I gained weight, what?

Wednesday, October 22, 2008

Maybe it's stress, maybe it's some weird reaction to taking Aleve, which I've never taken before. Whatever it is, I've gained almost 6 pounds this week and I don't know why. Normally I can account for gains and losses, after recalling what I've eaten. Not this time, this time it's a complete mystery.

The other thing that has been weird about this week is my headaches. I usually don't get headaches, but yesterday I think I may have actually had a migraine. I've never had one before, but it was so bad and felt like someone kept pulsing pain through the back of my head, through to my eyes. I think it might have something to do with my water consumption, but drinking water didn't seem to help. Today, I feel like if I move wrong, the headache is going to return. I sure hope not, because it was awful!

So, whatever is going on has made it so that I need to start eating better, to keep my weight in check and to hopefully get rid of the headaches. I figure most things have to do with diet, and somewhat with exercise.

Point is, I'm back on SP and keeping track of my progress.

My baby turned 1!!

Friday, January 05, 2007

So, my almost New Year's baby turned one on January 2! It seems like it was just a month ago that I was screaming in pain at the hospital and the doctor's were telling me that the baby wouldn't make it unless they did a c-section RIGHT THEN! His heart rate was below 45 bpm and was steadily going down. It was so scary. Jump ahead a year and I have a very healthy, stubborn little guy who is so cute! Just look at his picture on my Sparkpage. His older brother and sister are starting to like to play with him and he is almost walking. He's taken a few steps at a time, until he realizes that he's walking and falls! He is the best reason to have the weight that I am trying to lose. It's "happy weight". Hmm...I still am working to get rid of it, though. Running after him is a lot of exercise!

Blizzard 2006, part 1 & 2

Friday, December 29, 2006

Yikes, what weather we've been having here in Colorado! On Wednesday, December 20, we got 23" of snow. Believe it or not, Colorado is not prepared for lots of snow...at least not on the "plains". Actually, I live close to the foothills, but we still didn't get our road plowed until Saturday night at midnight!! Needless to say, I'm really glad that I have been doing my grocery shopping once a week, so we were prepared for not going anywhere for those few days.
Well, welcome to part 2. Last night we got about 7", with predictions of up to 20" by Sunday morning. I went to the already bare stores and got as much of what I needed as I could. When I finally got out last week, the store was out of most produce, including potatoes, celery, onions, bananas, cranberries, dairy, milk, cheese, yogurt, toilet paper, paper towels, etc. I went back a few days later and was able to pick up most of that, but the shelves were still getting picked clean, just as quickly as the store could replenish. Scary! (Think of if this was a disaster emergency!!)
This has actually helped me stay on my diet, since I'm not going to the store every other day, less temptations to buy things I don't need, like candy bars and sodas. I will continue to do the once a week shopping. The other benefit is that I've been saving money, just getting what I need on my list. I highly recommend it to anyone who is on a diet or wants to save money. The other reason to make sure your pantry is stocked is "just in case". Keep it stocked with good for you foods that will keep. This storm is the "big one" that we get every few years, but already this is the 3rd most snow that we've ever had in December since they started keeping track of those things. We have more snow right now than we had all winter last year! People don't think that they need to make preparations, "just in case", but it's a really smart thing to do. We ended up feeding some of our unprepared neighbors, because they are the types that go to the store every other day. I used to be that way...no more!
Just something to think about. Try visiting www.ready.gov for information on things you should have stocked, for just in case.

CHILLS 12/29/2006 12:34PM

This is one year I'm glad I didn't fly out to visit family for Xmas - I would have been delayed going and coming back! I've been snowed in so many times at both the new and old airports. Business travel is not nearly as glamorous as people think sometimes. We seem to be getting less and less snow here in the mid-Atlantic states the past few years. I'm originally from upstate New York (anything north of the Bronx is considered upstate) and I really miss the snow sometimes. We had that "big one" in MD back in '96, but nothing really noteworthy since then. It hasn't even been fireplace weather yet this year. I miss sitting by a fire, watching a Turner Classic Movie and watching the snow build up in peaks along the tree branches and fence tops. There's something magical about stepping out late at night and walking on the untouched snow and the night is so still you can hear each flake touch the snowy ground. Oh sure, you need to make sure you have enough toilet paper and milk on hand. And distractions, lots of distractions, to ward off cabin feaver. And yes, it would be nice if my neighbor would (just once) shovel his sidewalk. But I'd trade our rainy 50 degree December days for a little snow storm sometime.

What a weekend...

Sunday, December 17, 2006

This weekend, we had dinner with some friends Friday night, went to my sister in laws graduation from the university Saturday at noon and then to an Italian restaurant for dinner, THEN a friend of mine also graduated from another university and it was her 40th birthday so she decided to celebrate by having a huge party with 40 of her favorite desserts. And then we went out after that to go dancing. So, today is Sunday and I met with a group of my favorite girls for breakfast and had a huge breakfast, including 4 CUPS of the most wonderful hazelnut coffee in the world and the best corned beef hash that has ever been made. Ok, I'm biased. I go to one of the best breakfast places called the Egg and I. They DO have healthy food, but I choose not to eat it. I'm going to have to change that. It's just that I don't go that often, so it's a huge treat to get their corned beef hash. I should have just eaten half, but I couldn't help myself. But, on a brighter note, I actually ate all of my calories for the last two days. For the last week, I've had a lot of trouble eating even half of what I was supposed to.

Cheers to everyone and have a good week!

I'm going to do it.

Wednesday, December 13, 2006

Ok, so I know I've said it before, but I'm really going to do it. I'm making the changes in my life so that I'll be here for my kids as they grow up. I do want to lose the weight, but my main goal is getting healthy. Losing weight will be the bonus. I've been a stay at home mom for just about a month and a half and I swear I've been gaining weight ever since. It is stopping today. I will not gain another pound!! This is the most I've ever been. I got up to 125 when I was 14, but joined cross country and toned up and looked great. I stayed there until about 6 months before I got pregnant with my first child.

I love to run, but haven't in years. I love Pilates, kickboxing and TaeBo. I plan on doing those to get back into shape.
