Lost 2 more lbs with Spark People

I cannot tell enough people about my success and happy motivation with Spark People-- in my effort to be healthier and make lifelong changes in my habits.

I have had a incredibly busy summer, traveling, and doing things that have made it difficult to get onto the SparkPeople website to log and track my foods since the end of June. However, because of the great things I have learned and the encouragement and inspiration from many many other bloggers here, I am still working toward my goal of weight loss and fitness.

I was afraid to weigh in, ~after a month having not done so. I knew I had not been as focused on my eating and was afraid I had gained weight.... but WOW I was surprised
and delighted that I have actually lost 2 more lbs! And my endurance has increased when out walking and adding intervals of running; it has become easier and easier. I feel so energized by it all.

There have been times when I wanted to say no to my walks but every time I do it, I am rewarded with more energy and a clearer mind.... WHO wants to give that up? not me!

So I am celebrating my steps of progress and getting back to logging on Spark People and tracking my food... and sharing how things are going.

Thanks to my fellow walkers/runners/ Sparkies!!!

This weekend, I am entering my second 5K of the year... YAY!
It is going to be fun!

In the health range for BMI

I weighed in today and changed my goal to reflect my new lower weight. I was totally jazzed to see I am finally in the healthy range for my BMI. Yay! I am freaked out in a good way that I can see 140 getting closer as I step on the scale.... I haven't seen that in over twenty years. I am continually amazed at the progress and my fitness. I am not trying for a quick loss but I am working every day to make healthy choices and to keep my exercise going and a priority! I am so excited to be making progress. I have had to buy new clothes. When I look down at my knees and above my knees I can't believe its really me!! Happy dance! Thank you SparkPeople!! emoticon

Adding a Mule to my Motivational picture board, but not because I'm stubborn!

When I listened to Spark Guy on the Spark Solution Coaching today he reminded me that successful people in fitness and healthy eating remind themselves on the "why" in regards to their goals.

I had to stop and think on this more. I know in my heart, I want to be the best I can be, for my family, my grandchildren, and to be capable and unhindered to work well at whatever I choose. But thinking further, I remembered how I wanted to take the Grand Canyon Mule ride to Phantom Ranch, and how years ago, when we lived in Arizona, I was afraid I would not pass the weight restrictions guidelines. Well, I would pass now, and I am excited to think I can begin to plan this adventure... but I want to lose more weight to make it easier to get on and off that mule... Lol! So I realized I needed a mule on my "motivational picture board" to remind me of this goal to go on that Mule ride to the bottom on the Grand Canyon and back.

Some may think that riding would be a piece of cake, but it takes a lot of strength to sit up on a horse or a mule, and to stay on. The physical aspects of riding is no small thing.

I have lots of other reasons for continuing my effort to lose pounds and eat healthy. I want to expand my teaching English Country Dancing to young people in my region, and with that, I want to be my best fitness wise to do that.

I have to say, that it has been incredible the amount of energy I now have because of all the walking and running I am doing along with the strength training. Eating right has made a difference in how I feel too.

It is exciting to hear from people who are curious how I got started on these "streaks" and how inspiring I am to them and others.

So Thankful for Spark People-- the whole community who I know are working hard all over the place.

Looking forward to one day posting a photo of myself on the mule trip...

    Great visual. My before SP dream was to learn and teach yoga. I posted pictures of yoga on my SP inspired collage. I still have a ways to go to be fully certified but I just taught my first class! emoticon emoticon emoticon

    You talk mules and I talk horses. I want to horseback ride. Being overly heavy (still am heavy but working towards a smaller size) I wouldn't allow myself to. Reading your blog reawakened me to a lost dream. (((many hugs)))

Now to get a pic of a horse to put on my vision board!

Routine work outs helping to make things easier

Since I have been making exercise -- and specifically walking a priority, daily getting out the door has not been that difficult... The routine of getting up, getting my walking shoes on and getting out the door prompts me into action.

I do have days where I have the thought, "I just don't feel like it" but then I counter that thought with, "but you can" "you are able" .... I think of what the result would be of my giving into my lazy side... to succumb to the tyranny of the urgent.... and forfeit my daily dose of fresh air sunshine and CARDIO activity.... the result would be a me that wouldn't be fit, or able to do the things years from now.

I work with young people every week, and I need to be setting an example... most people think my activities come easily. That I don't have aches and fatigue, but I do... but I remember that these are signs that I have "worked"... and it is a good thing. I am not hurting, but I see that I am getting stronger. When I increase the weights for my strength training, I definitely feel it the next morning, but again, it is my body improving and so, I say Yay!

When I am out walking I have crossed paths with many people older than me, and I feel inspired ...by their work. I notice people out there who may be fellow Sparkies and I want to ask, but we are both on a fast pace to get our work outs so I usually don't stop and say, hey do you blog on Spark People?

I have more to learn here. I haven't figured out how to blog or contribute on various teams, but slowly but surely I am figuring things out.

I have so greatly appreciated the inspiration and coaching from Spark People and the Spark Solution program... it has kept me on track and I just don't want to stop.
For the first time in my life I have been consistent for 6 months and everyone around me is noticing a healthier me. It has even inspired my husband to walk further and faster... and he is losing weight as a result. It is amazing to me the number of people who have come up to me and said how much I inspire them, and that they want to get out and walk too when they see me stating my goals on Facebook... and walking each day.

I didn't think I'd ever get to where I could run without gasping for air, however now I intersperse running in my walks and am going farther each time. My legs and thighs are smaller.... I was shocked when I saw a picture of myself, I was so surprised it was really me.

I didn't think I had this much to say, but I especially want to thank Spark People for this web site, coaching, and the Spark Solution team... it has made a huge impact on my health and happiness.

And I know many of you out there could say the same things. Keep on Keeping on!
You can do it! I applaud all of you out there who are striving to improve your health and fitness! emoticon
