Dec 21...The shortest day of the year!

Monday, December 21, 2009

Yay, we have finally made it to the shortest day of the year...why does this make me glad, you might ask. Because it's cause for celebration...I have made it through the darkest days to this point and from now on the days start to get longer and that means more light! We have officially turned the corner are heading towards longer days(more light). Now that is cause for celebration in my world. (and Mauri's).

This weekend seemed to go by so rapidly. Saturday evening's company was enjoyable and the girls enjoyed the opportunity to meet their new landlords in a relaxed atmosphere. It looks like it might be about mid January now when they get possession, which is alright with all of us. (mostly Mom, who is not looking forward to being an empty nester!)

Quin made it home safe and sound from Medicine Hat. Thank you for your prayers.

We got more snow, but not so unmanageble amount that we couldn't keep up with the shoveling.

Only two more days of working and then I'm off on holidays for a few days. I love my job, but I'm looking very forward to having a break.

Today, I hope to finish all my Christmas shopping and can then start wrapping things and making a delightful scene under the tree. I love being creative with wrapping things and making them look so pretty. Not that it lasts...Christmas morning all that creativity greats torn apart...but it's fun to watch everyone's faces as they find out what is inside.

Guess I've kinda listed my positives already! So I'll just say, thank you for stopping by and may you have a wonderfully blessed day. Remember it's not the cost of the gift that matters, it's whether you have chosen to give from the heart.

Have an awesome day,
Hugs,
Wanda

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Saturday, December 19, 2009

Got up this morning to snow falling. Yep, it's not just gentling coming down either, it's really snowing out there. YAY...I get to burn more calories shoveling. I'm just hoping it will stop before all our company begins arriving this evening.

Quin had to go to Medicine Hat this weekend for some training courses. I'm just trusting the Lord that he will have travel mercies back home again tomorrow.

Plans for doing some final Christmas shopping may have to wait now until next week. We'll take care of the necessities for this weekend and worry about the rest later. When it's snowing like this, I don't like driving in it.

I need to try and get my annual "new year's" letter done while I have a few days off. I have given up on doing Christmas cards...I just never have the time to get them done before Christmas and found that the stress of not getting them done was something that I could change. Now I do a "new years" letter, filling friends and family in on the happenings in our lives over the past year and have found that everyone seems to enjoy receiving it. With December being such a busy month for me at work with year end budgets etc, finding this comprimise has really worked for me. Where there is a will, there is a way!

My positives:

Only two more work days next week and then it's Holiday time for me!
Lots of get togethers with various friends and family planned for the Christmas season.
A get together this evening....meeting some new people for me.
Yes, it's snowing...not my favorite thing...but the bonus...I get to burn some extra calories, especially helpful seeing as we have a get together tonite.
My girls are home to help me out getting things ready.
Garry has today off to help out also.
Shy's birthday was great.
Life.

Thank you for stopping by and having a visit. I'm going to take some time off from posting weekly challenges until the New Year...so many of us are too busy to add the challenges into our days anyway. I'm thinking that the Daily challenges are pretty set, so if anyone wants to make comments or post in them for that particular day...feel free.
Have a wonderfully blessed Christmas.

Hugs,
Wanda

I'm on the Equator but had enough of snow just trying to fly out of the Midwest in the States... Dec 8th. It really messed up my travel. Enjoy the beauty of the snow though and the exercise in shoveling it!

Oh Wanda, I am enjoying our snow and the shoveling that is involved with it today also. We woke up to 8 inches this morning and it has been snowing all day. I shoveled my way through the neighborhood, to the post office and back while delivering mail to my elderly neighbors. Lots of great cardio especially since I shoveled both sides of the street going both directions. What fun I had in all the clean snow with everything so white and glistening!!!
Enjoy your company this evening. Love your positives. Keep counting your blessings, friend!! Praying for travel mercies for Quin.
Blessings and hugs,
Helen

That's a good idea to take a break from the weekly challenges till after Christmas, I'll probably still post for Serenity Sunday. Don't overdo on the shoveling. Put those girls to work for you, lol. Hope Q's travels are safe. I don't know what happened with me and my Christmas cards, at the first part of the month I was doing pretty good, but I am struggling with it now, oh well, some may not get any this year, I wish the postage would stop going up, that doesn't help. Enjoy your company this evening and the weekend and the short work week.

Hugs,
Shirl

Oh Wanda, only you can see the good in shoveling snow. Snow is a 4-letter word, ya know!! I'm wondering what is "Medicine Hat"??? A place, like a hospital or a training center or something else? I know so little about the Canadian health care system.

Celebration day in our house!

Friday, December 18, 2009

Yay, it's a celebration day in our house today. Shyra's birthday today...my baby is now 22 years old. I still signs of that delightful infant, then the little charming girl, now I mostly see a beautiful young woman. Can you tell that I'm a proud Mom! We are so blessed with our children, they are wonderful people.

It's Fabulous Friday to boot, yay...last day of the work week and time to wind things down and look forward to weekend of company and friends.
We have some people coming over tomorrow night that are clients of my hubby's. I've never met them before, so am looking forward to their visit. One of the couples will be our girls new landlords. Tomorrow will be a busy day getting prepared, but I have the girls to help out, so won't be overload.

Deanne (co-worker) and I took a fruit basket over to Geff and Sandy yesterday at noon on behalf of our social committee. Geff is doing pretty good. Not moving around too much as he is still pretty weak and needs assistance. Other than having lost quite a bit of weight he is looking good. It will be some time yet before he will be back at work though. Sandy has been able to get time off from her job to stay at home with him until after the new year, much to her relief. It was great to reassure Geff that we have been able to hire someone on temporary basis to fill in for him and that it was someone that he knows well and that we have worked with before. He feels better knowing that Barrie will be doing the job.

Must get going to work so here's my positives:

Geff is doing very well.
People have been hired to help out that we all like and know.
Shy's birthday.
Weekend to look forward to.
Warmer weather.
Life...it's just plain wonderful.

Have a great day, thanks for stopping by for a visit.

Hugs,
Wanda

Blessings and hugs,
Helen

Dec 17

Thursday, December 17, 2009

Not much to report today...and maybe that's a good thing...must mean that life is just moving along on an even keel!

Tomorrow is my baby's birthday...wow! Not sure how she got to be 22 years old...that just can't be right! lol Shy plans on celebrating her birthday with her sister (yay, Kaeli's home) and some friends. We'll have a birthday supper together and then the girls will head out for their time.
Saturday night we have some clients of Garry's coming over. This will be the first time that I have met them. I'm looking forward to meeting them. One of the couples are the girls "new" landlords, so will be an opportunity for the girls to meet them also.

My positives:
A great weekend to look forward to.
Temperatures are becoming much more reasonable. That Arctic front has decided to move somewhere else...."sorry" to where ever it's moved too!
It's Thoughtful Thursday.
The blessings that come our way each day.
Looking forward to having some holiday time....I am off work from Dec 23 to Jan 11, with only the odd day thrown in to go and open up at work and then head home again.

Have a wonderful day, make it your mission to be a blessing in someone's life today.

Hugs,
Wanda

Half way through the week!

Wednesday, December 16, 2009

Half way through the work week or as we like to call it "Hump Day". Once we've hit Wednesday the week is on the other side of the hill and going downwards.

We have interviews to conduct today and tomorrow to fill a part-time position for the next year back in our department. We need someone to do all the receiving, or at least as much as possible as Gail and I concentrate on getting ordering done over the next year. Our budgets have increased substantially for 2010 to accomodate our moving to the new building and having twice as much space to fill. YAY! I'm trusting that I will be guiding as I make my choices and that the overall outcome will be positive.

Temperatures are on their way up...the deep freeze lid has been closed! We are actually supposed to go up as high as zero tomorrow! Very abnormal. But we will drop down again next week to more average temperatures for this time of year. My vehicle is still at the shop. The battery needed to be replaced as well as the cord for the block heater. Thankfully it is all still on warranty, so no cost. The unfortunate part is that the cord for the block heater is unavailable in Canada and needs to come from the States! So I wait! The blessing....we still have other transportation to get us around.

My positives:
Kaeli has been busy doing Christmas baking for us. Bless her heart.
I've got a great handle on this year's budgets at work and it looks good for them being all spent by year end.
We are hiring assistance for receiving for 2010 at work.
Geff (co-worker) is back home now, stopped to see him yesterday for a few minutes and he is looking great. Thinner, but color is so much better.
Almost finished my Christmas shopping...just stocking fillers left to do.
God, who always is there for my guidance and support.

Have a wonderful day all, keep on moving forward and being grateful for all that you have. When you are grateful for all that you "do" have, what you "don't" have looses it's importance.

Hugs,
Wanda

Wanda, do all the cars in your area come with block heaters when you buy them or is it something you have to buy extra? Glad Kaeli is doing the baking for you...what a help that has to be. It is great to hear that Geff is back home and looking better. God has truly blessed him.
Hugs,
Helen

Happy Hump Day, Wanda! We are dependent on the State of Illinois for (tax) money at work. Since our state budget is so miserably messed up, we don't have the money we need to hire and purchase - so I am glad for you that you do have the money to do both of those things. Yeah for people who are responsible with their money - professionally and personally!
