Heart Healthy Valentine's

Part of our challenge this week was to write a blog about making this Valentine's Day a Heart healthy one...hmmmm! Seeing as chocolate is not a part of our Valentine's Day giving anyway, I thought well it's a given...we don't give chocolate. Then I really started thinking about it and decided to put some serious thought into how I could make this Valentine's Day represent Health. Here's what I have come up with.

1. Instead of going out for supper (our usual celebration), I am making a healthy supper at home and we are going to donate the money we would have spent on supper to the Heart and Stroke fundraising campaign.

2. Seeing as Valentine's Day falls on a Thursday - aquasize night, I have talked my husband into attending aquasizes with me.

3. Well, let's just say. don't be so nosey...the rest is between my Valentine and I! (who knows, we both just might be able to stay awake long enough to watch the news! )

    Totally appreciating my omelet and mango juice. Always the problem, another one would taste great too, but no more for me.
I am on my way to get exercise up and down the stairs doing laundry, my sister gave me a good tip to go switch the load to the dryer, walk back upstairs and then go back down to load the washer. Cheaper than a step machine.

I have added you to my friends and enjoyed your chocolate free Valentines ideas. Thanks for the tips. I too am hardly ever home during the day and today was a wonderful day off as we are having a snow storm.
Since I just started your success is inspiring and obviously from the picture at work you are my kind of gal.

My February Goals

Hard to believe that we have already put a month of the new year behind us.
Time to set some goals for February.
1) beat my January minutes on Spark Earth by 200 minutes.
2) eliminate 8 pounds.
3) meditate each day.

January minutes as of January 29 2090. I will update this January 31 so I know what my exact minutes were for January.
I am already almost half way to my yearly goal that I set using SP calculations. Woo Hoo. I plan on surpassing the yearly goal, perhaps by the end of February....yep it's possible.
I am so enjoying this challenge. It has really motivated me to put in my active time as well as not skip my strength training.

Procrastination challenges met...

This week I had a procrastination challenge to meet, to complete tasks that I had been procrastinating about. I am usually not a big procrastinator, more of a prioritizor and these tasks just moving up high enough on the list to get done.
On my day off, I determined to get those monkeys off my back.
I finally accomplished writing some long overdue letters, they could no longer technically be called Christmas letters so they became my New Years letters....Done!
I cleaned up my "favorites" under nutrition tracker. I put as many of the foods into categories, making it much easier to locate them and got rid of all the duplicates. Did discover that unless you had manually entered the food, you can not move it into a category, but at least when I look at my favorites now, I can find things.
Answered the emails in my inbox that had been waiting for attention and cleaned up my office.
Yep, definitely feel much better now that those monkeys are off my back.

    Ok ...so I'm a bit late on commenting on this, but better late than never...LOL ...I heard you mention Monkeys and thought you were trying to get into the daily barn chat...Oh yea I did see you there this morning...Nice of you to stop by...It's always nice when Wanda stops by...But have you noticed that for the last few days...it's turning into a barn yard...lol Check out Marla's avatar...It's a Holy Cow! (a cow with a cross on it) lol And I'm a smiling goat for now (not for long though) ...lol
Now on to the subject at hand...I was procrastinating as well about getting ready for income taxes...yuck my least favorite thing...But finally took the day and got myself organized...What a great feeling that is when you get done... And now I'm interested in this cleaning up my favorites...Categories you say eh?(that was me canadian lingo eh?) lol I'll have to check into these categories...sounds like it would make things easier...Thanks for the idea...     Those cute little monkeys will be back. We prioritize until the monkeys scream loud enough to get our attention. (My dining room monkeys were screaming out of their minds!) Good for you getting your tracking simplified. And you finished with the "New Year's letters before they became Valentines. Or then again Easter Greetings. Good Job. I am proud. On to the next priority.

Footsteps...

Interesting quote today.
For me this quote holds so much truth. When we are not aware, people are watching us. We need to be diligent in all that we do in all aspects of our lives.
It has been interesting for me at work, to see how many people have been watching my SP successes. Very little has been said, thus I have not said alot outside of answering questions as they have been posed. "are you on a diet?" "no, I am changing my lifestyle for a healthier one". "Oh". "What are you doing?" "I am eating better and exercising (such a dirty word to some), I joined a free website that helps me track my nutrition and exercise".
Sometimes further information is asked for, but usually at the mention of exercise...they back away. Interesting. I'm sure in the past, I probably did also.
They continue to watch, waiting for the day that you are no longer having success and revert back to old habits. But that hasn't happened and they see that you are still eliminating weight and feeling healthier. Soon they begin again to ask questions, but in a more serious nature. They watch, they wait, they contemplate whether they too can have the success. Eventually, they begin to follow. There are now 3 co-workers who have made the leap and joined SP.
Interesting how you never know who's life you will touch. Because of that, you need to be diligent about trying to be a positive influence and place your footsteps on solid ground.
Let's make sure that our footsteps lead to positive outcomes. Let's make sure that we encourage others rather than discourage, that we create a beautiful ripple effect not a disaster.

    I hear Mr. Lee. But what if someone is just blindly following you and you happen to walk off cliff by mistake and they do also, are you responsible? Don't they have a responsibility to watch out for themselves? I rather like the image of people walking side by side. Imagine you and me. . . Wanda! Watch out for that cliff! Nancy! Don't step on that snake! Phew. . .Thank God we have each other. I think Lee was a little too wrapped up in how important he was. (Men!) Just my opinion. :-) Today's opinion. Might change tomorrow. Who knows.

    Yes, it is fun to see where those ripples go. My daughter and I have been on SP since October. This, in turn, caused us to join the Biggest Loser contest at the Y, with a friend two family members joining us. We are making positive steps and bringing people along with us.

This quote really gave me food for thought today. I've been feeling rather down in the mouth the past couple of days. No real explanation for my blah mood, it is just there. A feeling of disconnection with those around me and even my spark teams. A feeling of not quite belonging anywhere of always being just on the outside looking in.
So today, I will take charge of my attitude and give myself an attitude adjustment. I will make choices that lift me up in spirit, I will take steps to connect in a loving way with those I care about, I will focus on the connection, not the disconnection and keep moving forward.

    You know, I feel like that so often. Always standing on the outside looking in. In fact I've written a couple poems about it. I'll post one on my blog if you're interested. But the odd thing is I hear so many people say they feel that way, and I wonder why it is we can't all SEE each other while we're standing outside that window looking in. Ever think about that?
