Merry Ukrainian Christmas today!

Thursday, January 07, 2010

It's Ukrainian Christmas today. Although we do our major celebration in December, we still acknowledge and have a minor celebration today. This way both Garry's and my traditions are celebrated.

Yesterday, Garry was able to get the remote starter installed in my vehicle, yay...no more having to brave the cold to go out and start my vehicle. Talked about spoilt!
I do still have to brave the cold and snow though to shovel when it snows!

I discovered a great "Free step" exercise on my new Wii Fit Plus program. It allows me to do step aerobics and helps me keep track of my steps as well as my calories burned! This came in really handy yesterday as I once again forgot to get a new battery for my pedometor. At least by using the Wii, I was able to get in some extra steps without any trouble. I plan on using this as a regular part of my exercises. I'm sure glad that SP has added some of the Wii exercises to their menu.

Today, the people that installed our kitchen are bringing a new client over to look at our kitchen. They phoned to see if we would be willing to show our kitchen and all it's features. No problem....it's ready to show.

The girls go at 4:30pm today to do a walk through with their new landlord. And tomorrow we will begin moving their things. Should be getting lots of steps in then as well as some extra calories burned. Not sure yet how I will track my exercising, but I'm sure I'll figure it out.

My Positives:
My remote starter in my vehicle.
I've been doing really well at staying focused and on track.
Wii Fit Plus and it's "free step" exercise.
Garry being able to get a van from his work, so the move for the girls will be basically cost free.
Showing off my lovely new kitchen to help out the people that created it for me.
Life....it is just plain and simply wonderful.

Thanks for your visit, take this gift of today and have fun with it.

Wow...busy day! Don't you love the wii? I have been doing the wii step, the soccer (which is really hard for observation, balance and almost like kinetics), the balance as my favorites. Before I know it I have in at least 30 minutes and have gone for 3 hours once (I am very competitive). Fun!

Happy Christmas. I like to keep Christmas until Epiphany (Jan 6.) But I'll hold out for the Ukranian Christmas. I like to hold out for as long as possible. This year we're holding out for #1 son Matt's visit on January 20th. Only difficulty is the dusting will be major. Happy New Year, Happy Wii Fit, Happy New Kitchen, Happy Moving out and up day. Happy Garry Helping day and all the rest. Your cheery outlook will make every day joyous for sure. Keep sticking to what works and keep your eye on the prize. Hope to chat with you soon. Let me know a good time. I've got a phone card with your name on it. (ATT Worldwide is your new name)
Love and kisses,

Speaking of Wii Fit, my DS got it for Christmas and it told him he was obese and made his little character fat, he didn't like that, so I said "guess you better do something about that", he plans on making some changes. That is nice that you are going to let them show off your new kitchen. You'll burn those calories with that moving the girls. Enjoy the reminder of your time off.Glad you got that automatic starter installed, it will make winter a little more bearable, lol, my automatic starter is named Clenton, he's always been good about going out and starting the car if it's cold and he knows I am going some place.

Empty nest is fast approaching. My girls are busy packing and getting excited about their move this Friday to their new digs. I on the other hand am not sure I'm looking forward to not having them home every night. I'm excited for them as they get their first place together, and know that they will do fine...it's the emptiness of the house that I'm not looking forward to!

The plus side, I get to see Shy every day at work. Kaeli is still looking for work and I know that one of the applications that she has submitted with pan out soon. God knows her needs and I know that He will provide.

Garry is taking my "new" vehicle this morning to have a remote starter put into it. YAY...we sure miss just being able to start it from inside the house! Although with being on holidays these past few days has meant I didn't have to go anywhere. Work starts next week for me though and having to get up and go outside in minus 30 weather to start my vehicle before even having breakfast is not appealing. Talk about spoilt! lol
I am blessed that Garry works in the auto industry and that I always have a reliable vehicle to drive. I have learned though not to get too attached to any vehicle as every one that I drive is potentially up for sale! Makes life very interesting.

My Positives:

Remote starter being installed in my "new" vehicle. YAY.
Weather is supposed to be warmer this weekend as we move the girls and all their furniture and boxes. Only supposed to be minus 3 instead of the minus 40 it was when we moved Kaeli back to Sherwood Park.
Feeling much better today...I had some soup yesterday that didn't agree with me. Not sure what was wrong with it, but it left me feeling very poorly.
Time to read today and relax.
Life...it is so filled with blessings.

Have an awesome day, take the time today to appreciate even the negatives that occur. They are opportunities to learn and grow.

Wanda, focus on their nearness to you! I often think how difficult for my cousins whose kids live in Florida, Connecticut and Okinawa! They are especially close as a family and I know Nell has a hard time with being so far away!!

Plan, too, on using that quiet time for reading, praying, meditating...and continuing your 2010 projects!

There. Are you feeling an itty bitty better?

Don't really understand the Mom-side of the girls moving out, but I know that I was so ready to be on my own when I left for college, never came back home after that. I'm sure you know it will be a great growing experience for them. It's great that you're nearby and have such a close relationship with them! I'm sure you'll also learn to love the new empty nest - over time! God will see you through it too!

The de-cluttering continues, but great progress was made yesterday. I emptied my shredder bin twice yesterday and it's almost full again. I have much of the files transferred over to the smaller filing cabinet and much of the old files from prior 2008 shredded. My smaller filing cabinet is looking nicely organized too. I need to get myself a file box though, so that I can store all the old income files. They don't need to be in the cabinet, but they do need to be kept yet for awhile.
It's such a feeling of freedom to have this task almost complete. The old filing cabinet will go out into Garry's "new" workshop in the garage where I'm sure he'll find it very useful for storage.

Today I will continue to work on more organizing and de-cluttering. My photos are the next big project that need to be tackled....it's almost daunting, but I will get it done.

My positives:
File de-cluttering is almost complete.
Our county has organic compost pick-up, so all of my shredded paper gets recycled.
I'm on track with my nutrition and exercise, even got all my water in with some extra yesterday.
Team members who are such a great support and encouragement.
Books to read.
Blessings that come our way each and everyday.

Thank you for stopping by. It's Talking Tuesday, check out the daily challenge.

Have an awesome day,

Wanda - You're going to just love having a composter in your back yard - especially when you are able to begin using some of that 'black gold' for your deck plants! I am using you and Maurizia as my encouragement for some of the decluttering I've been getting up to as well. Heheh ... I was dancing around my new home gym and spotted things that could 'go' so I integrated that into my routine ... I've started two bags and will continue to fill them!

Yay, Mauri...it is so liberating to eliminate things from your life that no longer serve a purpose. I love that you take 3 items out of your home each day. That covers a huge area in one's life!
Tina...we really are fortunate to have a county that is "green". We have recycle stations that we can take things to ourselves if we choose (that Garry's Sunday outing! lol) The county also collects organics and trash on alternate weeks. They are huge bins. I've really noticed that our trash often doesn't even need to be picked up every second week. We recycle almost everything. I'm very aware of packaging on items I buy now also. Organics takes an amazing amount of items that I would not be able to compost in my back yard which is awesome. I'm actually looking into the possibility of purchasing a rotating compost bin for my back yard now that I'm beginning to garden somewhat!

How awesome that your county will recycle your shredded paper. Our Town doesn't pick up recyclable items curbside. They have provided drop-off places, though, but not for paper like that.

Be sure to tell us what books you're reading. Your list is always so different than the titles I'd ever encounter.

emoticon for your hard work!!! Oh, photos! My cousins with whom I've reconnected and I are planning to meet in the spring...I am bagging up all the photos from my grandmother & mother and mine...and buying boxes at the dollar store...and we are going to sort them by family! Can't wait to do that!!!

In the meantime, you've inspired me to stick to my goal of eliminating 3 things daily - and this is day 5 of doing that! There certainly is freedom in that!!!

Freedom comes with De-cluttering!

Monday, January 04, 2010

I'm still on holidays for another week. It feels odd not to be heading out the door for work with the rest of the family. Life feels slightly out of kilter!

I will use this bonus time at home to organize my filing system. I have two file cabinets that I want to go through and downsize to one cabinet. I will at the same time, get all the tax things organized so that when it's time to do the income taxes, I at least will have everyting all in one place.

I'd like to make a start on also getting all my photos organized. I do scrapbooking and there are so many photos that need to be sorted through and decided upon for books. Some of the photos, I will scan into my computer for future projects, others I will discard due to quality, and others I will have ready so that I can complete the 5 books that I presently have on the go!

Once the girls and all their stuff is gone, I will then have room to haul out my doll collection and plate collection and go through them. My interests have changed and I have had these collections packed away for several years. It's time to make some decisions as to which ones, if any, I really want to keep and which ones I will sell.

Can you tell that I'm in a De-clutter mode once again????

My Positives:

Time off work to concentrate on some much needed organization at home.
The freedom that comes with getting rid of things that no longer server me.
Finding new homes for the items that may not serve me, but still have value to someone else.
My family.
God in my life.

Thanks for your visit today. Take this day and run with it. Enjoy the blessing of life.

Thank you for your lovely comments on my blog - right back at you. I feel like I'll be using every ounce of energy available to me in order to accomplish even just some of what I have put on the back burners. I am counting on exercise and healthy nutrition to get me to the other side of it all!

It sounds like there are many of us who have decided to use the New Year to get back to many things like 'decluttering' ... I did a little in my kitchen yesterday in an effort to reorganize items I need to meal track again and a little in my spare room today in order to steal some space to set up exercise equipment! It makes you smile at the end of a session though - doesn't it ...

Weekly challenge has begun!

Sunday, January 03, 2010

January 3rd...first day of the Positive Bloggers weekly challenge has begun. This is our first weekly challenge for 2010. If you are a member of the team and haven't yet checked it out...now's the time to do it!
We are starting out with some "back to basics"...and will progress through out the year. Let's see if we can't get our participation up from last year. We have only a handful that participate on a regular basis, we have 124 members! I know that not all members are active all the time, and some join for specific reasons and participate in posts and blogs only. Creating the Daily and Weekly challenges are not always easy and it's disappointing when someone goes to all the trouble to create them and then few participate. My suggestion...if you would like to participate but aren't finding any challenges that you would like to do...then let us know. Those of us that create the challenges would be happy to incorporate your ideas. Better yet...volunteer to take over one of the challenges!

When we join together, we support and encourage each other...the Positive Blogging is vital, but so is team participation. Let's make this a successful year for everyone.

Okay...rant is done! lol

My positives:

Kaeli's bunny, Nevi, is recovering nicely from her fall yesterday. Appears that she may have only sprained her front leg.
Although I'm not thrilled with gaining weight that I had eliminated, I'm excited to learn from the lessons. I need to track faithfully my nutrition and I need to step up my exercise once again. These were great lessons for me to learn. I also learned that by "NOT" weighing myself on a regular basis, I allowed things to get out of control.
I'm back on track.
My Christmas indoor decorations are all down, not all put away in their proper places as yet. I have to wait until the girls move out this coming weekend to have access to the storage area.
We are expecting snow flurries today....that means "exercise". I'll get to burn some extra calories! woo hoo.
I have one more week off work!
Life...I am alive!

Thank you for stopping by for a visit and listening to me rant. I promise tomorrow will be better! lol ( not the ranting, but the attitude!)

Have an awesome Serenity Sunday,

Janet...that is great that you have adjusted the weekly challenge for your success. I'm all for that! If anyone else needs to do the same, feel free...the purpose is for everyone to feel motivated and successful. Awesome!

Quite all right, Wanda. It does take a lot of time and effort to do the challenges and you want folks to participate. Sometimes we all need a reminder. It would be so awesome if even half of the team members participated. I'd love to get more ideas from more people. I learn so much by reading everyone's input, blogs, etc.

Have a Serene Sunday.

Mauri....what a wonderful comment.....I'm smiling as I think of our "words" for the year and knowing how they will help to carry us through to a more positive year. Attitude really is everything.

Ok, Wanda, I "cheated" a little on the first weekly challenges. I just adjusted them to fit my schedule to make them something I can really work at. I thought if I left on the stuff that I know I won't do, then I see a lot of 0's and things undone and that wouldn't provide much positive motivation for me. So I am going with the ones that I can truly work on and hope to have a glorious tally at the end of the week.

a couple of positives here:
a day off...
beautiful snow...
encouraging friends...

Back to the basics it is.....woo hoo.

Wanda, I didn't read this as a rant...I just interpreted it as ENCOURAGEMENT to our team members to CONNECT and be TENACIOUS and INDUSTRIOUS about this team NOW. If we all FFOCUS (there's an extra "f" for Janet in there) on our participation, we will have an AWESOME year!

(Okay...did I miss anyone's word of the year? Sorry if I did...)

What fun to try to use everyone's word!!! Try it!

Blessings! Glad bunny didn't get too hurt...Gracie has a cold...so funny that she sneezes like a human!! emoticon
