September wrap-up

Aloha Sparkfriends,

Weekly blogging is difficult to keep up between work and school, so I thought I might pop-in monthly to keep a record of maintenance.

Maintenance. I have stayed within a few pounds of 132 since May. That is crazy- I have bounced between 155-175 for the last ten years, so 132 is pretty freaking remarkable. I still tell people about SP all the time.

I think I wanted to post here today because my sister-in-law posted a few very unflattering pictures of me today. This is a common tale, I know, but it bummed me out. I should look at the pictures like "Wow- super duper, I've come a long way," but I just feel embarrassed by them. They aren't terrible, but bad enough to remove a few tags, lol. Ugh. So I'm going to combat my crappy feelings by posting pictures that I am proud of.

In September, I turned 28:

I thought I'd be "fat" forever, but I'm healthier this birthday than last, which makes me very happy.

I went to a luau and felt pretty in a bright orange dress:

My old "favorite" color was black because it "hid" all my imperfections.

I went to Waimea Bay with my sister-in-law, and actually allowed Mike to take a picture:

This has to be the only year on this planet I have allowed such a thing.

In October, I'm going to keep all this up. It's hard to cook healthy or take a walk after working for 10-12 hours and looking forward to reading a few articles or writing a paper for school, but the alternative- fast food, namely- results in poor health, black clothing, and hiding from cameras again. No thanks.

    I think it's great that you countered those crappy-old-photo feelings with some very strong positives. Way to go!! And congrats on your hard work and maintaining your weight loss.

    What a great way to combat your "crabby feelings" - these pictures are great- You should be very proud of all you have accomplished..congratulations on your great success and wonderful job maintaining your loss , especially considering the challenge of long working hours and going to school ! emoticon emoticon

Week 34: From 131.4 to 131.8

So I don't make myself a crazy (crazier) person, I think I'm going to weigh myself every-other week from now on. I have weighed myself three days this week- 132.4 on Tuesday, 133.8(!) yesterday, and 131.8 today. It's making me nuts, I'm over analyzing everything I put into my mouth, which is making me feel bad! When I look at the last couple of MONTHS, I have stayed within a pound or two- this is great... If it were my Sparkfriend, I would commend them for keeping up maintenance.

Oy!

I worked insanely long hours this past week, so one day, I treated myself to a bento lunch at a park:

Mike and I made hamburgers on Sunday with grilled pineapple (Hawaiian style!):



Lastly, a picture from just outside of the library I work at- what a view!



The tents were set up for a big "College Bash" event for students...

I wish you all love and luck in this and next week (it's already Thursday, after all!)... And sanity, too!

Week 33: from 132.4 to 131.4

Lost a pound!

This feels GREAT! Since June, I've stayed at 132 with little exception, and I know it's silly, but I started to think I couldn't lose any more... It's coming off. I tried to stay to the lower end of my calories and took one nice hike (I have been hiking 2x a week, but I woke up with a stiff neck this weekend, so I only got one hike in this week). With school and work in full swing, it is pretty impossible to take the daily walks I like so much, but I run around a lot at work, park far away, always take the stairs (and all of those other little things Yahoo Health or whoever recommends!), etc.

I am happy. Here's what I'm eating...

Bun! It's basically a steak (or whatever) salad with cold rice noodles and a vinegary/salty/garlicky sauce:



Garlic shrimp (and I used butter), with brown rice and a green salad:



Grilled ribeye steak (I used the leftovers for the bun), corn on the cob, and a cucumber/tomato salad:



Salmon with pesto (bought at a farmer's market here- made with sea asparagus!) over dinosaur kale:



My neck still hurts, but I'm feeling good about how my brain is managing the stresses of life (c'mon body, follow suit!). Things are intense, but so so good.

    emoticon emoticon emoticon on your weight loss. But don't forget that your bathroom scale doesn't know everything. You are doing fabulous and I'm sure your body composition is changing for the better every week. Last week I had the opportunity to weigh in on an InBody 520. A lot of health clubs or weight loss facilities are getting InBody 720 or 520 Monitors, and charge a fee to use them. I bought a Groupon, and I'm so glad I did. It was totally worth it. You get a printout of your complete body composition, water retention, muscle mass, body fat, resting metabolic rate, and so much more. emoticon
By the way, your food pictures always make me hungry. emoticon

Week 32: From 132.0 to 132.4

I was too busy to blog last week, and so busy again this week that I forgot to even WEIGH-IN yesterday!! Things are crazy here!

Monday was the first day of fall semester at work, and last night I started classes myself- I'm about halfway through a master's program in library science. I can barely keep a thought in my head as I type this.

Last week was rough diet-wise, but great exercise-wise- lots of hikes, running around at work and around town for fun, swimming and body surfing on weekends, but MAN I was huuuuuungry! Yes, Sherlock's it is my TOM (ugh), but usually I'll have a hungry day or two- this lasted over a week! And all the shame and fear that comes with having a week of pushing above my normal calorie limit was awful. I'm starting to feel like a regular person again (like, today), so I imagine my next weigh-in will be a happy one.

And lastly, my dinner tonight- mostly egg white omelet with veg, a piece of wheat toast, a Greek yogurt & frozen berry cup, and a big handful of fresh cherries (Mike is on the Big Island for work this week, so I didn't make the bed today and ate an omelet for dinner! Born to be wild!):

Week 30: from 130.4 to 132.0

I forgot about this mornings atrocious weigh-in with the business of today, so I haven't come up with anything to write.

Honestly, I did not expect to lose, but I did nothing to gain. I tracked my food, swam, and took a crazy hike on Sunday. Rather than stressing or over-thinking this, I'm going to share some pics of the last week and hope for a better weigh-in next Tuesday. Exhaaaaaaale.

Here's the hike- three hours of peaceful solitude (but there were two of us- duotude?). We ate strawberry guava off of trees and saw a private rainbow in the middle of a valley. It was enchanting:
