Week 33: from 132.4 to 131.4

Lost a pound!

This feels GREAT! Since June, I've stayed at 132 with little exception, and I know it's silly, but I started to think I couldn't lose any more... It's coming off. I tried to stay to the lower end of my calories and took one nice hike (I have been hiking 2x a week, but I woke up with a stiff neck this weekend, so I only got one hike in this week). With school and work in full swing, it is pretty impossible to take the daily walks I like so much, but I run around a lot at work, park far away, always take the stairs (and all of those other little things Yahoo Health or whoever recommends!), etc.

I am happy. Here's what I'm eating...

Bun! It's basically a steak (or whatever) salad with cold rice noodles and a vinegary/salty/garlicky sauce:

Garlic shrimp (and I used butter), with brown rice and a green salad:

Grilled ribeye steak (I used the leftovers for the bun), corn on the cob, and a cucumber/tomato salad:

Salmon with pesto (bought at a farmer's market here- made with sea asparagus!) over dinosaur kale:

My neck still hurts, but I'm feeling good about how my brain is managing the stresses of life (c'mon body, follow suit!). Things are intense, but so so good.

    emoticon emoticon emoticon on your weight loss. But don't forget that your bathroom scale doesn't know everything. You are doing fabulous and I'm sure your body composition is changing for the better every week. Last week I had the opportunity to weigh in on an InBody 520. A lot of health clubs or weight loss facilities are getting InBody 720 or 520 Monitors, and charge a fee to use them. I bought a Groupon, and I'm so glad I did. It was totally worth it. You get a printout of your complete body composition, water retention, muscle mass, body fat, resting metabolic rate, and so much more. emoticon
By the way, your food pictures always make me hungry. emoticon

Week 32: From 132.0 to 132.4

I was too busy to blog last week, and so busy again this week that I forgot to even WEIGH-IN yesterday!! Things are crazy here!

Monday was the first day of fall semester at work, and last night I started classes myself- I'm about halfway through a master's program in library science. I can barely keep a thought in my head as I type this.

Last week was rough diet-wise, but great exercise-wise- lots of hikes, running around at work and around town for fun, swimming and body surfing on weekends, but MAN I was huuuuuungry! Yes, Sherlock's it is my TOM (ugh), but usually I'll have a hungry day or two- this lasted over a week! And all the shame and fear that comes with having a week of pushing above my normal calorie limit was awful. I'm starting to feel like a regular person again (like, today), so I imagine my next weigh-in will be a happy one.

And lastly, my dinner tonight- mostly egg white omelet with veg, a piece of wheat toast, a Greek yogurt & frozen berry cup, and a big handful of fresh cherries (Mike is on the Big Island for work this week, so I didn't make the bed today and ate an omelet for dinner! Born to be wild!):

Week 30: from 130.4 to 132.0

I forgot about this mornings atrocious weigh-in with the business of today, so I haven't come up with anything to write.

Honestly, I did not expect to lose, but I did nothing to gain. I tracked my food, swam, and took a crazy hike on Sunday. Rather than stressing or over-thinking this, I'm going to share some pics of the last week and hope for a better weigh-in next Tuesday. Exhaaaaaaale.

Here's the hike- three hours of peaceful solitude (but there were two of us- duotude?). We ate strawberry guava off of trees and saw a private rainbow in the middle of a valley. It was enchanting:

Week 29: from 131.6 to 130.4

Right on.

I am less than a pound away from the 120s! I know I'm a broken record, but I never, never, never thought I could lose ten pounds, let alone 40.

This is major.

There is no mystical magical number I'm shooting for- I just want to feel comfortable in a bikini (which is a revision of an earlier goal to feel comfortable in a bathing suit- one piece implied!), be healthy, fit, and strong. That's all.


This week, I had cereal, oatmeal (cooked one day, overnight another), egg on toast, and a banana or half a papaya for breakfast and packed my lunches (which normally included an apple and tuna salad or salad with black bean salsa (you know the kind- with a can of Rotel tomatoes and corn- cowboy caviar)). Dinners are being made at home more (it's slowly setting in that I'm not a tourist, and therefore should not dine out nightly, lol) and consist of lots of brown rice, green things, and fish or some other protein. I've still had about one small splurge a day- like a black bean manapua when someone brought them to the office, or a small piece if lemon birthday cake yesterday. Still, with some walks and a hike on the weekend, the weight still is finding it's way off of me.

This weekend I made a blueberry cobbler with frozen blueberries and a crumble that consisted of flour, brown & white sugar, cinnamon, butter (a liiiittle), and an individual bag of Quaker Maple & Brown Sugar Oatmeal! It was good:

    Wow! I don't think I've seen the 120's since middle school! But I've been back to the 130's and I looked way too small then. Congrats to you and you're doing great and inspiring!

Weeks 27 & 28: from 132.0 to 131.6

Two weeks have passed since my last blog- I started my new job last Monday and COMPLETELY forgot to post!

Maybe it's for the best- last week I seemed to have GAINED a pound- Tuesday a.m. the scale read 133.0, which was a major bummer, but again, I've been eating out a lot more and trying a lot of new foods here in Hawaii (and not feeling very guilty about it!). Also, Mike and I are getting back into the swing of walking and hiking, and this week we did much better than last.

New loves: PAPAYA! Discovering new beaches and hikes! Yelp (how I'm discovering the island's best... everything)! Hi ling powder (sour plum powder- I've been sprinkling it on fruit)! Shave ice! Body surfing! Furikake- a seasoning that includes nori, sesame seeds, salt and sugar. I sprinkled furikake on a piece of salmon and sauteed it for dinner last night with brown rice and cucumbers- it was so good! I should have taken a picture!

The dislikes aren't even worth mentioning. Things are good here and so beautiful. I've been here three weeks now, but I still can't believe we live here. Next Tuesday I'll be sure to attach some pics and talk more about the health-related aspects of our new life here, but for now... I'm going to finish this Kona Brewing Company Wailua Wheat Beer and go to sleep!

    Just the other day I was wondering how life was going for you. Obviously, it is Hawaii so it should be great. But, sometimes settling in can take time even in paradise. So happy to here things are well!
