Who I am?

Thursday, October 07, 2010

I am 69 years old consultant oncology surgeon, worked most of my life in Baghdad Iraq in a teaching hospital. I have 5 children all married and live outside Iraq. I immigrated to Canada sine 2007 and my wife is there now. I am a good catholic and work as that with my patients and the church.
I was forced to leave Baghdad because of the troubles which occured after the Americans invaded my country. Being out of work made me depressed so I returned to my home trying to accept the hardships of living in Baghdad with very little social services, I don't think I can carry on and most probably return to Canada for good just before Christmas. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Home alone

Tuesday, October 05, 2010

living in my house alone in Baghdad at this time is not only dangerous but also difficult, there is no maid accepts to work in a semi-bachelor's house beside the restaurants are too expensive and their food is unquestionably unhealthy.
I decided to make my food in the way my cardiologist wants and Spark people advises. To start with I thought this is too difficult a task but when I went to Chef Meg site things became different, You not only can choose but it is very cheap and easy.
Each day I cook a different dish than the day before, I can add the spices I want and sometimes without the knowledge of Chef Meg I add or subtract the thing which I don;t like or is unavailable, today It is my 50th day alone and I am sincerely happy, my weight hasn't changed and probably is still going down, I'm enjoying eating and it is healthy and priceless. So it is my advise to our fellow members of SP to follow Chef Meg recipes with freedom to change the way you like it and I am sure you will thank Spark People for their efforts and me for the advice.

Prevention

Sunday, October 03, 2010

The fat in our body can accumulate either around the waist or around the buttocks
so you either be an apple or a pear
each one has a problem
the worst is the apple as it increases the heart disease risk
this one is difficult to get rid off
so probably one can say prevention is much better than cure.

Yeah...unlike many women, I'm an apple. Though my weight also accumulates on my bum as well...but I don't get much around my hips or thighs, which is traditional for pears. On the positive side, I gain weight everywhere, so a lot of time people can't tell I've gained a little bit of weight...happily, I'm going in the opposite direction.

Health

Saturday, October 02, 2010

No matter what it means , we don't consider it important and valuable till we find it at risk. We as young men smoked had alcohol and did so many dangerous things as well as taking risk for no apparent benefit.
Now as we get older and start having problems here and there we consider life precious and start to look after ourseves with anxiety and restrictions.
Is it more fruitful if we go on proper track from the begining or if so life will be taseless.
I wonder!!!!!!!

My mum prevented me from smoking as I was 18, all my friends smoked and now they're all looking at least 10 years older than me...I have to thank mum, though, I was not so intelligent to stop by myself, anyway I try to tell young people NOT to start smoking & drinking emoticon

So true. You know we knew everything as young fools who were virtually invincible. Now we have to restore the old vessels before we crumble from frivolous folly.
That's just my opinion...

Getting used to live with restrictions to keep your life healthier and your loving people happy you have to follow rules set up by knowledhable people who are your doctors, whom you choose to look after you. but as you are old and never been ruled by any body, following these rules make you angry and try to break them,
Having such a nice people all happy to support you in the SP then every thing becomes easy and lovely, the support I get through my friends in Spark People have so much help in keeping me in good terms with my doctors and my life easier and my health better.
