Hot Yoga

Yoga virgin no more over here! *points*

Well wow! What an experience. I'll try and write (type) a bit better than i usually do here, and write about my experience the way I'd like someone to explain if i were interested in trying it. I'm really tired though, so i hope i make sense!

Things were a bit rushed when i got there, I arrived later than i'd hoped for. Staff were really friendly - told me not to worry or be nervous. As soon as you go into the building there is a 'no shoes' policy, so you have to leave your shoes at the door! I liked this. :)

Went upstairs to a changing room to put belongings away, took my over clothes off and the instructor came to get me (and my friend). I wore my shorts, because i know that if i am hot or get too hot, i really need to have shorts on to not overheat. That sound weird? :-/

Entering the Hot Room ! There's a sign on the door saying "Silence please when entering" - it's all so nice and professional! Well, the door opened and there was a room with mirrors lined along the front of the room. The whole of the floor space was covered in mats.... and people laying on their mats stretched out long. We were the last to enter, and had to step over everyone to the ONLY TWO mats left at the FRONT of the class. Scared!

Started right away. Doing some stretches first and breathing. I don't know the names of any of the moves or anything, so i won't try to go into that, lol. :P So after 5 mins, i was starting to sweat and my breathing was heavy. It wasn't a bad or nasty sweating though, it felt kind of, pure? Nobody looked at anybody and everybody focused on what the instructor was saying.

I followed her as best i could, and found after warming up that my stretches were deeper, i usually have a good stretch after a workout, and i am aware of my improvement in that department, so it was nice to see these stretches seem to just come to me without pushing too hard. Also the balance... i did ok on the balance and was quite surprised! There is LOTS of room for improvement though. The breathing is interesting and i think i'll get into that more after more classes. I found myself at times really out of breath, holding the current pose and being shaky, thinking i better just lie down and get my breath or i'm gonna fall... but held on as much as i could through most of them.

Sweat in my eyes, dripping down the arms, legs. Oh it was wet!

The session finished lying flat on the mat stretched out. I started getting into the breathing a bit more at that time. Coming out of the hot room were orange segments to eat and ice cold towels for refreshment! How nice is that? I was well impressed. My whole body was glowing, for like an hour afterwards too.

This was really interesting for me to try and it's VERY different from anything i've ever done (football, rugby?) but it was a nice change! I did enjoy it and it was a challenge, I'm looking forward to my next session. I don't know if after a few sessions, if doing the same moves all the time it might get boring to me, but for now i'll just say that i'm excited and i'll wait and see!

Nice healthy dinner of fish with asparagus and cauliflower - and omgosh, i haven't tasted cauliflower SO good in such a long time! I'm not big on cauliflower but my mouth is watering NOW thinking of how tasty it was when i ate it only an hour ago, lol!

Rightio! Workout tomorrow when i get home - can't wait already!

I have been doing Bikram Yoga since July and I love it! The first couple months were difficult for me but it's become much better for me. There are a few poses that I dread doing but other than that I think it's one of my favorite workouts. It seems that I am getting more results from this than anything I've tried before.

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Sounds like i need to give this hot yoga a try. I have issues with not knowing how to breathe when im exercising. I think i pretty much stop breathing! Haaaaaaah. We have a no shoes policy at home too, it helps everything nicer and cleaner.

What a great experience. It depends on the instructor and type of class if the moves will be repeated. But even if you're doing the same move there's usually a way to make it more challenging, so perhaps you won't get bored. And yoga is all about doing what's right for your body at that particular time. So even if the move is the same, your body might be tired/energetic so it will feel different or be more/less challenging.

The breathing will come with time, too. That was one of the hardest things for me at first, too. And once you get the hang of it, you can carry it over to other exercises. It's helped me learn to control my breathing when I run.

Sounds like you've found a great class right off the bat! emoticon What a neat experience. And everything's so well organized and professional.

They should have explained the breathing technique to you at the start of the class. Once you figure it out, you can "breathe into" poses, which lets you stretch even more deeply. A good way to rest, if you need to, is in Child's Pose, where you sit on your heels and rest your upper body on the mat.

If you're afraid you'll get bored with the class somewhere down the road, talk to your instructor. She should be able to tell you how these classes normally progress. I suppose it also depends on if this is an ongoing class to which you've booked a random interval of sessions, or if all your sessions belong to one class. Hm... what I mean is, when I did Pilates, I paid for 12 sessions, but the actual course goes on all year round. I just happened to participate in 12 sessions out of that. Still ended up providing enough challenge and variation to not make it boring.

Is this a once a week deal? It'll be nice to hear how things go for you. And I wouldn't be surprised one bit if you end up inspiring more people to give it a try!

Glad to hear you enjoyed it and yes when you do not have to concentarte so much on the instructor and what is left and right the concentration on the breathing will get easier and you will feel even better for it!

My Beating Heart!

Monday, October 24, 2011

Totally wiped out. Thought a cardio workout would be a nice one to break me back in after 7 days rest. Oh how wrong I was.

Did this workout - www.myomytv.com/my-beating-heart-car

Scores on the doors ~
Side to Side Step Ups (Side lunge jumps) 45-35-26
Kettlebell Vertical Swing Burpee (14kg) 8-6-6 (New to these! Fun!)
Jump Rope (variable) 68-53-53
Two-Handed Kettlebell Swing (14kg) 29-28-25
Burpee 9-7-9
Diagonal Touch Dynamic Squats 34-38-39
Bench Jump-Overs (98, 90, 97)

I was thisclose to quitting after the 2nd set... but i looked at DH and he goes "Um, are you ok?" because i was extra extra out of breath and red and dying, i make a face and he then said "Come on, push a little bit more..." bless him! And on i went to the final set. Youch!

The more I see over at myomytv and Marianne - the more i am overly impressed. She is SO strong. I am also waiting to see the changes and what's happening at Bodyrock. Oh, my beating heart.

I am now very much pooped. First and hardest workout is in the bag now. Oh and i am booked in for Hot Yoga tomorrow! Eep! I'm both excited and scared... so we'll see how it goes.

My o my o my (hah couldnt resist!) I am totally feeling the Myomy love, i spent a few hours the other day loking over the workouts. I must say i was impressed, i love the interval style training that she and Zuzana provide, its a really fun way to workout. I did notice though that she is a fan of the kettleball, its in almost every workout. Then i remembered Zuzi got obsessed with the ugi ball, and now Zuzi wont be on the workouts no more : (

Let me know how hot yoga goes my friend asked me the other day if i wanted to join her as she got a good deal for 10 sessions. I think 1 for each session.

Also i forgot to mention that your husband rocks, for providing that much needed push at the end!

A Sad Read

Sunday, October 23, 2011

I just saw the latest update at Bodyrock.tv

I could write an essay. I'm very saddened by this. A little shocked - although lots of Bodyrockers had been leaving comments lately with ideas of them no longer being together.

They were a lovely couple, and kinda perfect in the ways they had banter for the camera, and you could just feel the love between them.

I just read their whole post out to my Hubby. He listened to all of it. Because even he knows all about 'Freddy & Zuzana' who i talk about all the time!

Very sad for them. And sending them love. I'm sure they will be strong and get through this, as they said, they're still best friends!

As an "old married lady" my first thought when I read through Freddy's post was that they are young & foolish and not ready for a more mature relationship. It's not always sunbeams & rainbows together. But it's their choice.

I'm excited that Zuzana will be doing more recipes - I love that part of the site.

And I may check out their message boards more.

I've always loved the two of them, and I hate that they are breaking up. I think they will get back together. They are together 24/7 and that right there can put a damper in the hamper if you know what I'm saying. I think they will make up. After he/she see there is no-one else as perfect as them together. They work well together, and gel great. I know the friendship will be there, but somewhere down the line. The lust for eachother must have fizzled out..I'm praying for her. And I am praying for him, because they are fitness and love... And I think her love for fitness, and his love for her kinda makes it hard for him. I mean, who wants their wife jumppin up and down all day showing boobs.. That was my husband comment on the matter.. He told me once before he will get tried of this. Maybe he did, but I am hoping for a bigger and brighter out come in this.
Oh, and I can't wait to see what's going down for next month, and hope they are back together as one.. As my sister say. He's going to miss the sex... And she hope they aren't going to be friends with benefits.. That won't work. They might as well take 30 day trips apart to work on time and space away from each other.. Just a thought!

Though I've been less emotionally invested in them lately, Zuz's video today totally just broke my heart. :( She's always been so encouraging and supportive of everyone so I hope the supportive comments can help her look past the hurtful ones. There's probably so much more to the story than they post about, and that's okay. Wishing them both peace and healing. :(

I have only been doing Bodyrock for 10 weeks, I guess I haven't really had time to get emotionally invested in them as a couple. Of course I think they're both awesome and I am a little sad by the news, but I really was there for the workouts, so hopefully those won't change much.

I agree with both of you and Vyv, though its none of my business, i did feel like they were the perfect couple. I felt sad and disappointed when i read their post. They talked about love, respect and developing a deep friendship or each other, all the qualities required of a successful marriage. So i was a little confused, but then again i do think they are 'sitting on top of each other' as Vyv put it, perhaps they just need a little time apart to realise what they have. I have a feeling their separation wont be forever.

VYVIENN 10/23/2011 4:12PM

I have mixed feelings about this, perhaps because I've been through a similar thing myself. Personally, I think it's a bit early for them to throw in the towel, but perhaps they should consider separating their work and private lives a bit more. Sitting on top of each other 24/7 has to eventually make the spark fizzle, so to speak... anyway... the separation they're going through right now might turn out to be a good thing for their marriage. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Whirlwind Week!

Saturday, October 22, 2011

Phew! Glad THAT'S over with!

I had a really busy week, i seemed to have something on every night of the week after work. Usually i finish work around 5/6pm, get home and workout, shower/eat/relax. This week i had my brothers birthday, spent the night chatting in his house til late, my DH niece's bday - we had drinks, on a WEDNESDAY night please! I got my hair done another night, something else... *memory fail* and then cinema Friday night with a friend! Sheesh! This is a hectic social life compared to my non-existent one... LOL.

My eating has been ok-ish. I've been good and i've been bad. Balanced! ;) No workouts but have knocked a few pushups out now and then to remind my arms not to lose the ability, hah. I also did some pullups this morning - yay! Should do me good having a break and getting back to them.

Had a nice surprise when i decided to weigh myself this morning. I weighed in at 10stone 8. 148lbs. Not too bad hey?

Oh... Indian food is here. Back to normal me next week i hope!

~Fabulous view of Prague from the castle

~I love this crazy one we took...

~My Daddy and me

~Hard Rock Cafe - Praha

~Everywhere is just as beautiful at night...

~The treats!

And that's all really!

It's nearly the end of the week and i'm really feeling it... had a little BodyRock workout tonight "You Push Me" and i had my scores from back in February... and my scores were so low this time round. The only thing i can think of is that my form and intensity for the exercises has improved, and i'm using a real jump rope now as opposed to nothing. Wasn't great to see my numbers go way down though.

Not to worry, Friday tomorrow, yayy!

This blog makes want to come visit asap, Very beautifl photos. It was nice to see you with ur family, the ones who have helped and supported you through this amazingly beautiful journey that you are on! England is absolutely beautifull enriched with so much history and cultural character. Love all of the art they spoke volumes, even the food was art, it looked amazing. If you try ne other new dishes please do share , im craving for new ideas again. You know me always tryna switch it up.

YOu'll probably see me around here a lot more. I decided that im going to create new goals and implement them with my commitment to me and discipline because as long as you have those 2 components you've got hard work coming at a steady pace. Motivation is a neccesity I dont always need it to work out. I find when im very disciplined i work out even when i dont fell good or dont want to. Like the other day when i was sick and felt like total crap. I got down and done situps and felt much better afterwards.

Thanks for sharing this amazing blog it was very enlightening!

Yes thats one issue i have with keeping scores is that as you get stronger and fitter you be able to do more of the exercises without the modifications for example more real pushups as opposed to on your knees. This will mean however that your numbers will go down. Keep a detailed journal, so you know exactly whats going on.

Lovely photos, beautiful city and some great artwork, no wonder Zuzana keeps going back to visit! Thanks for sharing! By the way, you are really working the short cropped look!
