Soooo - looks like I've been MIA for just under a year - and what a year it's been. The past 6 months have been pretty rough for me, but with the New Year I hav e a new attitude to reclaim control of my life. I think my original reasons for joining Spark were focused more on how I look and things of that nature, but now I just want to be healthier.
I don't know that I'll be able to Spark at the level that I was previously, but I'm glad to just have access to the accountability and tracking for now. We'll see how it goes this time around. Glad to be back. emoticon

Do you have Netflix Instant? Some of the food documentaries on there were really motivating for me. Completely changed the focus from wanting to look better to wanting to be healthier. And I've never felt better! Check out Hungry for Change and Food Matters if you are able. Very inspiring!

Looking for a new source of inspiration...

Wednesday, February 01, 2012

As my progress has slowed, and as I'm entering my busy season at work - I'm realizing that I'm going to have to find new and different ways to get motivated. I won't have as much time to spend on SparkPeople reading other peoples stories and motivating others. Sneaking in time to work out will also be difficult as work, sleep and stealing moments with my son will fill up most of my time. Today I'm going to take a bunch of fruit with me to work so I have healthy snacks at my desk to keep me fueled up without adding excess baggage. Anyone else with a super hectic schedule that has tips for me???

Good luck figuring out a schedule that will work for you and your family. Your son's young, but maybe you can incorporate him into your fitness. Spending time playing games with him, tag, Simon says, piggy back rides. sit-ups, squats push ups. Children learn what they live. I'm only an aunt, but whenever the nephews and nieces visit, I swear I'm more tired from chasing them and playing with then from doing a Jillian DVD.

Be sneaky. Any extra movement counts, so take the long way to the restroom at work, take a long way around every where you have to go, march in place or something while waiting for the copier or microwave. Do you have a pedometer? Set a goal for number of steps per day and get them any way you can think of.

This my busy season also and one of my best motivators is my son. I keep a picture of him on my desk that reminds me that I want to be healthy to be there for him. Also I have a picture of me at 120 lbs that is taped on my mirror. It reminds me I want to be that girl with the waist again! Good Luck!!

It sounds silly, but I have a board on Pinterest that I keep as motivation. Some are pictures of people who are obviously dedicated to their health and some are quotes to keep me going. It helps keep me in the right mind. I also have a picture printed out that says, "Yesterday you said tomorrow." When I read that, it reminds me that I've put it off too many times. I don't want to look back 6 months from now and be mad at myself for not sticking to it.

It changed!

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

I jumped on the scale this morning, and that middle number changed! Now, I'm not saying I haven't seen that happen for like a second a handful of times this past month or so... but I REALLY have been struggling with getting into the next "decade" lately. So my goal is going to be to do everything humanly possible so that the number STAYS changed and I can weigh in with my challenges this weekend with something to show. Still waiting for advice on exercise I can do while driving! lol

Yeah, as the driver of a car your hands (arms) and feet (legs) are pretty much committed. I think JCARDINAL gave some good options. Now, as a passenger one could get more creative.

Oh, and emoticon on the middle number. emoticon

Besides your kegels :) you can always strengthen your stomach muscles by contracting them and holding for a count of ten release and then tense again. Or tighten your glutes. I work on my face muscles by singing loudly to the radio! emoticon

Motivate Yourself by Motivating Others

Wednesday, January 18, 2012

My SparkPeople activity has its ebbs and flows, but I've realized that when I spend the time to reach out to other Sparkers who are reaching their goals, I tend to be more focused on my own as well. I've made it a point to try to stop by the New Members message board on the community page and to look at 1st Blog posts in the Sparkisphere as well. I know I was pretty lost my first few days on this site, and I want to help others find all the useful tools Sparkpeople has to share.
So if you're feeling like you're in a SparkSlump - Join me! Maybe it'll help reignite the spark.

    Absolutely agreed!

Getting out and about and supporting and greeting others can make us want to achieve more for ourselves, remind us of ways to overcome pitfalls, see our own excuses in what others have written, and raise the general positive energy as we join in encouraging one another.

The old cliche' is always worth remembering - 'tis better to give than receive. It even works with Support, Motivation, and Encouragement!

Dear Me (BLC-Wk 1 challenge)

Sunday, January 15, 2012

Hey there- Happy April Fools Day!

You did it- You completed the BLC - AND you did it during busy season. (Speaking of which, almost done! Hang in there!) I'm so proud of you for consistently tracking your calories in and calories out. Going to that Friday morning bootcamp and Tuesday evening Zumba class has really helped you keep good energy through this time of year. And look at you in that suit that was too tight for you in December! Looking good! As these last couple weeks of crazy time come upon you, don't pop a button on that suit by stress-eating. Take what you've learned and keep with it. Do it for your fellow pirates (and new friends!:) )
