can we eat fresh, but I can prepare for winters meals.
Work...to keep me busy and provide a way of meeting our needs.
Friends and Family....who offer me support, comfort, encouragement and love.
Have a wonderful blessed day, enjoy being alive.

Since discovering the delights of farmers market on Wednesdays, my week now revolves around all the lovely fresh produce and other other culinary delights that I can pick up there. I especially love this time of year when people are harvesting from their gardens and selling the items that I have as yet not attempted to grow in my own garden.
This year, Garry built me a lovely raised garden in the backyard, next year we will be adding to it. In fact, if time allows (and money) we will begin the construct of the framework this fall. I'm so enjoying getting back into canning and by heading to the farmers market and seeing all the lovely things there in the way of produce, I'm inspired to plant even more things for next year. It's exciting to grow your own fresh veggies and herbs. You don't need a big garden, as I've found that many of the things that I grow only require a container! I love that I can grow my potatoes in containers. How wonderful it is to just up end the pot at the end of the growing season and woo hoo, there are all your potatoes! No digging required! The dirt, I will rotate for next year so that my potatoes have a fresh supply of nutrients that they need to be productive. I'm learning so much as I fumble along.
Our aim is to be more self-sufficient and produce most of our own veggies (without chemicals). It is a work in progress, much like I am. The more I grow in my garden, the more I want to grow.
Yay, I got more canning completed. I have all my pickles done, now it's on to other staples.
Posted the requested pictures of my (so far) accomplishments. Maybe it will inspire others, the same way Bre and Marie, inspired me to begin gardening.
It's Farmers Market day.
I had a good sleep last night.
So delighted with my success on my potato container gardening. I had a pot that the plant just died and I thought had probably not produced anything in it. I dumped it over yesterday and surprise! I got 25 nice fist size potatoes out of one container....I'm ecstatic. I'm very hopeful that the other container that I have planted will produce likewise. The nice thing is, I don't have to harvest them until I need them. I'm inspired to plant a couple of different varieties of potatoes now next year. Amazing what a little patch of garden can produce! I'm throwing out a challenge to all the team....plant a small garden in container...even if it's only some potatoes. Amaze yourselves .
I'm so grateful for being inspired to produce some of my own veggies.
A new day, a new opportunity to be all that I can be.
Friends and family.
Have an awesome day, rejoice in the fact that you are alive.
