week 18: From 138.0 to 137.0

Week 18 was FUN!

Mike and I celebrated our fourth anniversary, Mike earned his M.S. in GIS from USC, and we had a really nice going away party thrown by my best friend, Cyndi. And I lost another pound. I can't believe it either...

Our anniversary was on the 10th. We drove to Temecula and did a little wine tasting and had a very diva lunch (I had salad and NO wine- saved that for the tasting!).

After wine tasting, we went shopping and I bought two pairs of size SIX trousers from J. Crew (my first time shopping there- outlets rock). Later, we had fish tacos and walked around a very bustling farmer's market and "licked the windows," a.k.a, windowshopped.

Mike's graduation was amazing! USC is such a beautiful campus, and his parents and grandmother were there (we are all so so proud of him!), it was just perfect.

But y0u know what, I don't hate it at all... I even like it!!! After the long ceremony, we went to Corner Bakery, and I had a salad (see the trend, lol?!).

Finally, our going away party, which was just pure fun! My best friends, favorite classmates, and closest uncle and aunt were there. First, we had cocktails (I had white wine) at the Mission Inn's Presidential Lounge (beautiful!), and then walked to get tacos, and ended up at a NICE restaurant called Mario's (they have a cool patio lounge) listening to good music and more drinks!

I had TWO separate friends tell me I looked like a "model(!!!)," not nice, pretty, healthy, or cute, but a MODEL??? Oh man, the compliments will NEVER get old!
Mike's sister and her husband, and his brother and his girlfriend met us at Mario's, and I couldn't help myself but to make a split pic of all of us from this past xmas and this weekend:

In week 19, I am starting a new mission: working on getting Michelle Obama arms! I picked up my bridesmaid's dress (the wedding is June 30th), and it's looking a little... blah on top. I am a strength training novice, but I saved this little outline months ago because it seemed doable:

    Happy Anniversary and you look amazing! There are lots of great workouts on pinterest, but there also great little workouts on here too! Look into the videos sometime for ideas!

    Sounds like you had a lot of fun and avoided a lot of pitfalls by good planning around all the eating and partying that is so much a part of celebrating graduations and anniversaries .. Week 17: From 139.0 to 138.0

I am LATE in writing this blog... I weigh-in a few days, but here's how last week went:

-I closed my work library (inventory, end-of-year reports, bills, bills, bills)
-I ate french fries twice (and broke down twice "I'm going to gain all my weight back, Waaaaaaaaahhhh!!!)
-We moved (from Valencia back to the in-laws for the time being)
-We had two "going away" type functions (beer, beer, and more beer)

And I lost a pound. There is no mystery here, I stayed within my calorie range (even on the fries and beers days), took two looong walks, moved all of our worldly possessions, and drank lots of water. But somehow, a pound lost always surprises, amazes, and delights me.

This week, it's all about finishing finals and preparing for an interview I have later this month(!)... Trying to get good workouts in is a challenge in a new environment, but I'm going to "just do it," an overused mantra that works for me.

May goals and whatnot...

Hi Sparkles!

Never in my adult life have I seen a number like this:

So, now what??

May is a new month- and I LOVE a new start... I even like Mondays emoticon

While I have decided to keep losing 5 pounds at a time, I'm trying to slow down a bit. I'm really enjoying having more calories to work with (I had a SANDWICH on TWO pieces of BREAD yesterday- GASP!), but I am honestly a little uncomfortable with this wiggle room (and nervous that I will gain weight for the first time). Exacerbating this feeling is my having a cold this week. I took a long walk today, but was basically comatose Sunday and Monday... We'll just have to wait and see, won't we?

In May, I'm going to:
- keep tracking. If it aint broke, ya know? I really don't mind tracking, I love planning because it makes me feel very in control of weight loss.
-keep walking and hiking. I like it and won't quit.
-learn to deal with maintenance. Never been there before EVER, but excited to see what it is all about.
-keep eating stuff like this:

because it makes me feel good.

    Great job! I LOVE that you are not seeing this as time to eat whatever you want (in a non-healthy way), that you love the way healthy food makes you feel, so you're going to keep at it. You love feeling in control of your weight, so you keep tracking. You love walking and hiking so you are going to keep doing it. That's so important to realize what we love and what makes us feel good on this journey and not just think "I hit my goal, I'm going to stop everything". Your body is healthy and your thinking is very healthy also - love it!! So happy for you and proud of you! Have a fabulous May!

Week 16: From 141.0 to 139.0 (GOAL!)

Hi Sparkfriends!

I've had a couple days to think about it and I still don't know what to write... When I started Spark on January 2nd, I chose 140 as a goal because I'd never been there as an adult. I had no clue what 140 pounds looked like. Yesterday was my great friend's bridal shower, and we took pictures, so THIS is what 139 looks like:

And this is what 170 looked like back in September:

My SP friend Susan asked if I'm going to keep going and the answer is YES! 5 pounds at a time (again, uncharted territory), but I'm slowing it down... I changed my goal to 135 by June 30th (my friend's wedding), and was AMAZED by the # of calories I can eat now (WOOOOO-HOOOOOOOO!!!).

Thank you sincerely to all of my friends that have kept me continually motivated and entertained. I've always felt so welcome and each of you inspire me daily (the community is the real daily spark!). LOVE to you all!!!

Week 15: From 142.8 to 141.0

Hi Sparkpeople!

I figured I would have a small loss after a very successful week 14, but NO! In your face, fat! I am down another 1.8 pounds and only ONE SINGULAR pound away from my original goal of -30 pounds. Whew...

I am learning to be patient and trust that if you are doing the right things, you will become healthier. It's hard not to count up all of my differentials and hope for -1 each week, but as I read here somewhere- "my body is not a calculator." Here are some things that keep my happy, healthy, and on track.

1. Every Monday (my busiest day, but it HAS to be done!) I grocery shop for the week. I plan out breakfast, snack, lunch, and dinner for Monday- Friday. This is something I enjoy doing, and I realize it is NOT for everyone, but I find it keeps me from eating poorly, saves $, and few things make me happier than opening a fridge that looks like this:

2. I WALK because I like it. I have tried running and strength training, but I always seem to give up on those! I am still working on that, but in the meantime, I walk almost everyday for about an hour. My awesome shoes help keep me motivated (and blister-free):

3. Staying busy. For most, this is nooooo problem, but I am GREAT at wasting time (internet!!!). I work and go to school, but I have a feeling this impending move has contributed to my loss this week:

Friday I got together with my best friends (they are all very superstitious, so we go out to see horror flicks or to spooky historic buildings for dinner every Friday the 13th) and enjoyed a (that actually means ONE here) piece of pizza, and the better part of a bottle of wine (oops)... It was a good time, here's a pic:

In week 16, I will eat all of that good stuff in my fridge, walk and walk and walk (and run a LITTLE), and continue stalking all of my lovely Spark friends because they keep me motivated and happy... Love to you all this week!
