Day 1 of Keeping it Off

Saturday, January 01, 2011

One pound to goal. Then the hard work starts - keeping it off.....or as TOPS used to use - KOPS - Keeping Off Pounds Sensibly. Four little words..........TOUGH TO DO!

We went to a home party last night - of course had too much snack food. Did something for midnight we have never done. Everyone wrote a wish for 2011 on a piece of paper, tied it to a string attached to a helium balloon....and let it go. How cool is that?

DIL and grandkids left this a.m. - the house is quiet and the dogs are tired out from all the activity!

Hugs to all and again......Happy New Year! vista

A New Year and a Me Minus 61 Pounds!

Friday, December 31, 2010

Well, I started 2011 at 217 pounds and didn't mean to even try to change my lifestyle or take off any weight. For several years I made a resolution for each new year to "not try to lose weight"; "Not try to quit smoking"......etc, etc.

My water aerobics rehab place started a "Lose your love handles" contest last Feb. After being prodded by others, I decided to join and give it a try. My DIL had referred me to SP a couple of years ago, but I had not given it a real try. All that is past history now.

I weighed in this morning at 156..............61 pounds down from Feb 10. And as always, I give a LOT of the credit to my friends on SP.........I never imagined I would ever be under 200 again! SP and my friends have made it fun - competitive - interesting - educational. emoticon

SO......... vista

You're living proof that commitment, eyes ahead, a positive attitude, food planning, etc.etc. (and NO magical thinking) really works.
It's Day 1 for me!

What a great accomplishment!! You look absolutely marvelous, Darling. Sometimes, we do our best when we don't try so hard...it just happens. You've come a long way and you really look beautiful; I know that you've got to be so proud of yourself and I'm proud of you, too. It can't have been easy but you never gave up. A few bumps along the way but you picked yourself up and kept going. You are truly an inspiration to the rest of us still struggling! Way to go, Vista.

Confession Time.....and Who Do I Think I Was Kidding?!?!?

Wednesday, December 29, 2010

My grandgirls are here - have been since before Christmas. So in keeping with being a "good grandma" I thought up things I thought they would enjoy doing. First on my list - make crockpot chocolate peanut clusters. I'm doing this for the girls - it will be fun. Well, they did enjoy it and they made it perfectly. Truth: I am a chocoholic and this is one of those I can't leave it alone when I see it. Bought more ingredients for another pot - it will go home to KC with the girls. I am NOT MAKING THIS AGAIN! Can you spell ate M O S T O F I T
M Y S E L F????

On the flip side of that, I got a 24 hr virus that's going around. The 4 year got it first; then me; today the mom has it. SO........the day after the chocolate "Escapade" I had a grand total of 288 calories for the day! Maybe it will balance out somehow..........please, God!?!?!? Yesterday and today back on track. Maybe not too bad....will see on Friday.

When will I ever learn??????? I KNOW BETTER THAN TO TEMPT MYSELF LIKE THIS!!!!

You are so not alone in this fight. I love nut clusters, whether it's peanuts, almonds, pecans or walnuts. There's no WAY I could have them in the house.

I'm right there with ya! Love chocolate and ate every litttle frickin' chocolate thing that I could get my hands on. I kept telling myself that it was just because of the holidays but who was I kidding??? I'm not even waiting for the first of the year - I've already taken all the candy out of the house (trash went out yesterday) and NO CHOCOLATE!!! Hang in there - it WILL get better.

Article on Bacon Bits from Yahoo Health

Wednesday, December 29, 2010

Found this on FB page today......part of an article on why we are so fat. I found this part particularly interesting.......happy bacon!

"BETTY CROCKER'S BAC-O BITS
Weíve all been there before: A big bowl of lettuce or a steamy baked potato is set before us and the sudden desire for a bit of smoky, porky goodness pervades. We try to resist, but we grab for the bottle anyway: Mmmmm . . . bacon.

The Truth: Not quite. If itís Bac-Os you grab for, just know that thereís not the slightest whiff of anything pork-like to be found in the bottle. So what are those little chips youíve been shaking over your salads? Well, mostly soybeans. The bulk of each Bac-O is formed by tiny clumps of soy flour bound with trans-fatty, partially hydrogenated soybean oil and laced with artificial coloring, salt, and sugar. The result is a product thatís actually less healthy for your heart than the real thing!

Eat This Instead: Hormel makes a product called Real Bacon Bits, and as the name implies, itís made with real bacon. And gram-for-gram, the real bacon actually has fewer calories than Betty Crockerís Bac-Os. If Hormel can make a nutritionally superior product using real bacon, then why would you ever choose the artificial one thatís loaded with partially hydrogenated soybean oil?"

Thanks for the message - I usually buy Bacon-Bits from Hormel, or bacon pieces from our grocery (Kroger brand) but actually didn't realize that the Betty Crocker brand was not real bacon and was bad for you. I am enlightened!!
