My February Goals

Tuesday, January 29, 2008

Hard to believe that we have already put a month of the new year behind us.
Time to set some goals for February.
1) beat my January minutes on Spark Earth by 200 minutes.
2) eliminate 8 pounds.
3) meditate each day.

January minutes as of January 29 2090. I will update this January 31 so I know what my exact minutes were for January.
I am already almost half way to my yearly goal that I set using SP calculations. Woo Hoo. I plan on surpassing the yearly goal, perhaps by the end of February....yep it's possible.
I am so enjoying this challenge. It has really motivated me to put in my active time as well as not skip my strength training.
Thank you SP.
January 31 minutes= 2232 making Feb's goal 2432 minutes

Wanda, I don't know how you stay on top of things! You're one of the most energetic and organized people I've met on here so far. I'm inspired daily by you and your words of encouragement, wisdom. Your own personal results speaks volumes and serves as a notice to all that goals can be met and health can be regained! Thanks again for everything!

Amazing , Lady, you have set yourself some powerful goals. I'm sure there's a good quote simply escaping me, but my thought is - if we don't strive, we can't succeed. Glad to see you raising the bar for yourself. Happiness. Mechey

Procrastination challenges met...

Thursday, January 24, 2008

This week I had a procrastination challenge to meet, to complete tasks that I had been procrastinating about. I am usually not a big procrastinator, more of a prioritizor and these tasks just moving up high enough on the list to get done.
On my day off, I determined to get those monkeys off my back.
I finally accomplished writing some long overdue letters, they could no longer technically be called Christmas letters so they became my New Years letters....Done!
I cleaned up my "favorites" under nutrition tracker. I put as many of the foods into categories, making it much easier to locate them and got rid of all the duplicates. Did discover that unless you had manually entered the food, you can not move it into a category, but at least when I look at my favorites now, I can find things.
Answered the emails in my inbox that had been waiting for attention and cleaned up my office.
Yep, definitely feel much better now that those monkeys are off my back.

Ok ...so I'm a bit late on commenting on this, but better late than never...LOL ...I heard you mention Monkeys and thought you were trying to get into the daily barn chat...Oh yea I did see you there this morning...Nice of you to stop by...It's always nice when Wanda stops by...But have you noticed that for the last few days...it's turning into a barn yard...lol Check out Marla's avatar...It's a Holy Cow! (a cow with a cross on it) lol And I'm a smiling goat for now (not for long though) ...lol
Now on to the subject at hand...I was procrastinating as well about getting ready for income taxes...yuck my least favorite thing...But finally took the day and got myself organized...What a great feeling that is when you get done... And now I'm interested in this cleaning up my favorites...Categories you say eh?(that was me canadian lingo eh?) lol I'll have to check into these categories...sounds like it would make things easier...Thanks for the idea... ((HUGS)) Kathy...

Monkeys? Monkeys? Is that what that screeching sound is? And why I keep misplacing things? Geez! I thought it was just me! Whew, I'm relieved! I gotta work with that menu planner more! Way to go, Wandah! Calen~

Those cute little monkeys will be back. We prioritize until the monkeys scream loud enough to get our attention. (My dining room monkeys were screaming out of their minds!) Good for you getting your tracking simplified. And you finished with the "New Year's letters before they became Valentines. Or then again Easter Greetings. Good Job. I am proud. On to the next priority.

You must be careful how you walk and where you go, for there are those following you who will set their feet where yours are set.

- Robert E. Lee, Civil War General

Interesting quote today.
For me this quote holds so much truth. When we are not aware, people are watching us. We need to be diligent in all that we do in all aspects of our lives.
It has been interesting for me at work, to see how many people have been watching my SP successes. Very little has been said, thus I have not said alot outside of answering questions as they have been posed. "are you on a diet?" "no, I am changing my lifestyle for a healthier one". "Oh". "What are you doing?" "I am eating better and exercising (such a dirty word to some), I joined a free website that helps me track my nutrition and exercise".
Sometimes further information is asked for, but usually at the mention of exercise...they back away. Interesting. I'm sure in the past, I probably did also.
They continue to watch, waiting for the day that you are no longer having success and revert back to old habits. But that hasn't happened and they see that you are still eliminating weight and feeling healthier. Soon they begin again to ask questions, but in a more serious nature. They watch, they wait, they contemplate whether they too can have the success. Eventually, they begin to follow. There are now 3 co-workers who have made the leap and joined SP.
Interesting how you never know who's life you will touch. Because of that, you need to be diligent about trying to be a positive influence and place your footsteps on solid ground.
Let's make sure that our footsteps lead to positive outcomes. Let's make sure that we encourage others rather than discourage, that we create a beautiful ripple effect not a disaster.

I hear Mr. Lee. But what if someone is just blindly following you and you happen to walk off cliff by mistake and they do also, are you responsible? Don't they have a responsibility to watch out for themselves? I rather like the image of people walking side by side. Imagine you and me. . . Wanda! Watch out for that cliff! Nancy! Don't step on that snake! Phew. . .Thank God we have each other. I think Lee was a little too wrapped up in how important he was. (Men!) Just my opinion. :-) Today's opinion. Might change tomorrow. Who knows.

Yes, it is fun to see where those ripples go. My daughter and I have been on SP since October. This, in turn, caused us to join the Biggest Loser contest at the Y, with a friend two family members joining us. We are making positive steps and bringing people along with us.

My food for thought....

Saturday, January 19, 2008

The greatest day in your life and mine is when we take total responsibility for our attitudes. That's the day we truly grow up.

- John Maxwell, author and public speaker

This quote really gave me food for thought today. I've been feeling rather down in the mouth the past couple of days. No real explanation for my blah mood, it is just there. A feeling of disconnection with those around me and even my spark teams. A feeling of not quite belonging anywhere of always being just on the outside looking in.
So today, I will take charge of my attitude and give myself an attitude adjustment. I will make choices that lift me up in spirit, I will take steps to connect in a loving way with those I care about, I will focus on the connection, not the disconnection and keep moving forward.

You know, I feel like that so often. Always standing on the outside looking in. In fact I've written a couple poems about it. I'll post one on my blog if you're interested. But the odd thing is I hear so many people say they feel that way, and I wonder why it is we can't all SEE each other while we're standing outside that window looking in. Ever think about that? Remember that even when you're feeling that way, you're not alone. You're actually in very good company! Hugs, Calen~

Wasn't that a timely reflection! It was great reinforcement and it is great to have the ears to hear it at this point in the journey. Thanks for battling through your disconnected feelings and sharing them honestly. I understand completely, or should I rather say, the place you describe is very familiar to me. I think I've been there. Wanda you are such a gift to me. I'm thankful for your friendship. Have a wonderful day. I am accomplishing mighty deeds today so I can't enjoy the luxury of too much Spark visiting, but I wanted to let you know that you are appreciated. Have a wonderful day and if you need an ear. . . I'm not too far from the computer. Love ya, Nancy

I understand that feeling; it's hard to shake sometimes, it takes focus. Attitude Adjustment. . .sometimes we all need that. You'll get through this and go on with positive steps.

Just one of those days!

Thursday, January 10, 2008

It's been just one of those days today! I'm am proud of myself for refraining from the negativity that could have swept me away.
It actually started yesterday with the knowlege that I will now be starting work 30 minutes earlier each day, so in other words 5:30 am sees me up and at 'em. (the plus side...I now get off 30 minutes earlier and it is still daylight now when I get home!)
So I walk in the door to be greeted with the news that the washer isn't working anymore...huh! It did wash the load of laundry, but refuses to spin or drain the water as well as one needs a very strong arm to open the front load door. (plus side...working out at SP strength training allowed me to get the door open, and my daughter was home to help me wring out the clothes, rinse them and wring them out again). Then my dryer start knob broke off for the 4th time. (plus side, I can still turn my dryer on using a pair of pliers to turn the sticky outy thing.
Then I see that there is a message on the phone, listen and it is a message from what I assume is a very revengeful husband (must be phoning every number that is in the phone book), he wants me to go to a website and sign a petition to have this Ashley Madison's website closed down as it encourages people to be unfaithful to their husbands or wives. Don't know who he is or who Ashley Madison is. He sounds a bit off the wall, so I phone the phone company to see if they can do anything about this character....sure they can...if I want to pay only a 1.50 per month, they will block the number from calling me. Excuse me, but this is a nuisance call and the guy sounds deranged.
Anyway, I remained calm and politely informed the phone rep that seeing as they were unable to assist that perhaps my recourse would be to phone the RCMP and see if they could do anything via the website address the guy left for me to go to before the guy perhaps committed a felony. Her response was ....well if you change your mind, it's only 1.50 per month to add this feature to your package. I so very politely informed the phone rep that no that was fine, I didn't wish to pay an additional monthly fee to block this number.
The plus side to this...I remained calm and refused to allow the negativity to invade my life. So now I have vented (shared the moment) and will go to aquasizes to further eliminated any lingering side effects of this weird and wonderful day.

"Who ever said life was boring hasn't really lived!"

I nearly choked on that one. You are soooooo right! But that is truly bizarre about the guy. Did you ever look up the website? I am so in awe of how you kept your cool through all that. I am learning to do that. Somehow over the past year I've finally figured out that if I can see things like that as just "information" or "input" I can actually NOT take them personally (which is, of course, unreasonable to begin with). So thanks for being such a great role model! Calen~

Kudos to you for coping with an extremely *IRRITATING* day! You kept your cool and focus, and didn't let all the negatives get you down!

I had to laugh about your description of turning on the dryer. We've done that as well. I've also had a pair of locking pliers used for a couple of months as the handle on my kitchen sink's hot water faucet. Dh can be a bit of a procrastinator. The only reason it finally got fixed was that my sweet mother-in-law came in and saw it (again!) and turned around to him and said, "Shame on you, David. Your wife deserves better than this." LOL!

Keep up the good work, Wanda! Your positive attitude will carry you through those difficult days.

You always have to find the silver lining or life would truly be a trial sometimes. I always try to turn something bad into something good if at all possible. Wow, being at work 30 minutes earlier was probably the easiest travail in which to find something positive. Peace, Wanda!
