Farmer's Market day

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Farmer's Market day today. We have company arriving also for a couple of days. Thankfully, I'm able to get tomorrow off work, unfortunately, Garry isn't able to get tomorrow off. Oh well. If my company arrives early enough, I'll haul them along to Farmer's Market with me. I want to pick up some more fresh veggies for canning.
I noticed at the last market that there were fresh peas, all ready shelled and in in large bags. I want to pick up some to freeze. I like the freshness of peas that are frozen as opposed to canning them.

My positives:

Being able to take tomorrow off work to spend with company.
Seeing friends and sharing laughs.
Having the ability to can, so that my family will have produce this winter that is healthy for them.
Taking one of my breaks yesterday and walking. It was nice to have a co-worker join me. I have set a goal for myself this year of taking my breaks at work, something that I usually forget to do!
A nice fresh fruit salad for my lunch today.
Life in general. My life is so wonderfully blessed each day.

Have a great day. Take the time to appreciate each moment, you never know what nuggets of blessing each one might hold until you look for it.

Hugs,
Wanda

I enjoyed envisioning the little pea people peeking out of the plastic bag at you. "Pick me! Pick me!" Enjoy the beauty of the market. I have yet to discover a nice farmer's market. I saw one advertised not too far from me on Thursday evenings. I think I'll check it out tomorrow. I must tell you that Ms. Wood makes accommodations for the vegetarian and vegan types. The cleanse just has you eliminate top vegetarian allergens for the duration. No dairy, eggs, soy, nut, nut butters and seeds. You add more beans and lentils for the cleanse and for vegans you add more starchy vegetables and legumes. It works as an elimination diet as well, so you add those foods back in slowly and carefully noting the effects. She is very accommodating.
Peas are okay. They are not on my specific menu, but they are not on the "don't eat me" list.
Enough food talk. Have a great day. Thanks for the support and I'll keep my eye out for you.
Love,
Nancy emoticon

Wanda, have fun at the farmers' market and with your visitors!

I LOVE fresh peas! Got lots of them earlier this season at my CSA! I even eat them raw...love the snap, crackle, pop of them!! Hope they have them today...

I got sweet potato leaves at my CSA last evening...can't wait to find out how to prepare them and what the flavor is.

Hugs!

The early mornings are chilly already!

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Temperatures are already beginning to drop overnight. Car windows are covered with dew and there is a nip in the air. Each year, it seems I am less ready to embrace the long cold winter months. Yet, here I dwell, so once again, I will need to adjust my attitude about winter and be grateful for all that winter brings with it. It's almost as much work as choosing a healthy lifestyle! lol

Had a good study group evening last night. It seems like our little group, might finally settle on being five of us. I'm okay with the small group as it allows more time to hear each others thoughts and questions.

My Positives:

Our good friends from BC arrived tomorrow.
I have Thursday off to spend with our company.
Farmers Market tomorrow evening also...yay, I get to buy more fresh veggies for canning.
A busy, but not rushed day ahead of me at work.
Not being rushed this morning...means my day flows better.
The support and encouragement that I receive from friends and family.
God.

Thank you for stopping by for a visit. Have a wonderful day.

Hugs,
Wanda

I don't want cold temps, but the last couple days of cooler temps have been so refreshing after all the heat and humidity, but they're saying the heat and humidity will be back towards the end of the week, so me thinks we still have a few more weeks of hot summertime. I also like the smaller study groups, I think you can get more out of it. Enjoy your time with your company.

Wanda, if we could trade a few degrees, we might both like the temps! Opposite problem here...and the air is so heavy this morning that I found it difficult to breathe! Worry about all those people with pulmonary disorders and the elderly with this humidity.

Enjoy your guests and the farmers' market! I get to pick up my veggies at the CSA this eve! Always a surprise when I arrive there!

Tossing you big hugs!

The short summer will not be kind to those baby tomatoes! Better pick some up at the farmer's market tonight.
I am so grateful to you for your faithfulness to your Spark Team and to me. It is a real blessing; you are a real blessing. Just stopping by your blog each day gives me encouragement to continue to treat myself well.
Chilly burns calories. That's my encouragement to you for today.
Have a great day and enjoy the beauty of the vegetables this evening.
Love,
Nancy

August 16

Monday, August 16, 2010

I'm on the run this morning. I woke up and almost turned over to go back to sleep when I felt the urge to look at the clock....Yikes my alarm didn't go off! I've slept almost 30 minutes longer than I should have. So this morning is a bit of a scramble to at least get the basics done before heading out the door for work.

My positives:

Tuning in to the nudges that caused me to look at the clock this morning instead of rolling over and going back to sleep.
That despite being rushed this morning...my spirit is at ease.
A wonderful weekend with family and friends.
A great visit with Q's young lady yesterday. Loved the opportunity to get to know her better.
We are suppposed to get sunshine this week....yay!
That I have a job that will allow me a few minutes this morning to complete my sparking duties. I got to go now.

Have an awesome day...
Hugs.

Ahhhh Serenity Sunday!

Sunday, August 15, 2010

A day to rest and recharge my batteries before heading into a new work week. Although it will be a 4 day work week for me, my day off comes on a Thursday. We have company arriving the evening of the 18th and staying for the day on the 19th, leaving the morning of the 20th. It will be nice to see them and it will put a nice break into my week. Although having to get up on the 20th for work will be strange, as I'll have to be up and gone before anyone else is even awake. It will all work out though.

I had a lovely phone call yesterday from our Nancy. Bless your heart for making my day even brighter.

Our company from the weekend left late Saturday afternoon to head to Red Deer and spend some time with Garry's other brother. It was sure nice to see his sisters.

Another raining looking day outside. We really need some sunshine if I'm going to actually have any tomatoes to pick off all my plants. The tiny wee little tomatoes that are beginning to form now are going to need heat to really become a useful product. I'm so looking forward to making salsa, tomato sauce and canned tomatoes.

My Positives:

A great family visit.
Friends arriving on Wednesday.
A phone call from Nancy.
Shyra got a job that she had applied for at the library. It means that she has a job with enough hours to qualify for benefits. She has been working two jobs at the library, but neither one of them had enough hours in either position to qualify her for benefits. Now, even though she will be still working two positions, one of the positions has more hours. YAY!
As I celebrated my 3 anniversary mark with Spark...it's awesome to know that I am so much further along my journey to health that I was three years ago. Not to my goal yet....but I'm okay with that, cause I'm not where I used to be.
Be blessed with internet access and all the support and encouragement I need.

Have a wonderful Serenity Sunday everyone.

Hugs,
Wanda

Ahhhhhh, I can feel the serenity. Thanks for passing it on. I have spent my morning taking a walk, taking a swim, enjoying a healthy frappe and getting dinner prepared so that my kitchen work is light the afternoon. I wish I could send you some of this warm Texas sunshine for your tomatoes. It's another sunny, sultry day here. Thanks for counting me as a blessing. You know that I consider you one of mine as well. Have a great Sunday. I'm going to chick out this week's challenge.
Love,
Nancy

Late night....results in need for more sleep!

Saturday, August 14, 2010

Oh boy, a very late night last night, but lots of fun.
Garry's sisters arrived, then the kids with their girl/boy friends as well as our other honorary son (Q's best friend). What a blast. Due to it raining once again, Garry was able to BBQ supper, but we all gathered in the garage to eat and that is where we ended up spending the rest of the night. So much fun, lots of laughter. Quin brought out his guitar and the singing started, we just pretended that we had a campfire going in the center.
We ended up with a couple of Q's fellow guides from the lodge joining us as they were on their break time also. Not sure what the neighbors thought of all the laughter and singing that was going on at our normal exceptionally quiet home, but as Garry said...we have never had a garage party in the 7 years we have been here and if they wanted to join us they could too!

I have a bit of a headache going from lack of sleep (No...I don't drink...so it is not the culprit...can't say the same for others though!). I was up for work yesterday morning at 4:30 am and that made for a very long day and night...let's just say not quite a 24 hour day. lol

My Positives:

Got my beets canned.
Company and a great time.
Having the kids and their friends join us and stay the whole evening was wonderful.
Lots of reminiscing, lots of silly laughs.
A day for fun and relaxing ahead of me.
Family and friends.
God, who guides and leads.

Have a wonderful Silly Saturday.

Hugs,
Wanda
